Wood Builder Ltd.- Modern Farmhouse Style in Bettendorf, IA

Village Home Stores is known for beautiful remodels but did you know that we also work with many area builders to provide expert design and material selection for their homes?  This stunning kitchen in a Wood Builder Ltd. home is a fantastic example.  Modern Farmhouse style in the new Spencer Hollow in Bettendorf, IA. Let’s take a look around this beautiful new space.
Light gray painted kitchen with gray stained island. Kitchen by Village Home Stores for Wood Builder Ltd. | VillageHomeStores.com

Painted cabinets from our Koch Express line are installed throughout the perimeter of the kitchen. The Windsor doorstyle in a birch wood has been painted with a soft, light-gray color named “Oyster” by Koch.  The cabinetry includes soft-close drawers and classic, slab drawer fronts. A suite of Stainless Steel appliances from our Whirlpool® line complete the look with style and function. This 30″ wide front-control gas range is packed with great features including the innovative new Frozen Bake™ feature by Whirlpool®.

What does Frozen Bake™ mean? It means a meal is as simple as loading in select frozen items like pizza or a lasagna and beginning the baking process without preheating. Skip preheating alltogether and let this range modify cook times and temperatures for you. As a compliment to the soft painted “Oyster” finish on the perimeter, a stain has been applied to the kitchen island. The Lexington doorstyle from our Koch Classic line has been installed in a birch wood with the “Stone” stain applied.

This medium gray tone allows the natural wood grain of the cabinets come through but doesn’t conflict with the other wood tones in the space. The wood flooring and furnishing in the great room all pair well with the gray stain. The best ways to “dress up” an island design without adding legs or decorative details is to just be certain that the exposed ends look great. A smooth, flat panel or finished end look alright on an island but adding elements like applied doors (shown above) help to customize and elevate the design. Furniture baseboard completes the look.

The counters in this kitchen are from our Klondike quartz line. The neutral faux-marble look is named “Calacatta Gold” in the standard “Eased” edge.  Many times when we have a two-toned cabinet layout, the island is a second color of counter material. Here using the same quartz throughout is a clean and classic look. The island top overhangs on two sides to offer seating for three guests.
Kitchen island with Sharp microwave drawer. Kitchen by Village Home Stores for Wood Builder Ltd. | VillageHomeStores.com

A centrally-located kitchen island can be a wonderful location for a microwave drawer. Access to the microwave is available to any user without being in the way of any other prep or cooking. In this kitchen layout a user can be at the main cooktop/range area and someone else can still easily access the microwave or refrigerator. This microwave drawer model from our Sharp® line measures 24″ wide and has been installed in a cabinet including a storage drawer below. You can see in the background of the above image, that a sliding barn door is located in the kitchen. This door installed by Wood Builder Ltd. opens to access a pantry area. There is also a secondary pantry located in the kitchen design. It is a tall cabinet to the left of the refrigerator.
Kitchen with side-by-side Whirlpool refrigerator. Kitchen by Village Home Stores for Wood Builder Ltd. | VillageHomeStores.com
Next to the tall pantry is a 21 cu. ft. side-by-side refrigerator by Whirlpool®.  This counter-depth model is installed back flush with the cabinets and gives a more customized look without much upcharge. It is important to mention also that 21 cu. ft. of storage is a wonderful number for a counter depth model. Freezer storage in a side-by-side refrigerator can already be a bit limited but this counter-depth model includes In-Door-Ice® Storage. This means that the icemaker and bin have been moved to the door to make more usable shelf space available.

Showroom Updates 2017: First Impressions

We are beyond thrilled to share our 2017 showroom updates with you here on the blog! Village Home Stores has a lot of great things planned as we move into 2017. This showroom update is a significant start! We have purchased a third storefront and added 1,200 sq. ft. of space for a brand new lighting showroom. We will show you are that complete lighting space and our remodel process later this week. Let’s begin today with a tour of our brand new front reception area:
New front desk area at Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

As our business continues to grow, we have changed and adapted our customer experience so that every person that visits our store leaves feeling glad they came. Our entire showroom now is over 9,000 sq. ft. that’s a lot of product and space all in one location! You will now enter the center door off of State Street and be greeted and guided by Therese. That’s Therese in the photo above, look how happy she looks in her new desk area! She creates all of our beautiful full-color renderings for our Kitchen & Bath Design customers. She will now be the first smiling face you see whether you are shopping for a single lightbulb, a full appliances package, or an entire home of products. The back wall of this new reception area is easily one of our favorite new areas of our entire showroom. Layers of texture and a variety of materials make a big first impression.
DuChateau Wood panels in the Kaudra style and Brown Ask finish. | VillageHomeStores.com

Have you seen our new signage inside the store? It looks so amazing day and night! We gave the folks at ItsaSchmollworld our logo and they gave us this incredible metal sign! We installed it over a Dahltile Limestone named Martinique Arctic Gray. The logo is back-lit with our Diode LED lighting system.
New Village Home Stores sign made by itsaschmollworld lit with our low-voltage Diode LED lighting system. | VillageHomeStores.comOne of best benefits of using our Diode LED lighting to back-light this sign is the fact that it is low-voltage. That means we can leave this sign lit all day and all night and use very little energy for the bold statement it makes. See for yourself how amazing this back wall looks in the evening when you are passing the store. The pendant lighting flanking the logo is another  great element to the finished design.

These pendants are from our ELK Lighting line. The series is named Gramercy. We love the schoolhouse shape to the glass and the brushed finish pairs perfect with the metal logo sign on the same wall. The wood panels behind each pendant are a unique new product we have just launched, DuChateau wall coverings. These panels are from the Kaudra series in the Brown Ash finish. We are so excited to has access to this great new product! Consider these wall coverings for a fireplace wall or as an accent wall in a Master Bedroom. Below is a moodboard of the variety of finishes included in this new front desk:

Brushed Bronze handles from our Top Knobs line add a warm matte-finish gold look which is right on trend for our industry. Two finishes and styles of DuraSupreme Cabinetry have been included in this desk design. Gray Painted cabinets in the Middleton doorstyle and paint called Moonstone. The warm gray/bronze laminated cabinets are the Talia Horizontal style in a finish named Wired Bronze. Many times the countertops selected can easily become overpowered by everything else in a complete look. These Cambria Quartz tops in the Seagrove design wrap just about every available remaining surface and command your attention!
Cambria_waterfall_edge

This installation technique is called a “Waterfall” edge. Cambria seems to spring up from the floor, wrap the cabinets and desk surfaces and cascade back down again seamlessly. The front face of the desk includes a recessed area of paneling that repeats the Wired Bronze finish from the back wall of cabinetry.
front

All of this sits atop a new floor from our Marazzi line. This is a wood-look porcelain tile that will be a durable and stylish choice to hold up to the high-traffic area of the showroom. This 6″ x 36″ tile is from the American Estates series in the Natural color. If you want the look of wood but a durable and easy to clean surface, ask one of our flooring experts at Village about a wood-look tile.

Bettendorf, IA- Once Upon a Time… Beige Met Gray…

A Classic tale of Gray meets Beige… Ok fine this might not seem like a classic tale but trust us, warm gray tones are everywhere in the home finishes industries. Say goodbye to Beige everywhere and say hello to the new neutral: Gray. Not always bland and cold as stone, Gray tones can be warm and inviting. Someplace between Gray and Beige is… “Greige“! This Bettendorf, IA kitchen showcases the perfect palette for this neutral color concept.
Kitchen remodeled in Bettendorf, IA | VillageHomeStores.com

The original kitchen in this home was a medium stained Oak cabinet with neutral toned countertops. Once ready for an update and a brighter look, this Bettendorf home is now a magazine-cover worthy space. Take a look at the transformation.
before

Painted white cabinetry from our Koch Classic line has been given a “Smoke” highlight accent and a wood hood and kitchen island is painted in the “Fog” finish. The “Legacy” doorstyle is a fantastic choice that provides many edges and details that the “Smoke” highlight can catch up on. A decorative wood hood in the accent color is fit with a Broan hood insert within it.
Gray and white kitchen remodel in Bettendorf, IA | VillageHomeStores.com

That same “Fog” painted finish from the hood is found on the kitchen island that includes an overhang and seating for two at counter-height. While you may think next to the kitchen sink is the best location for your pull-out waste basket cabinet, an island can be a better choice. Include this cabinet within reach of the sink user but easy to access for guests when entertaining. A waste basket cabinet in the island can be easy to find and keep the sink area from getting too crowded.

We have to admit that sometimes one element of a complete design stands out as the “MVP”. In this kitchen it is absolutely the tile backsplash! This geometric mosaic tile by Glazzio is from the “Excalibur Series” in the “Winter Fjord” color. It perfectly blends both cabinet finishes, the countertop selection, and the flooring together. Our Diode L.E.D. undercabinet lighting system showcases this tile perfectly and the look is amazing day or night.

Whirlpool front control range. | VillageHomeStores.comBelow the painted hood and that amazing tile backsplash sits Whirlpool’s front-control gas range with True Convection features in Stainless Steel. One of our favorite features on this model aside from the convection is the Frozen Bake™ option. Select this feature to cook frozen foods faster by eliminating the need to preheat the oven. Just select the food type, temperature, and cook time listed on the frozen item’s package and the oven will start customizing. Now you can cook frozen pizza 31% faster, and even lasagna, chicken nuggets, fries and pies can get from the oven to the table in less time. No more preheating before your get started. The preheat process is included in the bake time. Tall storage cabinetry in kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.comYou will find plenty of pantry storage on the refrigerator wall of the new kitchen design. Two tall pantry cabinets surround the refrigerator area and varied depths have been used to utilize the space as much as possible. Notice the change in depths in this profile view below of the pantry wall:sliding shelves in pantry. | VillageHomeStores.com

Plenty of pantry storage plus two slide-out bins in the end base cabinet. Also note the exposed ends of the cabinetry in this kitchen. In place of a smooth, painted finished end matching cabinet doors have been applied for a gorgeous finished look. Including “Applied Door Ends” is an exceptionally nice detail in a kitchen with a mitered and glazed doorstyle like this.  Not to go un-noticed is a gorgeous farmhouse sink in this kitchen. A design selection that is a statement all in itself, this Whitehaus smooth-front apron sink is an instantly classic look. Farm sink in Bettendorf, IA kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

The farm sink has been undermounted to Cambria’s “Torquay” quartz counters in the standard “Eased” edge profile. This Cambria design adds a perfectly polished and upscale look without overpowering the backsplash tile with too much pattern. This entire design is about balance. Balancing accent colors, pattern, texture, even hardware sizes. Having a designer with you during every decision for your project helps you get the end result you have been dreaming of. Vinyl flooring Bettendorf, IA. | VillageHomeStores.com

All of these selections sit on top of a luxury vinyl tile by Armstrong. This 12″ x 24″ LVT is from the “Alterna” series in the “Silver Shimmer” color. Trending: Kitchen and Bath Trends For 2016/2017

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of getting an invite to a Tastemakers Tea to meet, mingle and discuss trends throughout the Home Decor, Fashion, and Floral industries. These industries are closely knit when it comes to trend and color forecasting. Materials, color palettes, and details all pour over into the Kitchen and Bath industry.  Village Home Stores offers expert design and material selection for your new or remodeled home. We strive to be thought-leaders in out industry and always keep our eyes and ears on what is trending so that we can keep the perfect products available for our customers.

We understand that a kitchen design is far more permanent of a decision than purchasing a statement necklace or floral arrangements for your next event but each of these purchases reflect your personal taste. Your personal taste is such an important thing and every bit of your home should reflect it. So much of what we learned at this Tastemakers Tea translates directly into what we are seeing in the Kitchen & Bath industry! Here are 5 trends that we know you can put into play right now for your kitchen or bath design in 2016/2017:

Include Natural Items:

Natural items such as marble, granite, or woodgrain are not just limited to the “permanent” items in your kitchen.

Natural materials like stone and horn. | photo by Sarah Sunstrom Photography

Natural Stone Canisters and Horn Decor from Katsch. Photo by Sarah Sunstrom Photography

Fall is the perfect time to begin to bring the outdoors in with your home accents. The canisters shown above are made from a gorgeous marble and that horn? it’s a bottle opener that you will never have to go searching for because it is cool enough to leave out layered as part of your look. As you prepare to entertain for these Autumn weeks ahead consider giving your kitchen a whole new look by swapping out that accessories layer in the space. If your kitchen is looking tired, clear everything off of the counters and shelves and challenge yourself to try a new look. You will be amazing at what a new rug or set of canisters can do to jump-start this process.

Mix Metals:

Nervous about this trend of mixing metals? Kitchen accessories and wall art are the perfect way to dip your toe in and test the waters.

Copper is a fantastic Fall color and it happens to look right “at home” in the kitchen. These vintage canisters from mabel. in Geneseo, IL would pair up quite nicely with the marble set shown above. Mixing metals with other textures can be fun. If you are ready to dive into a more exciting look in mixed metals, your designer at Village Home Stores is ready to help you balance and visualize the finished space. Take a look at this kitchen featured recently on the blog. Black Stainless Steel mixed with Stainless and Copper finishes. | VillageHomeStores.com

This completed look is polished and complete and includes 4 metals finishes in the design! KitchenAid’s Black Stainless and Standard Stainless Steel appliances are paired with Hammered Copper sinks and Oil -Rubbed Bronze faucets. See the complete album of photos from this project here on our Houzz.com page.

Go Gray:

Gray continues to become the new neutral choice all across the board. We were gracious to attend Dura Supreme’s Design Symposium again this year and many of the trends they spoke of last year were still atop the list for 2016/2017.  Last year we blogged on how Gray is here to stay. Take note that this “trend” is one worth your consideration for your kitchen or bath project because it is forecasted to stay on point for the next 5-8 years.Decorative end panel on the end of a kitchen peninsula. | VillageHomeStores.com

At Dura Supreme’s Design Symposium we were shown a beautiful new finish combination that really reflects the direction of the Modern Farmhouse look that is evolving into a very polished concept. The “Farmhouse” look is no longer limited to a barn door and an apron-front sink. The polished Modern Farmhouse look has evolved to include many of the trends we are touching on in this post including warmer grays, natural details, and mixed metals.

Dura Supreme Hickory Morel finish. | VillageHomeStores.com

Dura Supreme Hickory Morel finish available at Village Home Stores.

The “Morel” stain shown here on a Hickory door is a Gray/Brown Undertone finish that allows the natural characteristics of the woodgrain to show. With so many of our projects now including an accent island or cabinet in some area of the design, this wood finish is a great option. If you are considering including a “cool” or a “warm” painted finish to combine with your wood cabinetry, “Morel” pairs perfectly with each concept.

Turn Up The Heat:

So if Gray is the new neutral, what should I pair it with? Our short answer… all the things! An important point we want to make is that because we are seeing Gray used throughout the home, the “cold” and “drab” gray you are picturing is not the Gray you are after. Warmer tones of Gray are most commonly found in cabinet finishes, paint colors and home decor items. These warm Grays pair amazingly with woods ranging from light to dark.

Leather woven run from Katsch in Geneseo, IL. | VillageHomeStores.com

Desmond the Dachshund models a leather woven rug from Katsch.

Selecting warmer Grays and pairing with a rich woodtone also lends itself to including many of the other design trends we are suggesting. Including natural items (see our first suggestion in this post) is easy when a warm Gray is in the mix. Natural fibers and materials include a variety of colors in a piece. We snagged this great rug the day of the event from Katsch and it makes for a perfect kitchen sink rug. Natural rope is woven with Gray leather strips. It is unique, comfortable, and stylish. See more great examples of Gray used in beautiful spaces on this Pinterest Board we have curated.

Include Mirror & Glass:

Adding mirror to your space can be a real game-changer when you are looking for a whole new look. A quick change can be to swap out one piece of wall decor for a framed mirror. If your kitchen sink is not beneath a window add a mirror above your sink! This can also be a great way to play around with mixing metal finishes. Challenge yourself to choose a framed mirror different from your faucet or cabinet hardware and repeat this new metal finish someplace else in the space. We carry many framed mirror options in a variety of styles.

Swap out some artwork for a mirror in your kitchen or bath.

Swap out some artwork for a mirror in your kitchen or bath.

At the Tastemakers event we saw antique mirrors used as trays and clear glass accessories were proven to be versatile pieces you can use all year round. We recently blogged about a kitchen that included mirror inserts in place of glass and it bounced light and beautiful countryside views all around the space. A creative surface to play around with mirror is in your kitchen or bathroom tile. Stop by our showroom to see some of the many fun options we have that include mirrored accents in a variety of colors and styles.

If you are wanting to give your kitchen or bath and update consider one or more of these suggestions. Many of them can be done right now possibly with items you have already! If you need some new pieces to use, shop Geneseo, IL for these great looks! If you are wanting to start completely fresh and create a space in your home on trend and complimentary of your own personal style we want to help make that happen! Contact Village Home Stores today to start the conversation about your own project. Our thanks to Katsch, Designs on the Boulevard, and mabel, for hosting the Tastemakers Tea event. The setting, the conversation, and the company was all inspiring! What a great way to kickoff this beautiful Midwest Fall Season! Village_Home_Stores

Port Byron, IL- Bath Remodel Plays With Size and Pattern

Have you fallen in love with one tile….but then struggled to complete the look? Maybe that one tile is all you need! You don’t have to include a flashy mosaic accent, or mix multiple textures together to get a complete look. This Port Byron bath remodel is a wonderful example of how you can use the same tile but play with size and installation for a great look. Paramount’s “Urban Stone” series is used throughout the bathroom. Instead of covering the entire bath with the exact same tile, variations of sizes of tile are used but all in the “Cognac” color. The flooring, tub deck, threshold, shower base and walls are all tiled but with sizes varying from 1″ x 2″ to 12″ x 24″. Let our tile experts help you find the perfect material and install concept for your space. tile

When entering the new bathroom, you are greeted by a beautiful new bath vanity. This Furniture style sinktable is from our Bertch Bath line and is made not that far away from us in Waterloo, Iowa. The “Interlude” sinktable can be ordered in a variety of sizes, wood species, and finishes. A 30″ wide sinktable is installed here in a Hickory wood with “Brindle” stain applied. We love how this Brindle stain highlights the Hickory wood grain on the cabinet. An open shelf below can be left empty or used for linens or baskets of toiletries.
Bertch Bath vanities Quad Cities Region. | VillageHomeStores.com

Bertch Bath wave bowl style. | VillageHomeStores.comBertch Bath also fabricates cultured marble vanity tops. This bathroom includes one from their faux granite series. The color is called “Concrete” and has been ordered in the Gloss finish. An integrated vanity sink is included in the mold used to form this top. The “Wave” bowl style is an updated new bowl option that looks stylish and sophisticated in this space.

Another updated detail is the use of a large-format tile in a newer size and shape. 12″ x 24″ sized tiles truly are pacing themselves to become “the new” 12″ x 12″ tile. Installed as the floor tile and horizontally for the wall of the new shower, the look is great! This Port Byron bathroom began as a large space, but was not using that space as smart as it could have been. There was a separate tub and shower area in the original bathroom, but that left a lot of open space in the center of the room. That suggested that there was plenty of space for something to be larger in the new design. Now the custom tiled shower is nearly three times the size of the original:
Custom tiled walk in shower. | VillageHomeStores.com

Did you notice that with the new layout a shower door isn’t needed? Step over the tiled threshold into the shower and the showerhead and controls all splash and spray into the back of the space. To help light pour into the shower, fixed panels of glass have been installed on the wall dividing the tub and shower and also the new wall on entry into the bathroom. These help create a “clerestory” window effect and brighten the space naturally while adding a custom look. glass_areasTiled shower niche. | VillageHomeStores.comDon’t forget to discuss with your designer at Village Home Stores where you will be keeping things in the new shower. Chances are your designer, tile salesperson, and even tile installer will suggest a tiled shelf or wall niche. It would be a shame to have a gorgeous new tiled shower customized to fit in your space and not include an option like this to customize your use of the space. Who wants to have to keep soaps and shampoos on the floor of the shower?! Be sure to check out this ideabook on our Houzz page showcasing other tiled showers. This ideabook includes shower niches, tiled shelves, and custom tiled benches we have posted from our past projects.

The tub area is no longer dark and crowded. Instead, a tiled tub deck seems to just be an extension of the custom shower. The same small-scale tile used as the shower floor is repeated as an accent surrounding the tub surround. Even with all of this medium-dark tile throughout, the bathroom layout keeps the space bright and feeling open.

Trend Watch: Is Gray Here To Stay?

gray_kitchen_trendIt should come as no surprise that gray has officially caught fire as a trendy color to include in your home interiors. All you need to do it take a look at your Pinterest feed or even the covers of the magazines at the grocery checkout. Gray has found its place in the home and the kitchen. We recently had the opportunity to attend a Design Symposium hosted by our friends over at Dura Supreme Cabinetry. We spent the good deal of the day learning about current trends as well as trends forecasted to hit the industry soon.  We can’t wait to share with you what we learned from industry leaders and we thought addressing this common question is a great place to start. Weekly, (sometimes even daily) our designers get asked by our clients “Gray?! Isn’t that a trendy color to use on such a permanent project?” The short answer is yes… but allow us to present the strong case for why you should still consider it.

gray_backsplash

What used to be a fun accent color has now taken over the entire palette of color choices. When companies like Formica, Dura Supreme, and Cambria invest a large amount of money into research and development of new materials and selections for our customers it is your first clue that this “trend” is not dissolving anytime soon!

gray_kitchen_Village_Home_stores

So how much longer will gray remain “a thing”? About 5-8 more years. So if you have been holding off on gray, you still have time! Just like any color you shop for in an outfit or while furnishing a room in your home, do what you are comfortable with. If a gray kitchen from floor-to-ceiling is not your thing there are so many options on how to include gray into your space no matter what your comfort level.

classicWhat is the “Classic” approach to including gray in your kitchen? Consider one of the very first materials used in ornament and decoration… marble! You can’t get a more classic look than gray veining in a slab of natural marble. This continues to be a popular choice for kitchen countertops and Formica has even taken steps to improve options if you budget doesn’t allow for true marble to be installed. Take a look at the “Calacatta Marble” and “Bianca Luna” designs available from the Formica 180fx® series.  Larger patterns and a more realistic texture get you as close as possible for a fraction of the price. Take a look at this Rock Island kitchen we remodeled that includes a more classical look. The Koch “Oyster” paint is a subtle gray color in place of a painted white. The marble tile in the backsplash is another classic choice.

cautiousEven though gray is predicted to continue to popular for at least the next 5-8 years, you may want to take a more cautious approach to including it. If that is where your comfort-level is with the trend you still have a lot of options.

gray_paint3Think of the non-permanent surfaces of your space that you may want to revisit in the next 5-8 years. Paint is a great example. Keeping the more permanent materials like cabinets, flooring, and countertops neutral leaves the door open to  change out the wall color a few years later and get an entirely refreshed look. Other places can be in your kitchen accessories like barstools and linens.

oh heyBut what if you want to really go for it? How can you dive into the gray kitchen trend? You and your designer at Village Home Stores have so many options! There are now gray colors available in every surface for your kitchen and bath project.  Of course you can install an entire kitchen of gray and we can help you find the right balance and design for that. Accenting with gray can also make a huge impact. Here are a few ways you can accent your kitchen with gray:

gray_kitchen_accentsGray kitchen islands have been so popular in the Quad Cities and surrounding areas. We have installed many in remodeled spaces like this Moline kitchen but dozens and dozens into new homes as well.

weathered barnwood garayAnother great idea for a way to accent your kitchen with gray is to include gray floating shelves or even finish the back of an open cabinet with a gray panel. The barnwood shelves in this remodeled kitchen from Village Home Stores also displays another great accent item, teh hood. Take a look at our “Gray Is Here To Stay”  Pinterest board to see tons of great examples of gray accents in action.

gray_kitchen_islandGray has always been an option for kitchen materials but the past few years and predicted years to come, it is a force to be reckoned with!  We just installed this new gray weathered Cherry island in the showroom (shown above) from Dura Supreme and it was quite the conversation-starter at our Q.C.B.R. booth this year ( and don’t worry there is a full tour of this new display hitting the blog soon).

Something that really stuck with us when we attended the Design Symposium was a statement from Karen Wistrom ASID, Vice President of Marketing at Dura Supreme Cabinetry who said gray is “not just for prison walls and cloudy days” anymore. We agree and can’t wait to help you get started on your own project.

Davenport Kitchen Remodel-Village Home Stores

davenport_kitchen_remodelerThis week’s feature kitchen is a space that many of you may be able to relate to. The space within it is limited by doorways and openings. While we love showing you huge spacious new kitchens, the truth is most of the remodel projects we do are smaller spaces. Designing and installing a new kitchen into an existing space that uses the cabinetry to it’s best capacity is what Village Home Stores is great at!

Davenport kitchen remodeled by Village Home StoresThis Davenport home is no exception. We borrowed space from a small eat-in nook and included that area into the new space that is Transitional in style and right at home in this historic neighborhood of great properties. You can see above the before, during and finished space.

kitchen_remodel_davenportcherry_kitchen_colorsCherry cabinets and neutral grays pair with rich granite tops to make a big impact and a smart use of the space. A flat-panel doorstyle can be so versatile when selecting materials. Koch Classic Cherry cabinetry in the “Savannah” style and “Brandy” finish compliment the woodwork and furniture in the home and the use of neutral grays keep the “Brandy” finish from seeming to red in color. “India Black Pearl” granite tops anchor the cabinets and keep you eye drawn to the contrast of the beautiful natural stone “Statuarito”  backsplash from Jeffery Court.

With natural stones come natural characteristics and irregularities. These should be expected when selecting tile made of true marble or granite.  The flooring is a ceramic called “Grigio Al Contro” in an elongated rectangle shape.

kitchen_design_davenportremodel_villagehomestoresWe thought sharing a birdseye view of the new design might help you get your bearings a bit more. You can see in the new design that the kitchen cabinetry now fills the entire sink wall and follows the return back into the old eat-in nook space. The new design still allows for a decent-sized table and chairs and room to navigate around it as well. The refrigerator you see in the bottom left is recessed into an area and out of the path into the kitchen.

remodel_davenportWhen facing the refrigerator, there is now an arched opening that accesses the stairwell just inside. By keeping the refrigerator as a stand alone piece and recessing it into the wall, a full-depth model can be used. This KitchenAid french door unit is actually their largest capacity 36″ wide refrigerator available. Taking up the same width and height (72″) as many other models, it boasts a full 29 cu. ft. of storage inside!

Making the most of the cabinet space in this kitchen design was key. A great specialty cabinet feature to show you is the pullout breadboard found right above the drawerstack to the right of the kitchen sink.

kitchen_remodel_cherry_devenportIn the corner of the new kitchen design sits an appliance garage. Small appliances can be pulled out to use and then hidden back inside out of sight when they are not being used. Appliance garages can be ordered with an “accordion” style door (shown), a door hinged right or left, or hardware that allows the door to pull forward and up. A corner of any kitchen can be designed a number of ways. Your Village designer helps pair the best design with your plans for using it.
