On this episode of the Village Home Show we tour two Quad City Area bathrooms. Each Master Bathroom has been remodeled to include beautiful new materials and bright open spaces. Click right here below to watch this full episode and see the entire before & after stories of these bathrooms.
The first bathroom we look at in this episode had a ton of space already. The homeowners were right in knowing that just a few changes could really make the space work even better for them. A warm, neutral selection of materials paired with a traditional style creates a stunning space in this Bettendorf, IA home.
An arched area that has a custom fit cherry bench seat where an existing jacuzzi tub was removed. A matching wood top gives the homeowners extra storage space and keeps the area open. Above the bench you will note an arched valance that compliments the other arches throughout the home.
Our carpenters worked with the homeowners to maintain the arch look with a template, so each had the same look. This is a great look and you will notice both bathrooms we feature in this episode have arched areas with a light fixture as a focal point. Another common theme from one bathroom to the next is heated tile flooring and two of the most gorgeous custom tiled showers in the Quad Cities! See the full album of photos from this bathroom over here on our Houzz page.
The second Master Bath we tour uses cooler colors of materials. This original bathroom had a very large layout with lots of great natural light. The homeowners were looking for ways to make better use of their space. The entire bathroom was demo-ed including the master bedroom attached to the bath. A beautiful Crystorama chandelier hangs above the tub.
The shower goes into the same location but there is an addition of a bench seat, custom wall shelf, and new shower head and control system. Mosaic tile accents the new shower and is repeated as a bold statement filling each of the vanity walls. See this bathroom featured here on our blog and the full album of photos to inspire your project here on Houzz.com.
Bathroom vanities by DuraSupreme face eachother with matching frames mounted above. The Adorne Collection of switches and receptacles are also installed throughout. The Adorne Collection from Legrande, it can put a stylish and smart finish on any project in your home. From the design to project completion, our project management team is there for you. Amazing kitchen remodels and bathrooms as well. Village Home Stores can do it all. We hope you enjoyed this episode of Village Home Show, and contact us if you have any questions!
Like so many of our most successful kitchen transformation stories, this one includes the removal of a wall to open up the existing kitchen space to create a more open concept for the home. We loved this remodel project so much that we featured this kitchen on an episode of the Village Home Show. Also included in this episode is a tour of the adjacent bathroom that includes a Laundry area on the main floor.
Living through a complete kitchen remodel can be quite a process. Kitchen remodels are so rewarding once complete, but they do take some time. Great kitchen transformations like this don’t happen overnight. Watch this episode of the Village Home Show and see how this space was transformed from start to finish.
As you saw in the video above, much of the work done to this kitchen happened before any of the new cabinetry was installed. Just look at this wall that was in the way of the original space:
By removing that wall the new kitchen is now a part of the front living room and natural light can pour in from all directions. This pair of Taylor Ridge newlyweds were not just challenged with the space restrictions of the existing kitchen, they also had a mix of personal styles that they wanted to be addressed. Located up on the sweeping hills of Taylor Ridge, the couple wanted to be sure to nod to the rustic setting even though their personal tastes were more timeless and Traditional.
Their designer from Village Home Stores was excited to get to work on finding them the perfect selection or materials to give the right finished look to the space. Of course the look and feel of the new kitchen is only a fraction of what makes it a well-designed kitchen. The function of the design is most important, especially in your kitchen. Let’s start by looking at the layout of the new design.
In the case of this kitchen, spreading out into the new space and adding areas for prep, storage and entertaining were key. A large island in the center of the design checks off all of these boxes. Even with the new large island in place, there is still plenty of room for a full dining room table on the opposite end of the room.
A single level island was designed with adequate seating space for four (plus plenty of leaning up to and chatting space for many more). The island includes storage accessible from three sides and decorative paneling and trim all around it to give the look of a large furniture piece. This leaves the view seen buy guests Traditional and stylish from every angle.
The island side facing the kitchen user includes the dishwasher and built-in microwave drawer. The entire package of kitchen appliances is from Village Home Stores and includes a 29 cu. ft. refrigerator and double oven gas range from KitchenAid. A Sharp microwave drawer, and Broan hood insert have also been installed. With the dishwasher and microwave facing the sink and a wood hood in place of a stainless unit, there is less Stainless Steel in the overall first impression. This keeps the look updated but Traditional without having to invest in panel-ready appliances.
With an island this large you will want to use it for many tasks. An outlet is camouflaged discretely on the end facing the cooking wall of the kitchen. Now small appliances can be used for prep and entertaining.
Moving the refrigerator to the opposite wall helps to keep all of the main kitchen appliances in one zone of the kitchen. The large kitchen island is located right in front of the refrigerator to provides plenty of space for loading and unloading items. With the largest appliance to the left of the sink, that frees up the entire other wall for a chance to create a dramatic look for the new kitchen.
Above the new double oven gas range is a wood hood with decorative corbels. Framed in by lighted glass-door cabinets on either side, this wall is the focal point of the entire room. Walking in the front door your eyes lock on this area right away! The main tile throughout this kitchen is glass subway tile appropriately named “Truffle” by Ann Sacks. The mosaic inset above the range is is from Epic Stone. This mosaic perfectly combines the colors of the field tile, Cambria Quartz countertops, and wall cabinetry.
This scrolled corbel style helps anchor a Traditional style to the overall look. The painted “Pearl” finish on Koch’s “Royale” doorstyle has been accented with an “Umber” glaze perfectly showcased here on the corbels. You may have noticed the contrasting island of this kitchen but did you notice the other bold contrast of this look …?
The base cabinetry of this entire kitchen is a rich “Mocha” stain while all of the upper cabinetry and refrigerator surround is in the “Pearl” painted finish. This may be a bold concept to hear described to you but look at it in action here! The upper cabinets seem to almost “float” above and give the whole room a larger feel. This contrasting concept can be executed for all styles from Contemporary to Old World.
A pullout spice rack is accessible just to the right of the double oven gas range. these spice cabinets are available for both base units and wall units.
Just to the right of this wall is the hallway that is now easily accessible from the open kitchen, dining, and living room.
A handcrafted custom barnwood door by Character Interiors has been installed on sliding hardware that includes a lock on the interior. Behind this barndoor is a large double vanity bathroom with a tub shower and front-load laundry from Maytag. In the episode posted above in this post we give a full tour of this new bathroom space. Across the way, an unused corner of the original kitchen has now been given a brand new look.
This built-in hutch cabinet helps extend the kitchen cabinetry into the dining space and give a customized look. The lighted top section of the wall cabinet provides a fantastic ambient light source and a space for displaying items.
A custom wood top has been installed in the same finish as the island and base cabinetry from the main kitchen. This helps tie the rich “Mocha” stain into the hutch area but keeps the entire section looking like a Traditional sideboard cabinet. Our Diode LED undercabinet system is installed underneath the painted cabinetry and inside of the glass-front wall cabinets. With a dimmer switch function added, these efficient lights can be used all day every day no matter what the mood is.
There are two other great lighting zones in this gorgeous new space. This Dining 4-light chandelier is from our Golden line. Exposed bulbs in clear glass caged in a dark finish keeps the light from seeming to large. You can see through it into the new kitchen and pendents just beyond it.
These 3 pendant fixtures are from our Minka-Lavery line. Hanging pendants above an island can be done in so many ways. we love the look here of a cluster of lights hung at varied heights. The visible filament of the “Edison” style bulbs and varied heights here help lend a more whimsical feel and add rustic Old World charm.
Timeless and classic, but with a nod to the rustic setting of this countryside Taylor Ridge home. This kitchen turned out gorgeous! Medium oak cabinetry, trim and doors were replaced with a cool, serene collection of finishes. White doors and trim create a high contrast to the dark cherry cabinetry installed into this relaxing new spa getaway in Colona, IL.
Giving the look of a high-end hotel but with all of the extra storage needed, there are two identical vanities in the new space. Storage below in the vanities allows for a cleaner look to be applied to the space above them. A framed mirror in place of a medicine cabinet mirrors back the vanity directly across from it as well as all of the light throughout the bath.
The Cabinetry and framed mirrors where custom ordered from our Dura Supreme Cabinetry line in a dark cherry stain. Brushed hardware and the addition of decorative feet to the toespace help set off this look. “Gray Expo” Silestone quartz countertops with undermounted white bowls perfectly compliment the surrounding tile selections. Let’s take a look at what other details went into creating this serene new space.
You may have noticed that there are not any boring white wall switches distracting from this gorgeous new space. Our Adorne® series of switches and plugs have been installed throughout this new Master bath as well as the Master Bedroom just outside of it.
This series allows you functions like pop-up outlets, wave-control switches and even U.S.B. charging stations all within a sleek square receptacle. Frame them in with one of their many plate choices or create your own custom wall plate. Get ready to start seeing more and more of our projects with these products they are truly amazing!
An in-floor heating system has been installed beneath the new ceramic flooring. Cold bare feet are no match for this new cozy upgrade. What rests on these warm floor is the most inviting tub you could ask for.
Your first view into this new space is of the new freestanding tub with an arched tray ceiling above. The previous tub dropped into a tiled platform and an oak apron filled this entire alcove. The same space is now open and outstanding!
When you create such a perfectly framed space for a focal point you have to have just the right element to complete it. In this case it is the “Layla” hanging light fixture by Crystorama above the new tub. Always remember that if you have an idea you have seen somewhere online or in a magazine, our team is always eager to see what inspires you and help include those things into your own design.
With a light like the one above the tub, it is better to compliment it than compete with it for the remaining lighting. Knowing the vanity lights would be mounted on the mosaic tile and be within sight of the tub fixture, these lights from Feiss were a great choice. the same mosaic tile was installed in the wall shelf near the tub as well as an accent in the new shower.
If the tub is not where you will want to spend your time the new walk-in shower sure will be! If one showerhead just isn’t enough for you how about a rain showerhead above, a standard showerhead, and a handheld unit?
This walk-in tiled shower includes a bench and built-in shelf for toiletries. A rain shower head has also been installed above and can be used with or without the main shower unit. They each run on their own control system.
Opposite the entrance to the walk-in shower is a private area for the stool in the Master Bath. A custom toilet-topper wall cabinet was designed to house toiletries and extra linens in the wide space above the stool.
Like many great things are, a gorgeous space gets that way because of the details. Just like the Adorne® collection gives the wall outlets and switches that added edge, details like crown molding can complete a look. The unique shape of this Master bath allows many locations for crown molding to draw attention to the room’s shape.
Other details like the waterfalling faucet fixtures all help create one cohesive and complete look. The Moline kitchen we featured on the blog a few weeks back also had a nearby bathroom in the home that was remodeled as well. Village Home Stores offers bathroom vanities available from all of our cabinet lines. We also carry the the full line of Bertch Bath products made not to far from us in Waterloo, IA. Bertch offers bath cabinetry in a number of sizes and layouts and can be ordered in many wood species and finishes.
This bathroom may only house one small vanity but there are a lot of great ideas within this new space. The first is the vanity itself. The “Hudson” doorstyle is one of the most versatile vanity styles available from the Bertch Bath catalog. This is because it can be finished and styled in so many different ways. The vanity in this space has been ordered in a Alder wood and dark “Brindle” finish has been applied. Decorative feet have also bee added in place of a toekick area to give a more freestanding and furniture look to the cabinet.
To keep that furniture vanity appearance, a framed mirror has been installed above the vanity in place of a tri-view medicine cabinet that may be expected here. A single panel of beveled mirror is framed in the same mitered “Hudson” style as the doors. The single-door medicine cabinet installed on the nearby wall to the left creates a storage space for small items and keeps them off the vanity counter.
The wall outlet for this bath vanity is a very busy place. Many women can relate to the multiple devices like straighteners and blow-driers and curling rods that can clutter up a bathroom countertop. But why are these cords leading down to the floor past the vanity top? Because this bathroom was designed to accommodate all of those hair appliances!
A narrow bathroom caddy is tucked away between the bath vanity and the wall and the granite countertop has even been extended to add more counter space to the user at the vanity.
The tile in this bathroom is bright and classic. New floor tile has been placed throughout and a brand new custom-tiled tub/shower surround has been installed as well. A strip of glass mosaic tile surrounds the new shower and glass corner shelves were installed for shower items. The new Stainless Steel shower head includes a removable handheld wand and multiple spray options.
An tiled cubby within the shower wall was added to offer another location for shower items and accessories. This keeps clutter from piling up along the edge of the tub/shower base.
