Heartland Builders- Spring Parade of Homes 2017

This Spring we have the great pleasure to have our designs and products included in a number of homes in the Quad Cities Builders & Remodelers Association Spring Parade of Homes. We share a lot of remodel stories here on the blog but we also put our designs and product into new construction homes. We wanted to share some tours of these homes to give you a look at what “New Construction” looks like in the Quad Cities region. This home built by Heartland Builders is in Bettendorf, Iowa. Heartland worked with us and purchased all cabinetry, counters, appliances, and lighting for this home from our store. Let’s begin a tour with the stunning kitchen.
White painted kitchen cabinetry by Koch paired with Cambria Bellingham quartz tops in a Bettendorf kitchen. Design by Village Home Stores for Heartland Builders. | VillageHomeStores.com

A clean and classic look! White painted cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the “Ridgegate” doorstyle is paired with elongated subway tile, quartz countertops, and a KitchenAid® appliance package. A U-shaped layout with a centered island creates an open and functional space for multiple users and can accommodate many guests within the great room. The focal wall in the design is the back wall that is home to a 48″ chimney-style hood and a 48″ wide, dual fuel 6-burner range with griddle by KitchenAid® .

This commercial-style range offers features that any home chef can love along with easy-to-use basics. Convection features may sound intimidating to navigate but this model includes EasyConvect™ Conversion to help you adjust times and temperatures. 6-burners on the cooktop plus a chrome griddle that is easy to clean. Oven capacity is one of the best parts of including a commercial style range in your design.

The combined left and right ovens add up to 6.3 cu. ft. of space! With convection features you can use all of those racks at once if needed and still get consistent results! One “leg” of the U-shape includes a center glass-door cabinet and a long countertop space. This gives a built-in hutch look, and offers a great location to be used as a sideboard to serve food from or set up a beverage station.

The other “leg” of the kitchen is where the tall built-in section of appliances are. A tall, 24″ deep cabinet offers lots of storage and a center section is fit with a convection microwave oven. A stainless steel trim kit frames in this microwave for a built-in look. KitchenAid®’s built-in 42″ wide French Door refrigerator.

The built-in unit installs back with the cabinetry face frame surrounding it. This offers a much more customized a sleek look compared to a standard-depth model that would project into the space by a handful of added inches.

A center kitchen island includes lots of added storage and a pull-out wastebasket cabinets. Having your wastebaskets centrally-located and right on a corner make it so much easy for guests to find them or get direction to them. A dishwasher is also found in the island alongside a Stainless Steel farmhouse sink.

Quartz countertops in Cambria’s “Bellingham” design are a stunning selection. The blend of neutral colors and gray veining add to the classic look of this kitchen. Once installed, Cambria is maintenance free and a wonderful choice for this entire kitchen. A single handle kitchen faucet has been installed and a garbage disposal button is located right above the sink in the countertop.

The same “Ridgegate” door from the kitchen has been painted in Koch’s “Taupe” paint. An “Ebony” accent glaze helps showcase the edges and details of the doors and drawers. Vanity cabinetry and a tall linen cabinet have been installed for a beautiful look with wall-to-wall mirror above the sink area. Sconces from our Kichler line are mounted directly through the mirror. Quartz counters in the “Mont Clair White” design are a beautiful blend of the cabinetry and tile colors in the bathroom. This entire home was furnished and staged by Calla located in Davenport, IA.

Geneseo, IL- White Kitchen With Matte Black Granite Tops

We are so excited to share this kitchen feature with you because we know that this finished space is a perfect match to many of our reader’s own taste. When the term “Farmhouse” or “Modern Farmhouse” gets used that can truly mean a number of things. Just like any style term, it can mean something different to each person. But when your home has panoramic views of the Midwest countryside plus all of these great farmhouse details we think Modern Farmhouse is just the right fit.

We hope to be able to share this full kitchen story on the Village Home Show sometime soon. And who are we kidding? You came here to see the finished kitchen! For the sake of this blog feature we do want to give you some sense of how far this space has come during the transformation. The original kitchen and dining room spaces were divided by a center wall. The cramped kitchen had cabinetry in a medium wood with dated countertops. Bottom line: the busiest room of the house did not match this family’s lifestyle or reflect their personal tastes. beforesThe complete Project Management program at Village Home Stores is available for those who are ready for not just the expert design and material selection, but our entire proven process. We coordinate everything from the very beginning until the final walk-through. Estimates are prepared in detail based on meetings involving ALL PARTIES. That helps to keep the scheduling and communication as seamless as possible once work begins. This kitchen remodel involved a full team of experts from Village Home Stores along with carpenters, electricians, plumbers, plasterworkers, flooring, and tile installers.duringThe end result is a show-stopping take on the Modern Farmhouse style. Now the kitchen has opened up into a large great room space including a dining room, a desk/bar area, and nearby family room. A long kitchen island provides a versatile space for storage, worksurface, and even dining. Farmhouse painted white kitchen remodeled by Quad Cities kitchen experts Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

Natural light pours into the space from the sliding glass doors facing the back of the property. New light oak hardwood flooring has been installed throughout and it is the perfect platform to showcase the new kitchen and furnishings. The floor is from Hallmark Floors in their “Novella” series and “Twain” finish.
hallmark-Novella

The hardwood gives a natural look and feel to the room but without too much wild variation in color from plank to plank. Bright white painted cabinetry from our Koch Classic line has been installed in the “Savannah” doorstyle. The classic, flat-panel door is the perfect choice for any Transitional kitchen space. This door is considered a “reversed center panel” door. That means that this center (flat) section is not thin or flimsy. Instead it is a thick, raised panel reverse-installed to make a very solid, sturdy door. An over-the-counter microwave by Sharp® includes 1100 watts and 1.5 cu. ft. capacity.

Would you believe that a kitchen we are calling “Modern Farmhouse” doesn’t have a farm sink!?! It’s true! We think this kitchen checks all the right boxes without needing one! A Stainless Steel sink has been undermounted to the granite tops and a single drill kitchen faucet with pull-out sprayer has been installed.
A Geneseo, IL kitchen with brushed Black Pearl granite counters. | VillageHomeStores.com

The main focal point of the back wall is the new chimney hood area. This 30″ wide Stainless hood extends all the way to the ceiling and so does the beautiful new tile. “Glossy White” Subway Tile from our Soho series in a classic 3″ x 6″ size has been installed throughout the kitchen. Installing the tile within this entire hood area creates a bright, glossy texture and the shape of the tile helps to draw your eye.
A Geneseo, IL kitchen with stainless hood and subway tile all the way to ceiling. | VillageHomeStores.com

As a contrast to the white glossy tile, a matte finished granite has been selected for the kitchen counters. “Black Pearl” granite in the “Brushed” finish almost gives a leather look to the tops. Matte black accents are a huge trend moving into 2017 and in this kitchen that trend is made classic. A standard “Eased” edge has been applied to the granite slabs. Brushed finished granite add a touchable texture and help to soften the look of stone counters.

The center island in the new space boasts a large countertop surface but also a lot of great storage below. Located at the very center of all activity it is the perfect place for pots and pans storage as well as small appliances and items for food prep. The top center drawer has been ordered to include a divided top drawer for flatware and cutlery.

The base cabinets with doors have been fit with adjustable slide-out shelves. These are ideal for storing pots and pans or keeping other containers and dishes with lids organized. Having this kitchen island directly behind the range area creates a wonderful available surface for prep as well as unloading the double oven when needed.
A Geneseo, IL kitchen with Koch cabinets and slideout shelves. | VillageHomeStores.com

Outlets have also been installed on the end of the kitchen island for easy access for small appliances. These outlets aren’t only there for a mixer or blender…consider this island in your own home. Would you mind setting up your work-from-home office here or a homework station? If you need a device charged or a laptop plugged in the outlet is right there. It is important to note that many kitchen islands have become the center of ALL activity. That includes working for many people. If the island isn’t the right space to work at there is a desk area designated just across the room.
A Geneseo, IL kitchen with desk and bar area. | VillageHomeStores.com

A stack of drawers and counter surface has been dropped down to “desk height” and this workspace is still within eyesight or earshot of anyone working in the kitchen. Two full-height door cabinets and a glass-front beverage cooler complete this wall of cabinetry with a versatile location perfect for entertaining. Setting up this counter as a beverage station will be perfect when guests are over. It will not be in the way of anyone working in the kitchen.  Now a cold drink is just a few steps inside from the patio doors.

The carpentry work for this remodel was completed by the crew at Durian Builders. They teamed up with  Reclaimed Salvage who provided the reclaimed barnwood for these awesome floating shelves. We want to give a special shout out to the homeowner who also took on some projects for this remodel. The family room was given a new wall treatment and the pantry barn doors turned out amazing! We were so thrilled to help make this space better fit this family in function and style. They were wonderful to work with.farm-kitchen-style

All of the cabinetry, flooring, appliances, and lighting for this home are from Village Home Stores. We love the blend of gray finishes that were selected for the kitchen design. A light gray painted finish from our Koch Classic line named “Fog” has been applied to the perimeter cabinetry in the “Savannah” doorstyle. The large kitchen island is formed with cabinetry in the “Charleston” doorstyle and the Rustic Cherry island has been finished in the “Driftwood” warm gray stain. The mix of grays is complimented by the rest of the finishes in the space:

Stainless Steel appliances from our KitchenAid line, and an engineered quartz countertop named “Fossil Gray” is installed throughout the kitchen. Mercury Glass pendants from Feiss hang above the island and all of this rests upon gorgeous new engineered wood flooring.

Adding a simple detail to a classic look can really add a lot of interest. This kitchen includes a classic 3″ x 6″ subway tile. By selecting a beveled subway tile in this kitchen, light can bounce around on the surface and this white-on-white look has an added dimension. Instead of ending where the hood begins, the tile is extended behind the new Stainless chimney-style hood up to the ceiling.

At the center of attention on this feature wall is a double oven gas range by KitchenAid. The combined oven capacity is 6.0 cu. ft. of space providing more room to cook multiple dishes at the same time. The bottom oven includes a SatinGlide® Rack that operates smoothly allowing effortless loading and unloading, even with large or heavy dishes.

Across the kitchen is a wall of cabinetry that includes a built-in Sharp microwave drawer unit below the countertop, Microwave drawers work well in an area that have a work surface above them for loading and unloading the unit. To the right is a 29 cu. ft. refrigerator by KitchenAid. This model is packed with innovative storage options and features to help your food stay fresher longer.
Mixed grays and woodtones in kitchen design including White Oak flooring named Barnwood. | VillageHomeStores.com

The engineered wood floors are the perfect variety of color to compliment all of the other finishes in the room. The darker grain and stain on the “Barnwood” finish picks up on the island finish. The Rustic Cherry island is at the center of the design and certainly the center of all attention once you enter the kitchen. When viewed from the Dining area the back of this island has been given a detail treatment with an “X” motif.
X styled back of island treatment in kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

This “X”  look and finish suggests a “farmhouse” look but with the overall design and selections, it is a sophisticated modern farmhouse look. With so many open-concept kitchens in a painted white finish, it is so refreshing to see something new and interesting in the mix. the selections and styles throughout are all classic and everything looks right at home with the furniture throughout the main level of this new Bettendorf home.

Davenport, IA Remodel: Upgraded and Accessible.

This Davenport, IA kitchen has received a whole new look! The entire remodel process was managed from start to finish with the Complete Project Management Program at Village Home Stores. Upgraded layout features and a stunning selection of materials, welcome to our latest featured kitchen remodel…
Davenport, IA remodeled kitchen with grey cabinets and Stainless appliances. | VillageHomeStores.com

Knotty Alder cabinetry from our Dura Supreme line has been stained in the “Cashew” finish. The “Arcadia” doors have received a “Coffee” glaze to help accent the door details and rustic features of the Knotty Alder. A sophisticated Stainless Steel suite of appliances by KitchenAid offers a great finished look and exceptional features. Cambria Quartz countertops in the “New Quay” design have a classic and neutral range of colors. Press play below to watch the episode of The Village Home Show that includes a full video tour of this completed space:

This entire space is furnished with a warm grey palette of materials in a variety of tones and textures. Before we show you around the new space, check out this before photo of the original kitchen:
before

What a transformation of style and space! The original kitchen was an L-shaped layout with a small dinette area. A wall divided this kitchen space from an adjacent Dining Room. The new layout opens up the kitchen into that available Dining Room area. Take a look at this design rendering from the presentation stage of this remodel project:Kitchen Designers in the Quad Cities. | VillageHomeStores.comThis is the view into the new design from the Dining Room table. The cooking center of the kitchen has been moved to the original dinette area and a peninsula of base cabinetry caps off the end of the kitchen in the new open-concept design. The refrigerator stayed in the same location but the cabinets surrounding it have been selected to better use the space. The wall that now includes a gas range and chimney-style hood has been upgraded from a “meh” dinette space to a magazine-cover worthy new look!
Grey stained cabinets in kitchen with Stainless appliances. | VillageHomeStores.com

This wall has now become the focal point of the entire new space. If the sleek look of the new range and chimney-style hood doesn’t grab your eye, the backsplash design sure will! A “Cascade” mosaic series of tile from our Glazzio line has been installed throughout the kitchen as the main backsplash. The “Diamond” series in a complimentary color spans the entire space behind the range and hood. KitchenAid’s freestanding slide-in gas range with Even-Heat™  True Convection features flawless baking results. The EasyConvect™ Conversion feature takes guesswork out of convection cooking by converting conventional settings for recipes to convection settings for you as you enter in the recipe’s temperature and contents. This cooking center of the kitchen was designed so that items and prep space can all be within reach of the range. Large deep drawer stacks are on either side and two pull-out spice racks flank the range unit. Click play below to see one of these pull-outs in action:
This same pull-out concept can be installed in a shallower wall cabinet or in bathroom vanity setting. Shown here full of spices it is easy to picture use in a busy kitchen. Consider this same cabinet in a master bathroom. A pull-out cabinet can be the perfect way to store makeup and hair products. Even appliances like flatirons or blow driers can be stored perfectly in a “grooming rack” cabinet.  In the new sink area of this Davenport, IA kitchen a pull-out towel rack was installed. Click play below to see this innovative option:
A rack for hanging towels and shelving above and below all offer space for cleaning supplies. Knifeblocks, tray dividers, and even pegboards for utensil storage all can be located within a pull-out unit. We have many of these examples on display in our Geneseo, IL showroom so stop in to see them in person. The new sink wall turns a corner into a peninsula area where the original dividing wall once stood. The back of this peninsula is now visible from the Dining Room and Living Room areas. Finishing off the cabinetry with a decorative end panel and matching doors for the back help give the the peninsula a completed look. If you look closely you will notice that the cabinet door against the wall has a handle. Access to storage below this countertop overhang has been included.
Decorative end panel on the end of a kitchen peninsula. | VillageHomeStores.com

The accessible storage on the back end of the peninsula is there due to cabinet choices made on the inside of the kitchen design.  In the corner of this design the customer wanted to include wide drawers in place of a lazy susan or other corner cabinet option. The sinkbase cabinet and drawer stack each meet in the corner and leave enough space on the end of the peninsula for a wastebasket cabinet. As we mentioned previously, pull out cabinets come in a variety of internal layouts from Dura Supreme. Wall and even tall pantry cabinets can include pull-out features but by far the most popular pull-out cabinet from this or any of our cabinetry line is a wastebasket cabinet.
Dura Supreme Cashew stain with Coffee Glaze. | VillageHomeStores.com

Dura Supreme builds their pull-out wastebaskets to hold the bins near the floor of the cabinet. This gives the bins a more solid and sturdy space once they are full, and make loading and unloading trashbags easier. Above the peninsula two pendant lights have been installed. These “Neillo” mini-pendants by Kichler Lighting hang directly above the kitchen peninsula where a wall once divided the kitchen and dining spaces. Now that the two areas are one open concept, a 3-light fixture from the same series has been installed above the Dining Room table. Our lighting experts at Village will help you decide the best size, quantity, and style of lighting for your new space.
Kitchen lighting pendants above peninsula. | VillageHomeStores.com

The original kitchen in this Davenport, IA home did not include enough accessible pantry storage space. A solution for the new design was to include a tall and wide pantry cabinet fit with adjustable slide-out shelves. The customers didn’t want to have a microwave hood take any of the design impact away from that great cooking center wall. They also wanted to use every available inch of base cabinet space for easily accessible storage.  A small landing space was created to the right of the pantry area that is large enough to accommodate a large-capacity countertop microwave.
grey kitchen cabinets. | VillageHomeStores.com

Below this landing space is a wide stack of drawers used to store plates, bowls, and mugs. Village Home Stores offers a wide range of cabinet lines. With each line of cabinets you have the ability to upgrade cabinet construction and drawer box options. The “drawer guides” are the hardware that allow that drawer box to move in and out from the cabinet frame.
Drawers for dishes and mugs. | VillageHomeStores.com

This kitchen was ordered with “dovetailed” drawer boxes and full-extension guides. This means that when the drawer is all the way “open”, you have full access to the entire drawer box. These same full-extension guides have a soft-closing feature included. The soft-close feature makes it impossible to ever “slam” a drawer shut. A soft-close door hinge was also included in this kitchen. Anything from light tap to a forceful swing, all of the doors in the new space close slowly and quietly. above_pantry

This kitchen was remodeled from start to finish and from floor to ceiling. With walls being removed, a new ceiling was required and with a new footprint to the kitchen layout, new flooring was in order! This flooring choice is absolute perfection! A high-end look and an eye-catching application, Provenza Hardwood was installed at an angle. This “Antico Vintage” floor is the exact shade of all of the glazed detail on the knotty alder cabinetry. Provenza Hardwoods are hand-scraped AND hand-stained. In fact everything about Provenza Hardwoods is handcrafted. There is no machined work involved. This may add some time to receiving the product, but in turn it certainly ads to the value of your investment! provenza_flooring

Geneseo, IL- Tailor-Made and Transitional

Take a look at any magazine cover or browse kitchen ideas online and you will discover very quickly that A white painted kitchen is still the current look. Our design sales staff from Village home stores teamed up to create a magazine-ready finished look at this Hazelwood Homes Inc. home built in Geneseo, IL. White painted kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.comPainted “Oyster” Maple cabinetry in the “Savannah” door from our Koch Classic line is paired with a KitchenAid Stainless Steel appliance package. Warm and full of a variety of wood tones, this Hickory hardwood flooring from Sommerset’s “Character Collection” anchors the look in the “Saddle” finish. lightingPainted cabinetry and selections like these Kichler pendant light fixtures above the island help keep the space light and airy. This is a surprising success considering how many large cabinets that have been included in the design. In new kitchens we have began to expect to see a refrigerator surrounded with panels and cabinetry that stretches to the ceiling. Kitchen_design

Tall pantry cabinets and wall ovens are becoming more commonplace in kitchen designs that have the space allowance for them. This kitchen is in a new construction project, so space was available for whatever layout options the new homeowners were wanting.

Tailor-made Tall Pantry Cabinets

The layout of the two tall units on the hood wall was arranged by “stacking” varied styles and sizes of wall cabinets in place. Within the Koch Classic line, our kitchen designers are able to work with the factory to then build these units as a single item in place of shipping them all individually.
main_kitchen2

cabinetInstallers certainly would prefer to work with a single cabinet in place of four, but we admit this cabinet was built with the finished look in mind. The true motivation for having these tall cabinets built as a single unit instead of individual items is to achieve a seamless and customized look. Speaking of custom look, these cabinets are not something you can just walk into a “Big Box” store and purchase. Unique to this kitchen, a combination of doors and drawers surround a double wall oven on one side of the wall, and a full floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinet on the opposite wall.

To mirror the visual “weight” of the double oven cabinet to the left, a tall unit was designed with a versatile storage space within. This tall unit on the end also helps visually cap off the “end” to the kitchen perimeter in the Great Room space.Pocket doors in kitchen cabinetry. | VillageHomeStores.com

The center of this tall cabinets space has been fit with “pocket” doors that can roll back into the open void. This space was designed for microwave or television area that could be hidden away behind doors when not in use. Add a slide-out shelf on the bottom of this space and you could even house a roll-out coffee station like this example in Bettendorf, IA.

Custom Wainscot Panels

Another way to give your kitchen or bar area a custom tailor-made look is to have a wainscot panel made to the finished dimensions of your island.

wainscot_panelsA similar look can be achieved with a smooth panel and trim. A true custom wainscot look looks as seamless as possible and the best way to get that look is to have a panel made to fit. Another custom detail can be found where the flooring meets the island. The baseboard molding used to surround this island was not baseboard molding at all. The same “Crown Riser” trim used to achieve the stacked molding look on the wall cabinets was used as a basebord.

crownGreat design is always found in the details. Details like an edge profile that matches exactly on the crown molding, door and drawer edges, and even the baseboards. That is a design detail perfectly planned out. Speaking of details all working together, take a look at this magazine-ready hood area.

At The Center of All Attention…

Located right at the center of all activity is a 36″ wide 5-burner gas cooktop with a 36″ wide chimney-style hood above. Beveled subway tile. | VillageHomeStores.com

This 3-speed canopy hood by KitchenAid is nothing out of the ordinary but when placed in this setting, it steals your attention right away. What is helping grab your attention to look at the hood wall is the backsplash tile found there.

tileWhite subway tile continues to be as popular as white painted kitchens. But we mentioned before to pay attention to the details on this project. Any of the “dream kitchens” you might have saved to Pinterest or Houzz include white subway tile? Revisit some of your favorites to see if that tile is a “beveled” subway tile. How can a long wall of white cabinetry with white tile still seem to have a lot of depth and style? The answer is texture. By using a beveled subway tile in place of a standard 3 x 6 smooth look, shadows are formed on the surface. This adds a tone-on-tone dimensional look to the wall. A range accent section of tile has been added and the same Carrara Marble material used as the island countertop is repeated here. countertops

Cararra Marble was installed as the island countertop in an “Eased” edge profile. Cambria Quartz counters surround the perimeter of the kitchen in the “Dunmore” design.  This Hazelwood Homes Inc. kitchen has all of the details to make it a great finished look. Before we look at some of those upgrades lets take a look at the structural changes made to this kitchen. The original kitchen included a wall of cabinetry that surrounded a range and hood unit. This wall divided the kitchen from the Living Room area.

kitchen remodel before and after. | VillageHomeStores.comWe began by opening up this wall to include the new kitchen with the living areas of the home. Removing this wall and all of the soffits above made such a huge difference in the finished kitchen. The birdseye view of the new kitchen design (below) shows how a new bar-height top fits into the newly opened kitchen plan. birdseye_view

Relocating the sink and range locations represented some of the design choices made to get the best working layout for the now open room. Keeping appliances in their original locations can help when you are trying to keep within a project budget. But this is one design upgrade that was worth it. Now that this kitchen opens up into this great room there is no better place for the sink than right here. Dark Java stained kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

Moving the kitchen sink to this new spot facing the guest areas of the home was a great choice. Let’s now take a look at some of the amazing upgrades made to get this upscale look beginning with this sink.black_sink

An undermounted sink is such a desirable element of a kitchen. If you have ever had one I am sure you would not be easily convinced to go back to a drop-in style. Wiping the counters clean with a single swipe into the sink is a huge benefit. The kitchen sink happens to be an Elkay composite granite sink so it is just as durable as it is beautiful. This matte-finished black sink is mounted to beautiful new counters.quartz

Quartz countertops in a kitchen we are boasting is budget-conscious?!? Yes! We currently have a series of Quartz countertops at an incredible price in your choice of 9 colors including this popular “Tundra” color. Let us price this Quartz for your project. You will be pleasantly surprised by the numbers you will see especially if you have been shopping high-end laminate options or solid-surfaces. Before we get to the cabinetry let us look down to the flooring for another upgrade made that was no extra cost at all.

A 1/4 turn tile pattern for your kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.comThis Luxury Vinyl Tile, or “LVT” as we call it, has been installed in a 1/4 turn pattern. A basic pattern would have also looked great with this “Linea” Cream Mannington LVT, but this extra detail sets it off. The pattern of the LVT and the direction changes create a basketweave look and add an eyecatching result with no extra material required. Read more about LVT in this past blog post.

Microwave cabinet. | VillageHomeStores.comSoft-close hinges. | VillageHomeStores.comCabinetry represents such a significant portion of any kitchen project. Our Koch Express line was selected for this project. The “Lexington” doorstyle in the rich Birch “Java” finish has been upgraded with soft-close, dovetailed drawers and even soft-close hinges on the doors.

Our Koch Express line can also be paired with certain pieces from our Koch Classic line.  That is how the angled end cabinet upgrade was made to the end of this wall of cabinetry.  This angled look gives a visual upgrade from the expected square ends available from Koch Express.

Angled end cabinets. | VillageHomeStores.comThe glass tile backsplash was also a beautiful material selection for the kitchen. Feature Kitchen: Weather or Not?

weathered_cabinetsPrefer the smooth look of a painted kitchen cabinet? Or is a rustic weathered look more your taste? How about a perfect blend of each!? Our newest display kitchen in the Village Home Stores showroom is today’s featured kitchen! This kitchen was our booth display for this Winter’s Quad Cities Builders and Remodelers Association Home Show. It was a huge success making impressions at the show and has already become our new favorite now that it is at home here in Geneseo.

Village_Home_StoresAnytime a single kitchen display can showcase two styles and finishes of cabinetry it helps us and our customers out when shopping in the showroom. This combination of finishes looks so incredible as a big picture project we know we will be installing many similar to it all over the area. We posted last week how the trend of using gray finishes in the kitchen is showing that it has some real staying power. With many years ahead and more and more options launching very week, gray is the perfect choice for an island accent like this display features. We mixed both color and texture in this case:oysterwithsmoke

The island perimeter cabinetry for this kitchen is from our Koch Cabinetry line. The smooth painted “Oyster” finish has been accented with a “Smoke” glaze. This gray accent is perfect when paired with the backsplash, stainless appliances and the island from Dura Supreme. The island cabinetry is a rustic “Weathered E” Cherry finish. Dura Supreme has gone above and beyond to bring our customers amazing options with their Weathered Heirloom, and Heritage Painted series of cabinetry.

weathered_kitchen_islandIslands make the perfect place for a more textured look and finish, With many of our customers wanting a furniture-style design (like this display includes). An island is a perfect pop of color and while the idea may seem bold, the result seems right at home once the whole project is in place. We also selected two styles of hardware to compliment the cabinet choices for this display:

cabinet_hardware_quad_citiesThis weathered cherry island is something you truly need to see and feel in person. At the home show no invitation is needed to walk up and touch it. We watched people at the show walk from all the way down the aisle and right up to it to touch and see what the wood was.  The same thing kept happening with this display’s backsplash.Village_Geneseoflooring_on_wallIf it wasn’t the island cabinetry and top, the other most asked (and touched) part of this display was the wood “fake-out” tiles on the wall. These tiles give a look and texture that ties in perfectly as a compliment to the island finish. This material is actually a porcelain floor tile that has been installed as a backsplash. The tile is from our Paramount line in the Sandal Wood “Ocean Breeze” design. With the Diode undercabinet lighting system installed, the wood-look tile steals your attention right away! The KitchenAid® chimney-style hood becomes the focal point of the wall. Our most popular 30″ gas cooktop from KitchenAid® has a total of 5 burners below.

An apron-front farm sink doesn’t have to look “Traditional”. With the right setting it can have a more modern style. This Stainless Steel farm sink is a great example of just that. A white cast-iron sink would be to bold of a contrast in color and keep the island from having that solid, furniture look that we get with the look in our display.

stainless_farm_sinkNot only are the cabinets in this kitchen different but the countertops are as well. In this kitchen we paired Arabesque White with Natural Soapstone. We had so many questions about the soapstone top that we will be sharing a full product profile post on soapstone on the blog next week.arabesque white

island_lighting_quad_citiesWith an island this incredible and a focal wall like the one we have here, a subtle light fixture was the right choice for this kitchen. This kitchen design could warrant the use of so many types and styles of island lighting. Your possibilities are truly endless. This transitional style fixture from Kichler compliments the metal finishes from this kitchen as well as the length and shape of of the island. Two large pendants would also work well here and frame in the centered sink and hood on the wall behind the island.

While we love showing you our newest display kitchen in a tour here on the blog, you really need to stop by and see (and feel) it in person! The weathered cherry and soapstone in this island are stunning in person. Call or click today for an appointment to get started on your project!cabinets_Geneseo (1)
