Anyone else have a massive pileup problem by your door? This time of year especially we have boots, shoes, bags, and all kinds of cold weather gear to unload and process when we get home. What if we told you there is a better way to deal with this pileup…that is also an amazing investment in your home’s value? No matter if your household is just one person or ten, anyone can appreciate a storage solution like this Rock Island breezeway we transformed. A custom storage locker and bench seat is a stunning and sound investment for both the current and any future owners of this home.

What a dream! There was already an exterior door and coat closet located in the breezeway. The complete start-to-finish project management remodel team at Village Home Stores helped arrange to convert the divided space to become one large room with this amazing bench and storage setup. The new look is more accessible and brighter with new tile flooring and paint applied.

This Rock Island home already had a luxuriously wide breezeway space to work with, so we are able to step back and show you the full finished look. The truth for most area homes needing a space like this is there is not always a lot of space to work with. But our designers can turn even the smallest niche or closet into something that can better serve your needs. This same bench and storage concept can be recreated in any entry, mudroom, or hallway. We will work with you to decide what sizes and depths can fit for your own home.

This look is achieved using two tall, deep cabinets bookending each end with a bench seat and cubby area at the center. The sections are all installed and fit with baseboard molding and crown molding at the top to finish them all as one piece. A beaded panel at the back includes a valance and coat hooks.

Open cubbies above allow basket storage that is well out of eye-level so these are the perfect places to stash things that would normally pile up on the bench. For busy families with a lot of items to process, you can even assign a cubby basket for each person, so they have their own place for cold weather items, water bottles, etc. Pets can also claim their own basket to stash leaches, toys, treats, and waste baggies right by the door.

The wooden bench seat used here is a wood countertop we ordered in a Birch wood with a “Frontier” stain applied. Wood tops have a nice finished front edge and work great for built in cabinet counters and bench seats like this. The cubby sections below the bench can be used to stash shoes and boots out of the walkway. This keeps things within reach but not on full display when they are tucked away. Instead of a wood box like above, the “bottom” of these bench cubbies are just the tiled floors making it easier to sweep and keep clean.

We haven’t even mentioned the paint color yet. How could we have missed that important detail!? This is a fun new painted finish available from our Koch Cabinet line named “Capri Drift” with a rub through. Shown here on the “Hastings” door, this painted finish is fun way to add color and a weathered texture to a space. Bench seats and built-in areas are great candidates in your home for a little pop of color. See a video of this bench seat here on our Instagram page.

The new tile flooring is a 24″ x 24″ ceramic named “Golden Gray” from the Aurora series of our Lifestyle line. Are you ready to start your own remodel transformation story with Village Home Stores?
