Quad Cities, IL- A Lower Level Library Full of Details

Village Home Stores doesn’t just design beautiful kitchen and bathroom spaces for your home. Think of ALL of the areas that we can help to make beautiful and customized to your own personal tastes and styles. Take this home study/library for example:
Custom Cherry inset cabinetry by DuraSupreme in a Quad Cities Area home Library. Design and material by Village Home Stores. |

This beautiful customized space is hidden behind a sliding barn door adjacent to our last featured project. Nothing says sophisticated and studious for a space quite like a rich, cherry woodgrain and custom details. The DuraSupreme cabinetry consists mainly of paneling, trim and shelving but the base cabinets behind the desk are an inset style.
Custom Cherry inset cabinetry by DuraSupreme in a Quad Cities Area home Library. Chapel Hill door and Chestnut stain. Design and material by Village Home Stores. |

The Chapel Hill door in a Cherry wood stained a “Chestnut” finish, details like a furniture base and added feet to the toespace create interest. The term inset means that the doors sit inside of the cabinet frame instead of overlaying and resting outside of it. This inset style is considered “beaded” inset because of the routed detail around the cabinet frame which houses the doors and drawer fronts.
Seagrove Cambria Quartz and schoohouse decor in a Quad Cities Area home Library. Design and material by Village Home Stores. |

A Cambria Quartz counter in the “Seagrove” design caps off the back of the desk area. We love the added detail of selecting the Seagrove design that adds the natural-stone look with a veined pattern. A vintage chalkboard adds an upscale schoolhouse style to the space. A touch of old, surrounded by new. The secondary wall of shelving not shown is home to many books and personal items for display (respectfully omitted from this public post). A home library should provide practical storage but also plenty of display space for the user. Two glass-door wall cabinets flank the chalkboard area for more dust-free display space.
Chalkboard in home office. #schoolhouse #decor Design and materials by Village Home Stores. |

Of course baseboards and crown molding can take any project to a more polished and complete look. This library takes it one step further by adding details like decorative wood feet, fluted columns, and carved wooden corbels at the corners (shown below at left). Any added layer allows the light one more edge or curve to catch and highlight the space. Many times customers are concerned so much wood will make a room seem very dark. Layering depths and textures like this helps to keep the look dimensional and highlighted instead of a solid, flat panel of dark wood. Seagrove Cambria Quartz, cherry inset cabinetry and schoohouse decor in a Quad Cities Area home Library. Design and material by Village Home Stores. |

Any completed study space needs wood paneled walls to get the look right. This space includes custom wainscot paneling installed at a chair rail height with a baseboard below. The paint color for the room mimics the chalkboard color and a wingback chair with nailheads completes the look. The only thing missing from the perfect home study space is a roaring fireplace, which because of the rooms location, wasn’t an option. The space still inspires!
Custom Cherry trim and paneling by DuraSupreme in a Quad Cities Area home Library. Design and material by Village Home Stores. |

Our unique series of adorne lightswitches and outlets give a modern update to an otherwise distracting break in the custom wall paneling. Imagine if bright white plastic outlets were cut into these custom wainscot panels. Wouldn’t that distract from the look? Instead, sleek metallic-look plates frame square outlets.

The same polished “Silver Springs” 12″ x 36″ River Marble floors continue from the kitchenette into the library area. Polished marble and floor-to-ceiling custom cherry shelving give this library a look like no other. This space would look right at home in a well-kept historic estate but we love knowing it is getting great use for this family in the Midwest countryside.

Quad Cities Remodel- The Lower Level Kitchenette of Your Dreams

Perhaps “Kitchenette” isn’t the right term for this feature. It seems so backwards to add “-ette” to a word and somehow make it sound small and adorable… when in fact this is a fully functioning kitchen. If you had a busy Lower Level including a large game room and walkout access to a pool wouldn’t you dream of a kitchen space like this for entertaining? DuraSupreme Cabinetry and Cambria Quartz counters featured in this Quad Cities area kitchen remodel from Village Home Stores. |

With home library hidden behind a sliding barn door (more on that in a future post), this kitchen includes a full wall of cabinetry and appliances and a large single-level island. Cabinetry from our DuraSupreme line has been installed in two finishes of the same “Chapel Hill” doorstyle. Take a closer look at the doors and drawers to see that this is an inset cabinet design.  DuraSupreme Cabinetry in inset cherry wood and Chestnut stain featured in this Quad Cities area kitchen remodel from Village Home Stores. |

This means that the cabinet doors and drawerfronts have been “inset” into the cabinet faceframe instead of hinged to set in front of the frame. The island is a Cherry wood in the rich, warm Chestnut stain. The kitchen wall of cabinetry is a painted Maple wood in the “Graphite” color. A barn door with glass inserts rolls away to reveal a home office next to this Quad Cities area kitchen remodel from Village Home Stores. |

The cabinets reach all the way to the ceiling with the help of a stacked crown molding application. Glass inserts and open shelves help to keep the back wall feeling open and interesting. A tall oven cabinet is home to a KitchenAid wall oven and microwave. The wall oven includes convection features for a faster preheat and a more consistent interior temperature. An induction cooktop is centered in the island countertop.DuraSupreme Cabinetry and KitchenAid appliances featured in this Quad Cities area kitchen remodel from Village Home Stores. |

The sink wall also includes a bottom freezer refrigerator also from KitchenAid and a farmsink by Kohler. A rich glossy 12″ x 36″ marble tile floor in the “River Marble” color looks stunning at all times of day. Cambria Quartz counters in the Ella design have been installed for a classic touch. Ella offers the look of a marble counter with all of the no-maintenance and durability benefits of a Quartz counter.

The sink base has been pulled forward and furniture style legs have been added for a great finished look. This sink from Kohler is a large, single-well style with an offset drain. A narrow sill piece of Cambria has been installed on the window ledge to offer a durable and stylish shelf area for plants or display. Glossy “Arctic White” 3″ x 6″ Subway Tile has been installed as a backsplash and behind the floating shelf areas of the main kitchen wall.

The back treatment of the island gives a customized wainscot look but also includes an angled panel area that accents the support bracket and wood apron for the countertop overhang. Our unique series of switches and outlets named Adorne adds interest and an updated look to the wall outlets. With a variety of options and many colors to choose from, there is no reason why you wall outlets ad switches can’t be just as stylish as your tile selections!

We look forward to sharing future features on the home library/office (behind this barn door) and a stunning bathroom down the hall.

Geneseo, IL- Historic Home Remodeled and Updated With Nods to History.

When you remodel a home you are writing a part of its history. Every renovation, small or large, becomes an entry into the timeline of that property. Many times our client’s personal style choices drive the selections and design decisions entirely. In a historic home the home itself also influences decisions. When our expert kitchen remodeling team takes on a project in a Historical property, we are so honored to become a part of that history.Historic home deserve expert design and craftsmanship. Kitchen remodel by Village Home Stores. |

This historic home in Geneseo, IL has seen many changes to the property over time including kitchen renovations. The most recent remodel we just completed at the home allowed the owners to update the layout, function, and working elements of the kitchen without losing the historic character that the space deserves. Allow us to show you around this beautiful new space…Kitchen remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores in a Historic Geneseo, IL home. Painted white cabinets, marble look quartz, and brick tiled flooring. |

True of many older homes, there are doorways and unique wall spaces to consider when laying out the new design. The completed new layout now includes a back wall with the cooking center, refrigerator wall with pantry area, single-level island with sink, and a new hutch area. The contrast from before to after below showcases that a shift in material selection alone can make any space seem brighter and larger.

Before and after from a Historic homes remodel. Kitchen remodel by Village Home Stores. |

The new kitchen seems much larger than the original but no walls were removed. In fact we ADDED many cabinets to this kitchen. Including a new lighting plan and selecting brighter finishes help to make the space seem spacious and timeless. As you can see in the image below, the cabinetry now also extends all the way to the ceiling for a more customized and built-in look.
Appliances by Village Home Stores. |

A flat-panel white kitchen cabinet remains the most classic of choices for all tastes and styles. Here in a historic property it looks right at home. This kitchen includes cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the Prairie Door and Shaker edge profile. The main kitchen cabinets are in the painted “White” finish by Koch. Because of other molding details in the home, a traditional crown molding profile was used where the cabinets meet the ceiling.

Project Management kitchen remodel from start to finish by Village Home Stores. |

A custom wood hood is installed above the range and the addition of a mantle area/shelf allows for decor to be added.Just beyond the main cooking center wall is an area of the kitchen that has been transformed completely. So long alcove with open shelves…. and hello gorgeous new built-in hutch! This little corner of the kitchen may be our favorite part of the new design. A combination of glass doors and open shelves, all illuminated by our Diode LED lighting system.
Before and after from a Historic homes remodel. New hutch area installed as part of kitchen remodel by Village Home Stores. |

This Diode system has been installed throughout the kitchen as undercabinet lighting. The same low-profile, low-voltage lighting is also installed in the glass-door and open shelf cabinets! We realize we sound like a broken record in every feature when we talk about this lighting but trust us it is a key player in why projects like these look so great! Including this lighting is such an important part of showcasing the investments you have made into your home.
Diode LED undercabinet lighting in a hutch area of remodeled kitchen. |

Once installed, the lighting becomes the perfect task or ambient light. It uses very little energy and the look is great day or night. For instance, these images were taken during the day and the lighting STILL makes a big difference even with daylight coming in the windows. Another design detail that gives a historic look are the “clerestory” glass cabinet doors. The cabinets surrounding the hood have the top section cut for glass and become a great space for display without distracting from the hood itself.
Painted white cabinets with a wood hood design. Kitchen remodeled in historic Geneseo home by Village Home Stores. |

Of course classic white subway tile is always a great material for any historic home. Another nod to the history of the home is the use of moldings and decorative detail. This kitchen is a very bright and clean look. The look can be achieved and still include details like supports or corbels. Not all of these details are heavy carved or scrolled wooden elements. In this case, a subtle style of mantle bracket was selected that complements the cabinet doorstyle.
Wood hood mantle corbel detail in painted white finish. Kitchen remodel by Village Home Stores. |
A large single-level island is in the center of the kitchen and is now home to the kitchen sink and dishwasher. There is a curved overhang area for seating on the back side. Modern upgrades and updates should always be considered when remodeling. Ask yourself what suits your lifestyle and could make your enjoyment of the space even better? An upgrade as simple as this garbage disposal button may be something your become thankful for daily.
White painted kitchen with gray stained island. Historic home remodeled by Village Home Stores in Geneseo, IL. |

The low-profile of the button helps to keep it from being noticed unless you are really a user at the sink. The apron farmsink has found its way to be included in many styles of kitchen spaces within the past few years. Where it began it’s demand and influence is from projects just like this one. An old-world look inspired by large cast-iron farmsinks. We love the look of this Kohler Whitehaven sink.
Gray stained kitchen island on brick tiled floor. Love the look of two medium pendants above this island. |

The Vicksburg Door with Shaker edge is installed in a Rustic Hickory wood and “Driftwood” finish. This soft gray stain looks great and allows the Hickory grain to be highlighted. The lighting above the kitchen island also helps to keep the kitchen feeling open and bright. Two pendants hang above the island in a polished nickel finish.
Kichler pendant lighting in remodeled kitchen. |

These Kichler lights are perfect. The finish of the lights allow light to bounce off of them and the open frame style of the lights allow your eye to look right through them. Polished chrome and nickel finishes blend very well with Stainless elements. Using a brushed light fixture may have suggested a more modern style for the space. Stainless Steel appliances in a white painted kitchen. Sharp microwave drawer and KitchenAid pro gas range. |

Of course many upgrades were brought in by replacing the appliances with a brand new KitchenAid suite with Sharp microwave drawer. The 36″ wide dual-fuel commercial style range is stunning in appearance and top-notch in features. KitchenAid does a fantastic job of bringing professional-level features and benefits to you at a fraction of the price of other 36″ wide range options. Dual fuel gives you the precise control of a as cooktop with the consistent temperature control of an electric oven below.  Stainless Steel appliances in a white painted kitchen. Sharp microwave drawer. |

Microwave drawers can really be the unsung heroes in spaces like this. Could you imagine this same wall of cabinetry with a microwave hood? Even a countertop microwave would distract from the finished look. Microwave drawers give a clean look and a functional upgrade. This 24″ wide flat-panel model blends really well with any Stainless Appliance suite. We managed this remodel from start to finish. Walking our clients through every step of our process to keep everything on track for time and budget. We hope to get so show you more of that full process in an episode of our TV show very soon.start to finish

Brick tiled flooring installed in a remodeled historic kitchen. |

Don’t forget that we also carry floorcovering and tile at Village Home Stores! This kitchen includes a brick tile by Chicago Brick in the “Southside” color. This tile gives the look of an old brick floor but is durable and easy to clean. We have this same tile installed in our Geneseo showroom so do stop out to see it in person. Heartland Builders- A New Home With Contemporary Details

Village Home Stores has the great privilege to design so many incredible kitchens in a year. Lifestyle magazines, the internet, and apps like Pinterest and Houzz have revolutionized how our customers are able to narrow down their own personal styles. Because these platforms can showcase that every project can be different from the next, our own clients are beginning to embrace a very important revelation in 2017: you don’t have to do whatever your neighbor is doing. It is your home, make it reflect you! Even in the category of New Construction homes we still can say that every single home is different from the next. Take for example, this new Colona, IL home completed by Heartland Builders:
Contemporary style kitchen in a home by Heartland Builders including black painted Koch cabinets and quartz counters. |

We have shared countless white painted kitchens here on the blog but this space is a refreshing contrast. Black painted cabinetry from our Koch Classic line has been installed in the full-overlay “Savannah” door. An L-shaped layout is met in the corner with a pantry and a bat-wing shaped kitchen island angles in towards the kitchen. Seating for 4 surrounds the kitchen island.

The kitchen sink is in the very center of the island and a bar-height top blocks view into the sink from the Living Room area. Quartz tops in the “Fossil Grey” color are installed in a standard Eased edge profile. This new Maytag® french door refrigerator includes the easy-to-clean, Fingerprint Resistant Stainless Steel finish. The refrigerator caps the end of the kitchen area and in a small niche for the Great Room a bar area has been installed.
Bar area in kitchen including Danby glass-front beverage cooler. |

This space is stylish and convenient when entertaining. A glass-front beverage cooler from our Danby® line frees up space in the main refrigerator and allows hosts and guest easy access to beverages. Our Diode LED undercabinet lighting perfectly illuminates the American Olean “Appeal” glass mosaic backsplash.  This bar area has been tiled completely in the “Transcendent” mosaic. As mentioned before, the appliance package in this new home is by Maytag®.  Maytag is dependable and has the warranty to back that statement up! Each of the new Maytag® appliances in this space comes with a 10 year limited parts warranty on the main components of the unit. Stop by or call our expert appliance team at (309) 944-1344 to learn more about this warranty exclusive to Maytag®.

The appliances include the french door refrigerator, top-control dishwasher, microwave hood, and convection gas range. Each with their own 10 year limited parts warranty and in the Fingerprint Resistant Stainless finish. We love the look of the commercial-style hardware on the handles and knobs in this sleek space.

This kitchen has been installed within a great room that includes a living room area and dining space. The same Luxury Vinyl Tile has been installed throughout the foyer, great room, kitchen, pantry, dinette, hall, mud room, and laundry. This LVT is the “Meridain” series from our Adura click-together line in the “Steel” color. The perfect neutral sleek and stylish platform for this Contemporary styled space.

The lighting selections for this home are fantastic and each can stand alone as a very unique art piece! Four elongated LED pendants hang above the kitchen island. These pendants from our Kuzco line are in the Satin Nickel finish. Sometimes a big design impact can be made with a low-profile item. These long, narrow fixtures are a great example. They almost create columns to the island but are easy to see past and around in the open space.
Modern and Contemporary lighting by Village Home Stores in a Heartland Builders kitchen. |

A 4-light chandelier hangs in the dinette area. This light is named “Coddington” and is from our Feiss line. Talk about sculptural! We are reminded of the balance and shapes of an Alexander Calder mobile when seeing this light.
4 light Coddington chandelier by Feiss in a home by Heartland Builders. |

In the great room space a large 60″ ceiling fan is stunning! This fan is named “Proxima” and is from our Quorum line. The Satin Nickel finish is a perfect choice in this completed space. When turned on, it provides a lot of air flow and when the fan is turned off, it has an almost sculptural look.

That corner pantry may look large enough, but open the doors and you will find that this is just a pantry front. This cabinet walk-through pantry front leads to a large walk-in pantry area. There is plenty of style AND storage in this space. New homes like this tend to have an “Open Concept” to the spaces but you need to plan for including plenty of storage options concealed from that “open” area. This walk-in pantry if perfect for food storage but also can be great for  other bulk household items.

Hazelwood Homes- An Inset Instant Classic in Geneseo, IL

How can something so new already be an instant classic? Even though this Geneseo, IL home built recently by Hazelwood Homes is brand new, the look is classic. How do you achieve classic status right away? By selecting details and materials that all lend themselves to a polished, classic look without a date or trend attached to it. Take a look and see what we mean:
Kitchen in a home built by Hazelwood Homes including Dura Supreme inset cabinets and Cambria counters. |

Nothing about this finished space waves a flag with a year or a single trend on it. There is nothing more universally classic than a clean, white painted kitchen. With tastes and trends varying all across the country a white painted kitchen remains something we can all agree on. This Geneseo, IL family takes the look to the next level by selecting added details you will love.
White inset doors and subway tile for a classic modern farmhouse look. Expert design and material selection for your new home. |

Painted white cabinetry from our Dura Supreme line in the “Arcadia” door and inset construction is paired with a classic white 3″ x 6″ subway tile backsplash. The tile is from our Rittenhouse line and the “Arctic White” color is in a soft matte finish. The hardwood flooring in this great room space is gorgeous. Casa Bella’s “Baroque Oak” series in the “Marche” finish has such a depth of colors and the look is beautiful. Two countertop materials have been included in this kitchen design. The main perimeter of the kitchen has Cambria Quartz counters in the Torquay design. The polished quartz tops are a great contrast to the matte finish wall tiles. A Stainless Steel appliance suite from our KitchenAid® line looks right at home in the space. This 36″ KitchenAid® Dual Fuel 6-burner range is a hard-working investment for this kitchen.
Kitchen in a home built by Hazelwood Homes including KitchenAid appliances. |

With 5.1 cu. ft. total capacity and EasyConvect™ Conversion features, this range is commercial in style but easy to use. The immediate control of a gas cooktop and the consistent and efficient use of convection cooking. This range is enviable to any serious home chef but not intimidating to frozen pizza connoisseurs. Two pendants from the Feiss “Harrow” series hang above the large kitchen island. The Oil Rubbed Bronze finish is a great compliment to the dark granite top below and seeded glass gives a New Traditional look to a classic style.
Large kitchen island with brushed granite counters. |

The main focal point of this kitchen is the island itself. In a close second for your attention is the range and hood wall of cabinetry. A wood hood has been ordered from Dura Supreme to match the surrounding cabinetry. A beautiful mantle shelf has been applied for a classic detail and location for seasonal decor, leaning artwork, or left clear as shown.
Kitchen in a home built by Hazelwood Homes including Dura Supreme cabinets. |

A bold eye-catching contrast to the white kitchen is found in the large island counter. A “Black Pearl” granite top is large in size and includes an undermounted farm sink. This dark top is a bold statement but take note of another material selection detail in the granite’s finish… it isn’t polished! In place of a dark, high-gloss polished granite top the “brushed” finish has been selected. This allows the natural stone to give the look of a soapstone or slate style and texture. The installed look is softer and less formal in appearance. A slight arc has been included on the overhang of the island. This end is now ready to accommodate counter-height stools for seating in the new kitchen.
Kitchen in a home built by Hazelwood Homes including Dura Supreme inset cabinets and brushed finish granite. |

A detail that may go unnoticed at first glance is the style of cabinetry in this kitchen. The doors themselves are a very transitional flat-panel construction.  The detail we are speaking of is how they are not resting atop of the cabinet face frame. Instead these cabinets have been ordered in an “inset” construction. This look has been around as long as cabinet furniture-making has been. Many old homes include built-in cabinets with this same inset door concept. The next time you are near an antique piece of furniture there is a very high chance that you will find the doors are also inset. The cabinet and door all sits flush with the frame of the cabinet and this design choice takes a basic white kitchen and transforms it into an instant classic! Inset cabinetry can be ordered with a hidden hinge (like shown here) or an exposed barrel hinge. Click here to see a past kitchen feature on the blog that showcases the exposed hinge look on an inset door.

Did you know that according to a recent Houzz survey on 2017 trends in the industry we spend nearly 3 hours a day on average in our kitchens? Yes we are socializing and entertaining but we are also many times reading, working from home, or even just watching TV. In a kitchen this stunning it would be a shame to clutter up the countertops with a TV. That is why a space was designated for a small television right above the refrigerator. With this kitchen already including inset doors, adding pocket door hardware that allows the doors to roll into the cabinet box makes the screen visible from anywhere in the kitchen without a door to block the view.

Showroom Updates 2017: First Impressions

We are beyond thrilled to share our 2017 showroom updates with you here on the blog! Village Home Stores has a lot of great things planned as we move into 2017. This showroom update is a significant start! We have purchased a third storefront and added 1,200 sq. ft. of space for a brand new lighting showroom. We will show you are that complete lighting space and our remodel process later this week. Let’s begin today with a tour of our brand new front reception area:
New front desk area at Village Home Stores. |

As our business continues to grow, we have changed and adapted our customer experience so that every person that visits our store leaves feeling glad they came. Our entire showroom now is over 9,000 sq. ft. that’s a lot of product and space all in one location! You will now enter the center door off of State Street and be greeted and guided by Therese. That’s Therese in the photo above, look how happy she looks in her new desk area! She creates all of our beautiful full-color renderings for our Kitchen & Bath Design customers. She will now be the first smiling face you see whether you are shopping for a single lightbulb, a full appliances package, or an entire home of products. The back wall of this new reception area is easily one of our favorite new areas of our entire showroom. Layers of texture and a variety of materials make a big first impression.
DuChateau Wood panels in the Kaudra style and Brown Ask finish. |

Have you seen our new signage inside the store? It looks so amazing day and night! We gave the folks at ItsaSchmollworld our logo and they gave us this incredible metal sign! We installed it over a Dahltile Limestone named Martinique Arctic Gray. The logo is back-lit with our Diode LED lighting system.
New Village Home Stores sign made by itsaschmollworld lit with our low-voltage Diode LED lighting system. | VillageHomeStores.comOne of best benefits of using our Diode LED lighting to back-light this sign is the fact that it is low-voltage. That means we can leave this sign lit all day and all night and use very little energy for the bold statement it makes. See for yourself how amazing this back wall looks in the evening when you are passing the store. The pendant lighting flanking the logo is another  great element to the finished design.

These pendants are from our ELK Lighting line. The series is named Gramercy. We love the schoolhouse shape to the glass and the brushed finish pairs perfect with the metal logo sign on the same wall. The wood panels behind each pendant are a unique new product we have just launched, DuChateau wall coverings. These panels are from the Kaudra series in the Brown Ash finish. We are so excited to has access to this great new product! Consider these wall coverings for a fireplace wall or as an accent wall in a Master Bedroom. Below is a moodboard of the variety of finishes included in this new front desk:
Front reception desk finishes at Village Home Stores. |

Brushed Bronze handles from our Top Knobs line add a warm matte-finish gold look which is right on trend for our industry. Two finishes and styles of DuraSupreme Cabinetry have been included in this desk design. Gray Painted cabinets in the Middleton doorstyle and paint called Moonstone. The warm gray/bronze laminated cabinets are the Talia Horizontal style in a finish named Wired Bronze. Many times the countertops selected can easily become overpowered by everything else in a complete look. These Cambria Quartz tops in the Seagrove design wrap just about every available remaining surface and command your attention!

This installation technique is called a “Waterfall” edge. Cambria seems to spring up from the floor, wrap the cabinets and desk surfaces and cascade back down again seamlessly. The front face of the desk includes a recessed area of paneling that repeats the Wired Bronze finish from the back wall of cabinetry.

All of this sits atop a new floor from our Marazzi line. This is a wood-look porcelain tile that will be a durable and stylish choice to hold up to the high-traffic area of the showroom. This 6″ x 36″ tile is from the American Estates series in the Natural color. If you want the look of wood but a durable and easy to clean surface, ask one of our flooring experts at Village about a wood-look tile.

Geneseo, IL- Sliding Barn Doors Reveal a Hidden Office

Using sliding barn door hardware on the interior of the home has continued to grow in popularity. Many times you may picture re-purposing an old barnwood door or something rustic with this concept when you hear the term mentioned. Sometimes the concept of the barn door hardware itself is a fantastic solution for a space. In the case of this pocket home office, the look is perfect! There is nothing “rustic” or “barnwood” about this finished look. Instead, the hardware itself makes the statement!
Sliding barn doors reveal a hidden home office. |

We understand the appeal of being able to “hide” your home office piles behind doors but with a space as stylish as this, we say leave them open as much as possible! Press play on the video below to see the barn doors open and close.

The base cabinetry offers up a stack of drawers on each side and a knee drawer across the center. A laminate countertop spans wall to wall and has been installed without a coved backplash attached.

This leave the entire wall surface available for the shimmering and show-stopping Glazzio mosaic tile. A blend of grays, blacks, and white tiles pair with faceted mirror mosaic tiles. Even the most difficult homework assignment or bill paying that may have to happen here will seem glamorous when the backdrop is this tile!

Above the work surface is a center cabinet with doors and two open shelf cabinets that are home to storage baskets. A basket for each family member helps to keep messes and tasks organized. Crown molding on top and light rail molding on the bottom of this cabinet section completes the look.

Small spaces like this home office are the perfect place to get creative and playful with your material choices. That mirrored mosaic tile may be too much for filling an entire kitchen but in this dose, it is perfect. Cabinet hardware is another way you can be creative. The decorative knobs for the doors add a great detail to the small space.

Sliding barn door hardware can be used in many applications. In our industry we commonly see it used to conceal pantries, wine rooms, or closets. This home office happens to be located within a large open kitchen. The finished look of these doors and the cabinetry within is so great and looks right at home in the kitchen space.

Galesburg, IL- Galley Kitchen Packed With Storage and Style

Before we tour this new kitchen, take a look at one of the before images of this home in Galesburg, IL. A “Galley” kitchen layout means that there are two parallel walls of cabinetry in a design. This kitchen has one wall that is home to the sink and refrigerator, and another that includes the range and hood. A window is located on the wall that connects the two. Ready for an update, and in need of added storage but wait… that brick looks pretty cool right? Spoiler alert: it stays!

The new design will more than double the available wall cabinet storage and unitize the base cabinets to their fullest. All of the wall cabinetry will also now stretch to the ceiling and be finished off with an angled crown molding.  The original brick on this wall will become a part of the design. What a unique and fun textured element for this kitchen!
Kitchen designer Galesburg, IL |

In place of a stand-alone range hood, this new hood option is mounted and surrounded by cabinetry. A suite of appliances from our Maytag® line are dependable and stylish. Full Stainless Steel kitchen appliances are not for everyone’s personal taste. A sleek, black finish with Stainless Steel accents give a great alternative to an all Stainless kitchen here. The new range includes 6.2 cu. ft. of oven capacity inside and has convection features. This range was designed, engineered, and assembled in the U.S.A. and like all new Maytag® models it comes with a 10 Year Limited Parts Warranty.  Shop appliances from Village Home Stores here at this link.

Rustic Beech cabinetry in the “Stone” stain is from our Koch Classic line. The raised-panel door is named Hastings. We absolutely love kitchen remodeling because you are truly searching for the best working solution for an existing space. It is a challenge we are always excited to accept. There is no way to add to the overall width of this kitchen. Instead, the space must be used as best as it can be. How you fill a space with cabinets depends on the needs of who will be using it. Including large drawers and slideouts for storage was the best solution for this space.

Slideout shelves in galesburg kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.comA Luxury Vinyl Tile from our Tarkett Permastone® series has been installed in a 12″ x 24″ sized tile. The color is named Sandstone Maui Sand.  Luxury Vinyl (LVT) is a great product for a kitchen area. Permastone® is made in the U.S.A. and comes with a Lifetime Limited Residential Warranty. It can be installed grouted or ungrouted. This Permastone® product was also recently ranked #1 by a leading consumer magazine, receiving excellent ratings in every flooring category and best vinyl flooring out of 12 different products. Surrounding the range on each side are large stacks of drawers perfect for pots and pans storage. On the far left side of the new range is a cabinet that opens up to reveal two slideout shelves within.

This kitchen is unique in that each wall has it’s own backsplash statement. The original brick from the kitchen ha been kept to the range wall. The texture and character the brick brings to the space gives the kitchen design a rustic feel. This is especially true when you see the knotty Rustic Beech wood characteristics in the cabinetry. Across the kitchen is a contrast of textures that help to refine the space and keep it leaning more Transitional than Rustic in style. Glossy White 3″ x 6″ Subway Tiles by Rittenhouse is accented with a mosaic deco line from Jeffery Court named Stream StoneBlanco sink in black finish. |

The Engineered Quartz in this design is named Tundra. It perfectly blends the cabinetry, flooring, tile, and appliances together. A Blanco undermount sink in the Black finish offers two equal-size basins and a tall center divider. The sink wall is also home to the refrigerator and dishwasher and around the corner, a dry bar has been installed. Kitchen design rendering. |
Gray kitchen cabinets in remodeled Galesburg, IL kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.comThe base cabinets along this wall also include optimized storage space. On the far right of the sink wall of cabinetry is a door that opens to reveal two more slideout shelves. Slideout shelves from Koch Classic can be adjusted to roll at many heights. More shelves can also be added if you have shorter items to store and could use even more of that space. In a galley kitchen layout like this, placing a garbage can along the center wall would instantly grab your eye as you enter the kitchen. Instead, a pull-out waste basket is included in the base cabinet to the right of the sink. This category of cabinet can be ordered to reveal a large single bin or two smaller bins (shown).cabinets_galesburg

Geneseo, IL- Basement Bar

We don’t just create amazing kitchen and bathroom designs at Village Home Stores. There are many other types of spaces in your home that a custom design might be needed for. The home bar is a fantastic example of one of these spaces. Sometimes you really do want to go where everybody knows your name. If you are lucky enough to have a bar this amazing in your own basement…. you had better believe a LOT of folks will want to know your name! Grab a drink and let’s take a look around.Georgia Bulldogs themed bar in Geneseo, IL |

Home bar design by Village Home Stores. This Geneseo, IL basement bar remodel brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “nah. I think I’ll just have some friends over and watch the game here”. Why would you ever have to go out when you have this at home? Truth is… you rarely even see real taverns with as beautiful of a custom bar anymore. The barkeep here happens to be a bit of a Georgia Bulldogs fan but with a little bit of imagination you can picture it done up with your own team’s swag. Custom Rustic Cherry cabinetry has been distressed and a “Mocha” stain with “Black” accent glaze has been applied. The “Seneca” raised-panel doorstyle was used on the bar cabinetry. This raised-panel look is perfect for a Traditional styled bar created with the Koch Classic cabinetry.

Home bar featuring Georgia Bulldogs memorabilia. | VillageHomeStores.comThe main cabinets included in this home bar are only visible to the bartender himself. The most important view of this space is as a guest. The bar can comfortably seat 6 at the bar-height top and two more at the counter height top (shown above). behind those barstools are custom wainscot panels that perfectly compliment the cabinetry on the interior and back bar of the space.Wainscoting bar ideas. |

Shown in the image above, these wainscot panels are divided up with fluted column details and decorative wood corbel supports. As we share time and time again on this blog, details always make the design. Details you can see and appreciate plus details you can use and appreciate. Having a bar rail on the lower section of this bar helps make it really look complete. Including a bar rail on your project looks great and is so fantastic as a seated guest! Having a place to rest your feet when sitting at that height for extended amounts of time is important in making visitors feel comfortable. stainless_bar_rail

Traditional polished brass bar rail is still available but and updated look is created here by using a Stainless Steel bar rail system. Another detail that most female guests can appreciate are the purse hooks that were added just below the countertop overhang.purse_hook_on_bar

Georgia Bulldogs themed bar in Geneseo, IL. | VillageHomeStores.comThese hooks are very necessary in public establishments as a way to keep your handbag within reach and away from sticky floors. This home bar is very well kept so sticky floors are not a problem. Instead, the purse hooks are a thoughtful detail. Lets take a look at the back bar area that bar patrons can see. The wall has been fit with open shelves for bar accessories and memorabilia plus glass shelves for bottles and glassware. A 15″ wide built-in ice maker from KitchenAid provides uniform 3/4″ x 3/4″ x 1/2″ sized cubes. What looks like a tall pantry cabinet to the left of the ice maker is actually access to the real “back of the house”. Press play below to see this walk-through pantry front that is an entrance to the storage area of the lower level.

As you turn the corner, a 27″ wide built-in combination microwave and wall oven has been included in the design. With a lot of guests you will need to feed them. This microwave and oven are perfect for helping with that task. Directly across from the oven on the counter-height bar is a small 2-burner electric cooktop perfect for prepping food and serving guests. Two-burner electric cooktop. | VillageHomeStores.comThis smooth cooktop takes up a small amount of space but adds a lot of function to this area of the home bar. The countertops installed on the bar are a granite named “Saturnia”. In place of a polished look to the stone, a “brushed” finish has been used. This creates a more matte look and enhances the texture and patterns of the stone. Of course with all the food and drinks getting served at this bar you will need a bar sink. Bar sink in a home bar designed by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.comA single well Stainless Steel undermount sink is fit with a faucet and pullout sprayer. A garbage disposal button has been included to the left of the faucet. A tilt-out tray on the false drawer below the sink keeps sponges and dishrags out of sight when not in use. Of course cleaning up after entertaining is always made easier with a dishwasher. This 24″ KitchenAid is so quiet you could even have it running while entertaining. lighted_glass_shelvesKitchenAid beverage cooler in bar. | VillageHomeStores.comA mirrored back wall and glass shelves make for an impressive display for memorabilia and bottles. Glassware can also look great in this application. A colorful light system was installed behind the glass shelves to illuminate the wall in the evening. Adding mirror is a great way to open up any space. A glass-front beverage cooler is accessed near the cooktop area below the lower counter height top. This cooler from KitchenAid can be used as a built-in (shown here in our design) or freestanding. The same is true of the 15″ ice maker.Georgia Bulldogs home bar. | VillageHomeStores.comThere is an impressive amount of space behind the bar. Great storage including sliding shelves, pullout trash bins, and drawers for tools and towels. For a large crowd there is even extra seating on the interior of the bar. All this seating plus pool, shuffleboard, a game table, and a walk-out to the backyard fire pit. Why would you ever need to go anyplace else but home? Another great element are the fluted columns that stretch from the bartop to the tray ceiling. Fluted columns in a home bar. |

This same fluting detail can be found dividing the wainscot panels on the back of the bar. The carved wood corbel supports and fluted details are enhanced with the accent glaze that has been layered over the stain.column_detail This rich cherry wood, gorgeous granite tops,  and all of the design details create a home bar that outshines many of the public spaces opening up nowadays. We really love helping our customers make the most of their experiences at home. We love helping provide the perfect setting and creating spaces that bring people together. Cheers to these clients for welcoming us in to show you around this unforgettable home bar. custom_bar_cabinetsLooking for other great ideas for your home bar?
