Did you know that Village Home Stores services the entire extended Quad Cities Region? What does that mean exactly? It means that our showroom in Geneseo, IL us really just a short drive away from many cities in the surrounding Illinois and Iowa area. Eldridge Iowa is a wonderful example of one of those cities. In recent years we have had our design and product installed in both new and existing homes there. This week’s feature project is a remodeled Master Bathroom just 35 miles away from our showroom in Eldridge. Take a look at this great new space.
We have replaced the single sink vanity area with a double-bowl layout. Cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the “Bristol” door and Maple wood species. Our bestselling gray neutral “Fog” paint is applied with Satin Nickel Bremen handles. A closet area has been converted to a stylish laundry nook inside the Master Bath. Wall cabinetry hangs above a front-load washer and dryer from our Maytag line. Having laundry located on the main level of a home can be such a convenience! And with these front-loaders now located in the Master Suite of the home, sorting and putting away laundry is just steps from the machines. We also installed a wall of cabinetry opposite the washer and dryer that includes a tall cabinet and a hanging rail.
Pedestals raise the washer and dryer up to a level that is ideal for loading and unloading the machines. Each pedestal opens up to provide more storage. They even fit short, rectangle-style laundry baskets within! This laundry pair is a powerhouse for any household! Backed by Maytag’s 10 Year Limited Parts Warranty with coverage on the Direct Drive Motor, Washer Basket, and Drum. Large capacity, steam settings, and a refresh cycle make them a great choice for a front load pair. We have installed new floor tile throughout the bathroom. It is a 12″x 24″ Amelia tile in the “Mist” color. This same tile is used as the wall tiles in a new custom shower area. We snapped a photo of the new shower before the custom door was installed:
Aren’t those custom wall niches great!? Symmetrical shelves make it easy to separate and store toiletries and soaps. The accent tile used as the shower floor, bench, and inside of these niches is also banded around the shower walls. The 2″ x 2″ basket-weave tile is from the same Ameila series as the wall tiles but in the contrasting “Carbon” color. We love how the bench area looks like it just waterfalls down into the shower floor in this home.
A Delta shower head and removable hand wand was installed for the new shower. Notice that the wand is adjustable for location and it is attached to a grab bar for added safety.
Including grab bars in a bathroom remodel is a wise investment for any home no matter your age or ability. Age-at-home features like these grab bars add a level of safety for all users and certainly add a priceless piece of mind to your remodel selections once everything is installed and finished.
We included another storage area above the new toilet in the bathroom. These stand-alone cabinets are called “toilet toppers” and typically include an open shelf space as well as a concealer door area for toilet paper and other items to be stored out of sight.
Next to the toilet is a great example of our Radiant series of switches and outlets. Notice how this series has no visible screws!? We love that clean look and detail. This series has many great options including a nightlight (shown off/on below).
In keeping with the other clean and fresh material selections, a marble-look quartz counter was installed to replace the original navy blue cultured marble top. This color is the Carrara Grigio design with an undermounted Caxton sink. A quartz backsplash and endsplashes complete the look.

Village Home Stores has installed a number of Sharp appliances throughout the Quad Cities Area over the years. Sharp offers a variety of home appliances for our customers. Our most popular category of product from Sharp are their microwaves. Originally launched with limited options, now this category has broadened to even more models for our customers to choose from. Now including multiple finish options, over-the-counter models, and many drawer models. One new microwave drawer is even available with a wave-controlled open feature (press play below to see).
We wanted to take a moment to showcase some of the microwave options here on the blog so you can help to decide if one of these applications may work to help make your own kitchen design “Sharp”. Microwave hoods are a great choice when needed because they clear up countertop space AND function as a ventilation source for the cooking area… but they are far from decorative. If you love the look of a decorative wood or metal hood for your kitchen design, you will need to install your microwave elsewhere. You have four categories for the location of your microwave other than as a microwave hood: countertop, built-in, drawer, and over-the-counter. Let’s explore those last two.
Microwave Drawers In a Kitchen:
Microwave drawers are becoming a more and more popular in our kitchen designs for both our remodel and new home customers. These models are available in 24″ widths and some in 30″ widths. They install into a microwave base cabinet. Your kitchen designer at Village Home Stores will work closely with your appliance salesperson here to make sure we have the correct space allowance for the microwave you have selected.
Microwave drawers come in a variety of sizes and finishes (yes Black Stainless is available). You also have a choice of an exposed handle model (see above) or a one with a hidden control. Either one can be included in a kitchen suite of appliances from other brands. The hidden-control microwave drawers are very universal in style and pair well with other appliance brands because there is no handle exposed to match. Check out the kitchen island below that includes one.
Installing a microwave drawer in a kitchen island is such a stylish and functional look. The location is always great for for prep and entertaining and they look wonderful installed into the cabinetry. But don’t just take our word for it, even some of the Real Housewives of New Jersey agree! Second thought, do take our word for it, we are far more friendly and we don’t yell nearly as much.
So why is a drawer more practical than a microwave hood or built-in model? There are a number of reasons but consider the loading and unloading as a start. It can be hard or unsafe for young children to reach a microwave hood. Our customers who are investing in kitchen designs to help them age-at-home also find a drawer to be a great selection.
“What I love about a microwave drawer is never having to remove and item just to stir it. Just open the drawer to stir, then close to keep heating.” -Tammy, Appliances Sales
Over The Counter Microwaves:
For those that desire a microwave in the upper section of a kitchen design, you can install an over-the-counter model. These models take the same look and capacity of an over-the-range microwave and remove ventilation features. Over the counter models must be installed under a wall cabinet and our expert appliance staff can answer any questions you may have about outlet and location specifications.
This application allows you to free up countertop surface without installing the unit above the cooktop surface. Many kitchen designs that include this style locate the microwave near the coffee station and/or away from the main cooking zone to allow multiple users to be comfortable in the kitchen at once.
Wait, Didn’t You Say Pizza Oven Earlier?
You bet we did! We had to take some time to mention another category of cooking product available from Sharp: countertop toaster-ovens! We sing the praise of these kitchen appliances anytime we begin a kitchen remodel and suggest our clients to create a temporary kitchen setup. Learn about creating a temporary kitchen here in a past blog post. This Healfio Superheated Steam Oven is absolutely “super” indeed! Looking for a versatile secondary oven option for your kitchen or home bar area? This is it!
This compact oven is small but mighty! It boasts .5 cu. ft. of capacity with the space to fit an entire 12″ pizza in it! We see why they have called it a “superheated” oven because with all it can do, it is like a kitchen superhero! This countertop oven can:
Bake / Reheat Items (by the way, if you are reheating leftovers in a microwave… you’re doing it wrong. Trust us, oven reheating is worth the wait)
There is NO pre-heating and the broiling and crisper pans shown above are included. A small, removable water container is where you can fill in water and add steam during your cooking process (see below).

Our first featured kitchen of the year is in a brand new home built in Geneseo, IL by the team at Hazelwood Homes. This space is a white painted kitchen with an applied glaze and a black painted accent island. It also includes quartz counters, an incredible flooring choice, and a Stainless Steel appliance package. We work closely with our new construction clients to build a team of experts from each department of our store needed. We are all one team working along with you to reach one vision. That way the time spent working on your project in and out of the Village Home Stores showroom is spent wisely. We value your time and we want to see you happy in your new home with the selections you have made from us. The process of building a home can be overwhelming but we do our best to make it fun an exciting. No matter if you are building, remodeling, or just browsing our blog for ideas, there are a lot of great material and design details in this space so let’s jump right in.
What a beautiful space! Selecting white kitchen cabinetry in a great room kitchen setting is always a wonderful choice to keep the entire open concept light and airy. It is a classic cabinet finish that has remained on home magazines covers for years and years. This kitchen space takes a classic look to a whole new level though with added details and material choices that keep it functional and very eye-catching. Beginning with the statement accent island in the center of the kitchen.
This single-level kitchen island includes storage on three sides, outlets on each end, and an overhang for counter-height seating. A gradual, curved radius has been applied to that overhang to soften the look. This island is the best area to showcase the countertop selection for the kitchen. The “Summerhill” design from Cambria Quartz is as durable as it is gorgeous. A blend of expertly curated neutral quartz colors makes it work with so many styles and material combinations. Cambria’s innovative fabrication process even adds a natural looking veining to the slabs. This gives you the look of natural stone with a control of color. It is also an incredibly durable product and perfect surface for any active kitchen. Learn more about Cambria Quartz here in a past blog post.
Above is a closer shot of the “Summerhill” tops in this kitchen. Notice how it includes whites, beiges, grays, AND even a black fleck! Stop in and see samples and installed examples of Cambria Quartz at our showroom. Curious how a Cambria color will look in your existing kitchen? There’s an AR app to “try” them on! Learn more here on the Cambria site! The perimeter counters in this kitchen have been an “Ogee” edge applied for added style and dimension. A great way to show off that the Cambria quartz colors are throughout the entire slab of material from top to bottom. Now do us a favor. Scroll back up to the very first image of this kitchen and look at the inset doorstyle of the kitchen cabinets we’ll wait right here for you to return… and reveal that AREN’T inset doors at all! But at first glance did we have you tricked?
Inset cabinetry is an incredible look and a very classic choice for any kitchen design. But in this home, we have given the illusion of a high-end inset door at a fraction of the investment. This is the “Lexington” door from our Koch Express line of cabinetry. It has been painted in the “White” finish and a “Black Accent” has been applied to the door details. That added accent is what give the illusion of a door inset and shadowed. This small detail added to a traditional-overlay cabinet door gives a great look. It also helps to compliment the black island cabinetry perfectly. We love how the kitchen island pendants compliment the appliances in this space. These 16 1/2″ pendant lights are from Quorum’sSignature Collection and are in the Satin Nickel finish. Satin nickel is a great compliment to the Whirlpool Stainless Steel appliances.
A 26 cu. ft. French Door refrigerator with double drawers and dual icemakers is a great choice for this busy kitchen. The focal point of this wall s the 30″ wide 5-burner gas cooktop with a tall chimney hood above. Shop all of our appliances any day, any time here on our new mobile-friendly website. What a great look for this wall of the kitchen design! Look at how the tile extends all of the way up to meet the angled ceiling behind the hood. A clean look on the edge of that tile is achieved by using a metal edge band to “cap” off the ends in a complimenting Nickel finish.
Oh trust us, we know you noticed that pot-filler faucet above the cooktop right away! Our envy-radar also went off when we saw it. Choices like these are what make a space gorgeous AND functional. We wanted to also showcase here the use of a classic subway tile in white paired with an accent tile and contrasting grout. White subway tile with a dark contrasting grout is an on-trend look but it’s not for everyone. In this kitchen, it would have been a very busy look to have a darker contrast. This subtle color choice pulls a neutral from the counter surface color and the look is great. The accent tile here is from Epic Stone’s Interlocking series in the “Everest” color combination. We also used this same accent tile in one of the tiled showers in the home (shown below).
This shower includes an elongated version of a subway tile These tiles are 4″ x 16″ and installed horizontally, they add a stylish detail while helping to make the shower seem wider. That same accent tile fro the kitchen is used as a band around the shower and also reappears on the front face of the corner bench. A 2″ hexagon tile is used here as the shower floor. Notice also the installation of a shower grab bar at the entrance. See more examples of grab bars we have installed here in this Houzz ideabook. This has become a common request from our clients of all ages and abilities. Installing assistance like this that will help a customer age-at-home and just remain safe is always a great investment!
Back to the kitchen where we can mention another important investment. The flooring you choose for a new home is so important. You want to make selections that will be durable and compliment all of the other selections you are making for fixtures and furniture in your new home. In an open concept layout like this, our COREtec engineered plank floors are a great choice. COREtec comes in a large variety of wood styles and finishes so there truly is something for any space. What our COREtec customers love beyond the look is the performance! These surfaces are kidproof, waterproof, and petproof! For our remodel customers they are great because they can also easily be installed over existing hard surfaces. Contact a flooring expert at Village Home Stores to learn more.

Why Choose Quartz For Countertops?
Just because quartz is a man-made product doesn’t mean it isn’t a gorgeous and unique surface for your home! Quartz is a wonderful investment for a countertop in your home that looks great and performs great! It is scratch-resistant, foodsafe, and maintenance free! Because of it’s non-porous characteristics, there is never any sealing required. A non-porous surface also means a foodsafe surface for food prep and service. Many restaurants and commercial bakeries choose to have quartz installed for work surfaces for hygienic and durability reasons. If you have a busy kitchen and truly use your work surfaces, quartz may be the right surface for you!

What’s Included in a sq/ft Price For Quartz Tops?
Your sq/ft price from Village Home Stores includes template, fabrication, and installation of your tops. There will be no added installation charge, this is an installed price and includes a template to confirm correct dimensions for your countertops. A standard undermount sink opening and faucet drilling are also included. Undermount sinks are recommended for quartz countertop installations because they give you a clean look that is easy to wipe clean from surface to the sink. Undermount sinks come in a variety of materials and design. For kitchen sink inspiration check out this ideabook we made on our Houzz page. Your salesperson at Village Home Stores will partner with our Quartz fabrication shop to communicate the sink model and faucet locations you have selected so that they can install your purchased sink to the tops at installation.
What Isn’t Included in The Price?
Cooktops, slide-in ranges, additional sinks, additional faucet holes, and outlet cut-outs available at an upcharge. This installed price does not include plumbing hook-up of sink or faucets. You must provide a drawing with measurements and a layout for a quote. All we need are a few basic measurements from you to quote you a price for your counters. Don’t worry, this is NOT what is used to fabricate your countertops. It is just enough information to answer our questions and get you an accurate sq.ft. quote for your space.
While this is an installed price, the removal of your existing tops must be arranged before template and installation dates. This can be quoted to you upon request. Existing countertops must be removed before template date. Once your template date has been arranged, you can expect just a one week turnaround time for your countertops! While we understand that being without countertops and a sink is an inconvenience, we have worked hard to narrow this timeframe down to a single week to help. Check out this past blog post about setting up a temporary kitchen and dishwashing station while you are waiting for your project to be completed.
If it is determined that an overhanging area of quartz surface requires support brackets, they can be quoted to you for an additional charge. We have many quartz countertop surfaces installed in our showroom displays as well as samples of each of these promo-priced options. Are you interested in getting a quote for one of these stunning quartz surfaces for your own home? Just reach out to our kitchen design team for a quote. You can call us at 309 944 1344 or complete this short online form and a team member will contact you about your project. We can’t wait to hear what project you are working on!
Because of our location and a service radius that spreads over Illinois and Iowa farm country, we do a lot of work for farmers. They are such great customers who appreciate our store’s value of quality work and craftsmanship. Plus we really really really respect the work that they do. So when a Midwest farmer chooses us to work for them, that is the ultimate compliment to our crews. In this case, the customer asked us to manage a kitchen remodel for them from start to finish… during harvest season! For those are close to any farming households you know that harvest is the busiest, most stress-filled, and demanding seasons of the year. So we felt such an added level of trust from this customer that they were allowing us to get to work for them while they were working so hard on their end. The result? This warm and inviting new space to come home to:
Rustic Beech wood cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the “Briarwood” stain and applied Black accent glaze looks right at home. The raised-panel Seneca door offers great edge details for that accent glaze to adhere to. Added crown molding, a valance area above the sink, and decorative baseboard trim provided even more edges to be accented. A beautiful tiled backsplash, staggered height and depth cabinets, and a farmsink completes the refined rustic look of the new kitchen.
A kitchen peninsula divides the kitchen from the dining area in the new open concept design. When space allows it, a peninsula can work so well with two heights. This design offers a standard base-height cabinet section on the interior (user) side of the peninsula, and raised bar-height top on the outside. The bar top includes an overhang for casual barstool seating. A barn door look on the back of the peninsula has been applied to compliment the kitchen and the entire great room space.
A Rustic Beech panel and applied trim in an “X” design breaks up the back panel space and adds such great character! Speaking of character, nothing adds rustic charm like a wooden beam. Once the original kitchen was torn out and the entrance widened, it was confirmed that a header would need to be placed above the peninsula area to help support the weight. We wrapped this header with paneling and trim to create the illusion of a large wooden beam. The finished result is perfect for the space!
Two pendant lights from Kichler hang on the inside of the beam. The pendants blend a matte black and brushed gold finish for the design. Cabinet handle hardware for this kitchen is from the Bremen series by Jeffery Alexander. Cabinet hardware can be an important selection for the daily use of your kitchen. Be sure you select designs that looks great but also function well for you. Test out the handles to make sure your hand can comfortably fit to operate them.
On the interior of the Peninsula is a long work surface with plenty of outlets and storage solutions in the cabinetry. We installed a pullout trash cabinet on the end of the peninsula. This keeps the trash located centrally for users inside and outside of the kitchen. Near the inside corner is a specialty cabinet many will envy: a Tupperware organizer! This pullout unit includes a lower section for the containers and a top slotted section for lids. No more opening a cabinet door and bracing yourself for an avalanche!
Another fantastic storage upgrade is located near the cooking center of the new kitchen. A pullout cabinet opens to reveal utensil bins and knife storage. There is even a lower shelf that can also be used for large utensils or kitchen gadgets. This is just one of many storage options available in a pullout cabinet. Even small cabinet spaces can pack great storage solutions! Ask your designer at Village Home Stores about your options.
Of course an appliance garage is one of the original cabinet storage solutions ever added to kitchen cabinet lines. This kitchen includes a garage in an upgraded new style. Instead of an accordion or louvered door, this corner appliance garage has a matching cabinet door. Top-lift hardware is installed to let the door open out and up for a more spacious look and feel.
We made sure the new kitchen had plenty of outlets throughout. These stylish square outlets are from the adorne series by legrand. So many options for switches and outlets plus so many colors for plates to select from. We also love that the plates snap in place (no visible screws) for a smooth, clean look.
The countertops in this kitchen are a natural stone named “White Sand”. There is so much character in the slabs and the granite looks perfect in this completed design. That same legrand outlet company makes an undercabinet lighting system that is versatile and stylish. This system allows you customize locations for lighting, added outlets, speakers, devices, and more. One of the added benefits for this undercabinet system is it frees up the entire backsplash area for a tile design. No outlets to disrupt the layout of tile.
We also installed this system across the room on the refrigerator wall. A dropzone/landing space for the kitchen is home to the phone dock and where mail and piles are welcome to collect. A bluetooth speaker and phone charging station is in place here. On this wall we gave a counter-depth refrigerator a real built-in look with a panel on the left side and a tall pantry cabinet on the right. This section of cabinetry stretches all the way to the ceiling with a crown riser and stacked molding.
Pay attention to the handles on the tall pantry cabinet above. Notice that they are the same style as the kitchen but a larger scale. This choice helps to better pair the door size with an appropriate handle and also to give a more solid open and close to the doors as they operate. What kind of details and cabinet upgrades would you pick for your own dream kitchen? Many of these cabinet inserts and add-ons are far more affordable than you would expect! See the full album of photos from this kitchen here on our Houzz portfolio.
The Holiday season gets the Village Home Stores team so excited. It brought us so much joy to visit this Kewanee home for a final walk-through and see it all decked out for the Christmas Season. Can we also just take a moment to enjoy how great this barn door looks in the dining room? The homeowner installed and stained the door to match the new kitchen themselves!
Is a new kitchen or bathroom from Village Home Stores on the top of your Christmas list? Let us know! But don’t write to the North Pole (they are a bit busy this time of year).
