Just a few short years ago we expanded our showroom to accommodate the return of a floor covering department to Village Home Stores. We have already outgrown that space and saw a need to do some re-arranging with our products as a part of our 2017 showroom updates. We now have a much larger space to accommodate all of the samples and product displays needed. Many of our customers are still learning that we offer a full floorcovering and tile department. From hardwoods to backsplash tile, we have it all:
Not just beautiful flooring, but a full tile showroom too! Tile for your kitchen backsplash, a sunroom, or an entire bathroom. Custom tiled showers have become very popular in both new and remodeled homes. Since we have introduced this department to our store we have installed many gorgeous custom tiled showers. See some of them here on our award-winning Houzz page. As you may have read in a previous post, our lighting showroom has now been moved to the first level of our showroom. That freed up a lot of space upstairs to use four areas for the new flooring department. Press play below to tour our new showroom space now located upstairs at 105 S State in Downtown Geneseo, IL.
Our best compliments come from the referrals and requests from our customers. We saw the need to include floor covering in our showroom from those active customers. Having flooring and tile available helps the selection and installation process become easier for those already working with us on a project. We also love being available to those who have worked with us before on an area of their home. No matter if you have been a customer of our for years or a brand new customer seeking out flooring for your home, we are excited to work with you. When you shop with Village Home Stores for your flooring and tile needs you can know that you will receive our Local Low Price Guarantee plus many added perks you may pay extra for someplace else:

We are thrilled to introduce this new product to our customers! While we have built the reputation for being your main source for complete remodels, we also provide quality products and expert design to empower our customers to do the work themselves. At Village Home Stores we value a customer who wants to invest their own time into a project that they will enjoy for years to come. It is not breaking news that shiplap, barnwood, and reclaimed woods of all styles and finishes have become very popular in kitchen and bath design. That is why we are very excited to launch this new self-stick wall plank product that is easy to install for an incredible impact! It truly is a DIY project that is NOT intimidating to take on.
What do we mean by a DIY project that is not intimidating to take on? The day our new display arrived for the showroom our owner Jim decided to just install it right away in between appointments. He had it finished well before lunch! Take a look at this video of some of that installation (we admit that did speed it up just a bit for your own sake).
This product is meant to be installed by the homeowner. So much so that you can install it using just a measuring tape, pencil, and utility knife. Much like many of our other products at Village Home Stores, these wall planks are made in the U.S.A. The 1/4″ thick panels are sustainably sourced and processed with real North American hardwood.
The boards are stained using a patent pending process of infusing stain pigments into the veneering process. The result is the illusion of exotic hardwoods and rustic and reclaimed characteristics on a smooth, easy to clean surface. A UV cured low-gloss finish is applied on the top of the planks and is wiped clean with water and a damp cloth. Let us walk you through the process step by step:
Plan & Measure Space:
Before installing it is recommended that you allow the wood planks to acclimate to the climate on the interior of your home. This helps to prevent any gapping or cracking in the planks if the humidity changes once installed. Carefully plan your space before you make your first cut. When this product says “industrial-strength adhesive” that translates to “once I’m stuck on the wall I won’t come off without a fight” adhesive.
Measure & Mark Your Cut Lines:
Be sure to measure your planks and mark on both sides of the material before scoring. Double check your wall dimension and your marked material one last time before scoring the plank.
Score the Planks:
Using a straight edge firmly placed along the marked lines, score the planks with a utility knife. You will want to do this on both side of the plank to achieve the cleanest break in the product.
Once both sides have been scored successfully, snap at the line firmly securing each side of the plank. Keep your hands close to the line to get the cleanest break.
Clean Up Edges:
Using your knife or a sanding block, clean up the splintered edges from your snapped planks.
RECOMMENDED CUT METHOD:
It only took a few rows of the utility knife method for Jim to switch to using a saw for the rest of the cuts. This made for quicker and cleaner cuts of the material. If you have access to a saw for use you will be thankful for this option. For areas like outlets and airvents, you can make these cuts using a drill first as a starter hole. Then use a jigsaw or scroll saw to complete the cuts. Always use eye protection when cutting materials with a saw.
Peel, Place, THEN Stick:
Remove the adhesive tape backing from the plank and place your first plank. Using your marked guidelines on the wall place your first plank. As your move along with the installation you will want to but the seams of materials together at a slight angle first before allowing adhesive to touch the surface.
Once in place, press firmly to allow the adhesive to make as much contact with the surface as possible. If you have one, A “J-Roller” helps with this task. Trim pieces are available if the look of the cut edges isn’t desired. Ask a salesperson about these trim options.
For Ceiling Application:
Yes you can absolutely use this wall plank system on your ceiling! It is recommended that once installed, you add small 18 gauge finish nails to help secure to the ceiling and take some strain off the adhesive being pulled by gravity.
Where can you use these wall planks? They can be installed on any structurally sound, clean, dry, and flat surface. Accent walls, decorative headboards, adding style to the back of an open shelf, the possibilities are endless and we can;t wait to see where our customers use it! It should be noted that this product is NOT recommended to install planks in any high moisture areas such as bathrooms or steam rooms. If you want this wood plank look in these areas ask us about the wood look tile options available from Village Home Stores.
This self-stick wall plank system is available in 9 different finishes all of which you can see on display in our Geneseo, IL showroom. Because this product can be installed by you without any added labor charges it is sold by the square foot and our sales team can help you estimate how much you will need for your project. We are offering this product at an introductory sale price!
Please stop in or call us with any questions about this great new product! (309) 944-1344.
Village Home Stores is proud to offer Whirlpool appliances to the Quad Cities region. We are able to say with great confidence that we carry products that are backed by U.S. manufacturing and jobs. Did you know that:
Whirlpool Corp. is the only full line appliance manufacturer based in the United States. They operate 9 US manufacturing plants in 5 different states.
Our staff is so lucky to be located just a short drive away from one of those plants in Amana, Iowa. We have been able to participate in a product training and plant tour now for the past few years. Please excuse our attire for the factory tour, this is not a fashion blog folks.
The plant we visited last week is home to all of the bottom-mount refrigeration operations as well as built-in refrigeration. This 2.1 Million square foot facility is huge! We clocked 1 3/4 miles on our factory tour alone. The water treatment facility for the plant also supplies the entire Amana Colonies with water. Whirlpool provides back-up power when needed for the region as well. This Amana, IA plant produces roughly 6,400 refrigerators a day! Pardon our pun but that’s pretty cool!
First of all, say hello to Seth (shown above on left). He is our newest member of the Appliances staff and was able to join us this year for this Whirlpool training and tour event. In addition to our tour, we received product training on many new models and features being introduced in laundry and kitchen appliances. Shown below is one of those new features called an “under-shelf prep zone” which utilizes an un-used space for for marinating or other storage needs in this new refrigerator model. This same new refrigerator model includes TWO ice makers, each with the ability to produce 4.6 lb.s of ice. Just get a text that you are entertaining guests after the work day? No problem! You can program to have plenty of ice by the time you get home right from your mobile phone. We saw so many amazing new products! Many of these models are already at our store or on their way.
View this current US Manufacturing Map from Whirlpool showing the locations and products represented in the 9 manufacturing plants in the US. Whirlpool Corporation currently employs 22,000 manufacturing workers. Whirlpool truly believes that “there is no right way to do a wrong thing” and has committed to this opportunity to stay in the US. For example, instead of moving freezer manufacturing to Mexico or China, Whirlpool has recently purchased an vacant factory in Ottawa, Ohio keeping thousands of jobs in Ohio and allowing another category of product manufacturing to remain in the US.
No complaints that we were greeted the morning of training with cupcakes alongside our breakfast (see our Instagram post on the right when we caught Rob with a cupcake at 8am). We were thrilled to hear that KitchenAid is hosting their #10000cupcakes campaign again this year to benefit Susan G. Komen. You can help make a difference for this cause! Share a photo or video with @KitchenAidUSA on Instagram or Twitter and include #10000cupcakes and #donate. For every original photo or video posted KitchenAid will donate $1 to support the fight against breast cancer, up to $10,000. Join us in store Thursday October 27th from 4:30-7pm as part of our annual “Witches Night Out” celebration and decorate your own cupcake to snap a photo of. Be sure to follow us on Instagram here to see our own cupcake posts.
Do you have a recent model of a Whirlpool, Maytag, Amana, or KitchenAid bottom-freezer refrigerator in your kitchen? That unit was made just a short drive past Coralville in Amana, Iowa and we had the privilege to see the smiling faces that assembled it for you.Read about our trip to Amana last yearhere at this link. This Cordova, IL kitchen is a sophisticated approach to the Rustic Transitional style. Rustic Beech cabinetry from our Koch line includes knots and other rustic features and a rich “Chestnut” stain dresses up the space. Solid gray quartz countertops and Stainless Steel appliances complete the look…. and that look is breathtakingly gorgeous!
The “Vicksburg” doorstyle selected is a full-overlay style. This means that the doors and drawer fronts span as far across the cabinet face frames as possible leaving little gap between each cabinet. A great example of this seamless full-overlay style is the pantry area that surrounds the new double drawer refrigerator.
Staggered heights and depths were used to add interest to the large L-shaped layout of wall cabinetry. There are many excellent cabinet storage solutions in this kitchen design. The image below showcases the “X” shaped wine cubbies included. Wine storage and display in the perfect location at the end of the kitchen. The cubbies cap off the wall cabinetry and when entertaining, this leg of the design is perfect to set up as the beverage center.
Many of the specialty storage cabinets are hidden from first glance. You don’t need a pull-out cabinet or borrow space in your pantry cabinet for spices, spice racks can be added to your wall cabinetry. Click the thumbnail below to watch this wall cabinet open up to reveal spice racks installed on the interior of each door.
Of course the best way to optimized the corner of your kitchen is to include a lazy susan cabinet. This kitchen has an all wood susan cabinet in an angled front layout. Replacing the L-shaped susan cabinet with space for a full radius of shelf to turn within. This is an alternative to the traditional susan shelves that form a “Pac Man” shaped shelf. The same angled front door is repeated in the wall cabinetry above.
You also gain added counter space in the corner when using the angled front style of corner cabinet. Ans speaking of counter space, there is plenty with the new dual-height island design. The built-in cooking center is on the interior side facing the kitchen sink. Tall cabinets form the bar-height side of the island. A overhang on the tops stretches in toward the great room and provide seating for 4 guests.
Instead of simply adding a panel that looks like finished cabinet doors, why not make them real doors? At 12″ deep, these full-height door cabinets give a polished look to the back of the island plus add a lot of storage. Extra dishes, bulk items, small appliances, even board games and remotes can all be stored here out of sight but right within reach.
Storage is great but many will also appreciate the construction of these Koch Cabinets. This Cordova, IL kitchen has been ordered from Koch’s Imperial Series of construction. This plywood construction series includes upgraded materials as well as upgraded assembly processes that add to the integrity and longevity of your investment. All of these upgrades plus option to upgrade your drawer box construction and guides as well as your door hinges to a soft-close option. The 1/2″ plywood sides may also be ordered with applied 1/4″ veneered skins for finished ends. Talk with your designer at Village Home Stores about the cabinet construction upgrades that are available for you and your project. This customer upgraded to full-extension, soft-close drawer guides and soft-close hinges on the doors. A clean built-in look was achieved in the island by including a wall oven with cooktop installed above in place of a slide-in or freestanding unit. This can be done with a gas, electric or induction cooktop. The appliance package selected for this remodel is from the Whirlpool line available at Village Home Stores.
Surrounding the built-in oven are two tray divider cabinets. To the left of the new oven and tray divider cabinets is a large stack of drawers. This unit looks like a two drawer cabinet but behind the top drawer is a hidden third drawer perfect for utensils, lids, or potholders. Click the thumbnail below to see this hidden third drawer cabinet.
We have a full album of photos from this project uploaded to our Houzz.com portfolio. See these images and save some to your own ideabooks by clicking here. Houzz is a fantastic way to organize your project inspiration and even communicate with your designer at Village Home Stores. If you are building or remodeling anytime soon you will want to download this app to your tablet and phone. The adjacent front sitting room area of the home was also given a whole new look. Two sections of wall surrounding the fireplace now have built-in cabinetry that matches the style and finish of the kitchen. Wood countertops in the same “Chestnut” stain help give the units a custom look but set them apart from the kitchen while keeping everything coordinated. Another detail is the addition of textured water glass inserts inside of the cabinet doors. The freedom to display items within without the exposed shelves to gather dust.
This home has been updated and is almost unrecognizable from where it began. Step in from the front door and the new open kitchen and living spaces looks like a brand new home worthy of a magazine cover feature! Our thanks to this Cordova, IL family for their business and our hats off to the homeowner who completed his own installation of the kitchen design. Are you ready to start your own remodel story with us? Your first step is to make an appointment with a member of our team. Contact us onlineat this link or give us a call at (309) 944-1344. We can’t wait to hear what you are working on.
Three wood finishes, two granite colors, AND four metal finishes? Yes that is correct! Take a look at how amazing everything looks together! Proof that with the right guidance and vision, you can pull off mixing materials like this. The perimeter oak cabinetry is actually original to the kitchen. A peninsula was removed and now a large painted island sits in the center of the kitchen.
A brand new appliance package was purchased from Village Home Stores including A counter-depth refrigerator and dishwasher in KitchenAid’s first-in-the-industry Black Stainless Steel. This uniquely tinted Stainless Steel is sophisticated, stylish, and striking in person. The true Stainless Steel finish wipes clean in seconds and the tinted color even helps reduce the appearance of fingerprints on the panels.
The new kitchen island top is a granite named “Desert Dream” and on perimeter of the kitchen “Astoria” granite has been installed. Both of these natural stones are in a “brushed” finish. Instead of the expected high-polished look granite normally has, the brushed finish gives a unique and warm texture while enhancing the look and feel of the stone. Two stones and two appliance finishes. The refrigerator and range wall is the best example of showcasing the two finishes side-by-side that work perfectly together in the finished look.
A Stainless Steel 30″ wide, front-control slide-in electric range is just inches from the Black Stainless refrigerator. The new distressed painted wood hood above the range and accent tile ties everything together, the look is perfect. A Stainless Steel microwave drawer in the new kitchen island is right across from a Black Stainless dishwasher. That is not all for metal finishes in the new space. Oil-Rubbed Bronze faucets have been paired with Hammered Copper undermount sinks.
The Hammered Copper is not only a great color to add to the mix, the texture is incredible. With views of the countryside out every window, this Hammered Copper adds a rustic touch to the space while the shape and setting keep it formal. The use of a deep farmhouse apron-front model sink is the right choice for this Rustic Traditional look and offers even more of that Hammered surface to show.
An updated look to an existing Oak kitchen. The finishes aren’t the only upgrades included. The appliances selected for this project represent some of the best features available in appliances today. The slide-in range includes convection and steam features in the oven and 5 elements including a warming zone. An internal water dispenser, versatile shelving, plus a three-tiered freezer drawer make this one of the most spacious counter-depth refrigerators you will ever use. This 24″ wide microwave drawer by Sharp has been redesigned to pair more seamlessly with all of our brands. With a tilt-out control panel, there are no handles to match up. Perfect for including in islands or even built-in to a custom bar area, this microwave is one of our top-selling models for both remodels and new homes. View our full catalog of applianceshere on the websiteand contact anyone from our expert appliance sales team with any questions you have on these products.
Oak crown molding and refrigerator panels were ordered to adapt the existing kitchen to the new design. The new black-painted cabinetry is from our DuraSupreme line and showcases their Heritage paint series. A wood hood above the new range and a large kitchen island are each finished in the “B” color from this series. An “X” back panel design is paired with a beadboard end panel treatment. There is now space for four barstools plus plenty of space for a large dining table area right next to the island.
DuraSupreme’s Heritage paint finishes come in a wide range of color options. From a bright antique white to this black painted look there are so many possibilities. Heritage painted finishes all include distressed features like chipped corners, worn edges, and even “bird-pecking” which are perfect old-world characteristics for the furniture-look island and wood hood installed.
This new kitchen sits on the perfect platform to showcase the complete look. Beautiful new Hickory hardwood floors have been installed throughout the entire great room all the way to the front entrance of the home. This warm Hickory “Tackroom” finished hardwood is from the Chaparal Collection. “Annie” (see below) just loves laying in the sunlight on her new Hallmark floors.
Annie is now pretty much internet-famous thanks tothis feature Hallmark Flooring wrote up on her (new floors). All of these finishes together in one space and does it work? ABSOLUTELY! Having a designer on hand to help you select and place your selections keeps your project vision on track and well executed. Your designer at Village Home Stores will have a firm grasp on the overall vision for the finished look and that is a valuable asset.
A new tile backsplash ties all of these selections together perfectly. Matte finish subway tile in a color called “Elemental Tan” plus a Glazzio accent tile from their “Corrugated Scapes” series in the “Ginger Clove” color. A bold band of accent tile spans the entire L-shape and a square field installed above the range completes the look.
This partial kitchen remodel was not all we completed at this home. New flooring was installed in many rooms and two bathrooms were completely made over. See the full album of over 70 photos from these projects here on our houzz page. We also are happy to announce that this kitchen and both bathrooms has been included in an episode of the Village Home Show. You can watch it entirely by pressing play in the video below:

Village Home Stores has searched high and wide for a concrete countertop source that aligns with the quality you have come to expect from our store since 1984. We are so lucky to have such an innovative new option local to us made right here in the Quad Cities Region! Garrett Concepts in Davenport, IA has teamed up with Village Home Stores to offer their unique and innovative Ultra-High Performance Concrete to our customers and the possibilities are limitless.
Concrete counters have been a sought-after look for many years and are often associated with strictly Modern or Contemporary spaces… not anymore! With the continued rise in popularity of a more Transitional consumer taste and the love of the rustic, concrete now can span many styles. Available in four textures and countless color options, this is a superior product customized just for you and your home.
This Ultra-High Performance product is made dense and durable. So much so that you can install the same product indoors and outdoors even in our extreme Midwest climate. How durable? The dense molecular makeup of this Ultra-High Performance Concrete is gained by using a material that is a molecular rhombus instead of a cube found in traditional concrete. This results in smaller pores and gets you greater impact resistance, impermeability, corrosive resistance, even freeze/thaw resistance. That means that something like this custom concrete fire table in Geneseo, IL can be outdoors year-round: The acrylic topical sealant applied to the concrete is incredible and also UV Stable eliminating sun-fading. Once sealed, this product is also VOC compliant and foodsafe. This sealer is heat resistant up to 400 degrees and provides superior stain protection. Your concrete will look great and last for generations to come. You are in no way limited to the standard concrete gray color you have come to associate with the word either. So many colors are available and even custom colors can be mixed specifically for your project.
This wetbar concrete top was recently installed in a LeClaire, IA home. We think the finished space looks perfect and concrete was a unique and durable choice for this project. How lucky are we that this product is manufactured locally in the Quad Cities. That helps us know that specifying and installing this Ultra-High Performance Concrete for our projects helps support our local communities and allows for quick attention and service for our customers. Ultra-High Perfromance Concrete is environmentally friendly as well because of the reduction of “portland cement” used. Portland cement is a major cause in environmental damage due to habitat scarring and carbon emissions created when making it. The reduced amount of this type of cement in this special blend give you a great product without creating negative impacts on our community.
Keep in mind you are not just limited to using this product for countertops. Imagine the other possibilities for this material! Bathroom vanity tops and even groutless shower surrounds and wall panels can make your space look great and give you amazing benefits once installed. This maintenance free product is perfect for areas like outdoor kitchens or even fireplace surrounds. Your concrete is custom made so that also means you can add great elements like integrated sinks, custom inlays, even dish strainer channels.Check out this A.D.A. compliant ramp sinkover on Houzz. What a unique and functional statement piece!
This custom fire table feature that was built with Ultra-High Performance Concrete is a perfect example of how this unique product paired with the creative team at Garrett Concepts gets you awesome results. The ability to build a statement furniture piece customized exactly for your size and space is so incredible! You can’t walk into a big-box store and grab an end result like this. This table is roughly the size of a conference table and it is easy to picture a large group of friends and family laughing and sharing stories around it.
Ultra-High Performance Concrete starts at just $49 a sq. ft. installed and with the team at Garrett Concepts and your designer from Village Home Stores, your dream countertop or custom furniture piece can easily become a reality! If concrete is something you have been wanting for years or if it has recently grabbed your attention, we want to hear from you. Contact a designer at Village Home Stores today so we can answer you questions and quote you a price on this excellent new product. Prepare for the understatement of the century… “Building a home can be overwhelming because of all of the decisions to be made.” Our goal at Village Home Stores is to let you leave with an exceptional customer experience whether you are purchasing laundry soap or an entire home of products. We want the building process to be as simple as possible for our customers. You shouldn’t have to drive around and manage all of these decisions on your own. When building a home, we want you to be able to select as much product as you can from Village Home Stores. This is so we know the end result will look the best it can and so that the process isn’t stressful for you. Great finished projects look complete when one concept is in mind for the entire home.
We put together an entire team of Village experts for our new construction customers. Your kitchen designer will have access to your lighting expert and flooring and so on. Communication is the key to a successful project. So where do you get started? Your first step is to set up an appointment with a lighting expert and bring the following to that appointment:
What Do I Bring To My Appointment?
Bring a copy of your home print or arrange to have your builder send a copy to our store before your appointment date.
Collect some examples of lighting that grabs your eye. These could be magazine clippings or ideas saved to your personal tablet. Take advantage of some of the great online resources for inspiration. Start a board on Pinterest or save images to an ideabook on Houzz. This helps our experts get an idea of what looks and spaces you are drawn to.
Bring an open mind. We know that sounds about as cheesy as can be but just like any other shopping you may do, there is so much out there. That Dining Room light you have had saved on Pinterest for three years may not be available now or within your budget. Our experts can help you find an option that does fit within these perimeters. Just keep an open mind to what is available.
Having that open mind will be helpful during the entire building phase. You may be pleasantly surprised when we can find an option that you may even love more than the original light you were hoping for. Collecting examples can be the most fun part of your building process. Many times just a single image of a finished space can help your team of experts at Village out tremendously. Shopping for lighting in catalogs can be difficult. The same light in a catalog will never have the impact it does when installed in a room. Take this ceiling fan on the right for example. When shown isolated on a white background you can tell it has great style and a sophisticated look but would it make a great statement in your room? There are thousands and thousands of fans we could have choose for this Hearth Room in Moline, IL. Seeing it installed you can see that the fan selected looks like it was truly made for the space it ended up in. Our team has the vision for your lighting concept as long as you give them the correct leads. Take a look below at the same fan installed with a beautiful beamed ceiling in the finished Hearth Room in Moline, ILIt is perfect for the overall look of the room. When we know the look you are after, we can help you get there. Searching for lighting to go above your kitchen island? Revisit the kitchen images you have been drawn to for your cabinet design and see if the lighting included is part of the look you love.
What Does a “Lighting Concept” Mean?
A cohesive look to your home lighting selections as you or a guest use the home.
Your lighting selections should compliment each other, not match. This is the role of our lighting experts. They will help you select the perfect scale, style, and application for the lighting you need and keep them all as part of the overall vision for the project.
Less work for you! Having our expert lighting team work for you to create this whole home lighting concept is one of the best reasons to work with Village Home Stores. You don’t have to hunt all over town or forage through the online jungle. Share with us your examples and we will prepare a concept for you.
How about we walk you through an example of a lighting concept? The examples we are showing you in this blog post may not be your own personal taste or budget, but it is a fantastic example of a complete lighting concept.
This is a home in Moline, IL built by Rodenburg Builders. The lighting for this new home was hand-picked just for this client and their specific taste. No matter what kind of day you are having, it could always use a little extra sparkle. Trust us this home now has a lot of sparkle!
The three fixtures shown together above are all found within the same area of the home. Two kitchen island pendants hang within view of the Dinette area and a Wine Room within the kitchen has a clerestory window that peeks a view at the chandelier within. All unique fixtures yet they are not “matchy matchy” lights. Instead they compliment each other and are designated for specific locations and tasks.
Stunning “Carson” 4 light chandelier pendants by Crystorama hang above the island (shown above) and give an open and airy look to the kitchen. Right within the kitchen is a Wine Room. This room is illuminated with an enchanting Artcraft “Bella Vista” chandelier (shown below). The light itself is breathtaking. The reflection the crystals cast on the ceiling and the sparkling stone walls make you want a glass of champagne immediately.
There is a large Dining Room just off of this kitchen area. The Dining Room light selected is a shimmering statement that will lead to many great dinner party conversations. Prisms and mirror in an oval shape. Proof that the lighting is the “jewelry of the home.”
Much liket the kitchen and entertaining spaces, the Master Bathroom is another excellent example of a calculated lighting plan that has been selected for a finished space that is truly “Pinterest-worthy.” On the main level of the home is a Master Suite that includes a large bath with multiple vanity areas and a walk-in closet. The “Aged Brass” finish on the lighting and plumbing fixtures glow in the spacious Master Bathroom. Here is the lighting concept for that space:
The “Kyle” ceiling fixtures, “Livingston” sconces, and “Lyon” closet pendants each have their own unique look but work so wonderful in the completed project. Each of these lights happen to be made by Hudson Valley but are from three series of lighting. This Geneseo kitchen remodel has one of the best marble looks we have ever featured…. but these tops are Formica! Paired with painted cabinetry, this project was a great before and after story to share on our TV show. Watch a full episode of the Village Home Show including this Before & After story as well as a trip to our granite fabrication shop. Click the video below to see the full tour.
It is no secret that there is nothing more classic and timeless these days than a white painted kitchen. White painted cabinetry has been a universally popular choice for many years and will not be dropping in popularity within the next handful of years. There is something about having a white kitchen that gives it a clean and classic look. This newly remodeled kitchen in Geneseo, IL is no exception.
White painted cabinetry from our Koch Classic line has been installed in the “Prairie Shaker” door. While there were no walls removed to create this finished space, we did have Durian Builders remove a ceiling soffit to help open up the space for extra cabinetry storage.
The original gold-flecked backsplash tile had been removed before we snapped this “before” photo. Even though the original kitchen was also white, it was in need of an upgrade. No changes were made to the general “footprint” of the new kitchen but new materials bring a great updated look to the space.
The clean and classic cabinetry is complimented by a subtle contrast in color in the Rittenhouse 3″ x 6″ subway tile that is picked up in the veining colors of the marble countertops….but these tops aren’t true marble! Don’t feel bad if these photos fooled you and you thought they were real (even in person this is easy to do).
The countertops are a fraction of the cost of true marble because they are a Formica laminate color called “Calacatta Marble” Formica’s advancements in printing larger prints onto their sheetgoods helps create a very realistic look. The original kitchen countertops had what is called a “Squared” edge profile. This means that you have two visible seams of material right on the front edge of the counters. Installing these new Formica tops in the “Full-Wrap” edge profile helps to give a more convincing look of a slab of marble.
A drop-in sink and single-handle faucet complete the look. This E-Granite composite sink is durable and very stylish. With five colors to select from and available in drop-in or under-mount styles, there is an E-Granite sink that is perfect for every counter choice. White appliances are right at home in this kitchen. By not using Black or Stainless Steel appliances in this design, the U-shaped kitchen looks even larger and brighter. Installing a microwave hood above your cooktop helps free up counter space in the kitchen.
New flooring has been installed throughout this kitchen and eat-in dining area. This “American Classic Plank” in the “Gunstock” color may look like hardwood… but it is in fact Luxury Vinyl Tile Planks. LVT flooring can be a wonderful choice for your kitchen because it far more comfortable to stand on for long periods of time when compared to ceramic tile or hardwoods. Read more about LVT here in this past blog post.
This kitchen is full of wonderful storage! Drawers are full-extension, self-closing drawers and the interiors of the cabinets have been fitted with sliding shelves. Even the tall pantry cabinet has sliding shelves inside.
This kitchen doesn’t just have one tall pantry cabinet. There is another located across the kitchen in the desk area. If two pantry cabinets aren’t enough storage there is always the bonus storage found in this large 45″ wide wall cabinet above the desk.
The Formica tops and subway tile backsplash would not look as stunning if it weren’t for the great light that washes over them. Our Diode L.E.D. lighting system has been installed here for undercabinet lighting. These lights are energy efficient and help any kitchen look amazing day or night.
While many older and historic homes may not have this large of a kitchen, we can make any space look just as classic. In this case, the home had been remodeled many years ago to create a larger kitchen. This new U-shaped layout with a built-in desk area and secondary dining space (formal dining room is just outside the door) this kitchen is fantastic and functional.

Interest and demand for 3-Door Refrigerators (also referred to as “French Door” models) has continued to grow since their introduction. We were recently invited back to visit the Whirlpool® plant located in Amana, Iowa to see first hand the facilities and smiling faces who make all bottom-freezer Whirlpool®, Amana®, Maytag®, and KitchenAid® refrigerators. This plant in Amana, Iowa is full of industry “firsts”. The first Amana® Radarange microwave came off the lines at this plant.
The first French Door, French Door with ice and water dispenser, and 4-Door Refrigerator models all have an origin story that begins in Amana, Iowa as well. Now you can now add 5-Door Refrigeration to that list.

Which brings us to our product profile of the new 5-Door Models. We will focus on the KitchenAid® KRMF706ESS (Stainless Steel) and EBS (Black Stainless) models. Let us begin by saying YES! We do have this refrigerator in-store so you can come see all of what we are showcasing here on the blog in person. The first thing worth mentioning is this model is available in KitchenAid®’s new fingerprint resistant Black Stainless finish! Yes you read that correct fingerprint resistant! Don’t believe us? Stop in the store and test it out. This gorgeous new finish option pairs Stainless Steel and chrome accents with a true Stainless Steel in a black finish.
Of course with this 5-Door Refrigerator launch there are so many features to talk about but we want to share a few of our favorites:

HerbStorage, why would you need that? Have you ever thrown away half of an unused container of basil just because you didn’t get a second or third chance to use it? These clever little boxes have an angled center section for you to fill with a bit of water so that the cut edges of your herbs are in water and the herbs rest above the water but still sealed in the box. We attended a Whirlpool® training event and noticed that the mint in the herb storage area looked amazing while the plastic container with a few remaining sprigs of mint in it was already looking unappetizing (we were only day 2 of training). After just one day there was already a noticeable difference.

What really stood out to us with this new 5-Door Refrigeration launch is that left-hand Drawer With5 Preset Temperatures. This drawer is a champion of many tasks! Preset temperatures for meat/fish, drinks, greens/herbs, deli/cheese, even thaw/marinate each available with a touch of a button. Did you know there was an ideal temperature for marinating? KitchenAid® knows (and it is 39 degrees by the way). The 5-Door configuration allows for you to customize your use depending on your own lifestyle. Maybe this drawer is where you store all of your deli meats and cheeses, or your canned beverages? You can give it a new task every day.

Speaking of customizing your storage, the 3-Tier Freezer Drawer on these models does that very well. We used to ask customers when deciding between a Side x Side model and a Bottom Freezer style “Do you want to pile or do you want to file?” To “file” items in a Side x Side freezer, or “pile” them all into one drawer below. The 3-Tier Freezer Drawer is the best of both worlds! Organize frozen items on three levels, making them easier to access and see. The lower basket comes with a storage divider to help keep smaller items in place. Those two top drawers are perfectly sized for organizing frozen meals and smaller pre-packaged items.

These 5-Door Refrigerators have two independent cooling systems within. One is for the dedicated refrigeration to help keep food fresh longer. The second is a separate system for frozen food. This technology paired with The FreshFlow™ Air Filter (helps minimize odors) and the FreshFlow™ Produce Preserver (helps delay over-ripening). All together these elements create the all-star team that is the Perserva® Food Care System. You can’t see it doing the work but you will see the results of the work. The Ethylene gases that come off from your food is taken into the Preservers and extends the life of your food by up to 4 days. That means less spoiled food waste.
Two of our other favorite features on the new 5-Door Refrigerators are the L.E.D. Lighting and In-Door-Ice System. The LED lights in these models use less energy, are maintenance-free and never need to be replaced. There is even under-shelf lighting so you will see every single item in your refrigerator. Come see this in person and while you have those doors open note the Platinum interior finish and In-Door-IceSystem on the left door. This design takes up less space in your refrigerator and makes the ice bucket very accessible when you need ice in larger quantities. If you have any questions about what you have seen here on the blog feel free to contact us online or better yet stop in to see us. The Black Stainless Steel is reason enough to come in and check out these new models.
