Aspen Homes- Tastefully On Trend Meets Timeless

Many times customers are hesitant to embrace something labeled as a “trend” because they fear the look will be dated so quickly. The truth is in our industry…trends aren’t just a flash in the pan. Ever. For design choices like Gray Stains or Black Accents, these “trends” are long-term. Once you begin to see certain trends appear on magazine covers and in spaces on your favorite TV shows, the industry has committed to the concept. This latest project we completed with Aspen Homes LLC is so gorgeous we barely know where to begin the tour!  As we show you around the space we will pay attention to key trends at work in the kitchen:

Black Details And Accents In The Kitchen:

Kitchen with black window accent. Design and materials from Village Home Stores for Aspen Homes. | VillageHomeStores.com

Photo courtesy of Aspen Homes LLC , Bettendorf, IA

We love the black trim detail added to this Bettendorf, IA home. A farmhouse sink sits beneath three windows on one wall of the kitchen design. These three black windows add style and visual rhythm to the space. The two “Wadsworth” pendants that hang above the kitchen island are from our Hudson Valley line. Selecting the perfect lighting for your overall look is so important. The kitchen island pendants in this home are the perfect example of what we mean.

“Both the sconces and the island pendants get a lot of attention. I’m glad I took a risk with those pendants because they seem to tie it all together and ground a space filled with so much white.” -homeowner

That quote from the homeowner says it all! They truly do complete the entire design. The black accent, the shape, the brass, the circle element (see the barn door below), it is all perfection! A pendant like that in a catalog or our showroom may seem like a bold statement but our lighting team works hard with our clients to select fixtures perfect for their space. A statement may seem a bit out of your comfort level at the time but the impact will be great!

Introduce Gold Accents:

Between the windows hang “Margeaux” wall sconces from our Hinkley line. The “Vintage Brass” finish on the sconces is repeated in the kitchen cabinet hardware and accents on the island pendant lights. You do not have to go “all in” on this Gold Accent trend. Just introducing a few locations for it is great! New Traditional style is all about balancing old looks with new materials. In some cases New Traditional blends old finishes with new shapes and styles. Mixing metal finishes can look great when executed correctly and our team is here to help you find the perfect balance.

Soften The Look With Matte Finishes:

A great way to make a space more welcoming and less “cold” is to use softer, more matte finishes. Even a cold, hard material like granite can seem more approachable. In this case, a Granite named “Black Pearl” has been installed as the perimeter countertop material. Instead of a high-polished and reflective finish, the “Brushed” finish is used. The result: and Old World look almost like that of a soapstone countertop. The island countertop is from our Cambria Quartz line in their “Summerhill” design. Summerhill blends all of the surrounding colors together perfectly and offers up a natural stone veining look that adds character to the island.

Want a cabinet style and finish that is truly timeless? If you look at some of your own favorite kitchen spaces saved to your Pinterest or Houzz accounts is the common denominator perhaps a white painted cabinet? A flat-panel doorstyle in a white paint is as timeless of a cabinet commitment you can make. This kitchen has been installed in the “Savannah” door from our Koch Classic line. Chances are if you are drawn to the look of a white painted cabinet, you are also looking at Subway tile. This kitchen takes that classic subway tile and installs it all the way to the ceiling:

“It’s funny how many people love that the subway tile is taken to the ceiling. It was a simple addition that makes it all feel more special.” -homeowner

White painted flat-panel cabinetry and subway tile. We are giving you the definite green light for that winning combination! Again, these are classic and timeless selections you can make for your overall permanent investment. If 15 years from now you wanted to give this kitchen a new look, the entire kitchen may not need to come out to get that “new” update.

Showcase Your Workspace:

If you are going to invest in a great space to prepare meals, why not shine the spotlight on your busiest area? Cooking zones are where all the activity happens so why not make them the focal point of the space? Kitchens are no longer hidden in the back corner of a home. They have become the very center of all activity throughout your day. In this kitchen a unique hood design makes a statement of its own on the range wall. This custom wood hood aligns with the angle of the kitchen ceiling. A custom hood insert and 1200 CFM blower are fit on the interior of the hood. A clean hood design with a contrasting band of wood at the base completes the look. Below that hood is an envy-worthy 48″ wide range:

This KitchenAid® Dual Fuel, commercial-style range has 6 gas burners and a chrome electric griddle. The griddle provides exceptional cooking performance and features an easy-to-clean surface. Why Dual Fuel? This range combines the precise control of a gas cooking surface with an electric oven. In the culinary world even the most demanding of cooks can agree that dual fuel is the “best of both worlds” situation for a range. Immediate control for the cooktop and consistent baking, roasting, and broiling in the oven.

EvenHeat™ True Convection in the ovens provide consistent heating and even cooking on all racks. Convection helps ensure no burnt edges or undercooked centers and with EasyConvect™ Conversion, it is so easy to use these features. This range combines two ovens for a total of 6.3 cu. ft. of capacity. Shop appliances here or visit our store for an award-winning customer experience and a Low Price Guarantee on home appliances!

Warm Gray Stains:

Gray stains aren’t just still “in style”, they are growing and growing in popularity! Each of our cabinet lines have invested in continuing to add gray stains to their finish options. Grays have started to trend toward the warmer look. Warm grays blend well with other wood finishes and paints.

In this kitchen a tall pantry cabinet with drawers is finished in a contrasting gray stain named “Stone”. The same Savannah Doorstyle used in the main kitchen is a Cherry wood on the pantry cabinet. Cherry offers a warm and rich woodgrain for the “Stone” stain. We love the use of a contrasting cabinet finish in an unexpected application. We have come to expect the kitchen island, or perhaps a hood to have a contrast finish. Here the location gives the tall cabinet almost the look of a freestanding furniture piece.

This layout also provides the illusion of two kitchen islands. A peninsula runs parallel to the kitchen island. Prophetstown, IL Remodel – Pearl Painted Cabinets and Quartz Counters

We recently remodeled a Prophetstown, IL kitchen to bring the finishes and the layout up to date. Sometime the basic footprint of a kitchen design is a usable amount of space, but a few location adjustments can make a huge difference on the function of that space.
before

The “Before” of this project included medium stained cabinetry, soffits, and laminate counters with a drop in sink. The new look is bright and airy. Painted cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the Prairie doorstyle has been painted in the Pearl finish with an Umber highlight applied to accent the edges. The kitchen sink has been moved to the window wall to allow the range and hood to be the focal point of the new layout.
A Prophetstown, IL kitchen with materials, install and full remodel by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

Soffits were removed and the new wall cabinetry stretched all the way to the ceiling. If you think that “floating shelves” is a term reserved for Modern or Contemporary styled spaces, think again! Two floating shelves cap off the end of this run of wall cabinets. Hanging above the peninsula top below, these shelves are a fantastic updated look. They can be styled all through the year just as you would a glass-door cabinet.
floating-shelves

Gorgeous glass subway tile from our Interceramic line has been installed from their Interglass Shimmer series in the “Bronze” color. A standard brick lay pattern for the main backsplash is highlighted above the range with a decorative area of the same tile installed in a herringbone pattern.
Unique glass subway tile installation. | VillageHomeStores.com

This shimmering backsplash tile sits atop new Engineered Quartz counters from Cambria. The Lincolnshire design offers rich earthtones in a pattern that resembles a natural granite look. The look of a natural stone with all of the benefits of choosing Quartz counters. Quartz is heat resistant, scratch resistant, and maintenance free. These tops will look exactly like this decades from now.
cambria-lincolnshire

The kitchen peninsula offers an overhang area of Cambria with seating for two. We love the woven counter-height stools selected for the space. Decorative corbels and custom applied-panels complete the peninsula design.

A counter-depth french door refrigerator by Whirlpool® is given a true built-in look with surrounding 24″ deep pantry cabinets. A standard-depth model would project out into this high-traffic area of the layout. This counter-depth model sits back more flush with the surrounding cabinets and looks great!
Tall pantries surround a refrigerator. | VillageHomeStores.com

Each pantry is fit with full-depth shelving. The right pantry includes slideout shelves. This shelving system is adjustable so that you can arrange to store any height of items within. Discuss with your kitchen designer at Village Home Stores early on if there are any uniquely sized items or small appliances you wish you had a designated location for. Better to designate the perfect space for an item ahead of time than to clutter up your brand new kitchen counters!
pantries-by-refrigerator

Microwave hoods are great, but did you know that microwaves can be off the counter without needing to be located above a range? This kitchen includes Sharp® ‘s over-the-counter microwave model. This unit is designed to be installed below a wall cabinet but above a countertop space:
Sharp over the counter microwave available at Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

Believe it or not, Lazy Susan cabinets come in a wide variety of options. This kitchen includes a Lazy Susan cabinet configuration that offers you the most shelf space possible. The spinning wood trays are attached to a fixed shelf. This replaces the older “pole” style susan that sometimes came unattached or caused items to fall off in the back of the cabinet to be lost. Now the shelf and floor of the cabinet help keep items undercontrol if they were to fall.
Angled base corner cabinet. | VillageHomeStores.com

This base cabinet option is known as an Angled Base Corner Cabinet. That means that instead of an L-shaped cabinet with two hinged doors, a single door angles across the front corner. This gives you a full circle susan shelf (and plus more counter space above). We also gave a built-in hutch an update to match the new kitchen:
before-and-after-hutch

This hutch area is located on the wall between the kitchen and casual dining area. Now it looks right at home in the new space. See the entire album of images from this project here over on our award-winning Houzz.com portfolio. Are you ready to give your kitchen an update? Showroom Updates 2017: First Impressions

We are beyond thrilled to share our 2017 showroom updates with you here on the blog! Village Home Stores has a lot of great things planned as we move into 2017. This showroom update is a significant start! We have purchased a third storefront and added 1,200 sq. ft. of space for a brand new lighting showroom. We will show you are that complete lighting space and our remodel process later this week. Let’s begin today with a tour of our brand new front reception area:
New front desk area at Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

As our business continues to grow, we have changed and adapted our customer experience so that every person that visits our store leaves feeling glad they came. Our entire showroom now is over 9,000 sq. ft. that’s a lot of product and space all in one location! You will now enter the center door off of State Street and be greeted and guided by Therese. That’s Therese in the photo above, look how happy she looks in her new desk area! She creates all of our beautiful full-color renderings for our Kitchen & Bath Design customers. She will now be the first smiling face you see whether you are shopping for a single lightbulb, a full appliances package, or an entire home of products. The back wall of this new reception area is easily one of our favorite new areas of our entire showroom. Layers of texture and a variety of materials make a big first impression.
DuChateau Wood panels in the Kaudra style and Brown Ask finish. | VillageHomeStores.com

Have you seen our new signage inside the store? It looks so amazing day and night! We gave the folks at ItsaSchmollworld our logo and they gave us this incredible metal sign! We installed it over a Dahltile Limestone named Martinique Arctic Gray. The logo is back-lit with our Diode LED lighting system.
New Village Home Stores sign made by itsaschmollworld lit with our low-voltage Diode LED lighting system. | VillageHomeStores.comOne of best benefits of using our Diode LED lighting to back-light this sign is the fact that it is low-voltage. That means we can leave this sign lit all day and all night and use very little energy for the bold statement it makes. See for yourself how amazing this back wall looks in the evening when you are passing the store. The pendant lighting flanking the logo is another  great element to the finished design.
SQ3

These pendants are from our ELK Lighting line. The series is named Gramercy. We love the schoolhouse shape to the glass and the brushed finish pairs perfect with the metal logo sign on the same wall. The wood panels behind each pendant are a unique new product we have just launched, DuChateau wall coverings. These panels are from the Kaudra series in the Brown Ash finish. We are so excited to has access to this great new product! Consider these wall coverings for a fireplace wall or as an accent wall in a Master Bedroom. Below is a moodboard of the variety of finishes included in this new front desk:
Front reception desk finishes at Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

Brushed Bronze handles from our Top Knobs line add a warm matte-finish gold look which is right on trend for our industry. Two finishes and styles of DuraSupreme Cabinetry have been included in this desk design. Gray Painted cabinets in the Middleton doorstyle and paint called Moonstone. The warm gray/bronze laminated cabinets are the Talia Horizontal style in a finish named Wired Bronze. Many times the countertops selected can easily become overpowered by everything else in a complete look. These Cambria Quartz tops in the Seagrove design wrap just about every available remaining surface and command your attention!
Cambria_waterfall_edge

This installation technique is called a “Waterfall” edge. Cambria seems to spring up from the floor, wrap the cabinets and desk surfaces and cascade back down again seamlessly. The front face of the desk includes a recessed area of paneling that repeats the Wired Bronze finish from the back wall of cabinetry.
front

All of this sits atop a new floor from our Marazzi line. This is a wood-look porcelain tile that will be a durable and stylish choice to hold up to the high-traffic area of the showroom. This 6″ x 36″ tile is from the American Estates series in the Natural color. If you want the look of wood but a durable and easy to clean surface, ask one of our flooring experts at Village about a wood-look tile.

Davenport, IA- Warm Cherry Cabinets and Large Black Painted Island

This Davenport, IA kitchen has been completely remodeled to extend its footprint into a nearby dining room. There is now plenty of space for a long L-shaped layout with a large island. Warm Cherry cabinetry from our DuraSupreme line has been installed in the full-overlay  “Kendall” doorstyle and “Clove” finish. A “Black” painted island in the same raised-panel doorstyle offers a bold contrast to the kitchen cabinets and new LVT White Oak flooring.

With the removal of a wall that divided the original kitchen from the dining room taken out, there is now plenty of space for a large kitchen island. The new island measures over 8 feet in length and includes large drawer storage and doors that open to reveal slide-out shelves within. Press play below to watch this entire remodel story unfold on Season 2 Episode 6 of the Village Home Show.

This episode of our show helps to walk you through the entire remodel process from start to finish with us. We often share just the before and after parts of a remodel story… but that is not the whole story at all! This episode allows us to return to the jobsite while the real work is happening. With our show, we are able to give you access to more of the entire story that went behind the beautiful finished kitchen tours we share here on the blog. Take a look at the before and after images from this kitchen below highlighting how much more cabinet space is now available with the center wall removed.Davenport kitchen before and after remodel. | VillageHomeStores.com

Because it can now stretch into the original dining room area, this new kitchen design is nearly double what it once was. There is even an area remaining for a casual dining space with 4 chairs. Just because we have absorbed the original dining room as part of the new kitchen, doesn’t mean this home is left without one. An adjacent front room has now been claimed as the new formal dining room area. The before and after image below shows the view into the new kitchen from this new front room dining area. Dining room becomes part of kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

The window that now sits above the sink was far to low in the original dining room to accommodate a kitchen beneath it. A new window was installed at a taller height and now instead of looking up to a pass-through, the sink user gets a beautiful view! The cabinetry surrounding the new kitchen window has been finished with raised-panel ends for an added design detail. Can lighting is concealed behind a matching cherry valance and a cherry dustcover on the ceiling completes this look.
Kitchen remodel from Village Home Stores featuring Fairborne Cambria Quartz tops and travertine tile. | VillageHomeStores.com

Beautiful Cambria® Quartz counters in the “Fairborne” design are installed in a standard “Eased” edge profile. A Tumbled Travertine tiled backsplash is a perfect match in tone adding a new texture against the smooth, polished quartz tops. A 50/50 well sink by Blanco in the “Biscotti” finish has been undermounted to the quartz.

The remodel process with Village Home Stores doesn’t begin on that first demo day. Your remodel starts with us in the store during the designing and material selection phases of your project. A wood hood look like the one shown above begins as a full-color rendered design you can see in your first presentation from our store. Renderings help you get a better vision for the finished space including the materials you have selected.
Kitchen Design Centers servicing Davenport, IA | VillageHomeStores.com

As you will see in the episode, there are plenty of specialty cabinets within this kitchen design. Dura Supreme offers a wide variety of pull-out options including knife blocks, spice racks, and this towel bar cabinet. Keep cleaning supplies accessible but separate from food with one of these unique specialty cabinets. This towel cabinet also works great in a bathroom or laundry room design.
pullout-towel-cabinet

Surrounding the refrigerator is a tall pantry cabinet that has been fit with adjustable slide-out shelving. There is a built-in pantry storage area on the end of the kitchen that is not shown in these images. That pantry can now be used for household items and food storage can be exclusively in this tall unit adjacent to the refrigerator.
Pantry with slideout shelves in DuraSupreme kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

The tall pantry is capped off with an open shelf cabinet that faces those entering from the garage-entry end of the kitchen. Applied doors have been attached to the end of this cabinet to sit flush with the pantry doors and customize the look. The shelves can be used to display seasonal decor, cookbooks, or decorative dishes. This design also works well on the end of an island as we have shown in this Moline kitchen tour.

Colona, IL- Lakeside Home Gets a Refreshing New Remodel

Not every before and after remodel story involves removing walls to get a new layout. This lakeside home in Colona, IL is the perfect example of what we mean. To get the new kitchen design to “open up” here, we actually closed off one of the walls. Take a look at the before and after below to see the doorway that was closed off in order to create a full U-shaped layout for the new kitchen:
kitchen before and after in Colona, IL. Remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

What a transformation! Now this wall has become the main focal point of the new design with this hood surround at the center of all attention. Koch Classic Cabinetry in the “Legacy” doorstyle and “Pearl” painted finish with “Umber” Highlight have been paired with Cambria® Quartz counters and a stylish new Stainless Steel appliance package from KitchenAid®. There is so much great storage and style in this kitchen that we HAD to include it in an episode of the Village Home Show just to have the opportunity to show you around in detail. The original kitchen was in desperate need of more drawers for storage. This new layout includes many drawers in the kitchen perimeter as well as the new kitchen island. Press play below to see for yourself.

When you choose to work with Village Home Stores you can expect to get the best experience available from our expert staff. This includes how you are able to visualize your project during the designing and material selection stages. Below are the design renderings that were presented to this customer in those first few meetings: rendering

Helping you visualize the full concept of your design is a responsibility we take very seriously. It is why you can’t just walk into our store and leave an hour later with a professional design. We are a Kitchen and Bath Design Center. When you set an appointment with us we want you to be so thrilled with your experience from that very first presentation all the way until the final walk-through. Our process may take longer than other stores but we believe that every project deserves the same care and attention no matter what the size. Building a home or remodeling, neither is a process that should be rushed. The hood concept for this kitchen is not ordinary by any circumstances. The look was achieved by building an arched surround for the Cherry wood hood and then tiling the surface with four different 6″ x 24″ Ecowood tiles. The end result is breathtaking and unique!

Unique kitchen range hood surround. | VillageHomeStores.com

Concealed within the Cherry wood hood is a Broan hood blower insert. Not to be ignored right below this new hood area is a KitchenAid® slide-in gas range packed full of style and features! This gas range boasts 5 gas burners on the cooktop ranging from 5,000 to 19,000 BTU’s. Get flawless baking results with convection features in the oven and take advantage of added features like a wireless probe and a steam rack within the oven. Would you believe us if we told you this model is also technically a DOUBLE oven?! That drawer below is not just for storing bakeware or warming dishes!
KitchenAid range with convection oven and baking drawer. | VillageHomeStores.com

KitchenAid® has taken the concept of a warming drawer to a whole new level. Introducing the innovative new baking drawer. This separate compartment allows you to keep warm, slow cook or bake at a different temperature from the main oven and keep dishes warm. This range sits atop a wood-look luxury vinyl tile from our Mannington® Adura Plank line. The “Ashford Walnut” color might fool you in these photographs but trust us, even in person you will not believe this isn’t hardwood. Adura Plank Luxury Vinyl Tiles (also known as LVT’s) are durable, scratch-resistant, waterproof, and easy to clean.  The sink wall of the new design has changed dramatically once the doorway to the nearby Living Room was closed off.
Kitchen before and after with new copper farmhouse style sink. | VillageHomeStores.com

The refrigerator was moved to the opposite end of this sink wall and an undermount copper farmhouse sink is the new eye-catching detail of this section of the new design. An arched valance in the toespace of the sink base cabinet is an added design detail that helps set the look off. This copper sink will begin to age with a beautiful patina and become a character piece in the new kitchen.
Copper undermount farmhouse style sink. | VillageHomeStores.com

This copper farmsink has been under-mounted to new Engineered Quartz countertops from our Cambria® Quartz line. The quartz design selected for this project is named “Langdon” and the 1/2″ rounded edge profile has been applied to the tops. The veining and charactor of a slab of natural granite, but all of the benefits of maintenance-free quartz. Cambria® is the perfect material for this project. The large island top is the best showcase of the pattern and colors:
cambria_langdon

The new kitchen island is a large surface for preparation, and entertaining. The cooktop used to dominate the old island counter surface but now the island is versatile and stylish. outlets on each end of the island are camouflaged in color to allow access to power when needed but not steal from the finished look of the applied door paneled ends. The doorway into the new kitchen was widened to open up the space. A peninsula was installed at the entrance to provide more storage and counter surface as well as an overhang to accommodate seated guests.
Before and After images of a remodeled kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

This new widened entrance with a peninsula has changed the overall layout and function for the kitchen. Above the peninsula overhand hand two decorative pendant lights by Kichler. This couple chose to install the “outdoor” pendant style of this light because they included this beautiful seeded glass. We think the lights are perfect!
Kichler pendant lighting with seeded glass above a kitchen peninsula. | VillageHomeStores.com

Shown behind the lighting in the image above are two X-shaped wine cubbies. Plenty of wine storage is easily accessible from either side of the peninsula when entertaining. When guests enter the new kitchen design they get the illusion that instead of a peninsula and an island, this kitchen has two islands. This look is achieved by having the complete island in a Cherry “Mocha” stain plus the back and end of the kitchen peninsula has been installed in that same “Mocha” finish.
Kitchen with Peninsula and island. | VillageHomeStores.com

The Cherry “Mocha” stain from the island and peninsula is repeated in the wood hood area. Two-tone look kitchen designs have come a long way in the past few years. You are not just limited to contrasting crown or an island. Ask you designer what creative ways you could include a second finish in your own design.

The cooking center of this new kitchen is stylish and extremely functional. Not only are there incredible features on this new KitchenAid® gas range, the storage and surfaces surrounding it grant the user the best experience possible. Everything is right within reach including a tray divider cabinet and pullout spice rack. There is available countertop surface on each side of the hood surround and access to that incredible new Island top directly behind the user.

A standard “Eased” edge is used with no quartz backsplash installed. The sink wall of cabinetry includes a large single bowl undermount sink from Elkay. Elkay’s “Dusk Gray” finish mimics the accent glaze of the cabinets as well as the laundry pair and “Graphite” painted cabinets across the room. While a stainless steel or warm brushed nickel finish would look right at home in this space, polished chrome is a bright and stylish choice. The countertops and textured glass tiles are illuminated by our Diode LED lighting system. We love the little reminder system this homeowner has started using with her Diode lighting. If there is laundry running that will need to be changed over to the dryer, all the lights are turned off but the undercabinet lighting remains on. Since these lights are low-voltage, this system is a cost-effective way to remind her as she walks down the hall that there is laundry to check back on. trashThe sink wall of cabinetry that faces a window is fit with great storage solutions. A pull-out double bin waste basket on one end, and sliding shelves on the other. Also concealed within the top drawer of one of these cabinets is an innovative way to store and access your ironing board. Press play below to see this cabinet reveal and unfold to access this fold-away ironing board feature.

laundryIG4Stylish and interesting, the Adorne series of switches and outlets has been placed throughout this new Laundry Room. This unique system is available from our legrand line and has customization options that are almost limitless. Read more about the Adorne series here in a past blog post about the Master Bathroom in this very same home. The finish shown in this space is the “Satin Nickel” wall plate. The perfect choice against the American Olean textured glass tiles. These “Elegant Crystal” tiles in the “Sand” finish measure 4″ x 12″ long and add texture and dimension to the space.

American Olean Elegant Crystal textured glass tile. | VillageHomeStores.comThat same tile is installed on the folding wall of the design. Taking a suggestion from the elongated wall tile shape is a 12″ x 24″ sized tile from our Florstar line on the floors. This series is names “Matrix” and the color is “Azul”. This versatile wall of cabinetry now includes hanging storage, cabinet storage, and a floating drawer area in the center for folding and sorting laundry. Below this counter is space for three rolling laundry carts that can be easily moved from here to the laundry units across the room. folding_counter

Bettendorf, IA- Once Upon a Time… Beige Met Gray…

A Classic tale of Gray meets Beige… Ok fine this might not seem like a classic tale but trust us, warm gray tones are everywhere in the home finishes industries. Say goodbye to Beige everywhere and say hello to the new neutral: Gray. Not always bland and cold as stone, Gray tones can be warm and inviting. Someplace between Gray and Beige is… “Greige“! This Bettendorf, IA kitchen showcases the perfect palette for this neutral color concept.
Kitchen remodeled in Bettendorf, IA | VillageHomeStores.com

The original kitchen in this home was a medium stained Oak cabinet with neutral toned countertops. Once ready for an update and a brighter look, this Bettendorf home is now a magazine-cover worthy space. Take a look at the transformation.
before

Painted white cabinetry from our Koch Classic line has been given a “Smoke” highlight accent and a wood hood and kitchen island is painted in the “Fog” finish. The “Legacy” doorstyle is a fantastic choice that provides many edges and details that the “Smoke” highlight can catch up on. A decorative wood hood in the accent color is fit with a Broan hood insert within it.
Gray and white kitchen remodel in Bettendorf, IA | VillageHomeStores.com

That same “Fog” painted finish from the hood is found on the kitchen island that includes an overhang and seating for two at counter-height. While you may think next to the kitchen sink is the best location for your pull-out waste basket cabinet, an island can be a better choice. Include this cabinet within reach of the sink user but easy to access for guests when entertaining. A waste basket cabinet in the island can be easy to find and keep the sink area from getting too crowded.

We have to admit that sometimes one element of a complete design stands out as the “MVP”. In this kitchen it is absolutely the tile backsplash! This geometric mosaic tile by Glazzio is from the “Excalibur Series” in the “Winter Fjord” color. It perfectly blends both cabinet finishes, the countertop selection, and the flooring together. Our Diode L.E.D. undercabinet lighting system showcases this tile perfectly and the look is amazing day or night.

Whirlpool front control range. | VillageHomeStores.comBelow the painted hood and that amazing tile backsplash sits Whirlpool’s front-control gas range with True Convection features in Stainless Steel. One of our favorite features on this model aside from the convection is the Frozen Bake™ option. Select this feature to cook frozen foods faster by eliminating the need to preheat the oven. Just select the food type, temperature, and cook time listed on the frozen item’s package and the oven will start customizing. Now you can cook frozen pizza 31% faster, and even lasagna, chicken nuggets, fries and pies can get from the oven to the table in less time. No more preheating before your get started. The preheat process is included in the bake time. Tall storage cabinetry in kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.comYou will find plenty of pantry storage on the refrigerator wall of the new kitchen design. Two tall pantry cabinets surround the refrigerator area and varied depths have been used to utilize the space as much as possible. Notice the change in depths in this profile view below of the pantry wall:sliding shelves in pantry. | VillageHomeStores.com

Plenty of pantry storage plus two slide-out bins in the end base cabinet. Also note the exposed ends of the cabinetry in this kitchen. In place of a smooth, painted finished end matching cabinet doors have been applied for a gorgeous finished look. Including “Applied Door Ends” is an exceptionally nice detail in a kitchen with a mitered and glazed doorstyle like this.  Not to go un-noticed is a gorgeous farmhouse sink in this kitchen. A design selection that is a statement all in itself, this Whitehaus smooth-front apron sink is an instantly classic look. Farm sink in Bettendorf, IA kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

The farm sink has been undermounted to Cambria’s “Torquay” quartz counters in the standard “Eased” edge profile. This Cambria design adds a perfectly polished and upscale look without overpowering the backsplash tile with too much pattern. This entire design is about balance. Balancing accent colors, pattern, texture, even hardware sizes. Having a designer with you during every decision for your project helps you get the end result you have been dreaming of. Vinyl flooring Bettendorf, IA. | VillageHomeStores.com

All of these selections sit on top of a luxury vinyl tile by Armstrong. This 12″ x 24″ LVT is from the “Alterna” series in the “Silver Shimmer” color. Erie, IL- Kitchen Remodel Updated and Upgraded

This Erie, IL kitchen has been updated and upgraded. A similar footprint to the original kitchen, but using beautiful new materials and upgraded features throughout. Oak cabinetry and laminate tops have been removed and a new Cherry kitchen from our Koch Classic line has been installed. The Cherry “Prairie” doorstyle in a medium “Briarwood” finish compliments the existing Oak trim and doors in the space. The Cherry selection is an updated look and the rich wood grain of the wood is a major upgrade from the Oak.

All of the kitchen appliances remain in roughly the same locations. The original kitchen single-height peninsula has been replaced with a dual-height design and the kitchen sink has been shifted from the center of the peninsula to the corner. With the new layout, the largest transformation happened on the wall opposite the original kitchen L-shape layout:
Kitchen before and after photo. | VillageHomeStores.com

So much of that original wall was getting no storage use. The new design now includes that whole wall into the kitchen. That tall pantry cabinet space is now fit with two 12″ deep tall pantries, each 24″ wide with a single door. Installed side by side, this gives the finished look of a 48″ wide cabinet and leave a large part of that wall available for more cabinetry. Because of a casual dining area on that end of the kitchen, the new base cabinets transition back at an angle to meet the shallow pantries. This new design now provides a large countertop that cab be used to load and unload the pantry or refrigerator or set up as a coffee station or work surface. At this location, the space is very versatile.

A 12″ deep pantry can store quite a bit within, especially when it is four feet wide! Other specialty upgrades include the addition of a pull-out cutting board concealed above the top drawer of a base cabinet. A great feature in just the right location. When selecting specialty items like tray dividers, cutting boards, or spice cabinets, be sure they are located in the area you plan to reach for them.

On each side of the new Whirlpool range are base cabinets fit with sliding shelves. These cabinets are perfect for keeping pots and pans sorted. By keeping this look symmetrical on each side of the range, a comfortable landing space of counter is available for the user on both sides.

Moving the kitchen sink to the corner frees up the entire peninsula for a worksurface. A corner sink also adds interest to the layout. Our Diode LED undercabinet lighting system spotlights a beautiful new tiled backsplash along both walls of cabinetry. The main field tile is a 3 x 6″ polished Travertine. The decoline of accent tile is from our Glazzio line and is named “Tranquil”.
Cambria Quartz in Hampshire design. | VillageHomeStores.com

Cambria Hampshire. | VillageHomeStores.comThe short area of backsplash on the peninsula has been given a different treatment from the tiled walls. This jump from counter height to bar height (shown in profile on right) is only a few inches. Instead of creating a bright contrast of travertine tiles, a splash has been installed of the same Cambria Quartz material from the countertop. The “Hampshire” Cambria Quartz has been given the “Full Bullnose” edge profile.

The peninsula side facing toward the Great Room has been fit with a wainscot panel and trim for a customized look. A four-panel wainscot design and furniture base completes the look. On the end of the peninsula that meets the wall, a full-height door cabinet opens into the Great Room. This becomes a great place to store items that might normally pile up on end tables or countertops. The cabinet helps finish off the peninsula and provide a space to hide these items out of sight. Speaking of hiding things out of sight, notice with the dual-height peninsula design that you can’t see into the kitchen sink?

Custom wainscot panel. | VillageHomeStores.com

crown molding on cabinetNow that the soffits have been removed, there is room for the new cabinetry to reach higher and still have space for a more appropriate crown molding to be applied. Crown molding may not seem like a significant detail but it is this final “trimming out” phase that helps complete any finished kitchen. Including crown and undercabinet molding help polish off the look. On the back of the peninsula area a furniture baseboard molding was applied where the panel meets the new flooring. A polished and customized look. Don’t miss out on the opportunities in your own design to help your space look carefully planned out and customized specially for your home.

The new flooring in the kitchen is from our Tarkett line. It is a Luxury Vinyl Tile, or “LVT” floor and looks perfect in this new kitchen. LVT can be installed grouted with a special form of grout or groutless (shown in this home). Read more about LVT and how it is installed here on a past blog post. A rolled edge treatment on these tiles help this groutless look to be forgiving of subfloor imperfections and best of all, no grout to clean!

Prophetstown, IL- Master Suite Remodel

Join us as we tour this beautifully remodeled Master Suite in Prophetstown, IL. Rustic materials with a refined look, it looks amazing! A set of French doors with textured glass open up to reveal a new space including a custom tiled shower, large soaking tub, a private watercloset area, and a stunning vanity area.
entrance

This Master Suite in the countryside is a rural retreat with earth tones and flowing organic lines in the mirrors and lighting selections. Neutral colors were selected as a backdrop to help showcase details like rustic knotty wood cabinets and some of the most interesting vanity sinks we have ever installed!
vanity with two unique vessel sinks. | VillageHomeStores.com

Two vessel sink areas are divided by a wall cabinet that meets the countertop in the center. A stack of drawers in brought out deeper to create a divided look and add interest to the shape of the vanity top. Koch Cabinetry in the “Vicksburg” doorstyle has been installed in a Rustic Beech wood species. This rustic wood is dressed up in a “Mocha” stain.

We love how the bright polished chrome hardware stands out on this rich “Mocha” finish. Speaking of standing out, how fun are the vessel sinks and faucets!?! These unique faucets seem to “sprout” out from the countertops. When turned on, the smooth glass design waterfalls down into the matching vessel sink. What a great look!
Unique vessel sink. | VillageHomeStores.com

These unique sinks rest on a beautiful piece of maintenance-free quartz. Quartz is a fantastic material to use in a bathroom because it is durable and non-porous. This means that spilling any products onto the top will not cause damage to it. There is no risk of scratching or scorching the tops either. Cambria Quartz in the “Fairbourne” design is a great subtle choice as a base to showcase these unique sinks. The look is beautiful and this customer selected a great edge profile to showcase the unique custom shape of their vanity design as well. The “Waterfall” edge from Cambria catches the light and adds a great detail to the look.

Other details include the addition of furniture style feet in the toespace of the sink cabinets. This helps give a more convincing furniture-style look and adds a formal feel to the rustic materials. Adding feet may seem like a small detail, but it is these small details that work together to give a truly customized end result.

In this Master Bathroom the shower has been separated from the tub area. Visible right upon entry into the Master Bath, this shower is eye-catching but not to be upstaged by the beautiful tiled tub area in front of it.
Tiled walk in shower and tub in remodeled master bathroom. | VillageHomeStores.com

There is plenty of space for a large “drop-in” soaking tub. A tiled deck surrounds it and the accent tile from the shower is carried over into the front apron area of the tub plus the back of a custom tiled niche.
tub

Consider ever bit of space as a chance to love your finished design. This wall niche is in the perfect location for soaps and toiletries to be stowed away. The niche also gave a great opportunity to repeat the accent mosaic tile.
Tiled wall shelf in bathroom. | VillageHomeStores.com

Speaking of customizing every corner of your design, why not add a bench in your shower. This tiled corner bench area might not seem like a large feature but it can be a place to rest a leg when shaving, or even set down toiletries within reach. benchSo many of the bathrooms we remodel now include a custom tiled shower instead of a standard unit. Custom showers like this allow us to add the shower to whatever unique location you may have. Many times this means you may end up with a larger and more open shower look. Tiled showers commonly receive a custom glass entry of some sort. In this case, a short threshold of tile was installed and an glass door hinges out into the Bathroom.
tiled shower entrance. | VillageHomeStores.com

To help let in as much natural light as possible, a fixed pane of glass is installed from the kneewall behind the tub to meet the top of the custom door. The finished look is great and the end result is a more open and bright shower space.
glass_detail

There is plenty of storage in this new Master Bath. Whatever will not fit in the vanity area can certainly find a home in this built-in linen cabinet. A tall cabinet front was ordered to match the vanity area and now this corner of the bath has a customized look.
linen cabinet up to angled ceiling. | VillageHomeStores.com

In the opposite corner of the bath from the linen cabinet is the stool. A private “water closet” space can be a wonderful layout choice when planning a large bathroom like this. The light oak trim and doors are a great contrast to the dark Rustic Beech wood of the cabinetry.
watercloset

This same light wood finish is found on the set of French Doors that lead out from the Bath into the Master Bedroom. In place of a clear glass or even mullioned wood and glass doors, textured inserts were selected. We love the way this allows light in and out of the Bathroom while also giving privacy with the heavy texture. Village Home Stores has a wide selection of doors and millwork that we can provide during a project like this.
