Geneseo, IL- Kitchen Remodel With Warm Birch Cabinets and Unique Quartz

The kitchen in any home can be the busiest room in the house. That is why we think it is so important to make it a space that suggests comfort as well as function. This Geneseo, IL kitchen invites you right in even by just viewing the photos. A warm and inviting selection of woods and other materials we know you will love.

Koch Classic cabinetry in the “Seneca” doorstyle and Birch “Briarwood” stain is a rich, medium toned wood that warms up the overall look. A black accent glaze has been applied to the cabinets to help enhance the edges of the doors and drawers as well as the details on moldings and finished ends. That black accent color is repeated in the dining table and chairs.

A tall section of cabinetry surrounds the refrigerator in this kitchen design. A wide pantry cabinet opens to reveal adjustable rollout shelving inside. At 24″ deep, this cabinet can store a lot of dry goods directly next to the freshfood storage in the refrigerator.

A small landing space of countertop allows a space for loading and unloading pantry items and a wonderful location apart from the food prep areas for daily mail and charging devices. Applied doors on the exposed ends of cabinetry give a polished off and complete look to the kitchen design.

On the opposite side of the refrigerator is another tall cabinet. This helps to “cap” off the refrigerator and give a more built-in and customized look overall. Because of the high-traffic location right by the back doorway, an angled tall cabinet was used. This keeps the cabinet from projecting too far into the kitchen but still allows for a lot of storage within.

Across from the refrigerator is the sink area of the kitchen. A double-well farm sink is the center of all attention beneath the kitchen window. A single-lever control kitchen faucet with pullout sprayer is installed for the sink and a reverse osmosis water system to the right of that.
A Geneseo, IL kitchen including white farmsink with low center divider. | VillageHomeStores.comThis farmsink is unique in that it includes a popular low-divider feature we have been seeing a lot of in composite undermounted sink options over the past few years. A lowered center divider allows for the sink to be filled when needed to a 1/3-1/2 fill. By having a lowered center divider, this keeps the sink overall area available for washing large items without making a watery mess on the nearby countertops.

This farmhouse sink is undermounted to a gorgeous quartz top from Cambria® Quartz. The “Harlech” design is a beautiful blend of neutral earth-tones with a sparkling gray veining throughout. This gives the look of a natural stone with all of the benefits of quartz. The tops truly dazzle and are showcased by our Diode LED low-voltage lighting installed underneath the wall cabinetry.

This system of lighting is a definite must-have item when building or remodeling. There is no better way to showcase your new space than to add this system. It washes your countertop and backsplash area with consistent light that can even be dimmed for an ambient look. Yes it helps your kitchen look amazing but it is extremely functional as well! Task lighting is a key element in any functional kitchen design.A Geneseo, IL kitchen including birch Harlech Cambria Quartz. | VillageHomeStores.com

This space is warm and inviting. The quartz tops in this kitchen truly add a unique look and a natural element to the space. We can’t say enough about how happy our customers are that choose to invest in Cambria®. The selections of designs are truly top-notch and best of all, it is maintenance free once installed! This quartz product is manufactured in the US and represents both classic and on-trend options. Find out more about Cambria® in this recent blog post.
A Geneseo, IL kitchen including unique adorne outlets and switches. | VillageHomeStores.com

The adorne series of switches and outlets from our legrand line is a stylish choice for the new kitchen. Bright white basic outlets would stand out against the new tile. Instead, these unique switches add function and style to the space. The color of the plates is named “Ashton Tan”.  A 1’x2″ tile named “Crema Cappuccino” from Epic Stone has been installed throughout the new kitchen space. It is a wonderful compliment to the lighter colors found in the quartz design. Slight variations from tile to tile don’t compete with the business of the Harlech design.

Not every kitchen can accommodate an island in the given space. Sometimes including a peninsula is still the best layout choice to offer added base cabinet storage and counter surface. The back and exposed end of a kitchen peninsula still needs to be finished. This kitchen has been ordered with a back panel custom fit for the length of the peninsula back. The panel mimics the raised center panel design of the kitchen cabinet doors. The “end” of the peninsula is a 12″ deep cabinet with double doors for added storage.

The side of that “end” cabinet has been treated with an applied door to look like a cabinet when viewing from the interior of the kitchen layout. A stainless steel dishwasher from KitchenAid® is quiet at just 43 decibels. It includes an express wash option and adjustable upper and lower rack layouts. Love this kitchen? Moline, IL- Kitchen Remodel Fully Managed From Start to Finish

This Moline, IL kitchen is a tale that we are sure many can relate to. The original kitchen cabinets were in a very functional layout but beginning to show the wear and tear of years of use. After years and years of “maybe someday I’ll replace them”… this Spring “someday” had finally come. beforeNow the kitchen is updated with new cabinetry plus we removed an entire wall to make room for an island in the new design. The original kitchen shared the same L-shaped layout but the opposite end had a corner of walls with just enough room for a small table and two chairs. Kitchen remodel in Moline, IL managed from start to finish. | VillageHomeStores.com

Now with one of those back walls removed, the kitchen is open and bright. Birch wood Cabinetry from our Koch classic line has been installed in the “Westbrook” door style. A “Chestnut” stain has been applied and a “Black” accent glaze highlights the door and trim details. Engineered Quartz countertops in the “Chakra Beige” design is a neutral tone-on-tone look.

Crown molding on kitchen cabinets. | VillageHomeStores.comThe spindle rail crown has been removed from the original kitchen. The new kitchen look is updated with “cove” crown molding. This crown is the perfect style and scale for the project. It even includes an area for the accent glaze to catch. With plenty of cabinet space within reach on each wall, an area above the cabinets is left to display items.

A white Whirlpool® range and microwave hood are also part of the new kitchen. Microwave hoods can save counterspace and be installed to vent out of the home or re-circulate the air. The original kitchen had just a range hood installed, now the microwave is off the counter.

The new electric range includes an easy-wipe ceramic glass cooktop. The most dramatic difference in the new kitchen came when we removed a wall that divided the kitchen from the dining room. Removing this one wall has helps this kitchen seem to grow in space even though it hasn’t extended any further into the dining room than before. The small table and chairs is now replaced with a large single-level kitchen island with seating for two comfortably.
Removing a wall in a kitchen can free up so much space! | VillageHomeStores.com

With open shelves installed on each end of the island, the largest base cabinet included faces in toward the kitchen sink. Behind the double doors of this cabinet are two slide-out shelves. The “ends” to each open shelf cabinets have been treated with “applied doors” on each side. This gives the illusion of doors and helps complete the look instead of just a smooth panel. The back of the island includes three applied doors and two wood decorative supports for the overhang.
Hallmark hardwood flooring. | Village Home Stores

The island is really the focal point of this new kitchen and the accent glaze highlights all of the details perfectly. While the island steal the show in the kitchen, the new hardwood Walnut flooring is now showcased through the entire upper level of this home. The Walnut hardwood in the “Saddle” finish is from our Hallmark Hardwood line. Read more about Hallmark and some of our other projects here at this link.

Flooring and remodel work in Moline, IL | VillageHomeStores.comThe hardwood flooring was not the only new flooring installed at this remodeled home. The split-foyer layout was given a whole new look right at the stairway leading up into the new hardwood open-concept. A new stair rail and banister were installed and carpeting from our Dixie Home line was put in on both sets of stairs. This carpet is from the “Rock Creek” series in the “Ginger color. It is a 100% Stainmaster® carpet that resists stains, abrasive wear over time, and even has anti-static protection. That means you reduce your chances of static shock. This textured carpet also includes Dixie Home’s texture retention technology meaning your texture/pattern will bounce back and keep it’s hold for a long time. Village Home Stores sells carpeting to both remodel and New Construction customers. So if you need a single room of carpet or a whole home, we have quality products and quality installation crews ready for the job! Village Home Stores is your expert choice of carpeting in the extended Quad Cities region. That is why our projects always include the following:Carpeting in the Quad Cities. | VillageHomeStores.com

This homeowner knew that she wanted to be sure to include our LED undercabinet lighting in her new kitchen. She had seen this system in our previous projects and on our TV show so it was at the top of her wish list for the new kitchen. That lighting was a great investment to help showcase her new subway tile backsplash in the kitchen. 3″ x 6″ glass tiles from our Jeffrey Court line in the “Buff” color are the perfect choice and pair perfectly with the countertops selected. We included the finished space in an episode of the Village Home Show. See a full video tour of this finished kitchen remodel by pressing play below.

Geneseo, IL: Master Bathroom Remodel

We recently shared a featured home bar design here on the blog. That same home included a remodeled Master Bathroom with design and products from our store. Village Home Stores seems to be working on so many bathroom remodels currently that we thought we would share a quick tour of the finished space. If a bathroom remodel is in your near future be sure to check out the very end of this post to find links to find our bathroom ideas on Pinterest and Houzz. Take a peek at this beautiful new wall of cabinetry in a Geneseo, IL Master Bath. Master Bathroom cabinetry ideas. | VillageHomeStores.com

Birch cabinetry from our Koch Classic line has been installed in a “Chestnut” stain. Details of the “Westbrook” door style stand out with the added “Black” accent glaze. A center section includes two vanity sinkbases flanked by a stack of drawers on each end. The center section of cabinetry has been pulled forward and decorative feet have been added to give this sink section a furniture look. Double bowl bathroom vanity. | VillageHomeStores.com

The vanity sink section is wide enough to accommodate two bowls and comfortably host two users at the same time without feeling crowded. The vanity top selected for this Master Bathroom is a Corian solid-surface named “Tumbleweed”. Two integrated oval bowls in the “Cameo” color have been included for a seamless look that is easy to clean and looks fantastic.Corian Tumbleweed bathroom vanity top with integrated bowl. | VillageHomeStores.com

Solid-surface makes for an excellent choice as a vanity countertop. The material is non-porous and easily repairable if scratched. A coved backsplash is an option when installing solid-surface in a kitchen or bathroom. The center section of this vanity top received a 4″ tall splash to help keep faucet splashes and any spilled items from dirtying the custom mirror. Each end of the Corian has no backsplash. Instead, there is room to allow for a wall cabinet to extend down all the way to the surface. Master Bathroom Cabinetry Ideas. | VillageHomeStores.comThese tall cabinets stretch all the way from the countertop to the ceiling.  They add accessible storage to each user and help frame in a very customized design. From wall to wall the entire space has been considered. A custom mirror is framed in by matching mirror molding. The vanity lights have been installed directly through the mirror and the crown molding wraps from wall to wall across the finished look. It is the details of this design that help this single wall of cabinetry stand out and catch your eye right away. Every door edge is highlighted by the accent glaze and an “Ogee” edge profile has been applied all across the Corian countertop. ogee edge

Selecting certain details can really help take your project to the next level! This Corian top would still look great with any other standard solid-surface edge. Instead, the added detail creates another line that spans across the top. It accents the change in depths on the top and helps the entire wall seem longer and more spacious. Geneseo, IL- Basement Bar

We don’t just create amazing kitchen and bathroom designs at Village Home Stores. There are many other types of spaces in your home that a custom design might be needed for. The home bar is a fantastic example of one of these spaces. Sometimes you really do want to go where everybody knows your name. If you are lucky enough to have a bar this amazing in your own basement…. you had better believe a LOT of folks will want to know your name! Grab a drink and let’s take a look around.Georgia Bulldogs themed bar in Geneseo, IL | VillageHomeStores.com

Home bar design by Village Home Stores. This Geneseo, IL basement bar remodel brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “nah. I think I’ll just have some friends over and watch the game here”. Why would you ever have to go out when you have this at home? Truth is… you rarely even see real taverns with as beautiful of a custom bar anymore. The barkeep here happens to be a bit of a Georgia Bulldogs fan but with a little bit of imagination you can picture it done up with your own team’s swag. Custom Rustic Cherry cabinetry has been distressed and a “Mocha” stain with “Black” accent glaze has been applied. The “Seneca” raised-panel doorstyle was used on the bar cabinetry. This raised-panel look is perfect for a Traditional styled bar created with the Koch Classic cabinetry.

Home bar featuring Georgia Bulldogs memorabilia. | VillageHomeStores.comThe main cabinets included in this home bar are only visible to the bartender himself. The most important view of this space is as a guest. The bar can comfortably seat 6 at the bar-height top and two more at the counter height top (shown above). behind those barstools are custom wainscot panels that perfectly compliment the cabinetry on the interior and back bar of the space.Wainscoting bar ideas. | VillageHomeStores.com

Shown in the image above, these wainscot panels are divided up with fluted column details and decorative wood corbel supports. As we share time and time again on this blog, details always make the design. Details you can see and appreciate plus details you can use and appreciate. Having a bar rail on the lower section of this bar helps make it really look complete. Including a bar rail on your project looks great and is so fantastic as a seated guest! Having a place to rest your feet when sitting at that height for extended amounts of time is important in making visitors feel comfortable. stainless_bar_rail

Traditional polished brass bar rail is still available but and updated look is created here by using a Stainless Steel bar rail system. Another detail that most female guests can appreciate are the purse hooks that were added just below the countertop overhang.purse_hook_on_bar

Georgia Bulldogs themed bar in Geneseo, IL. | VillageHomeStores.comThese hooks are very necessary in public establishments as a way to keep your handbag within reach and away from sticky floors. This home bar is very well kept so sticky floors are not a problem. Instead, the purse hooks are a thoughtful detail. Lets take a look at the back bar area that bar patrons can see. The wall has been fit with open shelves for bar accessories and memorabilia plus glass shelves for bottles and glassware. A 15″ wide built-in ice maker from KitchenAid provides uniform 3/4″ x 3/4″ x 1/2″ sized cubes. What looks like a tall pantry cabinet to the left of the ice maker is actually access to the real “back of the house”. Press play below to see this walk-through pantry front that is an entrance to the storage area of the lower level.

As you turn the corner, a 27″ wide built-in combination microwave and wall oven has been included in the design. With a lot of guests you will need to feed them. This microwave and oven are perfect for helping with that task. Directly across from the oven on the counter-height bar is a small 2-burner electric cooktop perfect for prepping food and serving guests. Two-burner electric cooktop. | VillageHomeStores.comThis smooth cooktop takes up a small amount of space but adds a lot of function to this area of the home bar. The countertops installed on the bar are a granite named “Saturnia”. In place of a polished look to the stone, a “brushed” finish has been used. This creates a more matte look and enhances the texture and patterns of the stone. Of course with all the food and drinks getting served at this bar you will need a bar sink. Bar sink in a home bar designed by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.comA single well Stainless Steel undermount sink is fit with a faucet and pullout sprayer. A garbage disposal button has been included to the left of the faucet. A tilt-out tray on the false drawer below the sink keeps sponges and dishrags out of sight when not in use. Of course cleaning up after entertaining is always made easier with a dishwasher. This 24″ KitchenAid is so quiet you could even have it running while entertaining. lighted_glass_shelvesKitchenAid beverage cooler in bar. | VillageHomeStores.comA mirrored back wall and glass shelves make for an impressive display for memorabilia and bottles. Glassware can also look great in this application. A colorful light system was installed behind the glass shelves to illuminate the wall in the evening. Adding mirror is a great way to open up any space. A glass-front beverage cooler is accessed near the cooktop area below the lower counter height top. This cooler from KitchenAid can be used as a built-in (shown here in our design) or freestanding. The same is true of the 15″ ice maker.Georgia Bulldogs home bar. | VillageHomeStores.comThere is an impressive amount of space behind the bar. Great storage including sliding shelves, pullout trash bins, and drawers for tools and towels. For a large crowd there is even extra seating on the interior of the bar. All this seating plus pool, shuffleboard, a game table, and a walk-out to the backyard fire pit. Why would you ever need to go anyplace else but home? Another great element are the fluted columns that stretch from the bartop to the tray ceiling. Fluted columns in a home bar. | VillageHomeStores.com

This same fluting detail can be found dividing the wainscot panels on the back of the bar. The carved wood corbel supports and fluted details are enhanced with the accent glaze that has been layered over the stain.column_detail This rich cherry wood, gorgeous granite tops,  and all of the design details create a home bar that outshines many of the public spaces opening up nowadays. We really love helping our customers make the most of their experiences at home. We love helping provide the perfect setting and creating spaces that bring people together. Cheers to these clients for welcoming us in to show you around this unforgettable home bar. custom_bar_cabinetsLooking for other great ideas for your home bar? Geneseo, IL Remodel- Rustic Beech Kitchen

This kitchen remodel was done by a homeowner in Geneseo, IL with design and materials coming from Village Home Stores. The original kitchen included a wall that divided the kitchen from the dining area. With the wall now removed, the new space is full of light and space. Now in place of the wall is a peninsula of cabinetry and countertop that has quickly become a favorite place for visiting grandchildren. main

silestone sierra madre quartz. | VillageHomeStores.comOne of the sure signs that this peninsula is the place to be in this new kitchen is a plate of treats awaiting guests. What grandchild (or visiting Village Home Stores employee) can resist pulling up a stool to chat or help out in this great new space. The countertops selected for this remodel are by Silestone Quartz in “Sierra Madre”. Added piece of mind is that Silestone includes Bacteriostatic Protection  which means silver ions are included in the quartz to prevent the propagation of bacteria.  A perfect added value to this selection since this new peninsula area is ideal for for preparation and serving. Can’t you just picture a “gaggle” or grandchildren all gathered at this top making Christmas cookies? An outlet has been installed at the very end of the peninsula for small appliances or even a laptop or tablet can be plugged in if used as a desk.

With all of those guests and a bright new space to enjoy, these homeowners better stock up on some snacks! There is plenty of places to store them within the pantry zone of the new kitchen design. The wall that is home to the refrigerator is also where you will find a wide pantry cabinet.
Tall kitchen cabinet with shelves. | VillageHomeStores.com

Three adjustable-height sliding trays of storage plus a stationary shelf above that allow full access to the lower section. The trays are a very versatile way to use the space and extend out to allow the user to see everything within. Above is a 24″ deep space for appliances or bulk items. Click play to watch this cabinet and all of the trays in animated form. We love the addition of baskets to the slideout trays! This kitchen was so full of great storage we had to include it on a storage-themed episode of our local TV show. Watch that full episode here to see the full details tour of this great remodel!

Two incredible kitchen remodels both featuring storage solutions perfect for each home. It is amazing how something as basic as adding sliding shelves can help you enjoy and use your kitchen space more. Don’t miss out on the oportunity to fill your cabinets with the best storage potential possible.

Believe it or not this tall pantry cabinet is not the only great pantry storage section in the new kitchen. Just down the wall is a walk-through corner pantry front with a glass-door display cabinet to the right. Corner pantry cabinet in kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

Ordered to match the “Seneca Briarwood”  Rustic Beech cabinetry from our Koch Classic line, this front and two panels were used to assemble the corner area. The homeowner even installed a motion-sensitive light on the interior so that when the pantry doors are opened, the lights turn on. After just a few minutes they automatically turn off. Walk-through pantry fronts are fantastic because you can truly customize your shelving behind them any way you would like. Click play to see the pantry!

While we didn’t do any of the install work for this kitchen, we knew the project was in great hands by a VERY skilled carpenter (who has installed countless projects for our customers). Wait until you see some of the extra work that he put into making this kitchen completely customized for them. This display cabinet with mullioned glass doors got an extra custom detail added to the interior shelves.glass cabinet shelvesThe center section of the finished shelves was routed out to accommodate tempered glass inserts. Now the light installed at the top of these cabinets can pass through the glassware AND the shelves completely! Across from the pantry storage zones of the kitchen is the main prep area of of the kitchen. The sink, dishwasher and cooking areas are all found here.sink

koch all wood susan corner cabinet. | VillageHomeStores.comEach of the base cabinets on this wall is full of fantastic storage solutions perfect for any kitchen. The corner of the peninsula includes a lazy susan cabinet to access the entire corner space for storage. Note that there is no center pole in this susan design. Instead, a fixed center shelf has a susan resting directly on it. The base cabinet to the right of this susan is a space designed for storing baking sheets and cutting boards. Instead of the expected metal or wood center divider, a slide-out tray is installed. Because the walls of this tray are tall, nothing will tumble out  when you pull one from the cabinet.slideing tray divider cabinet. | VillageHomeStores.com

pull out trash cabinet. | VillageHomeStores.comPull-out trash cabinets have officially moved from the “specialty” cabinet category and have instead become so expected of any new design we rarely sell a space that doesn’t include one. Many times we are even installing more than one. The double-bin option allows you to sort recycling at the time you are cleaning up. At the very end of the peninsula area is wide stack of drawers. The top section has been ordered with two top drawers in place of one wide drawer.two top drawers in cabinet. | VillageHomeStores, com

Wood silverware dividers have been added to the right top drawer. Deep drawers below offer a lot of extra storage. Many items are now available right within reach of this great new prep space. The tile backsplash in this kitchen is a subway tile in an “Almond” color by Daltile. The mosaic insert is called “Rocky Beach” by Glazzio. offwhite subway tiles. | VillageHomeStores.com

The field tile is bright and the mosaic is the perfect blend of colors that can be found throughout the new kitchen. Our Diode LED undercabinet lighting helps showcase this tile. The main sink wall of the new kitchen includes a new Whilrpool range and microwave hood. This range is a front-control electric range with convection oven. We love how the front-control design allows for a smooth and sleek area where the range meets the backsplash. Whirlpool front control stove. | VillageHomeStores.com

This Whirlpool unit comes with the new Frozen Bake™ feature. Read more about this timesaving feature on this past blog post. Above this range is a combination microwave hood also from Whirlpool. With 400 CFMs and 2.0 cu. ft. of interior capacity it is a great choice! The surrounding cabinet design is eye-catching from all entrances into the new kitchen. Whirlpool microwave hood combination. | VillageHomeStores.comFluted details on either side of the hood are the perfect place to catch the “Black” accent glaze that has been applied to these cabinets. This accent glaze is also a great way to help allow the design to combine Stainless Steel appliances with Oil-Rubbed Bronze cabinet hardware. The accent glaze highlights the door details and even the rustic knots found in the wood. The dark finish of the hardware is right at home with this combination. Dark Hickory flooring adds extra drama to the overall look.hickory hardwood dark finish. | VillageHomeStores, com

This Hickory hardwood floor from our Hallmark Flooring line is stunning in person. The dark contrast to the cabinets looks rich and the “Sagebrush” finish is perfectly at home with the accented Rustic Beech cabinets. One of our favorite parts of the new kitchen isn’t even a cabinet! We must also point out the handwork by this homeowner in this chalkboard area he created.

custom chalkboard. | VillageHomeStores.comHe used just a few pieces of Rustic Beech trim to create a custom magnetic chalkboard area on the refrigerator wall. The lower section of molding even can hold a piece of chalk. What a great way to “extend” the cabinetry finish into a functional piece right between the kitchen and the dining areas. Moline Remodel: The 9 Cabinet Kitchen Update

Kitchen remodeling Quad Cities. | VillageHomeStores.comThis kitchen remodel in Moline, IL may be small but it is very mighty! A great example of how Village Home Stores can get you your dream kitchen no matter what the size of the space is. Pairing great products with a high-functioning design makes this kitchen a HUGE upgrade in a small space. There is an area in Moline, IL that is full of galley kitchens just like this one (HINT: the neighborhood rhymes with “Clodette”). Space is limited in these homes and Village Home Stores has made the most of the space with this Before & After story.
Small built-in dishwasher. | VillageHomeStores.com

To put it into perspective of the size of the galley kitchen, above is a photo of the new space with the dishwasher door adjacent. Just enough room to move around the open door if needed.

The main sink wall shown here showcases how gorgeous product selections can make an eye-catching first impression. Cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the “Prairie” Shaker-style door has been painted in the “Pearl” finish. A Black accent glaze has been applied and helps give a subtle tie into the Black appliances and sink used in the new kitchen. Take a look at a before photo of this same space:

Light Oak cabinetry and gray laminate countertops filled the original kitchen. There is a large window above the kitchen sink that allows lots of fantastic natural light into the kitchen throughout the day. The finishes in this kitchen are beautiful but these homeowners get most excited when they get to use the new space. Below is a birdseye view of the new design from Village Home Stores:

Kitchen remodeling Quad Cities. | VillageHomeStores.com

It is difficult to show this kitchen layout in a single photograph, so seeing this birdseye view should help give an idea of how the two walls of cabinetry are arranged. The refrigerator and range each stayed in the original locations. It is so important to have a functional design when you are working in a small space. This means all doors and drawers need to fully operate. The range and dishwasher are staggered in location so that if both doors need to be accessed they are available.
Whirlpool 18" dishwasher built in. | VillageHomeStores.com

In the original kitchen, a portable dishwasher was located between the refrigerator and range. This gave a small landing space for loading and unloading the refrigerator as well as a prep and landing space for the user at the range. With the redesign of the kitchen came the opportunity to include a built-in dishwasher.
before_dw

A compact built-in dishwasher from Whirlpool® that measures 18″ wide (compared to a 24″ wide standard dishwasher model) has been installed. This tall-tub model in a compact size is perfect for a remodel like this. If in the future a dishwasher is no longer desired, an 18″ cabinet can be replaced in the space. A pull-out trash cabinet or a single door and drawer unit would work well here.

At first glance you may have thought  the countertops in this new kitchen were a natural stone. While they look a lot like a granite, these are actually Formica® laminate tops. The 180fx® series of laminates can really bring an upscale look to any project. The “Lapidus Brown” design selected for this home is a wonderful and versatile choice. With many neutral colors included in the pattern, you can pair it with painted finishes as well as many wood finishes. Be sure to also check out this featured kitchen that included a Marble look laminate.

A great way to give the look of a granite countertop is to select an edge profile that won’t show a seam in the laminate. The “Futura” edge style selected for this project wraps the laminate color over and under the front edge of the material. This gives the look of a smooth, polished stone edge. An Elkay “E-Granite” sink in a black finish has been dropped into the new laminate tops. These sinks are extremely durable and give a great look to any project.

Another way to give a granite “fake-out” look to your laminate tops is in the backsplash area. Laminate countertops can be ordered with what is called a “post-form” backsplash built into the top. This gives you a 4″-5″ coved area of laminate where the top meets the wall. By ordering the tops without a backsplash, the tile can be installed directly down to the top. This is a look more commonly seen with a “slab” of granite installed in a kitchen.

An angled end cabinet is installed to face the user at the sink. This gives a space for display and helps keep smaller items off the countertops. With the end cabinet “clipped” or angled, this makes the wall cabinets not “crowd” into the window. Bringing the wall cabinetry all the way up to the ceiling helps these homeowners gain an added storage all around the kitchen. Leaving enough space for a standard-sized crown molding also helps give this kitchen a polished look. Our Koch Classic line offers wall cabinetry in heights between standard sizes to make this look possible. No more narrow, un-reachable (and impossible to dust) area between the cabinets and ceiling!

Nothing shows off a space better than our Diode LED lighting system. The new countertops and glass 3″ x 6″ subway tiles by Interceramic are fully showcased in the new kitchen. Day or night, this lighting system is perfect. Task lighting when needed or dimmed for a nightlight, this LED system is always one of the first things mentioned when we ask a customer to list their favorite part of the new space.

kitchendrawersWith just 9 cabinets to work with, you need to truly get the most functional design possible. Narrow kitchens like this don’t need the added obstacle of having to open doors first, then slide out shelves. Drawer storage can add function to just about any space. Think of a desk you may see in a workspace. Most of the accessible cabinet storage within that desk is found in a drawer. With limited space, you don’t need doors swinging into it. Keep in mind that a small stack of drawers like the one shown to the left here, is typicaly found in a kitchen design no matter what the size is. Have you considered though, a stack of drawers as a large base cabinet?

In the case of this kitchen it isn’t just a large base cabinet…. it is THE ONLY large base cabinet. Why choose drawers then? Let us show you! Take a look at everything that fits within this 39″ cabinet!!!kitchen_moline

Pots and pans storage, small appliances plus a split top section with two top drawers. A drawer for silverware and one for other items. This frees up the smaller stack of drawers opposite it for linens, cooking utensils and pantry item.pantry

Speaking of pantry items, would you believe that in this small kitchen there was space for a tall pantry cabinet? By moving the dishwasher over to the sink wall, there was now some added space next to the refrigerator in the new design. You would be surprised at how much you can fit into a 15″ wide pantry cabinet like this. The slide-out shelves to this tall unit are adjustable to make the cabinet very versatile. The pantry cabinet also acts as a way to give the refrigerator a more built-in look. A 24″ deep wall cabinet above the refrigerator offers even more storage space for small appliances and extra items. wall_cabinets

Whirlpool appliances Quad Cities. | VillageHomeStores.comA 30″ wide gas range from our Whirlpool line is also found on this wall. This range is a standard width and size, but just like this kitchen it packs a large punch when it comes to features. The capacity of the oven measures 5.1 cu. ft. This provides plenty of room to help you manage all of your large cooking tasks. The continuous cast-iron grates cover nearly the whole cooktop surface, giving you the flexibility to easily slide heavy pots and pans to optimal cooking locations. The grates are dishwasher-safe, and their satin finish resists wear and tear. Varied burners below those grates including one 5,000-BTU AccuSimmer® burner. This gives you precise temperature control perfect for melting chocolate or simmering sauces.

tile_installers_molineHaving the gas range tight against this corner in this small layout made it necessary to protect the wall surface next to it.  The glass subway tile was extended out from the backsplash to reach to the very front of the cooktop surface. Now any splatters or spills can be wiped clean from the tile or sealed grout.beforeandafter

Kitchen Remodel: A Lot To Be Thankful For

tileThis Thanksgiving, we know the “Hostess with the Mostest” and she happens to live in Geneseo, IL. We can’t think of a better week to share this recent kitchen remodel with you than the Thanksgiving holiday because it is the ultimate space for entertaining and preparation. These customers have waited many Thanksgivings to get to experience the one they are about to host in their new kitchen from Village Home Stores.
Kitchen remodeled by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

Just look at this open, warm and inviting kitchen! It is hard not to feel comfortable in the new space and we can only imagine how good it must smell right now from all of the holiday foods getting prepared and served from it.  At the very heart of the new kitchen is a large single-level island with and overhang fit to host two seated guests. This single piece of Cambria Quartz in the “Walton” design is not only the ideal work surface, it is in the best location for all zones of the new kitchen.

This 4′ x 6′ island top is within reach of the fresh food storage zone, kitchen clean up zone, and both the cooking and baking zones. Speaking of those cooking and baking zones, we think those might be the areas that most Thanksgiving hostesses would be jealous of in this kitchen… beginning with the three ovens available in this new design.
KitchenAid double wall ovens with True Convection. | VillageHomeStores.com

A 30″ wide built-in unit from KitchenAid offers two ovens for use. When you consider the True Convection features included in each of them, this built-in unit can bake six racks of items at the same time at a consistent temperature within the cavities (each 5.0 cu. ft. in size). Imagine getting your Christmas cookies baked all in one session!

But wait….we said three ovens right? Well directly across from the double wall oven in the island is a built-in microwave also from KitchenAid. This model of built-in microwave also includes convection features. Making it a fully-functioning third oven when needed.  It even broils. For those handful of times throughout the year when you wish you had another location for prep or even warming items, imagine having three!  This kitchen is not just ideal for baking. The cooking area of the new kitchen is the visual focal point of the space.cooking_center

Surrounded by great features and prep space, the 5-burner gas cooktop by KitchenAid includes a lot of burner options and is only a 30″ wide unit. Full-width cast-iron grates make it easy to move from a high BTU burner over to a simmer or secondary location. The cooktop is set into a a base cabinet that has a unique layout. This layout allows for a large pots and pans drawer below and a sliding shelf to access the space behind the doors above.

The “reverse” drawer layout gives a unique look and helps create interest along with the decorative feet that have been added to the space. Above the cooktop is a decorative wood hood with a beautiful wood mantle and carved corbels. Hidden within the hood cabinet is a Broan hood insert that has been fitted with a re-circulation kit.
broan_hood_insert

With plenty of “landing space” on each side of the cooktop, you have a lot of prep area if needed. The large island countertop is directly behind the user in the cooking zone but the pathway between the two areas is large enough that multiple users still won’t feel crowded.  A pull-out cutting board is located right within reach of this zone.

With such a large, multi-functional island, it had to also look as amazing as the rest of the kitchen. It is at the center of all activity AND attention after all. Decorative support brackets were installed underneath the countertop overhang. These helps give a custom look and also allows added opportunity for the black accent glaze to show some detail. The cabinetry in this kitchen is from our Koch Classic line and is a Birch wood stained with the “Briarwood” finish and a black glaze has been applied.

Above the island two large 3-light chandeliers hang. These lights by Feiss add a lot of style and allow your eye to look through and beyond them into the kitchen. Selecting the right quantity and scale of lighting above an island can be difficult on your own. One of the advantages of having our own lighting department in-house is your kitchen designer and lighting expert can work closely with you to find the perfect choice for your project.

With so much to tour in this great new space we can’t forget the work that went into creating it. There were multiple walls removed and a lot of sub-contractors to coordinate. Our Full Project Management program was the perfect way to keep this project organized and stay on track for completion. High-ceilings were already a great feature in the original kitchen, but the kitchen itself was tucked behind walls and closets that kept the space from the great open concept you toured above.remodel_kitchen

If you look at the wood flooring and carpeting in the photo above, you can see the ghost of the original walls that crowded the kitchen and front entry to the home. Village Home Stores arranged for a new front closet to be added and all new trim and doors for this completed space. The header you see at the center of the ceiling pitches was installed due to the walls removed.

Geneseo Remodel: Shine Bright

Village Home Stores kitchen blogYou may be picking up on the theme of our last three featured kitchens here on the blog, beautiful backsplashes! It just happens to be a coincidence that they all have shared this common feature. The backsplash in this Geneseo, IL home steals your attention right away so we wanted to begin our story here.

Mosaic tile backsplash. | VillageHomeStores.comThis “Cappuccino Linear” tile from our Pietra Art collection is a showstopper in person! You can find the most beautiful tile like this for your kitchen backsplash but installing that only gets you halfway to a “wow” finished look like this. Why invest in such a gorgeous tile if you have no way to illuminate the look and all of your new surfaces? The wash of light from our Diode L.E.D. lighting system is what makes this main wall of cabinetry look so stunning!

diode_LEDThis system is energy-efficient, low-profile, and long-lasting. It may seem like we mention this lighting everytime we show you a beautiful backsplash but that is because they are meant to work together.  Kitchens like the one featured in the blog post here would be hard to imagine without this lighting system.  The way to shine bright and really show off your great tile is by also installing this L.E.D. system.  See a short clip on it here over on our YouTube page. Now, on to this full remodel story.

before_photo

Kitchen_Design_quad_citiesThe original kitchen was made up of the main sink wall shown here and a second area for the range and a small microwave cabinet. There are three windows and three doorways that are within this kitchen space. Usable wall space is limited because of these openings but the new design makes smarter use of what was available. The old location of the range will now become the new location for a beautiful built-in hutch area. Adding storage and a location for displaying items behind glass-front doors, this hutch also gives added counter space for food preparation and serving.

This hutch includes two fluted columns that show the black accent glaze on the Birch “Briarwood” stained cabinetry perfectly. These dark black highlights are a great compliment to the Cambria Quartz countertops installed in the “Blackwood” design.

hutch_in_kitchenThe new location of the range is found between the two windows facing the sink wall. This area is just the right size for the range and a small amount of landing space on either side.

rangeNot only have we added counterspace but storage above and below with cabinetry on a previously unused wall in the original kitchen. The main storage in this new kitchen is found on the sink wall.mainThe sink is at the center of your attention and the backsplash and lighting we mentioned earlier are what bring your attention there. With no window above the sink, the designer instead created interest with varied heights and depths of cabinetry. At the very end of this wall of cabinetry sits the refrigerator. This is a great opportunity to point out the depth of this model.

refrigeratorWhen you shop for a new refrigerator from Village Home Stores one of our first questions may be what depth you are needing. This means we are curious if a “standard depth” model would work in your space or is a “counter-depth” model needed because of space limitations or just aesthetic reasons.  The standard depth model works well here because there is plenty of space to move around in front to the unit in this kitchen design. We have even surrounded this refrigerator with a few extra things to help give it as built-in of a look as possible. Notice the panels on each side and even undercabinet molding above to add to the finished look of this area.

woodsVillage Home Stores and Durian Builders did a number of things to this space to update it and give it a great look. Each of the windows was trimmed out with new casing stained to match the cabinetry. The doorways were also given new trim and the two new doors within the new kitchen were installed as well all to give one clean, consistent finish throughout.

A maple hardwood from our Paramount line in the “Burlap” finish was the perfect selection with the cabinetry and trim finishes.  One of the other major updates was made to the ceiling of this Geneseo kitchen.

ceilingA grid drop-ceiling that included panels and lighting was removed and a new plaster ceiling was put up. This entire kitchen remodel was completed with our full Project Management program here at Village Home Stores.  Everything from estimates to scheduling was managed from start to finish by our team which left the owners of this new kitchen with nothing to worry about (except welcoming a new grandbaby during the process Congratulations!).
