The number of bathroom remodels we have completed in the Quad Cities area in the past few years has just continued to grow and grow. Bathroom remodels can be an overwhelming project to take on yourself and that is why our Complete Project Management Program includes a process specifically planned out for our bathroom customers. We can manage everything for you from start to finish. This recent project in Moline, IL turned out wonderful and we wanted to show you around.
The main wall of the bathroom includes a large vanity area with two sinks, unique lighting, and framed recessed medicine cabinets. The vanity cabinetry is a Koch Cherry cabinet in the Vicksburg door and “Stone” stained finish. A stack of drawers at the center and added decorative feet complete the look.
Atop most of the “wish lists” of our bath remodel customers is a tiled shower. This shower includes two showerheads, one on each end wall. These fixtures each have their own controls and even the option of a handheld showerhead.
Selecting the fixtures, tile, and shape of your shower aren’t the only decisions to be made. Our flooring and wall tile sales staff will also work with you to discuss any wall niches or custom shelves to be included in the installation. This shower includes a custom niche hidden behind a half wall at the entry to the shower. This keeps the shelf (and its contents) accessible for the user but invisible to any guest just using the toilet or vanity area.
Our staff will also discuss with you ready-made options like these corner shelves that can be installed with the tile. Benches and footrests are another popular request. Something as large as a bench that stretches the full width of a shower, or even just a small corner ledge to rest your foot while shaving your legs. Each option can be such a practical feature to a tiled shower area.
The entry into your tiled shower will also be a part of the discussion. These decisions will also help us to decide the best shower door options you have if you are in need of one. Many of our tiled showers can be designed now to not need full glass doors. Check out the walk-in shower n this past featured bath remodel. Accessibility can also be adjusted for clients needing zero-entry options without a step up and into the shower. We love the pebbled tile selected for this shower floor.
The floor of the bathroom has been trimmed off in a way that we wanted to showcase. In place of a tiled floor with wooden baseboard, this bath has a short row of tile installed as a baseboard with a metal Schluter strip capping it off on top. This makes for a very easy to clean and mop flooring installation.
Unique lighting from our Kichler line blends a dark bronze finish with accents of brushed gold. The shape of the lighting gives a transitional look and a filament bulb style lends itself to the farmhouse style. A 3-light fixture hangs above each mirror and sink and a single wall sconce in the center adds more light and a great added touch of style.

Down the hall from this stunning kitchenette we shared recently is a remodeled bathroom packed with storage, function, and style. With a pool out back, this walk-out basement was in need of a large functional bathroom space ready for busy Summertime pool days. The vanity area is gorgeous. A furniture-style vanity with a medicine cabinet above surrounded by two wall sconces.
An open shelf below is perfect for stacking extra towels for guests. The furniture look of the Dura Supreme vanity is enhanced by the edge detail on the Cambria counters. Each corner swoops out an adds a details that the light catches. Cambria Quartz in the Torquay design gives the polished look of marble in a durable and non-porous engineered quartz.
With this busy bathroom being so close to the pool, a secondary laundry area was on the wish list. We were able to design an area that hides a stack-able unit right within the bathroom. Hidden pantry front doors aren’t just for pantry areas! And with the Inset door style selected, the doors can roll back with pocket door hardware and allow full access to the laundry.
A custom tiled shower in a bathroom allows you to truly make the most of your space. Plus the look of carrying a tiled floor into a shower helps to make the room seem larger. This look is only made stronger when you pair it with a glass door entry. In this bath we were able to include a full glass wall and even turn the corner with a small section of glass.
12″ x 12″ wall tiles and 3″ x 3″ floor tiles in the shower plus a custom niche for toiletries. Even with a shower this large there was enough space to include a custom cabinet locker area at the bathroom entry. The unit hugs the entire corner all the way to the door. Why stop at the wall switch if you can just include it in the design? We used the clean design and style of our Adorne Series of switches and the look is great.
An L-shaped bench with beaded panel walls and robe hooks was installed. We stacked crown molding so that the locker bench area stretches all the way to the ceiling. The Chapel Hill doors are inset into the faceframe and the top section of cabinets here are top-hinged. We love the use of frosted glass in the Chestnut Cherry cabinet.
Below the bench is even more storage in drawers. Imagine a busy pool party weekend and each guest getting a section of this locker. A wonderful way to keep the clutter contained. This bathroom space is so beautiful and functional. We love how it turned out.

This Moline, IL Master Bathroom has been given an inviting new look from Village Home Stores. Warm finishes and a spacious layout make for a perfect retreat for the homeowners. Right away upon entering you are greeted with a statement tiled shower. A mosaic tile by Daltile in the “Crystal Shores” series and “Copper Coast” color gives the look of a piece of art framed in the custom shower.
Village Home Stores managed the complete project from start to finish with our Complete Project Management Process. All design, material selection, subcontractor estimates, scheduling, and day-to-day was handled by an expert team created just for this Moline, IL couple. This large bathroom has the space for a large custom shower, a corner shelf, toilet area, and double bowl vanity. Here is a peek at a color rendering used early on in the design and selection process.
Presenting our customers with complete design concepts helps them to really see the finished space as realistically as possible before anything is even ordered. The bathroom cabinetry is from our Koch Classic line. The doorstyle is named “Seneca” and a Red Oak has been painted “Pearl” allowing the woodgrain of the oak to still show through as an added texture.
Instead of a vanity bowl on either end of the cabinetry, the two bowls are in the center of the top leaving a larger counter space on the ends. The cabinetry below cuts back to a shallower cabinet and countertop to help keep the room spacious (especially by the shower entry). A “knee wall” or half-wall has been installed to cap off the vanity area leaving the space above open with sight into the shower. A custom framed glass shower entry has been installed in an Oil Rubbed Bronze finish to compliment the shower fixtures and lighting.
Recess can lighting is installed throughout the new design and elongated wall sconces from our Hudson Valley line flank the vanity wall. Matching mirror molding was ordered with the wall cabinetry to match the painted oak finish. With the two bowls near eachother, a single custom mirror can be centered in the space and framed in with this mirror molding.
The tile selections and installation give life and warmth to the finished design. A small step threshold into the custom tiled shower takes you from the main floor tile in the “Cashmere” color to a darker “Tortoise” color. The shower floor is a blend of many colors in a 2″ x 2″ tile named “Cream Blend” all from our American Olean line.
The shower walls are a 9″ x 12″ tile from the Belmar series and the “Tortoise” color. A custom tiled niche is located right be the hand-held shower controls. You have many options for shelves and niches in a tiled shower. Be sure to discuss you needs with your tile expert at Village Home Stores so we can figure out the perfect size and location for your project.
Corner benches or footrests can be another fantastic addition to a tiled shower design. Female clients love the benefit of having a place to put a leg up while shaving. The corner bench can also work as another shelf if needed. See more examples of tiled showers here in this Houzz ideabook of examples.
Speaking of tile, this smiling guy deserves a shout out and a spot in this feature because, well just look at him! Plus he matches the tile so perfectly. The flooring in the bathroom is a 12″ x 12″ tile size and the tub surround area changes to a 9″ x 12″ tile.
Above the tub surround deck an accent area of tile has been installed to tie everything together. A row of the darker “Tortoise” tile is finished off with a row of deco band in the same mosaic used on the shower wall. A narrow frame tile with an ogee edge is used to finish off this look and as the “frame” in the shower. This “Questech” tile is 2″ x 12″ in size and in the “Antique Bronze” finish.
In the tub corner hangs a gorgeous orb chandelier light from our Maxim line. The light is stunning in person and the crystal details inside add a sparkling glow to the tub area. The pattern it creates on the ceiling is interesting as well!
This remodel involved carpentry, electrical, painting, drywall/plaster, plumbing, custom glass shower door, and tilework. That is a lot of crews working in one bathroom space! This is when our Complete Project Management Program Process truly shines. We coordinate all of the crews for you beginning with an on-site meeting with everyone during the estimating process. Our Project Management team then creates a schedule and custom log-in program for you and the crews to access. Learn more about this log-in program here on our website.

This week’s featured project is a brand new home built by Bob Walter Homes in rural Iowa. Bob Walter, known for a tradition of excellence, has truly built a gorgeous home! It was a huge pleasure to work with him and these clients to design and provide the cabinetry and lighting for these spaces. We hope you enjoy taking a look around this stunning new home.
A non-beaded inset cabinet with 5-piece drawer fronts in the “Fairfield” door style lines the perimeter of the kitchen in a Maple wood custom painted with a Sherwin Williams color named “Balanced Beige”. Dovetailed drawers throughout with undermounted full-extension solt-close drawer guides. The inset doors have concealed inset hinges with soft-close feature.
The kitchen island is constructed of a doorstyle named “American” also inset into the faceframe. A Maple wood has been stained in a medium gray “Tarragon” finish. We love the pairing of the cabinet finishes with the varied wood tones in the floors.
The kitchen is from our Custom Amish-made line of cabinetry Das Holz Haus. Located out in the beautiful plains of Illinois, this custom cabinet line is our finest available. From our designs DHH is able to create a superior product with attention every single detail. We take great pride in providing this line to our customers. Knowing they are investing in the very best available and their cabinetry is constructed as an entire project, not piece by piece. While our clients may be investing in this line for construction, what’s outside is not to go unnoticed.
With DHH feeling is believing. What we mean by this is the finish of this product is something that you truly must experience in our showroom. We believe the finish of the product DHH provides for our customers is unmatched by anyone else in our region. That is why we have selected them to be a part of our product lineup at Village Home Stores. Working with a completely custom line makes spaces like this Laundry Room far easier to achieve:
The same “Fairfield” doorstyle from the kitchen is repeated in the Laundry Room but this time a paint named “Knitting Needles” is applied. This space is ready to not just act as a laundry room but so much more. An incredible amount of storage throughout including a bench area with storage drawers below.
We would guess you aren’t looking at the storage drawers below now though…. how about those custom barn doors!?! If including a barn door in your space is on your wish list then don’t hesitate to discuss it with your designer at Village Home Stores. We can make your dream space a reality! We didn’t just provide expert design and custom cabinetry for this home we also provided the lighting.
Including open concept layouts into new homes has made a big impact on the importance of creating a cohesive style to your home. Our new home lighting specialist works closely with you and your budget to help determine your own personal style and tastes. We carefully consider location, scale and how well fixtures near each other can compliment the overall look. The images above represent what fixtures were selected for the lighting visible throughout the Great Room space. (left) The Foyer light by DVI Lighting is in Oil Rubbed Bronze and the Dining Room lighting (center) is a series from our Kichler line that includes rustic wood details. A 15-light chandelier (right) hangs in the center of the Great Room by Feiss.
In the lower level of the home we provided lighting and custom cabinetry. How amazing does this farmhouse style billiard fixture look above the table!?! This 3-light fixture from our ELK line includes a centered pulley to raise and lower the unit if needed.
Just beyond the billiard table is a stunning new home bar area. The “Athena” door is inset and stain in the same Maple “Tarragon” finish from the upstairs kitchen island. With closed storage and plenty of open shelves this home bar is gorgeous!
This space would make even a stylish NYC bar owner jealous. The layout, the details, and the lighting all make the space so polished. Pendant lighting from our ELK line and wall sconces by Feiss complete the look. We are certainly ready to pull up a barstool.
But if sitting at the bar isn’t your thing perhaps visiting this Wine Cellar area is? The “Leland” 3-light metal drum pendant by Uttermost is a great centerpiece to the space.
Of course all of the bedrooms need to have a stylish lighting plan in place as well. Our favorite is the Master Bedroom which includes the “Aveline” mini chandelier by Feiss. Elements Home Furnishings and Interior Design did an incredible job stylish this home. We are in awe of this completed Master Suite.
Two wall sconces flank a built-in bench area in the Master Bedroom. The 1-light sconces are from the same series of lighting named “Aveline” by Feiss. In fact a third light from that series is repeated above the tub in the Master Bath. Wall sconces by DVI Lighting flank the framed mirrors.
The Master Bathroom vanity area is designed using DHH’s “Villa” door in a Cherry wood. The rich, warm stain is named “Amber” and includes some distressing for added detail. There were a number of other bathrooms in this home but we did want to share some of them to give you an idea of the variety of styles we can and do see in new homes today.
Gone are the days of ordering one door and finish for an entire home of cabinetry. Instead, we are excited that every space in a home is now treated as it’s own concept. The main Guest Bathroom cabinetry (above) is the same doorstyle as the kitchen. Knotty Alder wood has been stained in an “Anise” stain. A new detail to note is look closely at the corners of the cabinet doors. These doors are still inset in the faceframe but raised pegs have been added for an extra detail.
That same Knotty Alder wood is repeated in the main floor hall bathroom. This time the alder is stained in a color called “Sand Keepsake” with a heavy distressing applied. Open shelves give a more furniture look to the vanities and the copper bowls on top are beautiful.
The lighting you select for your home becomes the “jewelry” of the entire finished look. Our lighting experts will help guide you and keep you on track for what is needed and what will work best for the space and your project’s budget. This home also includes a relaxing Outdoor Living Room space we provided lighting and fans for. These lanterns are from our Minka-Lavery line.

In our last feature post we shared a tour of a stylish and sophisticated kitchen remodel. That same home in Coal Valley, IL also includes a remodeled Master Suite area just as stunning! A sliding barn door in the Master Bath opens to reveal a walk-in closet, makeup vanity room, and a beautiful bathroom space.
Just like the kitchen, this bathroom began in a beige setting with a medium Oak vanity. A wall-to-wall installation of vanity and top included a cultured marble vanity top with two integrated bowls.
The new vanity area now includes an inset White painted vanity from our Dura Supreme line. The “Highland” doorstyle is inset into the vanity face frame for a classic and stylish look. White wall paneling has been installed throughout the new bathroom and is divided up to create shapely pattern. Shapes and shadows are truly the centerpiece to the details in this Master Bath. From the inset door edges, to the unique wall sconces, everything makes a statement. We love that the accents of gold from the other areas of the home have made it into this Master Suite.
The wall sconces are mounted directly through the wall-to-wall mirror. This helps keep the bathroom space seem more open and airy by having the maximum amount of mirror available to bounce and reflect light around. These 2-light fixtures are from the George Kovacs collection by Minka. The Honey Gold finish and white fabric shade are right in place with the rest of the materials selected. The squared off corners of the gold frame reflect and create an almost greek key design.
Beneath the mirror and sconces sits a gorgeous new vanity top. Instead of a double bowl vanity, a single offset layout has been installed. This allows for more countertop space and allows the pattern of Cambria® Quartz “Brittanicca” to take center stage. A clean and stylish blend of whites and grays, this quartz has a natural marble look with the maintenance-free perks Cambria® offers. The vanity top has a “Large Ogee Edge” applied.
With a vanity area that stunning how could a shower still grab your attention? Well… we removed the shower curtain to take a few photos so you can get the full wow-factor!
We were correct about that wow-factor weren’t we? Using a dark gray grout here helps to enhance the geometric pattern of the tile installation. This tile by Florida Tile is appropriately named “Hex” is a glossy white hexagon pattern.
Proof that you do not need a mosaic of colors to make a bold statement with tile, this shower is amazing! A mix of two shapes of the same colored tile installed in a modern look. We love the stacked install on these long, horizontal tiles.
One the wall opposite the shower head is a custom tiled niche area. Inside of that niche the same “Hex” tile has been used and glass shelves allow light to pass through. Including a custom shelf or niche is always helpful when planning a tiled shower.
Many times custom tiled showers include a tiled base for the floor. This customer wanted to avoid grout lines to be cleans on the floor and instead chose a stylish shower base custom made for her by the Onyx Collection. This base is poured in Kansas and available in many colors and can be customized to even the strangest of shapes. A textured pattern is included in the base for added traction. The color selected for this bathroom is named “Constellation” and it is a great compliment to the dark gray grout.
Find more inspiration for custom tiled showers over on our award-winning Houzz page. There you can browse ideabooks on tiled showers and see more custom niches and benches to help you get inspired for your own project. You can even find the album of photos from the kitchen in this same home.
The flooring throughout the Master Bath and dressing areas is a 12″ x 24″ tile. This “Loppato Calacutta” tile is from our Florim line. Love the look of this space? See the full album of photos from this Master Suite remodel here on our Houzz page. This bathroom also included our stylish square-shaped switches from the adorne series by legrand®.
