Bettendorf, IA- A Gorgeous Gray Galley Kitchen

Many of the homes in the Quad Cities region include a layout commonly referred to as a “Galley Kitchen”. This just means that two parallel sections of cabinets and counters make up the kitchen design. When space is limited, a Galley kitchen layout may be the best solution.

Soffits were removed from the original space and a section of the original wall was removed to create a more open design into the adjacent living room area. Our team including a cabinet designer, electricians, plumbers, carpenters and our project managers worked with these Bettendorf customers to create a more functional kitchen layout while updating the look of the space. New Luxury Vinyl Plank floors from Mannington have been installed in the “Seaport” series and “Surf” color.

In a Galley kitchen layout, it is best to consider maximizing the aisle space between the counters and offering the best storage solutions for the kitchen. Keeping the center aisle space as open as possible helps allow a user to be at an appliance or the kitchen sink and still allow someone to pass behind them. Many times our customers request a large stack of drawers for pots and pans storage in place of a set of doors with slide-out shelves behind them.

This makes access to items easier when you are working in the kitchen. The drawer guides for this type of storage are undermounted and installed to accommodate the weight of pots and pans. This kitchen includes a half-wall that has a bar-height countertop that overhangs into the living room. Perfect for adding stools for dining and even leaning against when entertaining. The quartz in this kitchen is from Caesarstone in the “Symphony Grey” design and standard eased edge profile.

The refrigerator used to be located down near the doorway into the kitchen. This made the room seem crowded right upon entering it. A new counter-depth refrigerator is located now closer to the “end” of the kitchen. A “counter-depth” refrigerator just means that the entire unit is shallower than a standard one. A standard refrigerator can extend many inches into the kitchen walkway, this unit sits back with the cabinetry allowing maximum traffic flow. In a Galley layout, that space is valuable! This French Door unit from Whirlpool® is 20 cu. ft. and even includes an external ice/water dispenser.

Including a sit-down desk in a kitchen layout has become a thing of the past. No body wants to miss out on space for storage where a desk seating area may have been. Instead, many who work in the kitchen choose to do so at an island or a bar-height top like the one in this layout. But what about the piles? Every kitchen countertop no matter how large the family ends up with the piles! This kitchen design includes a mail organizer cabinet. A mail organizer is a modification that can be made to a wall cabinet to give a place to sort and store mail, keys, calendars, tablets, coupons, etc. Many times we are even installing an outlet in these cabinets to create a charging station.

Speaking of power, all of the new switches and outlets in the kitchen have been replaced with the Adorne series by legrand. The tiled backsplash in this kitchen is a wonderful example of finding a tile that ties all the other finishes together perfectly. The tile is from our Jeffrey Court line in the “Pietra Opus” series and “Winward Plains” color.

Cabinetry for this kitchen design is from our Koch Classic line in the “Savannah” door. A hickory wood has been stained in the warm gray “Stone” finish. The cabinet finish is truly stunning in person! Hickory is the perfect wood to showcase this “Stone” stain. The natural hickory woodgrain is highlighted by the stain and in this home filled with oak trim, it is a perfect compliment. The variation of the wood from panel to panel and even the rails and stiles of the doors is noticeable and beautiful.

The hardware for this kitchen is another bullseye selection! The “Merrick” series from Jeffrey Alexander is sleek and stylish. It compliments the handle styles of the Whirlpool® appliances but in a new finish. The burnished pewter finish has a hint of stainless but blends into the wood finish perfectly. Showroom Updates 2017: New Lighting Showroom

As we mentioned in our previous post, Village Home Stores is growing. In 2017 we have invested in a larger and revised showroom to offer our customers the best customer experience possible for their project with us. Village Home Stores has become the expert destination for Kitchen & Bath design in our region. Now our new showroom space makes it even more fun and exciting to shop for Appliances, Cabinetry, Lighting, and Floorcovering all in one location. Our store is committed to being a family-owned and locally-owned business. Our customers have a great appreciation that they can pair our expert service with competitive prices to box stores. That means our customers get competitive prices but don’t sacrifice service before or after the sale.

This expansion was extensive! We will be posting a full album of photos from the process to our Facebook page over the next few days. We expanded into another storefront adjacent to our current two showroom locations. The first new space happened within our existing cabinetry entrance. That door is now the main door of our showroom. See the tour of that space here on a previous blog post. We have opened up the connecting walls into it and invested in a stylish and welcoming new lighting showroom space of over 1,200 sq. ft.

What a transformation! With the opportunity to make the space one large design concept, we were able to select materials and products that compliment each other. Textures vary throughout from smooth marble-like quartz to rustic brick-look floor tile. Even our staff is still adjusting to coming around the corner to see this beautiful space. We have already hosted our first team meeting in the new showroom and it was nearly impossible to get over 30 of us to not be distracted by looking around. We were also thrilled that we finally have a space open enough in our store to fit all of our employees at once comfortably.

We don’t just open an account with any lighting vendor. The products we sell must represent Village Home Stores as much as the brand name on the box. Along with lighting, we have installed a full kitchen display and a Master Bath vanity display. We hope these spaces help you to visualize lighting and the full range of products we have available at Village. Our Koch kitchen is a Hickory wood with a Stone stain applied. Viking appliances complete the kitchen. We may be located in a small town but Village Home Stores is home to the largest Viking Range appliance display in the region.

This same kitchen display includes our Legrand undercabinet system fit with speakers, outlets, iPad, and phone docks. Be sure to stop in to see this interchangeable and fun system in action. We are pretty much in love with the antiqued backsplash tile in this kitchen display as well. No judgement from our staff, artistic mirror tile selfies welcome and encouraged.

You don’t need to be working on a project to visit our showroom. You may see staff and customers meeting throughout our showroom when you visit. We often set up to meet outside of our private conference areas when discussing finishes or involving multiple departments on a project. We have included a few areas in this new showroom for our builders and customers to meet with our lighting staff comfortably. We love the rustic table base that our friends at Reclaimed Salvage built for our large meeting table with a Cambria Quartz top.

A spacious new layout for this Laundry Room includes a long wall of storage and countertops divided into three sections. This wall of the design has been designated the “folding wall”, a place to sort, hang, and organize laundry tasks. The dark painted finish shown above is a painted finish from our Durasupreme Cabinetry line. The paint is named “Graphite” shown here on the “Silverton” doorstyle. Cabinetry throughout provides added storage to this hallway room for far more than just laundry items. On the wall opposite is a sink and cabinet area finished in the “Zinc” paint with “Slate” accent glaze. These cabinets surround a Maytag® laundry pair ready to tackle your toughest loads:

This front load Washer and Dryer is in Maytag®’s stylish new Metallic Slate finish and has been raised up onto storage pedestals. With 4.5 cu. ft. capacity in the washer and 7.4 cu. ft. in the dryer, that is enough capacity to clean 29 towels in one load. The “Summerhill” Cambria quartz design is the perfect compliment to each of the painted cabinet finishes. A standard “Eased” edge is used with no quartz backsplash installed. The sink wall of cabinetry includes a large single bowl undermount sink from Elkay. Elkay’s “Dusk Gray” finish mimics the accent glaze of the cabinets as well as the laundry pair and “Graphite” painted cabinets across the room. While a stainless steel or warm brushed nickel finish would look right at home in this space, polished chrome is a bright and stylish choice. The countertops and textured glass tiles are illuminated by our Diode LED lighting system. We love the little reminder system this homeowner has started using with her Diode lighting. If there is laundry running that will need to be changed over to the dryer, all the lights are turned off but the undercabinet lighting remains on. Since these lights are low-voltage, this system is a cost-effective way to remind her as she walks down the hall that there is laundry to check back on. The sink wall of cabinetry that faces a window is fit with great storage solutions. A pull-out double bin waste basket on one end, and sliding shelves on the other. Also concealed within the top drawer of one of these cabinets is an innovative way to store and access your ironing board. Stylish and interesting, the Adorne series of switches and outlets has been placed throughout this new Laundry Room. This unique system is available from our legrand line and has customization options that are almost limitless. Read more about the Adorne series here in a past blog post about the Master Bathroom in this very same home. The finish shown in this space is the “Satin Nickel” wall plate. The perfect choice against the American Olean textured glass tiles. These “Elegant Crystal” tiles in the “Sand” finish measure 4″ x 12″ long and add texture and dimension to the space.

That same tile is installed on the folding wall of the design. Taking a suggestion from the elongated wall tile shape is a 12″ x 24″ sized tile from our Florstar line on the floors. This series is names “Matrix” and the color is “Azul”. This versatile wall of cabinetry now includes hanging storage, cabinet storage, and a floating drawer area in the center for folding and sorting laundry. Below this counter is space for three rolling laundry carts that can be easily moved from here to the laundry units across the room.

Village Home Show Episode 7 | Bathrooms

On this episode of the Village Home Show we tour two Quad City Area bathrooms. Each Master Bathroom has been remodeled to include beautiful new materials and bright open spaces. Click right here below to watch this full episode and see the entire before & after stories of these bathrooms.

The first bathroom we look at in this episode had a ton of space already. The homeowners were right in knowing that just a few changes could really make the space work even better for them. A warm, neutral selection of materials paired with a traditional style creates a stunning space in this Bettendorf, IA home.

An arched area that has a custom fit cherry bench seat where an existing jacuzzi tub was removed. A matching wood top gives the homeowners extra storage space and keeps the area open. Above the bench you will note an arched valance that compliments the other arches throughout the home.

Our carpenters worked with the homeowners to maintain the arch look with a template, so each had the same look. This is a great look and you will notice both bathrooms we feature in this episode have arched areas with a light fixture as a focal point. Another common theme from one bathroom to the next is heated tile flooring and two of the most gorgeous custom tiled showers in the Quad Cities! The second Master Bath we tour uses cooler colors of materials. This original bathroom had a very large layout with lots of great natural light. The homeowners were looking for ways to make better use of their space. The entire bathroom was demo-ed including the master bedroom attached to the bath. A beautiful Crystorama chandelier hangs above the tub.

The shower goes into the same location but there is an addition of a bench seat, custom wall shelf, and new shower head and control system. Mosaic tile accents the new shower and is repeated as a bold statement filling each of the vanity walls. Master Bath Remodel: Spa Day Can Be Every Day

Who says a staycation can be overrated? Not a chance when this Master Bathroom retreat is where you could book your spa day! Medium oak cabinetry, trim and doors were replaced with a cool, serene collection of finishes. White doors and trim create a high contrast to the dark cherry cabinetry installed into this relaxing new spa getaway in Colona, IL.

Giving the look of a high-end hotel but with all of the extra storage needed, there are two identical vanities in the new space. Storage below in the vanities allows for a cleaner look to be applied to the space above them. A framed mirror in place of a medicine cabinet mirrors back the vanity directly across from it as well as all of the light throughout the bath.

The Cabinetry and framed mirrors where custom ordered from our Dura Supreme Cabinetry line in a dark cherry stain. Brushed hardware and the addition of decorative feet to the toespace help set off this look. “Gray Expo” Silestone quartz countertops with undermounted white bowls perfectly compliment the surrounding tile selections. Let’s take a look at what other details went into creating this serene new space.

You may have noticed that there are not any boring white wall switches distracting from this gorgeous new space. Our Adorne^® series of switches and plugs have been installed throughout this new Master bath as well as the Master Bedroom just outside of it.

This series allows you functions like pop-up outlets, wave-control switches and even U.S.B. charging stations all within a sleek square receptacle. Frame them in with one of their many plate choices or create your own custom wall plate. Get ready to start seeing more and more of our projects with these products they are truly amazing!

An in-floor heating system has been installed beneath the new ceramic flooring. Cold bare feet are no match for this new cozy upgrade. What rests on these warm floor is the most inviting tub you could ask for.

Your first view into this new space is of the new freestanding tub with an arched tray ceiling above. The previous tub dropped into a tiled platform and an oak apron filled this entire alcove. The same space is now open and outstanding!

When you create such a perfectly framed space for a focal point you have to have just the right element to complete it. In this case it is the “Layla” hanging light fixture by Crystorama above the new tub. Always remember that if you have an idea you have seen somewhere online or in a magazine, our team is always eager to see what inspires you and help include those things into your own design.

With a light like the one above the tub, it is better to compliment it than compete with it for the remaining lighting. Knowing the vanity lights would be mounted on the mosaic tile and be within sight of the tub fixture, these lights from Feiss were a great choice. the same mosaic tile was installed in the wall shelf near the tub as well as an accent in the new shower.

If the tub is not where you will want to spend your time the new walk-in shower sure will be! If one showerhead just isn’t enough for you how about a rain showerhead above, a standard showerhead, and a handheld unit?

This walk-in tiled shower includes a bench and built-in shelf for toiletries. A rain shower head has also been installed above and can be used with or without the main shower unit. They each run on their own control system.

Opposite the entrance to the walk-in shower is a private area for the stool in the Master Bath. A custom toilet-topper wall cabinet was designed to house toiletries and extra linens in the wide space above the stool.

Like many great things are, a gorgeous space gets that way because of the details. Just like the Adorne^® collection gives the wall outlets and switches that added edge, details like crown molding can complete a look. The unique shape of this Master bath allows many locations for crown molding to draw attention to the room’s shape.

Other details like the waterfalling faucet fixtures all help create one cohesive and complete look.
