We all fell in love with the kitchen feature from this home a few weeks ago, and now we wanted to give you a peek at the laundry and master bath as well. Nothing inspires crisp clean laundry days quite like a bright white laundry room. This Bettendorf, Iowa home includes a dream laundry space with cabinetry from our Koch Classic line. The clean lines of the Bristol door are painted in an “Ivory White” finish.
With a laundry space like this, we wouldn’t mind laundry duty! Natural light pours in from a window on the end and a single-wall layout of cabinetry and counter space extends most of the length of the room. Many new and remodel projects we work on have the laundry located near the main living spaces of the home. Gone are the days of descending down into a basement or a closet to do the laundry. Now our customers seek a centrally-located laundry area that can make keeping up with laundry tasks more enjoyable and accessible.
A folding counter is included with space below for laundry basket storage. We love the use of a rolling laundry cart here for style and function. This cart can be rolled right up to the front-load machines. The counter surface in this laundry room is an engineered quartz named “Fossil Gray”. Quartz is a durable and sleek surface ideal for a laundry/utility space like this on the main level of a home. This laundry sink and countertop is ready for any task messy or clean.
If your laundry room design has room for it, we always prefer to include a sink in the layout. Having a sink like this (see below) can let you soak and rinse items and also gives you a place to wash your hands. Because these counters are a quartz surface, we were able to include an under-mounted sink. Now the countertop can be wiped clean easily. The faucet for this sink is mounted on a specific area of the sink layout. Your designer from Village Home Stores will partner with our stone fabrication team to make sure the correct sink and faucet information gets included in the fabrication and installation of your top.
Not every item you wash ends up in the dryer. In fact, the newer high-efficiency model washers spin out so well that most items can avoid a heated dry cycle altogether with a little hanging time. This laundry room layout includes a stylish hanging rod above the folding and sink countertop. The builder installed a shelf and trimmed it out with the crown molding. The look is very nice and certainly beats the look of a last-minute clothes rod install.
So what’s new in Maytag laundry? Well a LOT! We have seen so much change in the last decade with features, finishes, water use, and more. Top-load and front-load laundry models are now fit with so many great features and Maytag offers a wide range of price-points and capacity for your household. Plus every Maytag washing machine comes with a 10 Year Warranty on the motor and wash basket! Maytag laundry products are proudly made in the USA. Washing machines are made in Clyde, Ohio and Maytag Dryers are made in Marion, Ohio.
Maytag has become well known for building dependable, high-performance machines. Of course new features like pre-loaded detergent options, and smart connected features are great. But rest assured that the focus of anything new coming out of those Ohio factories is being built to perform well and last as long as possible. Ask our expert appliance team about the difference between top load and front load washing and what models may be best for your household.
To see more of this laundry room visit the project here on our Houzz page. We also designed a serene and stylish master bathroom in this Bettendorf home. The same Bristol door and “Ivory” paint was used for the cabinetry. Our designer laid out a pattern of drawer bases and sink bases to fill this vanity wall with storage and two vanity sinks.
Across from the vanity wall is a custom tiled shower and stylish tub. Calacatta tile in a variety of sizes and shapes make up the floor and wall surfaces in this space. The best feature of this tile is one you can’t see. These tile floors have a Schluter Ditra-Heat system installed beneath them. And what’s better than heated tile floors? Heated tile floors on a timer so they are all ready for you in the morning!
Marble look engineered quartz tops in the “Calacatta Verona” design will look great for many years to come as the vanity tops. Quartz surfaces clean up easy give the look of a marble in a nonporous surface. Two rectangle undermount vanity sinks are installed in this master bath and a backsplash and two end splashes complete the look.

We tend to showcase a lot of our kitchen work here on the blog but… y’all know we do more than that right? We have products for every room in your home and many times find ourselves extending work beyond a kitchen remodel for our clients. Village Home Stores is your Quad Cities area source for kitchen, bath, and more! Yes we can design a beautiful kitchen or bathroom for you but we can also create a dream laundry, craft room, home bar, media room, fitness center, man shed, she shed, mudroom… the list goes on and on. Our latest featured kitchen remodel was really a complete overhaul of the entire back end of this busy Coal Valley, IL home including five other rooms we worked in.
If you haven’t toured the kitchen in this home yet, take a peek here at that tour. We created a stunning custom kitchen that included a home bar and hutch area plus a large walk-in pantry borrowing existing space from the back door rooms of this home. There are now many new finished spaces just outside of the kitchen. Take a look at the first space we finished right inside the garage door entry. This custom-built mudroom bench/locker area was once just some closet space with bi-fold doors. Now it is #mudroomgoals!
This new dropzone stops kid (and grownup) clutter right at the entrance to the home. Plenty of hook storage for backpacks and jackets ad even more hidden away in the tall cabinet to the right. Deep drawers beneath the bench seat open up to reveal the perfect designated space for shoe storage. On the left, the tall cabinet opens to reveal a designated cleaning supply area making this mudroom the ideal hub for all activity with the luxury of so many places to tuck away items out of sight!
Back door dropzones, mudrooms, and benches have become high on top of every wishlist for any busy household. These organized zones of a home are not just for households with young children! Who else among us comes home from work every day with about three totebags (silently raises hand while typing this blog post). Anyone can appreciate a storage situation like this. Press play below to see this busy household get quickly organized once the kids arrive home from school.
Part of the original space across from that mudroom bench was a long laundry room area. This was the original access to the pool out back. Now that we have installed pool access in the new kitchen, we replaced the laundry door with a windowed wall. Real talk: would YOU want pool guests you are entertaining to walk through your laundry room to use your restroom? Didn’t think so. Now this space has been reworked to tackle cleaning, sorting, and pet needs. Separate wall hooks have been installed for suits to hang and there is a whole wall of incredible storage within this laundry room.
The layout of this home is so unique. There are so many angled rooms included in the design which made us think outside of the box when reworking the spaces. In fact, we have reworked this laundry room and even removed some of the sq. ft. yet it still is a better working layout than before. Take a peek at the rendered floorplan below to see the angled areas and how we “sliced” off part of this room to become the pantry space accessed on the kitchen side.
Within the work crews we had in this home, the most talked about specialty cabinet in the whole project wasn’t in the kitchen! These three pullout laundry basket cabinets got a reaction out of everyone who saw them. Who wouldn’t love the option to sort and stash laundry within reach but out of sight? Ask you Village cabinet designer about including one of these in your laundry room or bathroom design.
The cabinetry in this space was an extension of the same style and color of the accents in the kitchen we installed. However, the hardware in the laundry room was the only area we switched from the brushed gold antique brass look to a brushed nickel finish in the same size and style. We also changed counter surfaces for this room. It may look like we installed granite here… but this is a Formica top folks!
The Formica 180FX series offers our clients an incredible large-format printed design on an affordable surface we have been familiar with for years. You get the look of luxury at a fraction of the cost. This pattern is called “Cafe Azul” and you can see large samples of it and many more options in our Geneseo, IL showroom. Another very special family member named “George” got his own new feature in this laundry room rework too. An Invisible Fence Brand dog door was installed below the new window accessing the backyard. His collar unlocks the door when he approaches so it can open and close only for him. Press play below to see it in action.
As we mentioned before, yes we remodel bathrooms just as efficiently as kitchens! It’s just a different process and checklist. This back hallway powder room got a whole new look and a slightly different layout. Did you know that Village Home Stores can also work on your interior doors and trim during your remodel? We carefully partnered with this client to keep a consistent stain color from the back door through many rooms into the new great room. A pocket door can be a wonderful selection for small spaces. In this angled space, eliminating a door swing helps to keep the high-traffic area open.
The powder room received different cabinetry from the rest of the rooms. Here we installed a Bertch Bath vanity and tall linen cabinet. Each were ordered with tapered legs for a more furniture look. The Northrope Alder style in a “Mocha” stain is paired with a 2 1/2″ thick Venecia cultured marble top. Bertch Bath is a nationally distributed vanity company and is manufactured not to far from us in Waterloo Iowa! Village is always excited to partner with brands local to us to eliminate high fuel/freight charges to you and to make availability and lead-times more efficient for you.
But of course your eye was drawn to this painted floor tile right? The most eye-catching feature in this powder room is this StonePeak Palazzo Florentina tile. Power rooms are an excellent space for this farmhouse/painted tile trend because they are a small space that you want a big style impact in. This is a huge trend on Instagram and Pinterest with no signs of slowing down in the next few years. As an added bonus, this tile gets you the look with fewer grout lines. These are not individual 6″ grid tiles as they appear with the pattern, instead these are 12″ x 24″ large-format tiles. Ask a tile expert at Village about all of our options in panted tiles!
Built ins, media rooms, and home entertainment centers were a huge cabinet category beginning in the late 80’s. As TV’s have evolved in size, shape and thickness, many homes in the Quad Cities area are ready for a new solution for their home entertainment areas. This area was reworked and a custom TV cabinet was ordered to match the Knotty Alder cabinetry of the kitchen that is right within sight of the great room.
Just like our availability to handle the doorways and trim in your home, we also can rework your stair rail systems! We removed the original oak spindles and replaced everything with this new saddle-stained wood and wrought iron combination. New flooring was also installed in the great room, front entry, and dining room.
A balanced blend of medium-to-dark Hickory woodgrains pull out and compliment all of the new cabinetry and the furniture in these spaces. This is a 3/4″ solid Hickory floor from our Paramount Barnwood series in the “Rustic Beam” color. With so many woods and finishes surrounding these floors, selecting one with many colors included is a fantastic choice to help bring everything together.
At the center of this large great room we installed a carpet inlay. This large carpeted area helps to reduce sound and adds comfort (as modeled below by George). This is the Symphony carpet series in the “Swing” color. Our DreamWeaver carpet is a solution-dyed carpeting and comes in so many styles and colors. Solution-dyed carpet fibers mean that the color is permanent! It can’t fade and resists coloring from soiling! More great news for George is that he can’t end up “in the doghouse” because this carpet is available with lifetime pet urine resistance! It also comes with a number of 25 year guarantees like a 25 year guarantee of abrasive wear, texture retention, fade resistance, soil resistance and more!
While you are lounging in this newly remodeled great room don’t forget to look up! These cathedral ceilings had original wood panels and a center beam as a feature. We had our carpentry team revisit the wood ceiling to secure loose panels and we wrapped the beam with found barnwood. The barnwood was custom stained to compliment the new cabinetry in the home. Iron brackets cover the seams of the barnwood and the lighting and fan were updated as well.
Speaking of lighting updates, the dining room got a new look just by changing some of the surfaces and adding new lights. The “Pembroke” series by ELK Lighting is a stunning transitional style that looks right at home in many rooms. A six-light chandelier and two wall sconces were installed in the “Antique Brass” finish. We also extended the Hickory Rustic Beam hardwood into this dining room connecting the spaces all as one concept.
We just filmed this home for an upcoming epsiode of The Village Home Show that will soon air in the Quad Cities viewing area on Sundays at 10am on WQAD. Did you know that Village Home Stores services the entire extended Quad Cities Region? What does that mean exactly? It means that our showroom in Geneseo, IL us really just a short drive away from many cities in the surrounding Illinois and Iowa area. Eldridge Iowa is a wonderful example of one of those cities. In recent years we have had our design and product installed in both new and existing homes there. This week’s feature project is a remodeled Master Bathroom just 35 miles away from our showroom in Eldridge. Take a look at this great new space.
We have replaced the single sink vanity area with a double-bowl layout. Cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the “Bristol” door and Maple wood species. Our bestselling gray neutral “Fog” paint is applied with Satin Nickel Bremen handles. A closet area has been converted to a stylish laundry nook inside the Master Bath. Wall cabinetry hangs above a front-load washer and dryer from our Maytag line. Having laundry located on the main level of a home can be such a convenience! And with these front-loaders now located in the Master Suite of the home, sorting and putting away laundry is just steps from the machines. We also installed a wall of cabinetry opposite the washer and dryer that includes a tall cabinet and a hanging rail.
Pedestals raise the washer and dryer up to a level that is ideal for loading and unloading the machines. Each pedestal opens up to provide more storage. They even fit short, rectangle-style laundry baskets within! This laundry pair is a powerhouse for any household! Backed by Maytag’s 10 Year Limited Parts Warranty with coverage on the Direct Drive Motor, Washer Basket, and Drum. Large capacity, steam settings, and a refresh cycle make them a great choice for a front load pair. We have installed new floor tile throughout the bathroom. It is a 12″x 24″ Amelia tile in the “Mist” color. This same tile is used as the wall tiles in a new custom shower area. We snapped a photo of the new shower before the custom door was installed:
Aren’t those custom wall niches great!? Symmetrical shelves make it easy to separate and store toiletries and soaps. The accent tile used as the shower floor, bench, and inside of these niches is also banded around the shower walls. The 2″ x 2″ basket-weave tile is from the same Ameila series as the wall tiles but in the contrasting “Carbon” color. We love how the bench area looks like it just waterfalls down into the shower floor in this home.
A Delta shower head and removable hand wand was installed for the new shower. Notice that the wand is adjustable for location and it is attached to a grab bar for added safety.
Including grab bars in a bathroom remodel is a wise investment for any home no matter your age or ability. Age-at-home features like these grab bars add a level of safety for all users and certainly add a priceless piece of mind to your remodel selections once everything is installed and finished.
We included another storage area above the new toilet in the bathroom. These stand-alone cabinets are called “toilet toppers” and typically include an open shelf space as well as a concealer door area for toilet paper and other items to be stored out of sight.
Next to the toilet is a great example of our Radiant series of switches and outlets. Notice how this series has no visible screws!? We love that clean look and detail. This series has many great options including a nightlight (shown off/on below).
In keeping with the other clean and fresh material selections, a marble-look quartz counter was installed to replace the original navy blue cultured marble top. This color is the Carrara Grigio design with an undermounted Caxton sink. A quartz backsplash and endsplashes complete the look.

Master Bathroom remodels can be such a wonderful investment in your home. While a kitchen remodel is something you AND your guests can enjoy together, a master bath is more of a treat to yourself to enjoy every single day. Bath remodels can be a fantastic way to update a home just by simply replacing fixtures and finishes. Take a look at this dream of a bath retreat we just completed in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Do you have a large Jacuzzi-style tub sitting in your Master Bath that you never use? Well you are NOT the only home in the Quad Cities in that category. This home did too. Over the past few years we have removed so many of these large tubs to make space for a better design and practical tub design for our customers. The original tub in this Bettendorf home was so large it barely ever was used because it could fill and keep water hot long enough to enjoy it. Plus like many we take out, it had a lovely carpeted step up to access it. Look at the before photo of this large tub.
And now we have taken that large out and created a spacious and stylish new tub area. The Kohler Stargaze freestanding tub is stylish and far more practical size for fill and use. Keeping the space open around the tub and installing floating shelves above it, allows the area to feel open but not uncomfortably large. The Stargaze tub has a centered drain and the Dryden series of fixtures from Delta are installed for the tub and shower.
The original bathroom already had a large tiled shower area in the corner. A polished brass shower surround was installed right up to the Jacuzzi tub surround in the old design. While there was plenty of space in the original shower, there wasn’t a great area for toiletry storage. Take a look at the original shower area in this image below.
And now we have created a new tiled shower space with an updated look and added shelf storage. By building a short kneewall to separate the tub area from the shower, we created a wall surface on the tub side for panels. On the interior shower side of that wall we built in a tiled shelf niche for storage. Shower toiletries are right in reach of the user but out of sight for anyone else.
A custom glass shower surround is installed in the new design with a ledge of Cambria Quartz on top of the kneewall. The quartz is the Berwyn Design. A classic neutral choice that compliments all of the other surface selections in the new bathroom space so well. We also love the installation of a robe hook within the tiled shower. This shower area is large enough to keep your towel or robe within the shower and not get wet from the shower controls.
Having your robe or towel within reach of the shower is a great luxury and so is warm tile on your bare feet once you exit the shower. As our adorable model shows us below, this stylish new flooring is comfortable as well with a heated tile system beneath it.
The tile in this bathroom is from the Simply Modern series in the “Coffee” color. 12″ x 24″ tiles are the main bathroom floor and 2″ x 2″ tiles create the shower floor and entry. The shower walls are a tile from the Paramount New York series in the “Greenwich Village” color.
Our expert bathroom remodel team will work closely with you and our tile department to select accessories, decide layout, and discuss location for all the details of your new tiled shower. The existing bathroom vanity in this home was painted a fresh bright white and a new counter, faucets, and vanity bowls were installed. Cambria Quartz in the Berwyn design adds sprakle and shine to this vanity area.
Our carpentry crews are skilled to not only install cabinetry and hardware, but also trim, moldings, millwork and other wood details for your space. The crew at this home created a customized wainscot panel design surrounding the lower half of the entire room. The completed and painted paneling really takes the space to a designer level and adds such a great look.
This Master Bath was already so spacious and now it is extremely stylish. To see the full album of images from this bath remodel click here to visit our Houzz portfolio. Village Home Stores began our Full Project Management Program with kitchen remodeling in mind but the response for bath remodels in the Quad Cities Region has been so much larger than expected. Who remodels bathroom in the Quad Cities Area? We do? But what if you don’t need it fully gutted and rearranged? Still us! Village Home Stores is in the business of helping you make the most out of every room in your home. Many bathroom and kitchen layouts are already very functional designs, they just need a new look. Our expert remodel team is definitely here to help. Updating your home can add to it’s value and appeal. In this Bettendorf home, we gave an oak and brass Master Bath a new classic look.
Marble look quartz in the Calacatta Classique color is such a classic and transitional choice. Marble has proven for centuries that it will never go out of style. Quartz counters in a bathroom are an ideal choice. Here you get the look of marble, but no worries if anything spills or leaks onto the tops. Quartz is also heat resistant so hair appliances won’t scorch or melt the surface if they come in contact with it. The shower area also received an updated look:
What a difference a new shower door system can make! From heavy, brass framework, to a more open and airy look, the new shower area seems larger without changing in size at all. And now for the main event: the double vanity area. Any Master Bath with two users can always plead it’s case for having two vanity sinks. But this bathroom has us convinced that the pendant lighting trend in bathrooms is also a great choice! We love the use of two framed mirrors and a light above each bowl area.
Vanity cabinetry from our Dura Supreme line in the “Kendall” door and painted “Latte” finish creates a soothing neutral color choice. Latte may be a beige paint at first glance, but when browsing finish selections it really falls within the warm white/taupe category. Selecting a lighter neutral paint cabinet to pair with a marble look top can be a great way to keep a space seem smaller. There are still so many varieties of colors in the veining of a marble top, and of course flooring to tie into the overall look. You don’t need a dark paint or stain for a rich look.
This bathroom feature also brought a fun detail to our attention. How versatile the Downtown Series of lighting by Kichler is! These same pendants hang in our showroom above a kitchen island display. We have installed them at countless projects used as everything from a single foyer light, to kitchen lighting, and now in a bathroom space. The same light. In the same scale and size. Used in many varieties of styled spaces. Now that is the very definition of Transitional Style. See the same lights here in a past blog feature of a kitchen remodel in a historic home. Did you know that you can shop all of our lighting catalogs online, anytime?
We have an award-winning lighting showroom full of a variety of lighting styles and trends. Even so, there is just no way we can show the hundreds of thousands of options available. Shop lighting here on our website and use filters to help narrow your search. Find the light you love and get the very best service available before and after your purchase. We match online lighting prices if needed. Trust us when we say that you want to purchase your lighting from an expert lighting showroom like Village. If warranty or shipping issues arise, we are ready to get to work for you to make it right!
We also gave a new look to the tub surround area of the bathroom. A panel was ordered in the same style and finish as the new vanity. This panel gives a totally new refresh to the existing tub area! Ask your designer at Village Home Stores what they recommend for your current space. We know our team can create a new vision for your space but sometimes it can be hard for clients to understand it. That is why we will present fully rendered design drawings to help you visualize the new space before any materials are even ordered. It is an important part of our remodel process and provides you, the client, peace of mind that we have a vision for your home.
