Rock Island Kitchen Remodel With Blue Accent Island

This home in Southwest Rock Island was ready for a more updated and opened up design. While the home had an interesting layout, the kitchen still seemed separated from other nearby rooms because of a dividing wall. The Village Home Stores design and project management team took the original U-shaped layout and replaced it with a spacious new L-shape and large island. Take a look at this amazing new kitchen!

The large kitchen island has an overhanging countertop with space to seat four comfortably. Nearby is a dinette area where we built in a bench seat below the window. This new bench includes added storage drawers that match the kitchen cabinetry. Now these customers are shopping for a new casual dining table that can use in this corner. Many of our remodel customers want to maximize storage as much as possible with a new layout. Including bench seating within your island design or along a wall is a great way to create a seamless and custom look while adding storage.

The main kitchen includes an L-shape layout with the cleaning, cooking, and refrigerator zones. The new wall cabinets stretch to the ceiling and include a stylish crown molding detail. Crown molding, undercabinet molding, and added details like the fluted columns framing in the microwave space all help to create a stylish take on a traditional kitchen design.

Not every kitchen layout can allow a corner lazy susan cabinet. In the case of this kitchen, a susan in the corner would have moved the kitchen sink away from the center of the window. A “blind corner” cabinet can be used in this instance to allow usable space on one side, and a standard cabinet on the other. Our cabinet vendors offer many specialty options to help maximize your accessible storage. Press play below to see the swing out shelving option we included in this kitchen corner cabinet.

White painted kitchens remain to be a best-selling choice across all regions in our industry. Of course if you have ever gone to select a white paint for a project, you quickly realize there are MANY shades to choose from. The same is the case in our cabinetry selections. A stark “White” paint may not be what you are after. We have some that are a warmer Ivory or Pearl finish, and others that lean toward a cooler gray tone. This kitchen is the “Oyster” painted finish from our Koch Cabinetry line. In this home, the Oyster paint has been given a “Smoke” highlight to enhance the edges and molding details. We love the look of this finish. The Smoke highlight is such a great compliment to metal finishes as well.

The long kitchen island is installed in the same Legacy doorstyle as the kitchen perimeter. The “Charcoal Blue” paint is a rich contrast to the Oyster kitchen. This Charcoal Blue painted cabinet finish is among our top selling accent colors for cabinets. We have sold many kitchens, bathrooms, home bars, and laundry spaces in the Quad Cities area in this finish. Take a look at the hardware selected for this kitchen. How perfect are the stacked edges of the “Calloway” handles with the edge profiles of the cabinet doors and drawers!?

The blue accent color was also used on the wall surface of the kitchen. Elongated glass tiles from Glazzio’s Aristocrat Harbor Series are stunning! The “Dim Afternoon” color takes the tone of the blue cabinet finish and adds a glossy finish and texture to the overall kitchen. A beveled edge to the tiles bounce and reflect light and shadows and add a lot of style to the space without introducing multiple new colors.

The cabinet handles are a Satin Nickel finish and that is a perfect compliment to the Smoke highlight of the cabinet paint and the Whirlpool Stainless Steel appliance suite in the new kitchen. A new Whirlpool dishwasher, beverage cooler (in the island), electric range, microwave hood, and refrigerator have been installed in this new kitchen. The microwave hood included is the new low profile model available from Whirlpool. This hood takes up a similar height footprint to a standard under-cabinet range hood, but includes a 1.1 cu. ft. microwave in it! Wish your current hood was a microwave? This may be the model for you! Contact a team member at Village today!

The refrigerator in the new kitchen is surrounded by a great pantry cabinet on one side, and an end panel on the other. To assure that the space between the kitchen island and this refrigerator was as open as possible, a counter-depth model was purchased. Counter depth refrigerators can save you space in your layout and give you a cleaner look. “Standard” refrigerators can stick out an added 4-6+” deeper than a kitchen cabinet so be sure to discuss this depth with your designer at Village Home Stores.

At the very center of this incredible new kitchen is a large island with seating. This island is of an enviable size and also has no sink or cooktop in it. That makes it an incredible versatile surface for prep, entertaining, dining, and more. A slight arch detail has been applied to the overhang area for added interest. This arch also helps soften the look and scale of the large island.

Engineered quartz countertops surfaces in the Carrara Marmi design are an instantly classic surface choice. The look of a polished marble, with the hassle-free appeal of a quartz counter, these surfaces will look incredible for many years to come. A stylish “Ogee” edge was applied to all of the countertop edges in this kitchen. This one detail choice makes such a huge impact in the completed space.

This remodel project involved removing a wall. That means of course that ceilings would need to be worked on and of course a new flooring surface to tie the new open space together. The solid 3/4″ Small Leaf Acacia flooring that was selected is absolutely stunning. When you walk into the home now you are greeted with the gorgeous warm flooring stretching all the way through the kitchen. We just love how it looks against the blue cabinetry. Geneseo, IL- Basement Bar

We don’t just create amazing kitchen and bathroom designs at Village Home Stores. There are many other types of spaces in your home that a custom design might be needed for. The home bar is a fantastic example of one of these spaces. Sometimes you really do want to go where everybody knows your name. If you are lucky enough to have a bar this amazing in your own basement…. you had better believe a LOT of folks will want to know your name! Grab a drink and let’s take a look around.Georgia Bulldogs themed bar in Geneseo, IL | VillageHomeStores.com

This Geneseo, IL basement bar remodel brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “nah. I think I’ll just have some friends over and watch the game here”. Why would you ever have to go out when you have this at home? Truth is… you rarely even see real taverns with as beautiful of a custom bar anymore. Home bar design by Village Home Stores.

The barkeep here happens to be a bit of a Georgia Bulldogs fan but with a little bit of imagination you can picture it done up with your own team’s swag. Custom Rustic Cherry cabinetry has been distressed and a “Mocha” stain with “Black” accent glaze has been applied. The “Seneca” raised-panel doorstyle was used on the bar cabinetry. This raised-panel look is perfect for a Traditional styled bar created with the Koch Classic cabinetry.

Home bar featuring Georgia Bulldogs memorabilia. | VillageHomeStores.comThe main cabinets included in this home bar are only visible to the bartender himself. The most important view of this space is as a guest. The bar can comfortably seat 6 at the bar-height top and two more at the counter height top (shown above). behind those barstools are custom wainscot panels that perfectly compliment the cabinetry on the interior and back bar of the space.Wainscoting bar ideas. | VillageHomeStores.com

Wainscot panels are divided up with fluted column details and decorative wood corbel supports. As we share time and time again on this blog, details always make the design. Details you can see and appreciate plus details you can use and appreciate. Having a bar rail on the lower section of this bar helps make it really look complete.Including a bar rail on your project looks great and is so fantastic as a seated guest! Having a place to rest your feet when sitting at that height for extended amounts of time is important in making visitors feel comfortable. stainless_bar_rail

Traditional polished brass bar rail is still available but and updated look is created here by using a Stainless Steel bar rail system. Another detail that most female guests can appreciate are the purse hooks that were added just below the countertop overhang.purse_hook_on_bar

These hooks are very necessary in public establishments as a way to keep your handbag within reach and away from sticky floors. This home bar is very well kept so sticky floors are not a problem. Instead, the purse hooks are a thoughtful detail. Lets take a look at the back bar area that bar patrons can see.Georgia Bulldogs themed bar in Geneseo, IL. | VillageHomeStores.com

The wall has been fit with open shelves for bar accessories and memorabilia plus glass shelves for bottles and glassware. A 15″ wide built-in ice maker from KitchenAid provides uniform 3/4″ x 3/4″ x 1/2″ sized cubes. What looks like a tall pantry cabinet to the left of the ice maker is actually access to the real “back of the house”. Press play below to see this walk-through pantry front that is an entrance to the storage area of the lower level.

As you turn the corner, a 27″ wide built-in combination microwave and wall oven has been included in the design. With a lot of guests you will need to feed them. This microwave and oven are perfect for helping with that task. Directly across from the oven on the counter-height bar is a small 2-burner electric cooktop perfect for prepping food and serving guests. Two-burner electric cooktop. | VillageHomeStores.comThis smooth cooktop takes up a small amount of space but adds a lot of function to this area of the home bar. The countertops installed on the bar are a granite named “Saturnia”. In place of a polished look to the stone, a “brushed” finish has been used. This creates a more matte look and enhances the texture and patterns of the stone. Of course with all the food and drinks getting served at this bar you will need a bar sink. Bar sink in a home bar designed by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.comA single well Stainless Steel undermount sink is fit with a faucet and pullout sprayer. A garbage disposal button has been included to the left of the faucet. A tilt-out tray on the false drawer below the sink keeps sponges and dishrags out of sight when not in use. Of course cleaning up after entertaining is always made easier with a dishwasher. This 24″ KitchenAid is so quiet you could even have it running while entertaining. lighted_glass_shelvesA mirrored back wall and glass shelves make for an impressive display for memorabilia and bottles. Glassware can also look great in this application. A colorful light system was installed behind the glass shelves to illuminate the wall in the evening. Adding mirror is a great way to open up any space.KitchenAid beverage cooler in bar. | VillageHomeStores.com

A glass-front beverage cooler is accessed near the cooktop area below the lower counter height top. This cooler from KitchenAid can be used as a built-in (shown here in our design) or freestanding. The same is true of the 15″ ice maker.Georgia Bulldogs home bar. | VillageHomeStores.comThere is an impressive amount of space behind the bar. Great storage including sliding shelves, pullout trash bins, and drawers for tools and towels. For a large crowd there is even extra seating on the interior of the bar. All this seating plus pool, shuffleboard, a game table, and a walk-out to the backyard fire pit. Why would you ever need to go anyplace else but home? Another great element are the fluted columns that stretch from the bartop to the tray ceiling. Fluted columns in a home bar. | VillageHomeStores.com

This same fluting detail can be found dividing the wainscot panels on the back of the bar. The carved wood corbel supports and fluted details are enhanced with the accent glaze that has been layered over the stain. This rich cherry wood, gorgeous granite tops,  and all of the design details create a home bar that outshines many of the public spaces opening up nowadays. We really love helping our customers make the most of their experiences at home. We love helping provide the perfect setting and creating spaces that bring people together.
