Colona, IL- Lakeside Home Gets a Refreshing New Remodel

Not every before and after remodel story involves removing walls to get a new layout. This lakeside home in Colona, IL is the perfect example of what we mean. To get the new kitchen design to “open up” here, we actually closed off one of the walls. Take a look at the before and after below to see the doorway that was closed off in order to create a full U-shaped layout for the new kitchen:
kitchen before and after in Colona, IL. Remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

What a transformation! Now this wall has become the main focal point of the new design with this hood surround at the center of all attention. Koch Classic Cabinetry in the “Legacy” doorstyle and “Pearl” painted finish with “Umber” Highlight have been paired with Cambria® Quartz counters and a stylish new Stainless Steel appliance package from KitchenAid®. There is so much great storage and style in this kitchen that we HAD to include it in an episode of the Village Home Show just to have the opportunity to show you around in detail. The original kitchen was in desperate need of more drawers for storage. This new layout includes many drawers in the kitchen perimeter as well as the new kitchen island. Press play below to see for yourself.

When you choose to work with Village Home Stores you can expect to get the best experience available from our expert staff. This includes how you are able to visualize your project during the designing and material selection stages. Below are the design renderings that were presented to this customer in those first few meetings: rendering

Helping you visualize the full concept of your design is a responsibility we take very seriously. It is why you can’t just walk into our store and leave an hour later with a professional design. We are a Kitchen and Bath Design Center. When you set an appointment with us we want you to be so thrilled with your experience from that very first presentation all the way until the final walk-through. Our process may take longer than other stores but we believe that every project deserves the same care and attention no matter what the size. Building a home or remodeling, neither is a process that should be rushed. The hood concept for this kitchen is not ordinary by any circumstances. The look was achieved by building an arched surround for the Cherry wood hood and then tiling the surface with four different 6″ x 24″ Ecowood tiles. The end result is breathtaking and unique!

Unique kitchen range hood surround. | VillageHomeStores.com

Concealed within the Cherry wood hood is a Broan hood blower insert. Not to be ignored right below this new hood area is a KitchenAid® slide-in gas range packed full of style and features! This gas range boasts 5 gas burners on the cooktop ranging from 5,000 to 19,000 BTU’s. Get flawless baking results with convection features in the oven and take advantage of added features like a wireless probe and a steam rack within the oven. Would you believe us if we told you this model is also technically a DOUBLE oven?! That drawer below is not just for storing bakeware or warming dishes!

KitchenAid® has taken the concept of a warming drawer to a whole new level. Introducing the innovative new baking drawer. This separate compartment allows you to keep warm, slow cook or bake at a different temperature from the main oven and keep dishes warm. This range sits atop a wood-look luxury vinyl tile from our Mannington® Adura Plank line. The “Ashford Walnut” color might fool you in these photographs but trust us, even in person you will not believe this isn’t hardwood. Adura Plank Luxury Vinyl Tiles (also known as LVT’s) are durable, scratch-resistant, waterproof, and easy to clean.  The sink wall of the new design has changed dramatically once the doorway to the nearby Living Room was closed off.

The refrigerator was moved to the opposite end of this sink wall and an undermount copper farmhouse sink is the new eye-catching detail of this section of the new design. An arched valance in the toespace of the sink base cabinet is an added design detail that helps set the look off. This copper sink will begin to age with a beautiful patina and become a character piece in the new kitchen.

This copper farmsink has been under-mounted to new Engineered Quartz countertops from our Cambria® Quartz line. The quartz design selected for this project is named “Langdon” and the 1/2″ rounded edge profile has been applied to the tops. The veining and charactor of a slab of natural granite, but all of the benefits of maintenance-free quartz. Cambria® is the perfect material for this project. The large island top is the best showcase of the pattern and colors:

The new kitchen island is a large surface for preparation, and entertaining. The cooktop used to dominate the old island counter surface but now the island is versatile and stylish. outlets on each end of the island are camouflaged in color to allow access to power when needed but not steal from the finished look of the applied door paneled ends. The doorway into the new kitchen was widened to open up the space. A peninsula was installed at the entrance to provide more storage and counter surface as well as an overhang to accommodate seated guests.
Before and After images of a remodeled kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

This new widened entrance with a peninsula has changed the overall layout and function for the kitchen. Above the peninsula overhand hand two decorative pendant lights by Kichler. This couple chose to install the “outdoor” pendant style of this light because they included this beautiful seeded glass. We think the lights are perfect!

Shown behind the lighting in the image above are two X-shaped wine cubbies. Plenty of wine storage is easily accessible from either side of the peninsula when entertaining. When guests enter the new kitchen design they get the illusion that instead of a peninsula and an island, this kitchen has two islands. This look is achieved by having the complete island in a Cherry “Mocha” stain plus the back and end of the kitchen peninsula has been installed in that same “Mocha” finish.

The Cherry “Mocha” stain from the island and peninsula is repeated in the wood hood area. Two-tone look kitchen designs have come a long way in the past few years. You are not just limited to contrasting crown or an island. Ask you designer what creative ways you could include a second finish in your own design.

The cooking center of this new kitchen is stylish and extremely functional. Not only are there incredible features on this new KitchenAid® gas range, the storage and surfaces surrounding it grant the user the best experience possible. Everything is right within reach including a tray divider cabinet and pullout spice rack. There is available countertop surface on each side of the hood surround and access to that incredible new Island top directly behind the user.

Geneseo, IL- Tailor-Made and Transitional

Take a look at any magazine cover or browse kitchen ideas online and you will discover very quickly that A white painted kitchen is still the current look. Our design sales staff from Village home stores teamed up to create a magazine-ready finished look at this Hazelwood Homes Inc. home built in Geneseo, IL. White painted kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.comPainted “Oyster” Maple cabinetry in the “Savannah” door from our Koch Classic line is paired with a KitchenAid Stainless Steel appliance package. Warm and full of a variety of wood tones, this Hickory hardwood flooring from Sommerset’s “Character Collection” anchors the look in the “Saddle” finish. lightingPainted cabinetry and selections like these Kichler pendant light fixtures above the island help keep the space light and airy. This is a surprising success considering how many large cabinets that have been included in the design. In new kitchens we have began to expect to see a refrigerator surrounded with panels and cabinetry that stretches to the ceiling. Kitchen_design

Tall pantry cabinets and wall ovens are becoming more commonplace in kitchen designs that have the space allowance for them. This kitchen is in a new construction project, so space was available for whatever layout options the new homeowners were wanting.

Tailor-made Tall Pantry Cabinets

The layout of the two tall units on the hood wall was arranged by “stacking” varied styles and sizes of wall cabinets in place. Within the Koch Classic line, our kitchen designers are able to work with the factory to then build these units as a single item in place of shipping them all individually.
main_kitchen2

cabinetInstallers certainly would prefer to work with a single cabinet in place of four, but we admit this cabinet was built with the finished look in mind. The true motivation for having these tall cabinets built as a single unit instead of individual items is to achieve a seamless and customized look. Speaking of custom look, these cabinets are not something you can just walk into a “Big Box” store and purchase. Unique to this kitchen, a combination of doors and drawers surround a double wall oven on one side of the wall, and a full floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinet on the opposite wall.

To mirror the visual “weight” of the double oven cabinet to the left, a tall unit was designed with a versatile storage space within. This tall unit on the end also helps visually cap off the “end” to the kitchen perimeter in the Great Room space.Pocket doors in kitchen cabinetry. | VillageHomeStores.com

The center of this tall cabinets space has been fit with “pocket” doors that can roll back into the open void. This space was designed for microwave or television area that could be hidden away behind doors when not in use. Add a slide-out shelf on the bottom of this space and you could even house a roll-out coffee station like this example in Bettendorf, IA.

Custom Wainscot Panels

Another way to give your kitchen or bar area a custom tailor-made look is to have a wainscot panel made to the finished dimensions of your island.

wainscot_panelsA similar look can be achieved with a smooth panel and trim. A true custom wainscot look looks as seamless as possible and the best way to get that look is to have a panel made to fit. Another custom detail can be found where the flooring meets the island. The baseboard molding used to surround this island was not baseboard molding at all. The same “Crown Riser” trim used to achieve the stacked molding look on the wall cabinets was used as a basebord.

crownGreat design is always found in the details. Details like an edge profile that matches exactly on the crown molding, door and drawer edges, and even the baseboards. That is a design detail perfectly planned out. Speaking of details all working together, take a look at this magazine-ready hood area.

At The Center of All Attention…

Located right at the center of all activity is a 36″ wide 5-burner gas cooktop with a 36″ wide chimney-style hood above. Beveled subway tile. | VillageHomeStores.com

This 3-speed canopy hood by KitchenAid is nothing out of the ordinary but when placed in this setting, it steals your attention right away. What is helping grab your attention to look at the hood wall is the backsplash tile found there.

tileWhite subway tile continues to be as popular as white painted kitchens. But we mentioned before to pay attention to the details on this project. Any of the “dream kitchens” you might have saved to Pinterest or Houzz include white subway tile? Revisit some of your favorites to see if that tile is a “beveled” subway tile. How can a long wall of white cabinetry with white tile still seem to have a lot of depth and style? The answer is texture. By using a beveled subway tile in place of a standard 3 x 6 smooth look, shadows are formed on the surface. This adds a tone-on-tone dimensional look to the wall. A range accent section of tile has been added and the same Carrara Marble material used as the island countertop is repeated here. countertops

Cararra Marble was installed as the island countertop in an “Eased” edge profile. Cambria Quartz counters surround the perimeter of the kitchen in the “Dunmore” design.  This Hazelwood Homes Inc. kitchen has all of the details to make it a great finished look. Eldridge, IA Remodel- Cool Neutral Choices Shine

eldridge_kitchen_remodelThis kitchen remodel in Eldridge, IA has been transformed from dated oak to a cool neutral tone of materials.   Another great example of how simply updating your layout and materials can give you an entire new space without any major construction.
Dura Supreme Pearl Painted Kitchen with Slate Accent. | VillageHomeStores.com

This L-shaped layout is large enough to accommodate an island or even a portable island if one is desired in the future. For this Eldridge, IA couple it is perfect leaving the open space. Cabinetry from our Dura Supreme line has  been painted a “Pearl” finish and a “Slate” accent has been applied with a low sheen. The “Kendall” doorstyle from Dura Supreme is a great choice for an accented finish. Allowing the raised center panels of the doors to be highlighted with the “Slate” color.Praa Sands Cambria Quartz With White Cabinets. | VillageHomeStores.comWe absolutely love the countertop selection made for this project. Do you favor brighter whites and a hint of grey? Thinking of adding a “spa-blue” paint color to your walls or accessories? The subtle blue green color that runs throughout these Cambria Quartz “Praa Sands” tops might be perfect for your project! Proof that you can keep a “neutral” color palette  and still introduce color into your space.  The customers mentioned that they loved accessorizing it with WInter and snow elements and look forward to popping some blue accents in for Spring. lighting_on_offYou know we can never pass up an opportunity to show you just how amazing our Diode LED undercabinet lighting is. Even in the middle of the day in a bright white kitchen like this it makes a world of a difference. It perfectly shows off the space and gives you an incredible wash of light for tasks at the counter. A backsplash tile has been installed along the entire L-shape.  A 3″ x 6″ Subway tile in a white gloss finish is accented by a band of “Aqua Mix” glass and stone deco tile.
Corner Sink In Kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

A corner sink is not something we have shown that often here on the blog. They do continue to be a great option for certain projects. With proper planning and space, you can still get a double-well sink in a corner sink configuration. This under-mounted Elkay sink is what is considered a 50/50 configuration. This means there are equal sized compartments. Egranite composite sinks are extremely durable and offer a great alternative to an undermount Stainless Steel sink.
corner_sink_shelf

Available in 5 color options and many other layouts and sizes, Egranite sinks are a great choice for your kitchen sink. Corner sink installations also give you the available space for a shelf in the corner behind the sink. This elevated area can be used for a number or tasks and the shelf ads a little easier access to the area. The small surface between the sink countertop and the raised shelf can be covered with either tile (shown here) or a small piece of your countertop material.
Painted Kitchen | VillageHomeStores.com

Because the sink is located in the corner of this kitchen, a long span of countertop space is available on the main wall.  Anyone with limited counterspace in their own kitchen can take one look at this stretch of workspace and may get just a touch jealous. The counters aren’t the only great thing about this wall. The cabinet on the far right is full of great storage.
tiered cutlery divider. | VillageHomeStores.com

The split- top drawer section of this basecabinet has been fitted with a Tiered Cutlery Divider from Dura Supreme. This feature gives you full access to the entire drawer area and keeps utensils organized. Below that are two large drawers that work great as Pots and Pans Drawers. Keep pots, pans, and their lids all organized in these wide drawers.
big_drawer_storage

A Tray Divider cabinet may be a standard and expected item to see in any new kitchen but take note of the size of this one. Many times a narrow 9″ cabinet can be enough space for storing your baking sheets and trays. Because of the location of this cabinet, a wider tray divider was selected. With Dura Supreme Cabinetry our designers can call out the width desired and they are not limited to “standard” 3″ increments. This wider cabinet now gives the user at the cooktop more landing space on either side of the range.
traydivider

We mentioned earlier that we did not do to much construction to the main space of this kitchen. The soffits above the wall cabinetry remained. A custom look was still desired for the wall cabinets. Similar to what we would do in the case that your cabinets reach all the way to the ceiling, a full-sized crown was specified for the design.
crown

Allowing space for a full-sized crown molding above the wall cabinetry helps give the overall kitchen a more complete and polished look. Now the cabinetry looks “built-in” below the soffits. Speaking of a “built-in” look check out the refrigerator wall!
refrig_surround

pantryThis niche area includes space for a full-sized French-Door refrigerator. Surrounding the refrigerator are two tall pantry cabinets. Between the two 24″ deep tall cabinets is a 24″ deep cabinet above the refrigerator. This section of the kitchen now offers so much great storage. Each pantry cabinet is fit with 4 slide-out shelves. These shelves are perfect for pantry storage because each shelf can be adjusted. Having the option to adjust the height for taller boxes or containers is fantastic. The shelving is also full-extension so you are able to access the entire depth of the shelf when loading and unloading items.  The top section of tall pantry/utility cabinets is a great location for small appliances you are not wanting to leave on the counter.

Geneseo Remodel: Kitchen Turns a New Corner

remodel_geneseoThis featured kitchen remodel in Geneseo, IL gives a new layout that includes designated zones to help keep clutter to a minimum for this busy household.
Geneseo kitchen remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores

Any busy household could use some help when it comes to the subject of clutter control. “A place for everything and everything in its place”. That’s a great concept to embroider on a pillow but even with a brand new kitchen, let’s be realistic. Take a look at this design solution. A large-item drop zone area. This is easily our most favorite part of the new design.
Kitchen drop zone from Village Home Stores.hook

Kitchens tend to be located by the entrance used most by residents of the home. Where do you throw all your stuff when you walk in the door? Including a drop zone area in your kitchen design can help to give your items a built-in place to rest. This design includes a cabinet above, two coat rack cubbies with hooks, and storage drawers below. The drawers below become the perfect location for this family to store petfood and supplies.

A matching beadboard panel has been installed to the back of this bench drop zone area. The ridges of the Birch beadboard help dress up the look of the coat cubbies when nothing is stored there. Hanging two-sided coat hooks from the bottom of the cabinet area above gives bulky items more space to hang. Have you ever heard a friend or family member complain they didn’t have enough drawers in their kitchen? Well imagine how jealous they would be of this corner of our featured remodel.

This new kitchen design “wraps” the corner as it transitions into the drop zone area. The stack of drawers found right at the “turn” of the corner adds even more storage for non-kitchen essentials. Because this drop zone area is located right at the center “hub” of the home, any number of items can be stored here that might be needed. Take a look at a “Before” photo from this Geneseo kitchen just to see how much it has changed:before

Dated cabinetry, hardware and tops have been completely upgraded for a stunning new look. Rich “Mocha” stained Birch cabinetry has been installed in the “Savannah” Shaker doorstyle from our Koch Classic line. If you love the look of this Cherry look on a more affordable wood species, be sure to check out this other featured kitchen on the blog. crown_molding

The refrigerator in the new design has been moved to the sink wall. A small landing space of countertop has been included to the left of the Stainless Steel Whirlpool refrigerator. Hidden within the cabinet is a charging station. Including specified zones for devices is another way to keep kitchen counter clutter under control. Whirlpool refrigerator WRF736SDAM13 | VillageHomeStores.comdepthThe new refrigerator has been surrounded with matching Birch end panels. It is important to note that even though the design has “built-in” the new refrigerator, it still extends out into the space. Be sure to discuss counter-depth vs. standard-depth refrigerator models choices with your kitchen designer and appliance salesperson at Village Home Stores. This layout does not demand the clearance or look of a counter-depth model. Because of that, a full-depth model that offers 25 cu. ft. of storage can be used for this new Geneseo kitchen. Counter-depth refrigerator models can look great and be a space-saving option but don;t forget you do lose capacity when compared to a standard-depth model.pantry

Directly across from the new refrigerator is a tall pantry cabinet. This cabinet has been fitted with adjustable slide-out shelves. In place of cabinets with slide-outs surrounding the range, two large drawer stacks have been included. Now all baking items, pots and pans, and lids are within reach of the cooking zone of the kitchen. full viewCambria WinchesterThe new hardwood flooring in this featured kitchen is beautiful. A Hickory wood from Hallmark’s “Chaparral Collection” has been stained in the “Sagebrush” finish. Other materials from this featured remodel include Cambria’s “Winchester” design quartz tops and a mosaic tile accent strip that truly ties everything together. Working with Village Home Stores gives you the piece of mind that your kitchen will look great. We build a whole team of salespeople just for your project, That way all of the finishes and materials function and look fantastic!

Kitchen Remodel: A Lot To Be Thankful For

tileThis Thanksgiving, we know the “Hostess with the Mostest” and she happens to live in Geneseo, IL. We can’t think of a better week to share this recent kitchen remodel with you than the Thanksgiving holiday because it is the ultimate space for entertaining and preparation. These customers have waited many Thanksgivings to get to experience the one they are about to host in their new kitchen from Village Home Stores.
Kitchen remodeled by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

Just look at this open, warm and inviting kitchen! It is hard not to feel comfortable in the new space and we can only imagine how good it must smell right now from all of the holiday foods getting prepared and served from it.  At the very heart of the new kitchen is a large single-level island with and overhang fit to host two seated guests. This single piece of Cambria Quartz in the “Walton” design is not only the ideal work surface, it is in the best location for all zones of the new kitchen.
large_kitchen_island

This 4′ x 6′ island top is within reach of the fresh food storage zone, kitchen clean up zone, and both the cooking and baking zones. Speaking of those cooking and baking zones, we think those might be the areas that most Thanksgiving hostesses would be jealous of in this kitchen… beginning with the three ovens available in this new design.
KitchenAid double wall ovens with True Convection. | VillageHomeStores.com

A 30″ wide built-in unit from KitchenAid offers two ovens for use. When you consider the True Convection features included in each of them, this built-in unit can bake six racks of items at the same time at a consistent temperature within the cavities (each 5.0 cu. ft. in size). Imagine getting your Christmas cookies baked all in one session!
KitchenAid built-in convection microwave. | VillageHomeStores.com

But wait….we said three ovens right? Well directly across from the double wall oven in the island is a built-in microwave also from KitchenAid. This model of built-in microwave also includes convection features. Making it a fully-functioning third oven when needed.  It even broils. For those handful of times throughout the year when you wish you had another location for prep or even warming items, imagine having three!  This kitchen is not just ideal for baking. The cooking area of the new kitchen is the visual focal point of the space.cooking_center

Surrounded by great features and prep space, the 5-burner gas cooktop by KitchenAid includes a lot of burner options and is only a 30″ wide unit. Full-width cast-iron grates make it easy to move from a high BTU burner over to a simmer or secondary location. The cooktop is set into a a base cabinet that has a unique layout. This layout allows for a large pots and pans drawer below and a sliding shelf to access the space behind the doors above.

The “reverse” drawer layout gives a unique look and helps create interest along with the decorative feet that have been added to the space. Above the cooktop is a decorative wood hood with a beautiful wood mantle and carved corbels. Hidden within the hood cabinet is a Broan hood insert that has been fitted with a re-circulation kit.
broan_hood_insert

With plenty of “landing space” on each side of the cooktop, you have a lot of prep area if needed. The large island countertop is directly behind the user in the cooking zone but the pathway between the two areas is large enough that multiple users still won’t feel crowded.  A pull-out cutting board is located right within reach of this zone.
cutting_board

With such a large, multi-functional island, it had to also look as amazing as the rest of the kitchen. It is at the center of all activity AND attention after all. Decorative support brackets were installed underneath the countertop overhang. These helps give a custom look and also allows added opportunity for the black accent glaze to show some detail. The cabinetry in this kitchen is from our Koch Classic line and is a Birch wood stained with the “Briarwood” finish and a black glaze has been applied.
kitchen_island

Above the island two large 3-light chandeliers hang. These lights by Feiss add a lot of style and allow your eye to look through and beyond them into the kitchen. Selecting the right quantity and scale of lighting above an island can be difficult on your own. One of the advantages of having our own lighting department in-house is your kitchen designer and lighting expert can work closely with you to find the perfect choice for your project.
kitchen_island_lighting

With so much to tour in this great new space we can’t forget the work that went into creating it. There were multiple walls removed and a lot of sub-contractors to coordinate. Our Full Project Management program was the perfect way to keep this project organized and stay on track for completion. High-ceilings were already a great feature in the original kitchen, but the kitchen itself was tucked behind walls and closets that kept the space from the great open concept you toured above.remodel_kitchen

If you look at the wood flooring and carpeting in the photo above, you can see the ghost of the original walls that crowded the kitchen and front entry to the home. Village Home Stores arranged for a new front closet to be added and all new trim and doors for this completed space. The header you see at the center of the ceiling pitches was installed due to the walls removed.

Orion Remodel: Island Living

island_titlecardThis kitchen remodel in Orion, IL begins like so many in our area. Oak cabinets, existing soffits, a wall keeping the kitchen contained and a peninsula. I am sure many of you readers have or have had a kitchen similar to that description. Take a look at where this story began….

before_kitchenLook familiar to anyone? While there is nothing at all wrong with this kitchen look, it is the common description attached to many of the remodels we do when a home is ready for an update. But now see where this project has ended up!

orion_kitchen

Koch cabinets in the “Legacy: doorstyle and painted “Pearl” finish with “Umber” highlights are installed on the main kitchen wall and large island in the Birch “Java”  finish are both topped with Cambria Quartz in the ‘Windermere” design. The doorway into the kitchen has transitioned into an open concept to the front room and dining space nearby. The soffits that extended to the ceiling were removed and now a staggered height design is in place to make this main wall of the kitchen look magazine-cover ready!

island_backA large island roughly 7 1/2′ x 4′ in size makes a great new location for prep, dining, cleanup, and entertaining. This kitchen island is now at the center of all activity in this kitchen. Even with a large crowd congregating around the back of this arching island shape, guests will be no bother to the users in the main prep areas of the kitchen. As you may have seen on the latest episode of the Village Home Show, this island is usable from all sides. The back “paneled” face actually includes usable cabinets 2′ deep. Each island side also has a functional cabinet as well.large island

The new island is now home to the kitchen sink and it also includes one of our favorite features, a garbage disposal button. Disposal buttons can be wonderful in island sink designs because a switch would otherwise have to be located in the cabinet beneath or on a wall behind the user. This feature is instead within reach and works at  just at the push of a button.

disposal_buttonTwo people can now easily navigate around the back wall of cabinetry and the island sink area, even if the dishwasher or refrigerator door is opened. Directly behind the sink and centered in the main wall of cabinetry is a Maytag cooktop below a wood decorative hood. In place of a large stack of drawers or a sinkbase cabinet for the cooktop, an inverted base cabinet was used.

inverted sinkbase cabinetA tall, deep drawer on the very bottom of the cabinet for pots and pans leaves a wide open space above for the cooktop components above. Adding a sliding shelf can make this open space even more usable. See this cabinet in action over on our YouTube channel here.

Village_home_showIf you caught our newest episode of the Village Home Show you were able to see a full video tour of this beautiful Orion kitchen. Since the episode was focused specifically on the kitchen island and lighting above it, you may not have noticed something was missing… something pretty big. Take a look at our designer working with the customer the day of filming in the image above. They were brainstorming about selections of backsplash for the kitchen. What they ended up selecting is perfect:

orion_tile_installerThis combination of a neutral 3″ x 6″ tumbled marble field tile and a framed in accent tile above the cooktop grabs your attention right when you walk in the front door of this home. If a second tile is not a look you are after, consider this same layout but instead frame in your field tile installed going a different direction. Another great idea is to select a smaller or larger tile from the same series to install withing this framed space.

tileThese tiles were selected as a perfect compliment to the gorgeous new Cambria Quartz counters in the new kitchen. The darker field tile picks up on the veining in the Cambria design and the accent tile framed in is more similar to the cabinet finish. The roped pencil rail that creates that framed look matches so well with the cabinet handles and knobs and looks right at home in this kitchen.

ogee_cambria_edgeThe upgrade to an “Ogee Edge” profile on the Cambria “Windermere” Quartz tops really catches the light and your eye. The arch of the island overhang and the bumped-out look of the cooktop each look highlighted by this added edge detail. On the far left end of the main kitchen wall is an appliance garage cabinet that extends all the way down the countertop.

hidden_keurigThis cabinet opens with a top-lift hinge that can stay open to allow the hidden coffeepot within to be pulled out and tucked back away when not in use. See this cabinet in action over on our YouTube channel here. On the opposite end of this main kitchen wall is a new combination microwave and wall oven from our Maytag line.

combo_microwave_oven

The location of this tall, deep cabinet mirrors the refrigerator in size on the other side of the cooktop and hood area at the very center of the design. We wanted to be sure to mention another important element to this successful remodel. A layered lighting plan. lighting

This same room can be used any time of day and still offer ample task and ambient lighting. Our Diode L.E.D. system has been installed under and above the cabinetry on the back wall. Three medium-sized pendants spread the length of the kitchen island and recessed cans have been installed to light the back wall and the island itself.

This entire project was managed from start to finish for these Orion customers using the complete Project Management program here at Village Home Stores.  This means that all of the estimates, schedules, and crews were managed by us and this project stayed on track and was completed in as reasonable timeframe as possible. Moline- Mythbusting Remodel Project

Moline_remodelNot every remodel project we take on involves a full dumpster of old cabinets and drywall. Many of the kitchen transformations that happen week to week from our store involve just a few steps or stages and none of them include removing a wall of tearing out soffits. Not every project or budget allows for such an involved process. Truth be told, not every customer wants to go through the “full” remodel process. This remodeled kitchen in Moline is a perfect example.

Moline_kitchen_remodelThe layout of the existing kitchen worked well for this family but they were in need of an updated look without a huge mess. Many of our blog readers can relate to an existing Oak kitchen that just looks tired and ready for a change. Let us walk you through what we did to help this Moline couple get the finished look you see above. First a brand new kitchen island was installed from our Dura Supreme line.

new_island_frontThe cabinets are built from a Knotty Alder wood and finished in a “Peppercorn” stain. Many times customers shopping for an island think there are set standard sizes and styles of island cabinets. That is not the case. We can design a kitchen island to be perfect for your exact space and needs.

new_island_backThis island consists of just three base cabinets, paneling, and trim. Your designer from Village Home Stores can help you decide what cabinets would be perfect for your island. In this case, two wide stacks of drawers on the interior were included for a lot of added storage. Outlets were also included on each end of the island to make prep and entertaining easier.

TorquayNew countertops are the second element that went into this kitchen remodel. Cambria Quartz now covers the entire perimeter of the kitchen as well as the new island all in the “Torquay” design. A standard “Eased” edge profile was used. Anytime you are investing in replacement countertops it is an ideal time to replace your kitchen sink and faucet as well. How beautiful is this new sink?

truffleWe have installed a number of this new finish of sink by Blanco called “Truffle”.  The color is a perfect neutral taupe and pairs well with Stainless, Pewter, and Oil-Rubbed Bronze faucet finishes. The layout of this undermount sink is a 60/40 divided space.

iPad_in_kitchenThere is no Cambria backsplash installed so that the full 18″ from counter to cabinet can be filled with a beautiful new backsplash. A warm and bright “Calacatta Gold” 1″ x 2″ backsplash tile surrounds the kitchen. and even extends up around the window trim and end wall.

diodeThis remodeled Moline kitchen is another classic example of how our Diode under-cabinet lighting system can make a gigantic impact on your new space. These photographs were taken during the day but you can still see just how much of a showcase it puts the new backsplash on. Just take a look at our last feature kitchen to see another example of this incredible lighting system.

new_susanWhile this may look like a brand new kitchen the original Oak perimeter cabinetry was painted to give it a fresh new look. We also installed a brand new lazy susan in the existing corner cabinet of the kitchen. By painting the cabinets, replacing the counters, and installed a new island and backsplash this kitchen looks completely new!
