Kitchen With Warm Gray Oak Cabinetry, Quartz, and Tile in Colona, IL

The rumors you have heard are true, Oak cabinetry is having it’s moment again in our industry! The look trending right now just may not look like the 80’s/90’s Oak kitchens you have seen in the past. Doorstyles and finish trends are different and there are a lot of great ideas out there for how to two-tone a kitchen design using an Oak finish. The best remodel result from the rising Oak trend right now is that you can get a new look in your kitchen and bath that compliments the existing Oak trim and doors you have throughout your home. A great example of this is in a recent remodel we just finished in Colona, IL. Take a look:

Dura Supreme Cabinetry in Red Oak wood and gray stain. Paired with Viking cooking appliances, Limestone tile, and Cambria Berwyn Quartz. | villagehomestores.com

Red Oak in the Highland door and warm gray “Heather” stain allows the wood grain to enhance and add texture to the kitchen. This kitchen showcases our Dura Supreme line of cabinetry in a way that thinks outside of the “white kitchen” box! Yes, a great cabinet solution when you have existing wood trim and doors is to go with a painted finish… but what about a contrasting stain instead? The kitchen image below is a great example of how this Heather gray stain allows the woodgrain to be enhanced and compliments the nearby oak door and existing oak antique hutch right next to the tall pantry cabinet.

Dura Supreme Cabinetry in Red Oak wood and gray stain. Paired with Gray Limestone tile, and Cambria Berwyn Quartz. Kitchen designed and remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores.

As you can see in these images from the finished kitchen, the woodgrain adds so much depth and texture to the space. Gray stain is an updated approach to an Oak kitchen. The finished kitchen has its own impact but now looks right a home with all of the other surrounding spaces as well. A small island is at the center of the U-shaped kitchen design. This provides a great landing space for the cooking and refrigerator zones and also a large work surface for a second kitchen user if another is at the sink or cooking areas.

The wall tile in this kitchen remodel was another material selection that showcases natural beauty. An “Arctic Gray” honed Limestone is cut and beveled into 2″x4″ tiles and each is different from the next. The lightest of the tiles mirrors the color of the countertops, and the darkest mirrors the color of the cabinetry stain. Our Diode LED undercabinet lighting system showcases this tile day or night. Cambria Berwyn Quartz counters in a remodeled kitchen with small island. Kitchen designed and remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores.

The countertop surfaces in this remodeled kitchen are from our Cambria Quartz line. The Berwyn design has been a bestseller for us for a handful of years now. It is such a winning mix of warm grays and whites that it looks fantastic in such a wide variety of completed spaces! Cambria Quartz is a great surface selection for your kitchen because it is foodsafe, maintenance free, and extremely durable. See the full album of photos from this completed remodel here on our Houzz profile. We love the glass door details in this kitchen design. This kitchen uses a double cathedral-arched mullion shape with a textured glass insert. Texture or frosted glass can be a great choice if you want the decorative look of glass door cabinets… without having to “display” items within it. Another great glass texture in the completed space is found in the kitchen island lighting. Two mercury glass pendant lights from the Everly series by Kichler look so stunning on and off! When illuminated, a warm glow is the result and when turned off, the glass still has such a unique texture!

Moline Quad Cities Kitchen Remodel With Wall Removed

This week’s featured project takes us to a home in Moline, IL that was in need of an update to brighten and open up the existing kitchen. We removed soffits, a portion of a wall, dark oak cabinetry, plus dated counters and appliances to create an airy and bright new space. We think you will love the new kitchen design. Take a look at what was selected:

Subway tile backsplash in Ababescato Carrara marble. Complete kitchen remodels from start to finish. | villagehomestores.com

We had recently remodeled a nearby bathroom for this customer that is just around the corner. This Arabescato Carrara Marble subway tile is a material choice that carries over from that bath remodel project into the kitchen. We love the way the natural stone brings a unique mix of grays and even a subtle blue tint to the kitchen space. This blend of bright whites and subtle grays are what allows the light to bounce around this bright kitchen.

With soffits removed, the new cabinetry can stretch all the way to the ceiling in a flat-panel door named “Prairie” by our Koch Classic Cabinetry line. The cabinets have been finished with a White paint. The U-shaped kitchen layout has only had one appliance location change, moving the dishwasher closer to the sink. You can see the original location for the dishwasher was clear across the room (see below).

Not only were we able to move the dishwasher to a more useful location, we were even able to squeeze a lazy susan cabinet in the corner instead of the original “blind corner” cabinet. We just love how bright and clean this new kitchen looks with the materials selected. Flat panel white kitchen cabinetry may sound like a basic choice, but it is truly the best transitional platform you can give yourself for a kitchen or bathroom space. White cabinetry can be styled so many ways and to suit so many tastes. In this home, the white cabinets have an almost art gallery effect on the curated framed artwork and decor items allowing them to pop.

This KitchenAid dishwasher is just part of an entire package of Stainless Steel appliances that are truly built for those who love the cooking process. Recognize this gas range? That may be because it was also the gas range model from our last kitchen featured here on the blog. This 30″ wide front-control gas range includes convection features and 5 burners on top.

KitchenAid low profile microwave hood and 700ESS gas range in a remodeled Quad Cities kitchen from Village Home Stores. Complete kitchen remodels from start to finish. | villagehomestores.com

We love the new design of KitchenAid’s front-control ranges because they give you the look of a custom, slide-in range but they fit into a standard 30″ wide opening. Yes! That means if you have a standard gas range right now, this KSGG700ESS will slide right into that opening and give you a clean and professional look. But did you notice that microwave hood was a little shorter than normal?

KitchenAid low profile microwave hood in a remodeled Quad Cities kitchen from Village Home Stores. Complete kitchen remodels from start to finish. | villagehomestores.com

The new low-profile microwave hood launched by KitchenAid is a game-changer! Do you currently have a range hood installed beneath a cabinet and wish you could install a microwave hood there? This is the model for you! Now without modifying the height of that top cabinet, this 10.3″ tall model can be installed allowing you 500 CFMs of ventilation plus a microwave cavity that still fits a full dinner plate and definitely that fully-popped bag of popcorn. What does 500 CFMs look like in power? Take a peek at this example on the right compared to a standard microwave hood:

For those who love the cooking process and tend to make some smoke while working in the kitchen, this is the microwave hood you need! Learn more about this new style of microwave hood in a recent segment from the Village Home Show. Press play below to hear what Rachele and Elizabeth learned about them:

These microwave hoods are a welcome addition to an existing kitchen just in need of a new functional look, but also looks right at home in this new design. This Moline, IL kitchen was remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. What does that mean? That means that the client teamed up with us and our Complete Project Management team to organize every step of the process with them. All kitchen designs with us begin with the same initial consult meeting in-store. From there, our project management clients are given a whole different checklist of events than our DIY clients.

Village Home Stores kitchen remodel experts for the Quad Cities area. Complete kitchen remodels from start to finish. | villagehomestores.com

One of the key moments in this Project Management remodel process is the contractor meeting during the estimating process. We arrange a meeting in your home with all of the crews who will be bidding the work. We then discuss what needs to be estimated for the project and from there we can not only present you with a more accurate total project number, we can also spell out all of your work included in an inclusion sheet. In this Quad Cities home we removed a section of a wall dividing the kitchen and dining room spaces (see before and after below).

With that work to be done (plus electrical, tile, carpentry, and plumbing work) we had a full schedule of events to get us to the finish line. That meant we needed to schedule multiple crews for the best use of time and in the right order to get this kitchen done by the Holidays. We did! We know your time is valuable and nobody enjoys living in a home during the remodel process so we try and keep to using reliable and efficient crews who are used to working together and can keep us all on track. If all that sounds overwhelming, don’t worry! Village Home Stores will do all of that schedule work for you.

We also transformed another wall in the kitchen design. We removed a fireplace from the end of the original kitchen and gave that wall a whole new function. Now there is a gorgeous wine sideboard cabinet centered on the space and we have added pantry fronts to match the kitchen cabinet doors.

Each of those tall doors open to deep, shelved storage and a broom/cleaning closet area. We love how this end of the kitchen has now become a part of the kitchen design itself. We included a glass door cabinet at the center of the space and two wine cubby base cabinets for storage and decoration.

Wood countertops can also be ordered from Village Home Stores. This one came from the same shop that built our cabinetry. By using a wood top on a sideboard element like this, your result is a more built-in and furniture look for the section of cabinetry. Have a nearby dining room or home office that could use some cabinetry design? Don’t hesitate to contact Village. We can save you a lot of time shopping for the right piece of furniture and instead build you the perfect one!

On the subject of countertop surfaces, allow is to introduce you to this marble-look engineered quartz surface by Cambria Quartz. This is the Brittanicca design in a standard eased edge. The large-format marble pattern gives you the look and character of a marble surface with the no-hassle and worry-free piece of mind quartz surfaces offer.

A perfect compliment to the marble look Brittanicca quartz counters, the true marble tile selected for the kitchen backsplash is stunning. Arabescato Carrara has subtle variations from tile to tile and it is just enough to bring natural stone character to the space. We also installed our Radiant Collection series of switches and outlets throughout the remodeled kitchen design. White plates and fixtures were a great choice to seamlessly blend in with the overall look. Notice one of our favorite features of this series… no visible screws on the backplates!

Of course we added creative storage solutions anywhere we could for this customer in their cabinetry. Pull-out cabinets, tray dividers, sliding shelves and more. In remodel situations like these, you many times only have a handful of cabinets to work with in a design. You must make the most of that space and our experts are here to help you do that.

With the dividing wall partially removed, we were able to install a new peninsula area to add a lot of cabinet storage and a stunning arched countertop surface with an overhang for casual seating. Geneseo, IL kitchen design with Koch Cabinetry and Cambria quartz. Design by Chris Robinson of Village Home Stores for Hazelwood Homes. | villagehomestores.com

What a beautiful space! Selecting white kitchen cabinetry in a great room kitchen setting is always a wonderful choice to keep the entire open concept light and airy. It is a classic cabinet finish that has remained on home magazines covers for years and years. This kitchen space takes a classic look to a whole new level though with added details and material choices that keep it functional and very eye-catching. Beginning with the statement accent island in the center of the kitchen.

This single-level kitchen island includes storage on three sides, outlets on each end, and an overhang for counter-height seating. A gradual, curved radius has been applied to that overhang to soften the look. This island is the best area to showcase the countertop selection for the kitchen. The “Summerhill” design from Cambria Quartz is as durable as it is gorgeous. A blend of expertly curated neutral quartz colors makes it work with so many styles and material combinations. Cambria’s innovative fabrication process even adds a natural looking veining to the slabs. This gives you the look of natural stone with a control of color. It is also an incredibly durable product and perfect surface for any active kitchen. Learn more about Cambria Quartz here in a past blog post.

Above is a closer shot of the “Summerhill” tops in this kitchen. Notice how it includes whites, beiges, grays, AND even a black fleck! Stop in and see samples and installed examples of Cambria Quartz at our showroom. Curious how a Cambria color will look in your existing kitchen? There’s an AR app to “try” them on! Learn more here on the Cambria site! The perimeter counters in this kitchen have been an “Ogee” edge applied for added style and dimension. A great way to show off that the Cambria quartz colors are throughout the entire slab of material from top to bottom. Now do us a favor. Scroll back up to the very first image of this kitchen and look at the inset doorstyle of the kitchen cabinets we’ll wait right here for you to return… and reveal that AREN’T inset doors at all! But at first glance did we have you tricked?

Geneseo, IL kitchen design with Koch Cabinetry and Whirlpool appliances. Design and materials by Village Home Stores for Hazelwood Homes. | villagehomestores.com

Inset cabinetry is an incredible look and a very classic choice for any kitchen design. But in this home, we have given the illusion of a high-end inset door at a fraction of the investment. This is the “Lexington” door from our Koch Express line of cabinetry. It has been painted in the “White” finish and a “Black Accent” has been applied to the door details. That added accent is what give the illusion of a door inset and shadowed. This small detail added to a traditional-overlay cabinet door gives a great look. It also helps to compliment the black island cabinetry perfectly. We love how the kitchen island pendants compliment the appliances in this space. These 16 1/2″ pendant lights are from Quorum’s Signature Collection and are in the Satin Nickel finish. Satin nickel is a great compliment to the Whirlpool Stainless Steel appliances.

Geneseo, IL kitchen design with Koch Cabinetry and tall hood with cathedral ceiling. Design by Chris Robinson of Village Home Stores for Hazelwood Homes. | villagehomestores.com

A 26 cu. ft. French Door refrigerator with double drawers and dual icemakers is a great choice for this busy kitchen. The focal point of this wall s the 30″ wide 5-burner gas cooktop with a tall chimney hood above. Shop all of our appliances any day, any time here on our new mobile-friendly website. What a great look for this wall of the kitchen design! Look at how the tile extends all of the way up to meet the angled ceiling behind the hood. A clean look on the edge of that tile is achieved by using a metal edge band to “cap” off the ends in a complimenting Nickel finish.

Oh trust us, we know you noticed that pot-filler faucet above the cooktop right away! Our envy-radar also went off when we saw it. Choices like these are what make a space gorgeous AND functional. We wanted to also showcase here the use of a classic subway tile in white paired with an accent tile and contrasting grout. White subway tile with a dark contrasting grout is an on-trend look but it’s not for everyone. In this kitchen, it would have been a very busy look to have a darker contrast. This subtle color choice pulls a neutral from the counter surface color and the look is great. The accent tile here is from Epic Stone’s Interlocking series in the “Everest” color combination. We also used this same accent tile in one of the tiled showers in the home (shown below).

tiled shower in a Geneseo, IL bathroom. Tile by Village Home Stores for Hazelwood Homes. | villagehomestores.com

This shower includes an elongated version of a subway tile These tiles are 4″ x 16″ and installed horizontally, they add a stylish detail while helping to make the shower seem wider. That same accent tile fro the kitchen is used as a band around the shower and also reappears on the front face of the corner bench. A 2″ hexagon tile is used here as the shower floor. Notice also the installation of a shower grab bar at the entrance. See more examples of grab bars we have installed here in this Houzz ideabook. This has become a common request from our clients of all ages and abilities. Installing assistance like this that will help a customer age-at-home and just remain safe is always a great investment!

The main kitchen perimeter is a “White” painted cabinetry in the same “Bristol” doorstyle as the kitchen island. The pantry and refrigerator wall of the kitchen actually conceals a hidden feature. The pantry doors open to reveal access to the large walk-in pantry space that turns the corner behind the wall of cabinetry. This same look can be applied in a remodel situation with existing closets or unique spaces. Counter depth refrigerator models can really help you so much when the design demands it for traffic paths and space allowances. That same flooring is installed in the foyer, great room, kitchen, pantry, dinette, powder room and the formal dining room shown above. We love the light fixture selected for the formal dining room. A Quad Cities Kitchen Remodeled Start to Finish

One of the best things about being in our industry is that every single project we work on is different from the next. Even when kitchen and bath trends are put into action, the applications are always different because no space is the same. Village Home Stores has the great privilege of placing our designs and products in new and existing homes in the extended Quad Cities Region and we love each project we complete. We normally don’t admit it when we have favorites… but this week’s featured remodel story in Bettendorf, Iowa is one of our favorites fromf the year for sure! Two tone kitchen in Bettendorf, Iowa with large kitchen island, waterfall Cambria counters, Black Stainless appliances, and a custom walnut wood top table. | villagehomestores.com

This Bettendorf, Iowa customer found Village Home Stores by catching our weekly television show that airs every Sunday at 9am on WQAD. On the Village Home Show we are able to showcase remodel stories from right here in the Quad Cities area. So when this family was ready, they knew who to call. The original oak cabinetry layout really divided the kitchen from the dining and living spaces. There is a beautiful outside pool area just steps away from the kitchen in this home. With the peninsula in place, it was a long voyage to the kitchen sink from the pool.

We were so thrilled with the ideas they came to us with for a more open concept kitchen. When we say that the kitchen is the hub of the home, this household is a great example of that. With access to lofted living room and the backyard pool retreat, this new kitchen design needed to be functional and stylish. We began by removing the original kitchen… but kept one main element in place to help save some cost to the clients.Need a kitchen remodeler that can manage your project from start to finish? This kitchen has been given a whole new look but we kept the original tile floors! That’s right! Because the tile flooring was installed before the original kitchen cabinets went in, there was no void left when we tore out the kitchen peninsula. A new knee-wall was installed with power for island outlets. Take one more look at the original oak kitchen with the peninsula + table layout….Contact the Quad Cities kitchen experts at Village Home Stores.

…and now the kitchen absorbs the dining space into one cohesive look. In fact, the kitchen and dining spaces are now joined into one concept by an incredible and versatile island design. The overall space has been brightened up significantly with lighter, airy material selections, added lighting, and the installation of mirror in some cabinetry. Two tone kitchen in Bettendorf, Iowa with large kitchen island, waterfall Cambria counters, Black Stainless appliances, and a custom walnut wood top table. | villagehomestores.com

A large kitchen island is the centerpiece to the new open concept. On the end near the backyard access, a custom table has been placed at dining height. We designed the dining table to be placed right next to the kitchen island. However, the table can be moved out if needed. A custom wood base was built for this design by our carpentry team and our painters painted it to compliment the kitchen cabinetry and trim.Remodeled kitchen in Bettendorf, Iowa with custom farmtable base. | villagehomestores.com

A gorgeous wood top from our Craft-Art line was secured on top of the base. With the main kitchen cabinetry all in painted finishes, a woodgrain was a welcomed element. The Black Walnut plank-style wood top adds warmth and an upscale texture to the space. We think its is best complimented with the warm backslash tile glowing with our undercabinet lighting system.

Can’t find the right table to match your new kitchen from Village? Let us make one for you to ensure that it lines up with the overall design concept! Finding the right size and finish can be tricky. But rest assured, we can build just about anything you can dream up. This rich, smooth Black Walnut top was given a stylish and classic “Ogee” edge profile. The feel and sheen of these wood tops are truly heirloom quality. Learn more about these wood tops here in a previous postRemodeled kitchen in Bettendorf, Iowa with CraftArt Black Walnut tabletop in Ogee edge. | villagehomestores.com

Even though this wood top is a showstopper, the Cambria Quartz in this kitchen is not to be ignored. Take a peek at this image below showing the remodel while it was still in progress. Notice that a piece of Cambria was installed on the cooktop wall for a dramatic look. Need a kitchen remodeler that can manage your project from start to finish? This statement wall creates a dramatic contrast of a marble look on the wall with a graphic black hood as an eye-catching continuation from the dark base cabinets. In fact, the Cambria Britannica Warm Quartz seems to almost cascade down behind the hood, flow up from the floor, over the kitchen island, and pour back down again on the other side.

Of course a glassy, gloss finish in a bright space always adds a great upscale detail. This Cambria design includes warm gray veining and is a classic compliment to the dark appliances and painted base cabinetry. A new approach to a two tone kitchen, dark painted bases with a bright and airy upper cabinet in a separate finish. Many times this trend is installed with open or floating shelves for the upper cabinetry. But in this design, we wanted to provide as much usable storage as possible.

The use of mirrors in some of the wall cabinetry does add a lighter weight to the look of the upper cabinets. The “X” design in the cabinet door is an updated and more Transitional style detail. We love the way mirrors help to brighten up a room (plus conceal the cabinet interior). Two tone kitchen in Bettendorf, Iowa with mirrored door cabinets and X-design. Quartz in a marble look is a great choice for a busy kitchen and large island work surface like this. Cambria Quartz in the Brittanicca Warm design offers a classic look of a marble with a maintenance-free advantage. The island countertop has a standard “Eased” edge applied to it to maintain a cleaner installation and look with the waterfalling edge. Two tone kitchen in Bettendorf, Iowa with Cambria Brittanicca Warm quartz counters installed with a waterfall design on the island. Matte Black is one of our favorite home trends and this kitchen rocks the trend so well! The soft, rich look of Dura Supreme’s painted “Graphite” finish on the base cabinetry pairs so well with KitchenAid’s Black Stainless Steel finish appliances. Black Stainless is not just for super contemporary spaces. This Transitionally-styled space is proof of that. Plus it is fingerprint resistant! Remodeled kitchen in Bettendorf, Iowa with KitchenAid Black Stainless appliances. KitchenAid was the first in their industry to launch a Black Stainless Steel finish and the look is sophisticated. But a KitchenAid kitchen is at it’s best when in use! A counter-depth French Door refrigerator includes incredible fresh and frozen food storage. A 30″ Combination Wall Oven and Microwave has so many features and a large capacity when needed. Another great appliance detail in this kitchen is the undercounter 15″  Ice Maker. What an absolute dream for anyone who entertains! Of course when you have a pool… people tend to show up.Remodeled kitchen in Bettendorf, Iowa with KitchenAid Black Stainless icemaker and custom paneled undercounter beverage cooler. | villagehomestores.com

This 15″ automatic ice maker produces ice that is perfect for every occasion.  It opens to reveal a storage bin that can hold up to 25 pounds of ice. Next to the Ice Maker we installed a beverage cooler with a custom panel to match the cabinetry. This kept the beverage area of the new kitchen looking symmetrical. Panel-ready appliances can be a wonderful custom option. We offer them in many refrigerator and  dishwasher options. We kept the original tile floors in the kitchen but a new tile backsplash was installed.

3″ x 12″ textured tiles in “New Yorker” series and “Taupe” color. We love how they almost have the appearance of being underwater with their texture and reflection. Our stylish adorne series of switches and outlets from legrand looks great on the tile in a contrasting color and matte finish.Remodeled kitchen in Bettendorf, Iowa with legrand adorne system of outlets and switches. Kitchen designed and remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

The square design of this series looks great and is very versitile with options. Since sart home tech is at the top of every homeowner and homebuyer’s wishlist we should also mention this kitchen lighting system takes voice commands! Using the legrand app and connected to an amazon Alexa, we had a lot of fun testing out this new product. Press play below to watch a Facebook live video we taped at this completed jobsite to see how easy it is to use voice commands with this adorne system.

Smart home tech has reached the kitchen industry in a big way over the last few years and this year even more products are set to launch to make your life easier and more enjoyable. This homeowner was able to connect many of the lighting switches in the home and now can even switch lights off and on when they are away from home using the app.Remodeled kitchen in Bettendorf, Iowa with legrand connected lighting system. Connect with the legrand app and even enable voice commands for your controls. | villagehomestores.com

We have completed many new spaces using the adorne series from legrand. These outlet covers are a perfect match to the painted Graphite cabinetry in this kitchen. They match so well  that our “hidden” pop-up outlet in the island is totally camouflaged when it isn’t in use. Remodeled kitchen in Bettendorf, Iowa with legrand adorne pop-out outlet. A hands-free waste basket cabinet, voice-controlled lighting, and even a wave-controlled kitchen faucet! There is just so much from this kitchen remodel story it is almost impossible to showcase it all here on the blog. We hope to film an upcoming episode of the Village Home Show to show you more of these great features in action. Remodeled kitchen in Bettendorf, Iowa with a stainless farmsink and Dura Supreme cabinetry in the painted Graphite finish. | villagehomestores.com
