Are you planning a project for your Quad Cities home within the next few years? Are you considering building a new home within the next few years? Then we hope you were able to attend the 2019 Quad Cities Builders and Remodelers Home Show this past weekend at the QCCA Expo Center in Downtown Rock Island. This annual event is your opportunity to browse Quad Cities Area businesses that offer products and services for your home. Village Home Stores is a longtime member of the QCBR and we had an absolute blast this year meeting new customers and answering their questions about our store and what it is like to work with us as they visited our booth.

We offer Appliances, Appliance Service, Lighting, Cabinetry, Countertops, Hardware, Flooring, Wall Tile, Window Treatments and so much more! In our 2019 booth we introduced a brand new full-access cabinet line named WynnBrooke. We are very excited to roll out this new option for our customers and this “Frost” White display will soon be installed in our conference room at the store. You can learn more about this cabinet line here on their website. We also showcased some DIY stick-on wall planks installed in our booth. This great product that can be used for so many fun projects. We covered the back wall surface of our booth in the “Pewter” wall plank adding floating shelves and our LED back-lit sign.

Our Home Show booth included new and exciting product launches like the connected appliances Whirlpool has introduced recently. What is a “connected range” and how can voice commands and scan-to-cook features make your life easier? We would LOVE to answer those questions for you. The Black Stainless connected range we brought to the home show is now back in our appliance showroom. Our expert sales team will explain all of the great features and benefits these “smart” appliances have to offer.

“We have a lot of fun every year at the Home Show. We try and make our booth open, inviting, and exciting. This show is our opportunity to invite guests into our booth to meet our team and get all of their questions answered about our store and our process”

-Elizabeth Round, Village Team Member

This year we installed a lighting grouping that focused on some of the current trends we are seeing in finish and style. “Gold” finishes are definately back in style but the new take on this trend is subtle, brushed, and can be blended with other metals and finishes well. We have seen lighting trends shift from a Farmhouse style into a more Coastal look. We had a lot of interest in the weathered, wooden-beaded chandelier from our booth.

We included two engineered quartz countertops in our cabinet displays this year. We answered so many questions about countertop surfaces and their differences from guests who visited us. The large kitchen island we displayed included one of our promotional-priced quartz surfaces named “Rolling Fog” (shown below on left with Ogee Edge). Learn more about our 2019 Quartz promotion here in a past blog post.

The back wall of our booth had a stunning statement quartz surface from our Cambria Quartz line. The Skara Brae design (shown above on right) blends on-trend grays and whites in an innovative natural-stone lookalike pattern. This series of quartz from Cambria offers you the look of a marble pattern with the maintenance-free piece of mind you get by investing in quartz surfaces.

Advance Homes Quad Cities- Gray Stained Hickory Kitchen

As we spend this upcoming week prepping our booth for the Quad Cities Builders and Remodelers Home Show, we thought it would be fitting to make our next featured project a new home kitchen. Village Home Stores has become well known to be your expert remodeling team… but did you know we also partner with incredible local builders to create amazing spaces in new homes? We are thrilled to have provided cabinetry and lighting for this home recently built by Advance Homes of the Quad Cities. The kitchen is truly breathtaking!

With a Matte Black painted kitchen island and Hickory cabinetry on the perimeter, this kitchen gives a rustic and restoration feel but in a more tailored and sophisticated way. The single-level kitchen island has access to storage all around it and an overhang on two sides allows for counter-height seating for many guests. The same “Bristol” doorstyle is used on the Maple painted island and the main Hickory kitchen cabinetry. The cabinets in this kitchen are from our Koch Classic Cabinetry line and the rich, smooth Hickory has been stained a warm gray named “Stone”. Look at how many tones and values of the hickory wood and stain come through on the cabinetry. Hickory with a “Stone” stain is a great look that suites many styles and tastes.

Walk-through pantry fronts are available from Koch Cabinetry to help create the look of a large pantry cabinet with the hidden reveal of a full walk-in space. Many of our customers building in the Quad Cities area request a design that includes one of these pantry fronts. In this kitchen it is located in the corner. Our cabinet designer has allowed this pantry front and side panels to reach all the way to the ceiling for a great finished look. The lighting for this home was also from Village Home Stores. We have an absolute crush on this island fixture the customer selected with our team!

This Alanna 6-light pendant measures 54″ long and 14″ wide. Selecting the right lighting above a kitchen island is all about scale and design. In this kitchen a large, single fixture is used. With the open design to the light, it keeps the finished look open and airy. This light is from our ELK line and the restoration style fixture is an Oil Rubbed Bronze finish. Don’t forget that you can shop our complete lighting catalog online, anytime here at villagehomestores.com/lighting . When you are building a home with us, we will provide you with a lighting login to our website. Once logged in you can collaborate with our new home lighting team selecting fixtures and viewing your estimates.

We repeated the same cabinetry from the kitchen in a nearby dry bar area. Here we have included base door and drawer cabinets and a space for a glass-front beverage cooler. In the wall cabinet design there is a center cabinet with doors prepped for glass. An X style mullion design adds a great detail. In place of glass, we have added antiqued mirror inserts. This is a interesting look and allows you to have maximum storage that doesn’t have to be styled for display inside. Down the front hall from this dry bar area is the front entry where we included a great lantern-shaped foyer light.

The “Blacksmith” lantern from Sea Gull Lighting gives the suggestion of traditional style with the shape in a more updated and transitional style by keeping just a wire open frame. Each of the bathrooms in the home we also provided cabinetry, vanity tops, and lighting for. The main bathroom (shown below) includes a new trend of surrounding a framed mirror with two pendants. The “Gramercy” pendants from ELK make a unique statement in Oil Rubbed Bronze.

The Hickory “Stone” cabinetry is repeated from the kitchen in this bath and a cultured marble vanity top from our Onyx Collection completes the look. In the master bathroom, a “Black” paint is used on the double bowl vanity. We love how this builder added an outlet on the end of the bath vanity. This keeps the wall clear and helps to keep the focus on the beautiful framed mirrors and vanity lights. A bright Chrome finish of these Feiss vanity lights help to create a contrast to the dark cabinet.

How To Use Houzz Ideabooks

Curious how you can use this platform to help organize your remodel or new home project? Your first step is to sign up for a user Houzz profile of your own. This allows you to log into the app and keep your ideas organized as well as use the messaging system within the app to contact professionals like us privately with questions. TIP: they do send quite a few emails to users, so try and un-select any options available to avoid a full inbox of notifications Next you will want to create some ideabooks for you to sort and save your ideas into. Think of ideabooks as file folders within your Houzz profile to keep things organized. On the Village Home Stores profile, we use ideabooks to sort categories of product or areas of a design (i.e. kitchen hood ideas, flooring, tiled backsplashes, etc). Follow this link to see our ideabooks.

You can create many ideabooks, or choose to just build one to “save” your ideas to. Within the Houzz app you can even make notes to yourself about an idea you are saving. Another great feature is sharing these ideabooks with a spouse or your design professional to start a conversation about how you can take your idea and include it in your own project. Houzz has great features within sharing like adding text, sketching on images, arrows, and even stickers to the idea as you collaborate.

While we don’t add every single project we work on to the platform, we try and update it at least a few times a month to give you a fresh idea of the work we are completing around the Quad Cities region. Village is so blessed to be located in Geneseo, IL because it means we can work in such a large surrounding area. You will see so many different cities represented in our projects. You can browse our projects on Houzz here at this link.

Your kind words help our store stand out online and give our potential new customers way to learn who we are and the work we do. We have also been awarded a few other badges on our profile. We have been recognized as being “knowledgeable and highly valued by the Houzz community” with a Houzz Influencer badge. Heartland Builders- Custom Amish Kitchen Cabinets and Marble Look Quartz Tops

Who sells custom cabinetry and countertops in the Quad Cities? Village Home Stores. -villagehomestores.com

At Village Home Stores we offer a variety of cabinetry products so that we can suit any budget and need in the Quad Cities area. When those needs are a completely customized cabinet layout and a chic custom paint and finish, our Amish-built cabinetry from Four Acre Wood Products is perfect! Since Mother Nature has blessed us with so much bright white snow this week, we wanted to return the favor to you with this bright white kitchen feature. Take a look at this stunning space in a recent home we worked on with Heartland Builders of the Quad Cities.

This bright white kitchen just HAD to be featured this week because the paint color is appropriately named “Winter White”. There is truly nothing more classic than a flat-panel kitchen cabinet painted white. It has rested comfortably atop every Kitchen and Bath showroom’s bestselling list for years and has shown no signs of getting kicked off the top of that list. In this open-concept great room space the bright white painted cabinets are a perfect way to keep the entire room feeling light and inviting.

A Lesson in Scale, Rhythm, and Symmetry:

This single image (above) is such a crash course in design we love it so much! How can you keep a single-wall kitchen design from feeling sterile or too contemporary? Careful consideration of your details and keeping a balance with those choices. Scale, rhythm and symmetry are so key in any successful design. Notice how instead of two pendants above that large kitchen island above, there are three? That’s because the scale of light fixture suggests using three to keep that great balance for the eye. Select a larger pendant light and instead two lights would look right. But how is rhythm found in design? Scroll back and “read” the image from left to right and notice what elements repeat. There is a rhythm to it! The staggering up and down of cabinet heights, the doors on the back of the island, the glass in the hood cabinet area, and those pendants.

Of course the beautiful symmetry of the design is soothing to any eye. The walking pantry front on the left is complimented by the tall refrigerator area on the right and so on. Split this kitchen design down the center and the balance is so great that even Marie Kondo herself would have nothing left to “tidy” up about it.

So Why Choose Custom Amish Cabinetry?

As we mentioned before, we have a wide variety of cabinets available at Village Home Stores. From semi-custom, stock-sized cabinets to completely handcrafted heirloom-quality custom cabinets. So why invest in the latter? Because if craftsmanship and quality is something you value, then you will make it a priority for your budget to select one of our custom cabinetry lines. Our mid-range cabinet lines offer upgrades to provide features that are just considered standards for a custom line. With even more upgrades that are available to take your cabinet design to that mentioned heirloom-quality level of craftsmanship. For instance, this Coal Valley kitchen includes soft close hardware on all drawers and doors as well as an all plywood cabinet case, lock-mitered exposed ends, and hand-sanded drawerboxes.

With a custom cabinet line you also have the ability to view and build the kitchen design as an entire completed look, not individual boxes of cabinetry. Sections of cabinetry like the wood hood area and surrounding wall cabinets (shown above) can be built as one section of cabinetry instead of four cabinets. This makes for a more seamless installation and furniture style finished look for areas like hoods, bars, and kitchen islands.

Speaking of seamless design, how about the sleek look of these quartz counters extending up as a full-height backsplash! Full-height kitchen backsplashes are such a classic look and we have been installing so many more of them in both traditional and transitional spaces. A single-wall kitchen design like this is a perfect location for this design choice. The look is fantastic and of course the surface is so much easier to keep clean than a tiled and grouted surface. This quartz is from our Q Quartz line and the faux marble look design is named “Calacatta Laza”.

We also provided the cabinetry and countertop surfaces for the rest of this gorgeous new home. We wanted to share two of the other spaces with you that had a contrasting painted “Matte Black” finish to the bright white kitchen. The first is a slab-style floating vanity we designed for the main bathroom. Floating vanities make such a unique statement and against the textured wall, this look is so fantastic! We also love that the clients chose a vessel sink to add to the vanity statement. The quartz counter surface in this bathroom is the Cambria “Blackwood” design.

We would love to raise a glass and toast this fabulous home bar area as well! The “Hastings” door in a painted black maple wood is from our Koch Classic line of cabinetry. We have paired the rich, dark cabinet finish with “Black Pearl” granite countertops. There is something so sophisticated about a glossy, polished granite top that really makes it take this home bar area to a “top-shelf” look! We also installed this same polished Black Pearl granite in an outdoor kitchen at the home (yes, we can help you make a stunning outdoor kitchen too).

Eldridge Iowa Bathroom Remodel With Laundry Area

Did you know that Village Home Stores services the entire extended Quad Cities Region? What does that mean exactly? It means that our showroom in Geneseo, IL us really just a short drive away from many cities in the surrounding Illinois and Iowa area. Eldridge Iowa is a wonderful example of one of those cities. In recent years we have had our design and product installed in both new and existing homes there. This week’s feature project is a remodeled Master Bathroom just 35 miles away from our showroom in Eldridge. Take a look at this great new space.

Bath vanity before and after in an Eldridge, Iowa bathroom remodeled start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

We have replaced the single sink vanity area with a double-bowl layout. Cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the “Bristol” door and Maple wood species. Our bestselling gray neutral “Fog” paint is applied with Satin Nickel Bremen handles. A closet area has been converted to a stylish laundry nook inside the Master Bath. Wall cabinetry hangs above a front-load washer and dryer from our Maytag line. Having laundry located on the main level of a home can be such a convenience! And with these front-loaders now located in the Master Suite of the home, sorting and putting away laundry is just steps from the machines. We also installed a wall of cabinetry opposite the washer and dryer that includes a tall cabinet and a hanging rail.

Pedestals raise the washer and dryer up to a level that is ideal for loading and unloading the machines. Each pedestal opens up to provide more storage. They even fit short, rectangle-style laundry baskets within! This laundry pair is a powerhouse for any household! Backed by Maytag’s 10 Year Limited Parts Warranty with coverage on the Direct Drive Motor, Washer Basket, and Drum. Large capacity, steam settings, and a refresh cycle make them a great choice for a front load pair. We have installed new floor tile throughout the bathroom. It is a 12″x 24″ Amelia tile in the “Mist” color. This same tile is used as the wall tiles in a new custom shower area. We snapped a photo of the new shower before the custom door was installed:

Aren’t those custom wall niches great!? Symmetrical shelves make it easy to separate and store toiletries and soaps. The accent tile used as the shower floor, bench, and inside of these niches is also banded around the shower walls. The 2″ x 2″ basket-weave tile is from the same Ameila series as the wall tiles but in the contrasting “Carbon” color. We love how the bench area looks like it just waterfalls down into the shower floor in this home.

A Delta shower head and removable hand wand was installed for the new shower. Notice that the wand is adjustable for location and it is attached to a grab bar for added safety.

Including grab bars in a bathroom remodel is a wise investment for any home no matter your age or ability. Age-at-home features like these grab bars add a level of safety for all users and certainly add a priceless piece of mind to your remodel selections once everything is installed and finished.

We included another storage area above the new toilet in the bathroom. These stand-alone cabinets are called “toilet toppers” and typically include an open shelf space as well as a concealer door area for toilet paper and other items to be stored out of sight.

Next to the toilet is a great example of our Radiant series of switches and outlets. Notice how this series has no visible screws!? We love that clean look and detail. This series has many great options including a nightlight (shown off/on below).

In keeping with the other clean and fresh material selections, a marble-look quartz counter was installed to replace the original navy blue cultured marble top. This color is the Carrara Grigio design with an undermounted Caxton sink. A quartz backsplash and endsplashes complete the look.
