Master Bathroom remodels can be such a wonderful investment in your home. While a kitchen remodel is something you AND your guests can enjoy together, a master bath is more of a treat to yourself to enjoy every single day. Bath remodels can be a fantastic way to update a home just by simply replacing fixtures and finishes. Take a look at this dream of a bath retreat we just completed in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Do you have a large Jacuzzi-style tub sitting in your Master Bath that you never use? Well you are NOT the only home in the Quad Cities in that category. This home did too. Over the past few years we have removed so many of these large tubs to make space for a better design and practical tub design for our customers. The original tub in this Bettendorf home was so large it barely ever was used because it could fill and keep water hot long enough to enjoy it. Plus like many we take out, it had a lovely carpeted step up to access it. Look at the before photo of this large tub.
And now we have taken that large out and created a spacious and stylish new tub area. The Kohler Stargaze freestanding tub is stylish and far more practical size for fill and use. Keeping the space open around the tub and installing floating shelves above it, allows the area to feel open but not uncomfortably large. The Stargaze tub has a centered drain and the Dryden series of fixtures from Delta are installed for the tub and shower.
The original bathroom already had a large tiled shower area in the corner. A polished brass shower surround was installed right up to the Jacuzzi tub surround in the old design. While there was plenty of space in the original shower, there wasn’t a great area for toiletry storage. Take a look at the original shower area in this image below.
And now we have created a new tiled shower space with an updated look and added shelf storage. By building a short kneewall to separate the tub area from the shower, we created a wall surface on the tub side for panels. On the interior shower side of that wall we built in a tiled shelf niche for storage. Shower toiletries are right in reach of the user but out of sight for anyone else.
A custom glass shower surround is installed in the new design with a ledge of Cambria Quartz on top of the kneewall. The quartz is the Berwyn Design. A classic neutral choice that compliments all of the other surface selections in the new bathroom space so well. We also love the installation of a robe hook within the tiled shower. This shower area is large enough to keep your towel or robe within the shower and not get wet from the shower controls.
Having your robe or towel within reach of the shower is a great luxury and so is warm tile on your bare feet once you exit the shower. As our adorable model shows us below, this stylish new flooring is comfortable as well with a heated tile system beneath it.
The tile in this bathroom is from the Simply Modern series in the “Coffee” color. 12″ x 24″ tiles are the main bathroom floor and 2″ x 2″ tiles create the shower floor and entry. The shower walls are a tile from the Paramount New York series in the “Greenwich Village” color.
Our expert bathroom remodel team will work closely with you and our tile department to select accessories, decide layout, and discuss location for all the details of your new tiled shower. The existing bathroom vanity in this home was painted a fresh bright white and a new counter, faucets, and vanity bowls were installed. Cambria Quartz in the Berwyn design adds sprakle and shine to this vanity area.
Our carpentry crews are skilled to not only install cabinetry and hardware, but also trim, moldings, millwork and other wood details for your space. The crew at this home created a customized wainscot panel design surrounding the lower half of the entire room. The completed and painted paneling really takes the space to a designer level and adds such a great look.
This Master Bath was already so spacious and now it is extremely stylish. To see the full album of images from this bath remodel click here to visit our Houzz portfolio. Who remodels bathroom in the Quad Cities Area? We do? But what if you don’t need it fully gutted and rearranged? Still us! Village Home Stores is in the business of helping you make the most out of every room in your home. Many bathroom and kitchen layouts are already very functional designs, they just need a new look. Our expert remodel team is definitely here to help. Updating your home can add to it’s value and appeal. In this Bettendorf home, we gave an oak and brass Master Bath a new classic look.
Marble look quartz in the Calacatta Classique color is such a classic and transitional choice. Marble has proven for centuries that it will never go out of style. Quartz counters in a bathroom are an ideal choice. Here you get the look of marble, but no worries if anything spills or leaks onto the tops. Quartz is also heat resistant so hair appliances won’t scorch or melt the surface if they come in contact with it. The shower area also received an updated look:
What a difference a new shower door system can make! From heavy, brass framework, to a more open and airy look, the new shower area seems larger without changing in size at all. And now for the main event: the double vanity area. Any Master Bath with two users can always plead it’s case for having two vanity sinks. But this bathroom has us convinced that the pendant lighting trend in bathrooms is also a great choice! We love the use of two framed mirrors and a light above each bowl area.
Vanity cabinetry from our Dura Supreme line in the “Kendall” door and painted “Latte” finish creates a soothing neutral color choice. Latte may be a beige paint at first glance, but when browsing finish selections it really falls within the warm white/taupe category. Selecting a lighter neutral paint cabinet to pair with a marble look top can be a great way to keep a space seem smaller. There are still so many varieties of colors in the veining of a marble top, and of course flooring to tie into the overall look. You don’t need a dark paint or stain for a rich look.
This bathroom feature also brought a fun detail to our attention. How versatile the Downtown Series of lighting by Kichler is! These same pendants hang in our showroom above a kitchen island display. We have installed them at countless projects used as everything from a single foyer light, to kitchen lighting, and now in a bathroom space. The same light. In the same scale and size. Used in many varieties of styled spaces. Now that is the very definition of Transitional Style. See the same lights here in a past blog feature of a kitchen remodel in a historic home. Did you know that you can shop all of our lighting catalogs online, anytime?
We have an award-winning lighting showroom full of a variety of lighting styles and trends. Even so, there is just no way we can show the hundreds of thousands of options available. Shop lighting here on our website and use filters to help narrow your search. Find the light you love and get the very best service available before and after your purchase. We match online lighting prices if needed. Trust us when we say that you want to purchase your lighting from an expert lighting showroom like Village. If warranty or shipping issues arise, we are ready to get to work for you to make it right!
We also gave a new look to the tub surround area of the bathroom. A panel was ordered in the same style and finish as the new vanity. This panel gives a totally new refresh to the existing tub area! Ask your designer at Village Home Stores what they recommend for your current space. We know our team can create a new vision for your space but sometimes it can be hard for clients to understand it. That is why we will present fully rendered design drawings to help you visualize the new space before any materials are even ordered. It is an important part of our remodel process and provides you, the client, peace of mind that we have a vision for your home.

One of the best things about being in our industry is that every single project we work on is different from the next. Even when kitchen and bath trends are put into action, the applications are always different because no space is the same. Village Home Stores has the great privilege of placing our designs and products in new and existing homes in the extended Quad Cities Region and we love each project we complete. We normally don’t admit it when we have favorites… but this week’s featured remodel story in Bettendorf, Iowa is one of our favorites fromf the year for sure!
This Bettendorf, Iowa customer found Village Home Stores by catching our weekly television show that airs every Sunday at 9am on WQAD. On the Village Home Show we are able to showcase remodel stories from right here in the Quad Cities area. So when this family was ready, they knew who to call. The original oak cabinetry layout really divided the kitchen from the dining and living spaces. There is a beautiful outside pool area just steps away from the kitchen in this home. With the peninsula in place, it was a long voyage to the kitchen sink from the pool.
We were so thrilled with the ideas they came to us with for a more open concept kitchen. When we say that the kitchen is the hub of the home, this household is a great example of that. With access to lofted living room and the backyard pool retreat, this new kitchen design needed to be functional and stylish. We began by removing the original kitchen… but kept one main element in place to help save some cost to the clients.
This kitchen has been given a whole new look but we kept the original tile floors! That’s right! Because the tile flooring was installed before the original kitchen cabinets went in, there was no void left when we tore out the kitchen peninsula. A new knee-wall was installed with power for island outlets. Take one more look at the original oak kitchen with the peninsula + table layout….
…and now the kitchen absorbs the dining space into one cohesive look. In fact, the kitchen and dining spaces are now joined into one concept by an incredible and versatile island design. The overall space has been brightened up significantly with lighter, airy material selections, added lighting, and the installation of mirror in some cabinetry.
A large kitchen island is the centerpiece to the new open concept. On the end near the backyard access, a custom table has been placed at dining height. We designed the dining table to be placed right next to the kitchen island. However, the table can be moved out if needed. A custom wood base was built for this design by our carpentry team and our painters painted it to compliment the kitchen cabinetry and trim.
A gorgeous wood top from our Craft-Art line was secured on top of the base. With the main kitchen cabinetry all in painted finishes, a woodgrain was a welcomed element. The Black Walnut plank-style wood top adds warmth and an upscale texture to the space. We think its is best complimented with the warm backslash tile glowing with our undercabinet lighting system.
Can’t find the right table to match your new kitchen from Village? Let us make one for you to ensure that it lines up with the overall design concept! Finding the right size and finish can be tricky. But rest assured, we can build just about anything you can dream up. This rich, smooth Black Walnut top was given a stylish and classic “Ogee” edge profile. The feel and sheen of these wood tops are truly heirloom quality. Learn more about these wood tops here in a previous post.
Even though this wood top is a showstopper, the Cambria Quartz in this kitchen is not to be ignored. Take a peek at this image below showing the remodel while it was still in progress. Notice that a piece of Cambria was installed on the cooktop wall for a dramatic look.
This statement wall creates a dramatic contrast of a marble look on the wall with a graphic black hood as an eye-catching continuation from the dark base cabinets. In fact, the Cambria Britannica Warm Quartz seems to almost cascade down behind the hood, flow up from the floor, over the kitchen island, and pour back down again on the other side.
Of course a glassy, gloss finish in a bright space always adds a great upscale detail. This Cambria design includes warm gray veining and is a classic compliment to the dark appliances and painted base cabinetry. A new approach to a two tone kitchen, dark painted bases with a bright and airy upper cabinet in a separate finish. Many times this trend is installed with open or floating shelves for the upper cabinetry. But in this design, we wanted to provide as much usable storage as possible.
The use of mirrors in some of the wall cabinetry does add a lighter weight to the look of the upper cabinets. The “X” design in the cabinet door is an updated and more Transitional style detail. We love the way mirrors help to brighten up a room (plus conceal the cabinet interior).
Quartz in a marble look is a great choice for a busy kitchen and large island work surface like this. Cambria Quartz in the Brittanicca Warm design offers a classic look of a marble with a maintenance-free advantage. The island countertop has a standard “Eased” edge applied to it to maintain a cleaner installation and look with the waterfalling edge.
Curious about waterfall edges? Stop by our showroom in Downtown Geneseo and see our front desk area that showcases this look. Village Home Stores offers many departments all under one roof to make the entire selection process easier on you and your designer. We encourage you to come with any ideas you have collected during your research phase but also take a look around and inside all of our cabinetry displays. We offer so many specialty cabinets and can show them to you. Our Dura Supreme line of cabinetry is loaded with so many great options! This kitchen of includes great sliding shelf storage but also a mixer lift cabinet right in the island.
See more of this entire kitchen in detail over on our Best of Houzz-winning Portfolio. See the full album of images here. We also installed a spice pullout, lazy susan, and an auto-open waste basket! Press play below to watch the waste basket cabinet open with just a nudge.
Matte Black is one of our favorite home trends and this kitchen rocks the trend so well! The soft, rich look of Dura Supreme’s painted “Graphite” finish on the base cabinetry pairs so well with KitchenAid’s Black Stainless Steel finish appliances. Black Stainless is not just for super contemporary spaces. This Transitionally-styled space is proof of that. Plus it is fingerprint resistant!
KitchenAid was the first in their industry to launch a Black Stainless Steel finish and the look is sophisticated. But a KitchenAid kitchen is at it’s best when in use! A counter-depth French Door refrigerator includes incredible fresh and frozen food storage. A 30″ Combination Wall Oven and Microwave has so many features and a large capacity when needed. Another great appliance detail in this kitchen is the undercounter 15″ Ice Maker. What an absolute dream for anyone who entertains! Of course when you have a pool… people tend to show up.
This 15″ automatic ice maker produces ice that is perfect for every occasion. It opens to reveal a storage bin that can hold up to 25 pounds of ice. Next to the Ice Maker we installed a beverage cooler with a custom panel to match the cabinetry. This kept the beverage area of the new kitchen looking symmetrical. Panel-ready appliances can be a wonderful custom option. We offer them in many refrigerator and dishwasher options. We kept the original tile floors in the kitchen but a new tile backsplash was installed.
3″ x 12″ textured tiles in “New Yorker” series and “Taupe” color. We love how they almost have the appearance of being underwater with their texture and reflection. Our stylish adorne series of switches and outlets from legrand looks great on the tile in a contrasting color and matte finish.
The square design of this series looks great and is very versitile with options. Since sart home tech is at the top of every homeowner and homebuyer’s wishlist we should also mention this kitchen lighting system takes voice commands! Using the legrand app and connected to an amazon Alexa, we had a lot of fun testing out this new product. Press play below to watch a Facebook live video we taped at this completed jobsite to see how easy it is to use voice commands with this adorne system.
Smart home tech has reached the kitchen industry in a big way over the last few years and this year even more products are set to launch to make your life easier and more enjoyable. This homeowner was able to connect many of the lighting switches in the home and now can even switch lights off and on when they are away from home using the app.
We have completed many new spaces using the adorne series from legrand. These outlet covers are a perfect match to the painted Graphite cabinetry in this kitchen. They match so well that our “hidden” pop-up outlet in the island is totally camouflaged when it isn’t in use.
A hands-free waste basket cabinet, voice-controlled lighting, and even a wave-controlled kitchen faucet! There is just so much from this kitchen remodel story it is almost impossible to showcase it all here on the blog. We hope to film an upcoming episode of the Village Home Show to show you more of these great features in action.

We are not just beautiful kitchen remodels. Since the launch of our Full Project Management Program, we have gained quite the reputation for becoming a reliable, time-efficient, and customer-focused choice in the Quad Cities region for full bathroom remodels as well! This Moline, IL Master Bathroom is our featured project this week because it includes many items that top wishlists of all our bath remodel customers. Take a look at this elegant Master Bathroom:
Of course a lot of counter space and two sinks are a priority in any Master Bathroom design. This Moline bath had a generous amount of wall space available for the vanity area. Our designer from Village Home Stores included as much drawer storage as possible from our Dura Supreme line of cabinetry. The Full-Overlay Craftsman door was selected in a rich Cherry wood and “Peppercorn” finish. What does Full-Overlay mean? Take a look at the image below and notice the small gaps between the doors and drawers:
Traditional overlay would leave gaps about 2-3 times larger that what you see here. In a Full Overlay style (like shown), those gaps are minimal. This Gives your doors and drawers more space to spread across the faceframe of the cabinet openings behind them. Full overlay styles also help to hide the seams of cabinets when you install them in a long row like we have done here. It is hard to tell where each individual cabinet begins and ends. One jaw-dropping material choice in this Master Bath is the Cambra Quartz design selection. “Ellesmere” is a rich and sparkling blend of so many colors and it looks right at home in this Master Suite.
In fact Ellesmere has some of the same colors the original bathroom had. Rich gold metallics and vibrant earthtones. On the subject of the original bathroom design, that brings us back to that customer wishlist. In the past few years we have removed so many large Jacuzzi tubs from Master Bathrooms. Clients found that this trend as not as practical for their lifestyle. Instead we are often asked to present a solution that borrows that space for something else. Sometimes this is a closet, a smaller tub with more room for a shower, or even a storage bench.
Because 9 times out of 10 these giant soaking tubs were installed beneath a large window area, bench seating really does look perfect there. In this bathroom we created a space matching the same Cherry “Peppercorn” cabinetry and ordered a wood top to match. A custom cushion is already on order for this bench. Yes it looks cool but look at all those drawers! With two walk-in closets already in the room, these drawers can be used for linen storage or toiletries.
Above the original tub are there was a hanging crystal chandelier. The new light fixture included in the Master Bath is an updated take on a traditional chandelier. This orb light by Feiss takes a modern light style and adds sparkle on the interior of the polished nickel metal. We have installed this same light this year into bedrooms, foyers, and even above kitchen islands. Come see sparkle it in person because we have two hanging above our Appliance Sales desk as well in the showroom!
The shower area also saw many updates to give a more bright and open look. You don’t need a gigantic amount of space to include a lot of features into a custom tiled shower. This 3-wall alcove is proof of that. Take a peek at the before and after images below:
Dual shower heads and now tiled all the way to the ceiling, this tiled shower looks great! A custom glass shower door includes a fixed panel of glass on the right and a hinged entry door on the left. Dated polished brass fixtures were replaced with bright polished chrome for the shower and faucet finishes.
A short step up and into the tiled shower is trimmed off nicely with metallic strips at the edges. The Phenix Ravello series of tile was used throughout the bathroom. A 13″ x 13″ “Champagne” tile was installed as the main bathroom floor and on the shower walls. A smaller 2″x 2″ “Pearl” tile was used as the shower base.
A decorative row of tile was selected to tie together the wall tile and the Cambria counters on the nearby vanity. This geometric tile from Glazzio’s Hexagon series is a perfect pairing! The Tranquil colors bring in the wall and floor tile and also compliment the cabinet and quartz colors!
Of course the best part about creating a custom tiled shower with our clients is customizing it with them! Adding niches, benches, and shelves are a great way to add practical elements that can look great too! This shower showcases a glass corner shelf added up within reach of the shower user. This can be a great shelf for toiletries or razors. We also added a corner bench/footrest below that.
Perfect for more toiletries or resting a leg while shaving. We even added a strip of accent tile to the front face of the shelf for another little custom detail. Great designs really are made with detail choices like that. Beautiful spaces are really created by layers of details. Who would want a basic white lightswitch to distract from all of these other stunning choices? Our Adorne series by legrand is far from basic! This series of wall switches and outlets offer an updated look and so many color combination possibilities! Contact a lighting expert at Village today to learn more.
Steve’s Mirror & Glass created the shower door entry as well as the the custom mirror that hangs above the vanity. They also provided beveled mirror outlet covers to surround the Adorne outlets on the vanity mirror. A great customized look!
This Moline, IL bathroom remodel turned out amazing! And it isn’t even complete yet! That custom bench seat cushion is on it’s way and soon a gorgeous metallic faux finish wall treatment will be applied to the walls. Are you ready to start the conversation about your own bathroom remodel with Village Home Stores? You can contact our bath remodel team at (309) 944-1344 or by completing this short online form. We can’t wait to hear what you are working on.
Just in time for harvest in the Midwest, this week’s remodel feature is a tailored and updated take on country charm. Who says having a house and some acreage means all the best things should happen outside? While the kitchen in this Geneseo, IL rural home boasts some incredible views outside the windows, the view is pretty great in here! Take a look at this bright and cheerful new kitchen remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores.
White painted cabinetry, marble-look tops, stainless appliances, and soft blue-gray finishes give a refreshing new look to the space. A kitchen layout with lots of new storage and counter space greets you from the back door as well as this (above) view in from a pass-through window to the Living Room. But even with these great windows, the kitchen wasn’t always this bright and storage-focused. Like many homes over the years, the kitchen had evolved into a need for more storage space and new locations for appliances.
When working with a kitchen design expert at Village Home Stores you will help to qualify what layout and specialty cabinets will be the best way to utilize the space that you have available. In this kitchen we did not remove any walls or even soffits above. Instead, we accessed the locations of the major appliances and even found room for a dishwasher in the new design. The before and after transformation of this corner gives you an idea of how a clean, consistent depth cabinet layout can keep so much stored out of sight and free up tons of counter space.
The corner at the opposite end of the U-shaped kitchen was another area to be addressed. In the original space a small tiled landing zone was set up next to a crowded range area by the back door entry to the kitchen. That made the space feel cramped and crowded to the user at the cooktop. A tiled wall is great… but if you have ever had to keep a tiled countertop wiped clean you know it can be a constant struggle with the grout lines. There was also no storage in the base area of that corner.
The new kitchen design creates a landing zone as a forward-facing drop zone area. A wall cabinet above and a standard base cabinet and drawer below plus a wall outlet from our legrand radiant collection that is fit with USB charging ports. A strip of our diode LED tape lights illuminates the drop zone and new quartz countertops perfectly. This new kitchen features our Koch Classic Cabinetry line in a beaded doorstyle named Orleans that has been painted with a White finish.
A painted white cabinet, light counters, and a whole new lighting plan makes the new kitchen very bright. Press play below to see a 360 degree view of this Geneseo farmhouse kitchen and everything we fit into it. That’s a lot of storage and open counter space!
Did you notice we even fit a tall pantry into the room? Pantry cabinets can be such a functional investment even if you can’t fit a 24″ deep one in. The original kitchen had a single wall cabinet and shelves set up below the pass-through window.
The new kitchen now includes this tall pantry cabinet 12″ deep and 30″ wide. The top door section of the pantry has a finished interior and the doors have glass inserts for a display area. You would be so thrilled at the amount of storage a single cabinet like this can offer you. If you have an unused wall in your kitchen, nearby hallway, or even dining space it may be a great location for a shallow pantry. Crown molding on top gives it a finished look and the tall doors of this pantry are the best doors to showcase the beaded, cottage style center panels.
In the new layout, the range location has been swapped with the refrigerator for a more functional use of the kitchen space. You can see the drop zone mentioned previously to the left of the refrigerator. A narrow cabinet to the right designates an area for baking sheets and cutting boards in the new plan.
A full depth model from Whirlpool was used because walkway distances were not an issue with no kitchen island in this plan. In fact, this full depth model has a total of 25 cu. ft. of storage space including gallon door bins and a full-width temperature controlled deli drawer. There is even an interior water dispenser inside the refrigerator. That keeps the front of the french door refrigerator smooth and stylish. Oh and did we mention this Stainless finish by Whirlpool resists fingerprints and smudges and easily wipes clean?!?!
The other appliances are pretty incredible in style and function as well. The new cooking zone of the kitchen is now located on the longest wall between the windows. Wall cabinets frame in a microwave hood also from Whirlpool. This amazing microwave model includes and Whirlpool’s innovative new Scan-to-Cook Technology.
What is Scan-to-Cook Technology? Sounds like something out of the Jetsons right? Well with a connected Whirlpool appliance, it’s honestly is exactly as easy as scanning and then pressing start! These connected “smart” appliance features are available on many new Whirlpool appliances making them affordable AND keeping your kitchen activity simpler and easier. Press play below to learn more about the Scan-to-Cook feature available on select microwaves and ranges.
A slide-in front-control electric range sits below with landing space on each side of it. This makes the cooking zone ideal for users during prep and cooking activity. So much space and just steps from pantry storage, fresh food storage in the refrigerator and the kitchen sink to the right. We love how these front-control range designs leave the back area where the cooktop meets the wall clear for tile.
The light from all the kitchen windows pours in to surround the cooking zone in the new design. We admit we would get caught daydreaming out of this kitchen sink window about a million times a day if we lived here. We love how the tiled backsplash carries up the wall to surround the window frame. A custom and charming detail.
The marble-look countertops in this kitchen are the Swanbridge design by Cambria Quartz. Manufactured in the USA, Cambria quartz is an ideal kitchen surface. It is foodsafe, stain and heat resistant and there are so many incredible designs to select from in both glossy and matte finishes. Learn more about Cambria Quartz and our recent visit to the Minnesota facilities here in a past blog post. By sticking with a classic, a subtle countertop pattern, a more bold choice of wall tile could be used.
The 3 x 6 subway tile from Glazzio’s Lumiere Series is amazing and the Eiffel Grey color has a faint cottage blue tint to it. Installing it in a herringbone pattern with contrasting grout lines is the perfect choice for a stylish statement. White switches and outlets from our legrand Radiant collection keep the backsplash area looking great (and notice no visible screws).
Of course you know we can’t feature a great tiled kitchen wall without pointing out that our bestselling Diode LED tape lighting is why it looks so great! There is no better investment to insure you love your new kitchen day and night for many years than this lighting system. Every customer who installs it is shocked t how much they love it. Plus it is low-voltage and dimmable so you can leave it one a lot without high energy use. We even installed it inside the section of wall cabinets shown below.
What a stunning look and what a transformation!
We added a ledge piece of Cambria Swanbridge quartz to act as a “sill” for this pass-through window. Repeating the countertop product in a new use helps to bridge the two spaces together. Ready for anything, this durable product is a great choice.
The view above is looking fro the Living Room into the new finished kitchen. We love how the view looking in is framed up so perfectly by this pass-through window. Such an inviting space! Want to see more of this kitchen? The full album of photos can be found here over on our award-winning Houzz page. There you can save our ideas into your own ideabooks so you can show your designer at Village Home Stores what you would like to try with your own design.
