Koch cabinetry in the “Bristol” door and “Ivory” paint are installed as the main cabinets in the kitchen. A Rustic Beech island in the “Stone” finish replaces what used to be a peninsula in the kitchen. Like many old homes in our area, this kitchen had lots of doorways and openings to work around when space-planning for the new cabinetry. We think this design truly makes a great use of the available. Press play below to take a short video tour around.

As we mentioned, a lot of the work for this renovation was done by the homeowners on their own. We think they did a great job. The new design includes one main wall of cabinetry that has the refrigerator and cooking zone within it. There were many sections to be closed off and reworked as many major elements in the space were relocated. But the result of all that hard work is a bright and beautiful new kitchen to enjoy!

A peninsula with sink is replaced with an island that now runs parallel to the main wall. The sink and dishwasher are found in the new rustic beech wood island. The island is a single-level design with an overhang at the back to seat three at stools for casual dining. Outlets hidden underneath the overhang make this island a great spot to work from a laptop or even celebrate the holidays 2020 style with a zoom call with the grandkids.

The kitchen island and perimeter have stunning new quartz counters. This glossy white color has a realistic gray veining pattern. “Calacatta Laza” is available from our MSI line of engineered quartz. Quartz is a durable and stylish surface choice for any kitchen, bathroom, or bar counter application. This time of year we always like to stress that this surface is ideal for holiday baking! It is nonporous and you can even roll out dough and cut right on it!

Speaking of surfaces, how about this wall tile?!? We are obsessed with the color AND application selected by this customer. The “Lifestyle” series from our Original Style line comes in a variety of shapes and colors. This kitchen showcases the “Village Mint” color in a classic subway tile size.

We love the way this gloss tile gives many tones of the same minty seaglass green when the light hits it. We also love the choice to install this tile in a herringbone pattern. But not just any herringbone… this one is turned on its side! Subway tiles are always a classic choice and they are so versatile in how you can use them. Talk to your tile expert at Village Home Stores to come up with the right grout color and installation design for your project.

Village Home Stores loves any opportunity we can get to have our design and products involved in the renovation of an old home. The details and ideas customers have to keep the history of a space alive are as unique as the homes themselves. Example? The thick glass used in the cabinet clerestory doors have a cool storied color and waved textured… because they are the original glass out of the windows removed from this wall of the house! Those windows are gone but in no way forgotten!

The original door and window trim was also kept as a part of the finished space. The floor surface selected helps to marry the warm door and trim wood color to the rustic, cooler kitchen island stain. This floor surface is from our best-selling COREtec luxury vinyl plank line. If you are also looking to find a flooring surface that can help blend warm and cool colors together, this “Sherwood Rustic Pine” color is a great option! Many times we champion the fridge or range on a kitchen feature, but today we want to give a proper shoutout to the dishwasher in this suite. Quiet at just 46 DBA (normal conversation level is at a 50), this dishwasher is one of many available from KitchenAid that include this sleek pocket handle style and a third level rack. The PrintShield Finish on the outside keeps the exterior fingerprint and smudge-resistant. Our appliance team just received (online) training on all of the new 3 rack dishwashers we have available. Ask them any question you may have!

One of the elements of this custom design was making sure the kitchen cabinet crown didn’t cut into the existing window trim casing and corner blocks. As you can see below, it worked out great! And the windows in this home got a new look even with the original trim. Wooden shades were custom ordered in a complimenting painted color to the kitchen cabinets. The new shades have a “top down, bottom up” feature that allows the shade to truly customize it’s location throughout the day. Check out this video over on our TikTok page that shows this feature in action.
