You know we love sharing before and after remodel stories here on the blog, but this Moline, IL kitchen is way more than another before and after story. What a stunning take on the updated two tone kitchen trend with dark base cabinets and light uppers. But folks, we almost didn’t have the chance to bid this project! We say over and over that we we can beat box store pricing if we are just given the opportunity and this project is proof of that. This customer was ready to purchase cabinetry from a box store and thankfully a friend suggested she also get a bid from our small business. And we got the chance to sell her this amazing kitchen!
How gorgeous and on trend is this look!? The Savannah doorstyle from our Koch Classic line of cabinetry is installed with a painted gray “Fog” finish on the base cabinets and “White” paint on the upper cabinets and floating shelves. The old kitchen was original to the home and needed a wall removed to create a much more functional layout. What an update!
A wall once divided the kitchen from the dining room and now a peninsula with counter-height stools offers added seating. Hanstone quartz in the “Speechio White” design dazzles and sparkles. Across from the U shape kitchen, the refrigerator is recessed into the wall and a pantry and coffee bar area has been installed. Anyone with a KitchenAid mixer will be envious of the cabinet shown below:
Mixer lift cabinets can be a great storage solution for bakers because they free up countertop space and offer a sturdy location for your stand mixer that tucks easily out of sight when not in use. Notice the cord in the above image. We always recommend you install an outlet on the back end of this cabinet interior so you can always have your mixer plugged in and at the ready without having to bend down.
We also included a pull out spice rack in the kitchen near the range. Pull out cabinets can be ordered in many sizes and even have options for other storage besides spices and cooking oils. Ask a Village Home Stores kitchen designer about pull out knife racks, towel bars, pegboard utensil holders, bin utensil holders, tray dividers, and more! The new kitchen layout in this Moline home includes a peninsula with an extended countertop for casual counter-height seating. A large stack of drawers spans most of the peninsula area with a blind corner cabinet at the turn. This is the second kitchen feature we have shared in this new year to include a blind corner cabinet.
This wire blind corner insert is the ultimate use of space. A factory-installed slide and pivot wire rack system allows you easy access to the usable storage space of this cabinet. Ask a kitchen designer at Village Home Stores about all of your corner cabinet options from Koch Cabinetry. Press play below to see this cabinet open and operate.
Another storage area we love was installed by the customer in the small hallway near the kitchen. A narrow section of wall was converted into a lighted bar area with a small beverage cooler. It is now the perfect location to store and display bar items right within reach of the kitchen, dining room, and nearby sunroom when entertaining.
We can handle your remodel from start to finish but that is not every customer’s need. This customer arranged for their own demo and installation and Village provided the cabinetry and countertop surfaces. Village can help as little or as much as you want for your own project. We also want to remind you that we carry a wide variety of products that can compliment all project needs and budgets.

This week’s project feature is a new home that was just completed in Geneseo, IL built by Bob Johnson Construction. We love the classic look of a white painted kitchen cabinet. The kitchen in this home includes our Koch Classic Cabinetry line in the Prairie doorstyle and painted “White” finish on the perimeter. The kitchen island is installed in the same doorstyle but finished in a gray paint color named “Fog”. The kitchen cabinetry stretches all the way to the ceiling and leaves just enough space for a stylish stacked crown molding to be applied.
The Stainless Steel appliance package from Whirlpool is packed with great features. The cooking wall includes a front control gas range with convection and a microwave hood above it. The convection oven has a “Rapid Preheat” feature that uses all of the elements and a rear fan to preheat the oven 20% faster. This new front-control range design gives you a sleek and custom look without needing a special size or opening. Fitting in any standard 30″ wide opening, you can replace your existing electric or gas range with this look that removes the tall control area on the back wall. Now your entire backsplash can show off.
And speaking of backsplashes, check out this fun take on the Subway tile look: elongated tiles! These 3″ x 12″ tiles are from our Midwest Tile line in the New Yorker series and “Bright White” color. The cooktop on this Whirlpool range has an oval shaped 5th burner at the center making it perfect for griddles and large cookware. Cleanup of the cooktop is so easy with the EZ-2-Lift™ hinged cast-iron grates. The hinged design allows you to wipe up under them without removing them entirely. Shop this range and more great Whirlpool appliances at our Local low Price Guaranteed here on our website.
The refrigerator wall of the kitchen design includes a fingerprint-resistant finish Stainless Steel refrigerator. This builder was able to include a planned niche space in the wall to recess the refrigerator and allow the customer to purchase a standard, full-depth model. Not every kitchen design demands the flush style of a counter-depth model, but every design certainly looks cleaner with it.
Curious about how the depth of your refrigerator may change the look of your kitchen design? Check out this ideabook on our houzz page that is a collection of full-depth and counter-depth models installed in completed kitchens. We love the shallow landing space that was created on the right side of the refrigerator. This narrow cabinet area helps to give the refrigerator wall a built in look and provides a great landing space for mail, keys, and phones. This kitchen opens up to a dining space as well as a living room.
The dining table just off of the kitchen can comfortably seat a large crowd for a meal, but the island also has seating which can be a great casual place to grab a seat. Counter-height seating continues to be the trend for kitchen island designs. Bar heights can be uncomfortable for longer periods of time and difficult to use for families with small children. With the kitchen sink at the center of the island top, the overhang end can become a wonderful and large work surface when needed. Many of our clients work from home and prefer the option of a desk area in the heart of the home. Gone are the days of having that kitchen desk facing a wall. In this design you can plug a laptop or tablet right into the end of the island and soak in all this amazing sunlight and open space.
When you build a new home there are so many decisions to be made and products to be selected. It can be very overwhelming to take on every choice and checklist yourself. That is why we have a full team that can assemble for you with experts from each department in our store. Village Home Stores truly is your one stop shop for new home and remodeling customers. In this home we provided cabinetry, countertops, flooring, wall tile, lighting, window treatments, and appliances.
The lighting selected for the great room kitchen, dining space, and front entry are all from our Kichler line. The seedy glass adds a fun texture and keeps the overall look light and bright. We supplied lighting for inside and outside of this Geneseo home. If you are in need of a single light for your home or an entire new home of lighting, our experts can help you select the lights perfect for your style, size of space, and budget. Shop our lighting online anytime here at villagehomestores.com.
We also installed window shades and blinds throughout this new home. Our custom window shades and blinds department has really become a great option for our customers. We have competitive prices, amazing selections, and our own expert installers to help you get the stylish look and privacy you need for your home. Contact us today for a quote. The main flooring surface in the foyer, great room, dining room, kitchen, hallway, pantry, laundry room, and office are all a luxury vinyl plank.
This is the Lux Haus II series from our Triumph line and the color is “Belvoir”. This vinyl flooring product is amazing because it is waterproof, pet-friendly, scratch-resistant, and can be installed above an existing floor. The planks are cork-backed which means that it helps to insulate your floors and reduce noises. This product comes in a variety of wood looks and finishes. Like most new home plans we see, the laundry room is right within reach of the main hub of the home.
In this laundry we installed our Koch Express line in the Camden door and same “Fog” paint used as an accent cabinet in the nearby kitchen. A front-load Maytag laundry pair is ready to tackle the toughest loads of laundry. The most powerful cleaning in the industry with great features like quick wash and sanitize cycles. It also has a 16 Hr Fresh Hold® Option that keeps clean clothes smelling fresh in the washer with an internal fan and intermittent tumbling that circulate air through clothes for up to 16 hours after the wash cycle ends. The guest bathroom vanity (shown below) is the same style as the laundry cabinets. A stylish and seamless double vanity top from our Onyx Collection line is in the “Dove” color.
In the master bathroom we returned to the same cabinet door and finish from the kitchen. A tall linen cabinet offers up a lot of great storage and a separation between the sinks. The vanity tops in this bathroom are also from our Onyx Collection line. This time in the “Cloud” color with a matching walk-in shower system in the same product.
Curious about a molded shower product for your bathroom? Check out this Onyx Collection cultured marble shower with custom wall panels, trim, shelves, corner seat, and window frame! This product is very easy to clean and looks great! Here we includes a low profile curb base on the custom shower pan. Shown in this Quad Cities area home in the Cloud gloss finish with no shower door application. Contact the bathroom design experts at Village Home Stores for a bid on this product made in the USA.

During the holiday season, we love to share recent kitchen designs that are great spaces for entertaining. This week’s featured project is a remodeled Coal Valley, Illinois kitchen that is a holiday hosting dream. This spacious kitchen is perfect for entertaining! A U-shaped kitchen layout with a peninsula and dual-level kitchen island. Plus another wall of pantry, fresh food storage, and display cabinets are also within the same room. Step on in and take a look around with us.
Each corner of the kitchen layout includes a tall cabinet with built-in appliances. As you face the main U-shape layout, the left corner is home to a built in microwave and raised dishwasher (shown below). This kitchen remodel was completed keeping as close to the original layout as possible. Why? These gorgeous floors were already installed and in great condition! The original kitchen included a 15″ wide trash compactor unit. In the new design, we instead installed a built-in KitchenAid ice maker. With a water line already accessible in the neighboring corner for the dishwasher, this revised appliance option is ideal for the existing layout.
In the other corner of the kitchen, we installed a double wall oven unit. This 500 series wall oven includes True Convection options. This provides consistent heating and even cooking to ensure there are no burnt edges or under-cooked centers. The temperature probe delivers accurate measurement of internal temperatures of meats, poultry, and casseroles without needing to open the oven. Built-in appliances in a corner can add a lot of interest in look and function. We love how this layout offers up open landing space for the oven items on each side and behind the user at the island.
Speaking of open counter space, the span connecting the U-shape is wide open for prep, service, or decor. This length of counter can be used so many ways. Make a mess? No problem! Clean up is a breeze because there are no grout lines in the kitchen backsplash. A full height slab of matching “Calacatta Laza” quartz surface is installed keeping a clean and consistent look.
Our quartz surfaces are expertly measured, templated, fabricated, and installed. We can even arrange to have cutouts made for your outlets and switches. In this kitchen design we installed our Radiant switches and outlets in a “Nickel” finish. When you work with a lighting expert at Village Home Stores we can help you to select a complimenting finish for your outlets, switches, and covers. Nothing can rob attention from a beautiful kitchen and backsplash quite like disruptively basic outlets dotting across it. This radiant series dresses up the look of any wall switch or outlet.
The right decor and accents can truly make a space! That is absolutely true in the case of the MacKenzie Childs Courtly Check pattern items displayed throughout this new kitchen. The white on white kitchen provides the perfect backdrop for the playfully patterned collection of this homeowner. Shown below is an iconic checkered teapot resting on a 5 burner gas cooktop centered in the dual-level kitchen island.
When you are making selections for a kitchen design there are so many details to be decided. When you work with Village Home Stores we are with you every step of the way. Our designers can help keep you on track, on budget, and guide your choices all with that final finished vision in mind. One detail that can really chance the look of a counter surface is the edge style that you choose. In this Coal Valley kitchen, an “Ogee” edge style was applied to the counter surfaces.
The profile choice on your counter surfaces can add more curves and edges for light to reflect. In this kitchen design, the island counter surfaces look perfectly highlighted and framed in by the “Ogee” edge. We must also mention that the finished space had another very cute black and white accent piece that is featured front and center in the image below:
That’s Martini and she just loves her new kitchen from Village Home Stores. She makes a cameo in so many of these photos we figured a proper intro was in order. The wall opposite the U-shape is home to a tall pantry cabinet, built in refrigerator, and a pair of refrigerated drawers. The main refrigerator is 48″ wide and the set of refrigerated drawers to the left are 24″ wide.
There is a small extension of base and wall cabinets on the other end. Normally this counter surface would become a drop zone for mail, keys, and charging devices. But we hid all of that in the top drawer out of sight! While we can’t design a kitchen that is resistant to clutter or piles… we can suggest better storage solutions for you!
Of course any painted kitchen looks even brighter when it is illuminated by our bestselling Diode LED tape lighting. In this Coal Valley Quad Cities home we installed the low-profile system in three applications: undercounter lighting, in-cabinet lighting, and above cabinet lighting. The look is amazing and with such a low voltage use, this system is the perfect ambient lighting to leave on as much as you would like!
This project was managed start to finish by Village Home Stores using our Complete Project Management Program. This step-by-step process allows us to keep our remodel customers on track and on budget for their home projects with us. You can learn more about our process and see more in-depth tours of the remodels we are completing in the Quad Cities area by watching our weekly TV show. The cabinetry in this kitchen is from our Koch Cabinetry line in the “Easton” raised panel door and “Ivory” white painted finish. Want to see more of this gorgeous finished kitchen? The cabinet handles are from Jeffery Alexander’s Sullivan series in the “Brushed Pewter” finish. The appliance package is from our KitchenAid line and many of the built-in unites can be ordered in other sizes if needed. Shop our Local Low Price Guaranteed on all appliances online, anytime here at villagehomestores.com For this remodel we did keep the original flooring… but that didn’t stop us from making some big changes to the flow of the room and nearby spaces. We removed an archway that used to divide the kitchen from the nearby sunroom. By removing that section of arched wall, we were able to extend the kitchen peninsula for more storage and seating (see below).
We also removed some walls and doorways for that mentioned sunroom. Now the flow of the social spaces in this home all feels more open and inviting. We can easily picture this kitchen packed with holiday guests. What a stunning space. Our thanks to these amazing customers for choosing to work with us and for allowing us to come pet Martini one last time and snap some photos to share with you. We tend to showcase a lot of our kitchen work here on the blog but… y’all know we do more than that right? We have products for every room in your home and many times find ourselves extending work beyond a kitchen remodel for our clients. Village Home Stores is your Quad Cities area source for kitchen, bath, and more! Yes we can design a beautiful kitchen or bathroom for you but we can also create a dream laundry, craft room, home bar, media room, fitness center, man shed, she shed, mudroom… the list goes on and on. Our latest featured kitchen remodel was really a complete overhaul of the entire back end of this busy Coal Valley, IL home including five other rooms we worked in.
If you haven’t toured the kitchen in this home yet, take a peek here at that tour. We created a stunning custom kitchen that included a home bar and hutch area plus a large walk-in pantry borrowing existing space from the back door rooms of this home. There are now many new finished spaces just outside of the kitchen. Take a look at the first space we finished right inside the garage door entry. This custom-built mudroom bench/locker area was once just some closet space with bi-fold doors. Now it is #mudroomgoals!
This new dropzone stops kid (and grownup) clutter right at the entrance to the home. Plenty of hook storage for backpacks and jackets ad even more hidden away in the tall cabinet to the right. Deep drawers beneath the bench seat open up to reveal the perfect designated space for shoe storage. On the left, the tall cabinet opens to reveal a designated cleaning supply area making this mudroom the ideal hub for all activity with the luxury of so many places to tuck away items out of sight!
Back door dropzones, mudrooms, and benches have become high on top of every wishlist for any busy household. These organized zones of a home are not just for households with young children! Who else among us comes home from work every day with about three totebags (silently raises hand while typing this blog post). Anyone can appreciate a storage situation like this. Press play below to see this busy household get quickly organized once the kids arrive home from school.
Part of the original space across from that mudroom bench was a long laundry room area. This was the original access to the pool out back. Now that we have installed pool access in the new kitchen, we replaced the laundry door with a windowed wall. Real talk: would YOU want pool guests you are entertaining to walk through your laundry room to use your restroom? Didn’t think so. Now this space has been reworked to tackle cleaning, sorting, and pet needs. Separate wall hooks have been installed for suits to hang and there is a whole wall of incredible storage within this laundry room.
The layout of this home is so unique. There are so many angled rooms included in the design which made us think outside of the box when reworking the spaces. In fact, we have reworked this laundry room and even removed some of the sq. ft. yet it still is a better working layout than before. Take a peek at the rendered floorplan below to see the angled areas and how we “sliced” off part of this room to become the pantry space accessed on the kitchen side.
Within the work crews we had in this home, the most talked about specialty cabinet in the whole project wasn’t in the kitchen! These three pullout laundry basket cabinets got a reaction out of everyone who saw them. Who wouldn’t love the option to sort and stash laundry within reach but out of sight? Ask you Village cabinet designer about including one of these in your laundry room or bathroom design.
The cabinetry in this space was an extension of the same style and color of the accents in the kitchen we installed. However, the hardware in the laundry room was the only area we switched from the brushed gold antique brass look to a brushed nickel finish in the same size and style. We also changed counter surfaces for this room. It may look like we installed granite here… but this is a Formica top folks!
The Formica 180FX series offers our clients an incredible large-format printed design on an affordable surface we have been familiar with for years. You get the look of luxury at a fraction of the cost. This pattern is called “Cafe Azul” and you can see large samples of it and many more options in our Geneseo, IL showroom. Another very special family member named “George” got his own new feature in this laundry room rework too. An Invisible Fence Brand dog door was installed below the new window accessing the backyard. His collar unlocks the door when he approaches so it can open and close only for him. Press play below to see it in action.
As we mentioned before, yes we remodel bathrooms just as efficiently as kitchens! It’s just a different process and checklist. This back hallway powder room got a whole new look and a slightly different layout. Did you know that Village Home Stores can also work on your interior doors and trim during your remodel? We carefully partnered with this client to keep a consistent stain color from the back door through many rooms into the new great room. A pocket door can be a wonderful selection for small spaces. In this angled space, eliminating a door swing helps to keep the high-traffic area open.
The powder room received different cabinetry from the rest of the rooms. Here we installed a Bertch Bath vanity and tall linen cabinet. Each were ordered with tapered legs for a more furniture look. The Northrope Alder style in a “Mocha” stain is paired with a 2 1/2″ thick Venecia cultured marble top. Bertch Bath is a nationally distributed vanity company and is manufactured not to far from us in Waterloo Iowa! Village is always excited to partner with brands local to us to eliminate high fuel/freight charges to you and to make availability and lead-times more efficient for you.
But of course your eye was drawn to this painted floor tile right? The most eye-catching feature in this powder room is this StonePeak Palazzo Florentina tile. Power rooms are an excellent space for this farmhouse/painted tile trend because they are a small space that you want a big style impact in. This is a huge trend on Instagram and Pinterest with no signs of slowing down in the next few years. As an added bonus, this tile gets you the look with fewer grout lines. These are not individual 6″ grid tiles as they appear with the pattern, instead these are 12″ x 24″ large-format tiles. Ask a tile expert at Village about all of our options in panted tiles!
Built ins, media rooms, and home entertainment centers were a huge cabinet category beginning in the late 80’s. As TV’s have evolved in size, shape and thickness, many homes in the Quad Cities area are ready for a new solution for their home entertainment areas. This area was reworked and a custom TV cabinet was ordered to match the Knotty Alder cabinetry of the kitchen that is right within sight of the great room.
Just like our availability to handle the doorways and trim in your home, we also can rework your stair rail systems! We removed the original oak spindles and replaced everything with this new saddle-stained wood and wrought iron combination. New flooring was also installed in the great room, front entry, and dining room.
A balanced blend of medium-to-dark Hickory woodgrains pull out and compliment all of the new cabinetry and the furniture in these spaces. This is a 3/4″ solid Hickory floor from our Paramount Barnwood series in the “Rustic Beam” color. With so many woods and finishes surrounding these floors, selecting one with many colors included is a fantastic choice to help bring everything together.
At the center of this large great room we installed a carpet inlay. This large carpeted area helps to reduce sound and adds comfort (as modeled below by George). This is the Symphony carpet series in the “Swing” color. Our DreamWeaver carpet is a solution-dyed carpeting and comes in so many styles and colors. Solution-dyed carpet fibers mean that the color is permanent! It can’t fade and resists coloring from soiling! More great news for George is that he can’t end up “in the doghouse” because this carpet is available with lifetime pet urine resistance! It also comes with a number of 25 year guarantees like a 25 year guarantee of abrasive wear, texture retention, fade resistance, soil resistance and more!
While you are lounging in this newly remodeled great room don’t forget to look up! These cathedral ceilings had original wood panels and a center beam as a feature. We had our carpentry team revisit the wood ceiling to secure loose panels and we wrapped the beam with found barnwood. The barnwood was custom stained to compliment the new cabinetry in the home. Iron brackets cover the seams of the barnwood and the lighting and fan were updated as well.
Speaking of lighting updates, the dining room got a new look just by changing some of the surfaces and adding new lights. The “Pembroke” series by ELK Lighting is a stunning transitional style that looks right at home in many rooms. A six-light chandelier and two wall sconces were installed in the “Antique Brass” finish. We also extended the Hickory Rustic Beam hardwood into this dining room connecting the spaces all as one concept.
We just filmed this home for an upcoming epsiode of The Village Home Show that will soon air in the Quad Cities viewing area on Sundays at 10am on WQAD. We can’t wait to give you a more in-depth look at the start-to-finish remodel story. To see more of this finished project plus before and after comparisons, head over here to our Houzz profile to view the project we added. Ready for your own before and after remodel story? Just reach out to our team to get started. You can call us at (309) 944-1344 or complete this short online form on our website. Our showroom is open to the public but we encourage making an appointment to be certain you can get all of your questions answered. Village Home Stores is located at 105 S State in Downtown Geneseo, IL and we are open Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm and Saturdays from 9am-noon or by appointment. We can’t wait to hear what you are working on!
This Coal Valley Illinois kitchen just got a whole new look and layout! We made functional changes (like that new view and access to the pool shown below) and updated the look and style of the entire main level of this home. Custom Rustic Alder cabinetry from our Four Acre Amish cabinetry line is stained in a “Saddle” finish and accented kitchen island and hutch are finished with a “Light Pewter” paint. Accents of brushed gold metals, an incredible KitchenAid appliance package, and gorgeous Cambria countertops complete the look.
We moved the walk-out access to the backyard down closer to the pool view, and replaced the original window with a new wet bar. Two original peninsulas were replaced with a new custom hutch section. The new look is open, bright, and very stylish! Work was needed in this kitchen, the adjacent dining and living rooms, and entire back area of the home. That is a lot to tackle when you are also living in the home. These amazing customers called us and the complete start-to-finish Project Management team at Village Home Stores got to work for them.
There is such a transformation to the entire main level of this home that there is no way we could walk you through everything here on the blog… so instead we taped a full 1/2 hr. episode of our weekly TV show about this remodel story! Stay tuned for it to air very soon at our new time Sunday mornings at 10am on WQAD News Channel 8 ABC. In the meantime, check out this short video we made documenting some of the process. Press play below to see this kitchen and back door area transform!
Now that you have seen what it took to get to this stunning space, let’s take a closer look around at the details, materials, and design that give us this amazing end result. We replaced the U-shaped island obstacle with a long, rectangle island design with overhang on the back for counter-height stools. The refrigerator moved to a new location and the long, range wall became the featured focal point in the kitchen section of this design.
The large scale of the KitchenAid commercial 48″ wide dual fuel range is repeated with a custom wood hood above it. The cabinetry surrounding the range is symmetrical with staggered depths and heights in the upper cabinets. What a dream space to get to work preparing a meal! Concealed within that large mantle hood cabinet is a Broan blower insert so that there is proper ventilation when the cooktop or griddle is in use.
One of the benefits to purchasing from our custom Amish-built cabinetry lines is the ability to build sections of cabinets as one unit. Instead of this hood arriving at the jobsite as many cabinets and a lot of trim pieces, it arrives already assembled and finished just as you see it here. Our carpenters just had to install it and trim off the top with crown molding. The end result for you is a custom, seamless look and feel.
This range will certainly be the envy of any serious home chef! A dual fuel KitchenAid range with combined oven capacity of 6.3 cu.ft. and a 6-burner gas cooktop and chrome electric griddle on top. Dual fuel means you get the benefits of electric baking in the oven cavities and the immediate control of a gas cooktop above. Shop all of our incredible cooking appliances with our Local Low Price Guarantee at villagehomestores.com
Who wouldn’t love to have a griddle integrated into a cooking zone like this? This even-heat chrome griddle offers a great cooking performance for this household and has an easy-to-clean surface. That means pancakes on a Sunday morning doesn’t mean cleaning up after pancakes all Sunday afternoon. There is no seasoning required for the griddle, and the chrome allows you to never have any flavor transfers from meal to meal. If you were able to contain your envy about the range, cover your eyes and ears when we point out the pot-filler faucet right above the cooktop.
Many magazine-cover kitchens include this wall faucet feature. For those who truly use their kitchens, this decorative feature is also highly functional! Imagine filling a pasta pot with water right at the cooktop. Or adding water to used pots and pans to soak for a bit before washing. We also designed this cooking zone to be functional during the cooking process with amazing storage surrounding it. Large pots and pans drawers are found on this wall as well as two pullout cabinets surrounding the range.
A 12″ pullout spice rack on the left side of the range and a 12″ pullout utensil storage cabinet on the right. We have installed many of these utensil cabinets this year and they are such a great specialty cabinet! Instead of mining through a wide or deep drawer of utensils, see everything in these organized bins and grab what you need. We also love that the lower shelf in this cabinet can be used for large containers and bottles.
Of course in any busy kitchen the island becomes the place to gather. With a new flow to this kitchen layout, the new island offers a space to casually eat, clean up, and even prepare foods. The island has a furniture style look with an accented “Light Pewter” painted finish and legs at each corner.
The backside of the island appears to be a custom wainscot panel… but there is storage hidden under that overhang! Each cabinet opens to reveal shelf storage for small appliances, serving trays, and seasonal items. We have found that some customers prefer storage hidden beneath an area like this, instead of an extra shelf on top of the wall cabinets that require a stepstool or ladder to reach.
The kitchen island countertop surface is the best place to showcase the Cambria Quartz that was selected for this new kitchen. The Brittanicca Warm design gives a warm white background and dove grays vein through it for a marble look. The look of marble with the worry-free piece of mind that this surface can hold up to these kids and adults using the kitchen.
From YouTube-curious slime-making kids, to red-wine spilling guests, it’s no problem! We also installed outlets on each end of the kitchen island because kitchen islands are also multi-tasking spaces like home offices, homework stations, as well as food prep areas. In this kitchen, the island is also home to the microwave drawer, sink, and dishwasher.
Our designer at Village Home Stores included a lower drawer sink base cabinet. This gives plenty of space in the cabinet for plumbing and also a shallow drawer for cleaning supplies below. The undermounted sink in this kitchen is an e-granite composite material with a low center divider. Why a low divider? When was the last time you actually filled up your entire sink with water?
This alternative low-divider sink layout allows those who don’t soak dishes a wider space for washing larger items and pans with handles. Even with all of these new cabinets, you can never have enough pantry space when you have lots of kids and entertain large groups. We moved the refrigerator from its original location and added a pantry area to the main range wall of the kitchen design.
But that’s not just a 24″ deep pantry cabinet… its a pantry front that opens up to access a walk-in hidden pantry. We framed in an entire new pantry area for this household borrowing space from the laundry room right behind the kitchen. We cut out an opening so it could be accessed from the kitchen and voila! As these kids call it, a “secret room” pantry!
Speaking of the kids, a household with active kids… means piles and clutter right? Not on our watch! We partnered with this couple to design drop zones and storage solutions that these kids can use and grow along with. We will show you the amazing mudroom bench area just around the corner in a future blog feature. In the meantime, check out this kitchen drop zone!
Base cabinet storage designated for school papers and all those water bottles and snack food containers! There is even a way to keep school papers sorted and out of sight. Did you notice the wall here? What’s one way to avoid papers piling up on a counter? Just give the option of a way to pop them up on the wall! We installed a magnetic wall surface here that can help display artwork, calendars, notes, reminders, and more!
The stainless magnetic wall surface nearby keeps the built in refrigerator front looking clean. A dual compressor, French Door layout with Platinum finished interior keep the fresh and frozen foods organized and fresh. Ask an appliance expert at Village Home Stores about the Preserva food system available in most of our refrigerator options.
With a pool just outside of the new kitchen, and a great open concept layout like this of course you are going to find yourself entertaining from time to time. With three kids, even dinner at home as a family is a large crowd. There is a casual kitchen dining table within the new kitchen and a stylish wet bar area right next to it. This bar area allows for a great location for serving drinks or snacks away from the kitchen itself.
A section of glass-door cabinetry offers display for bar ware and glasses and a stacked stone wall surface compliments the stone of the fireplace just around the corner. This bar also includes a customer favorite (and all these kids admitted their favorite) built-in icemaker from KitchenAid.
Uniformly shaped ice cubes ideal for everyday applications. Clear Ice technology allows for a more attractive drink presentation and a slower melt rate! So that means less watered-down drinks for you! This panel-ready model and nearby paneled drawer appliances give the clean look of a row of cabinets, with great appliance features hidden in plain sight.
Those two drawers on the end are actually an appliance as well! The top is a refrigerator drawer full of snack items and kids beverages. The bottom drawer is a freezer full of popsicles and frosty mugs! Just steps from the pool, this bar area is a favorite for all ages!
A single well bar sink is also located in this bar area. The sink is the same material and color as the kitchen island sink and another Delta faucet is installed in a brushed brass/gold finish. That same gold accent is found in the home decor, lighting, and cabinet hardware of this design.
That same champagne brushed brass accent is repeated in the cabinet hardware. “Merrick” handles from our Hardware Resources line look great against the painted finishes and the woodgrain of the Rustic Alder cabinets.
The area that used to be two awkward peninsulas, is now a gorgeous hutch in a painted accent finish. Glass-front cabinets with X-mullions are lighted from within as well as an open shelf section in the center. These shelves will be so much fun to decorate throughout the year! Each glass-door cabinet stretches down to the countertop surface and a drawer allows another place to stash items away and out of sight.
Speaking of away and out of sight, how about this peninsula section packed with the kids crafting, coloring, and homework supplies! There is also an outlet (see below) with USB charging hubs right here for phone, tablet, and laptop access.
This custom hutch will also be available when entertaining as another area to gather or even serve food and beverages from. Our Diode LED tape lighting helps this kitchen design look great day and night. This low-voltage system is a customer favorite. Imagine how warm and inviting this hutch must look glowing at night!
