Moline, IL- Kitchen Remodel Fully Managed From Start to Finish

This Moline, IL kitchen is a tale that we are sure many can relate to. The original kitchen cabinets were in a very functional layout but beginning to show the wear and tear of years of use. After years and years of “maybe someday I’ll replace them”… this Spring “someday” had finally come. beforeNow the kitchen is updated with new cabinetry plus we removed an entire wall to make room for an island in the new design. The original kitchen shared the same L-shaped layout but the opposite end had a corner of walls with just enough room for a small table and two chairs. Kitchen remodel in Moline, IL managed from start to finish. | VillageHomeStores.com

Now with one of those back walls removed, the kitchen is open and bright. Birch wood Cabinetry from our Koch classic line has been installed in the “Westbrook” door style. A “Chestnut” stain has been applied and a “Black” accent glaze highlights the door and trim details. Engineered Quartz countertops in the “Chakra Beige” design is a neutral tone-on-tone look.

This crown is the perfect style and scale for the project. It even includes an area for the accent glaze to catch. With plenty of cabinet space within reach on each wall, an area above the cabinets is left to display items.

A white Whirlpool® range and microwave hood are also part of the new kitchen. Microwave hoods can save counterspace and be installed to vent out of the home or re-circulate the air. The original kitchen had just a range hood installed, now the microwave is off the counter.

The new electric range includes an easy-wipe ceramic glass cooktop. The most dramatic difference in the new kitchen came when we removed a wall that divided the kitchen from the dining room. Removing this one wall has helps this kitchen seem to grow in space even though it hasn’t extended any further into the dining room than before. The small table and chairs is now replaced with a large single-level kitchen island with seating for two comfortably.

With open shelves installed on each end of the island, the largest base cabinet included faces in toward the kitchen sink. Behind the double doors of this cabinet are two slide-out shelves. The “ends” to each open shelf cabinets have been treated with “applied doors” on each side. This gives the illusion of doors and helps complete the look instead of just a smooth panel. The back of the island includes three applied doors and two wood decorative supports for the overhang.

The island is really the focal point of this new kitchen and the accent glaze highlights all of the details perfectly. While the island steal the show in the kitchen, the new hardwood Walnut flooring is now showcased through the entire upper level of this home. The Walnut hardwood in the “Saddle” finish is from our Hallmark Hardwood line. Read more about Hallmark and some of our other projects here at this link.

Flooring and remodel work in Moline, IL | VillageHomeStores.comThe hardwood flooring was not the only new flooring installed at this remodeled home. The split-foyer layout was given a whole new look right at the stairway leading up into the new hardwood open-concept. A new stair rail and banister were installed and carpeting from our Dixie Home line was put in on both sets of stairs. This carpet is from the “Rock Creek” series in the “Ginger color. It is a 100% Stainmaster® carpet that resists stains, abrasive wear over time, and even has anti-static protection. That means you reduce your chances of static shock. This textured carpet also includes Dixie Home’s texture retention technology meaning your texture/pattern will bounce back and keep it’s hold for a long time. Village Home Stores sells carpeting to both remodel and New Construction customers. This homeowner knew that she wanted to be sure to include our LED undercabinet lighting in her new kitchen. She had seen this system in our previous projects and on our TV show so it was at the top of her wish list for the new kitchen. That lighting was a great investment to help showcase her new subway tile backsplash in the kitchen. 3″ x 6″ glass tiles from our Jeffrey Court line in the “Buff” color are the perfect choice and pair perfectly with the countertops selected. We included the finished space in an episode of the Village Home Show. See a full video tour of this finished kitchen remodel by pressing play below.

Bettendorf Kitchen Remodel- An Open Mind, An Open Room

We first met this Bettendorf, Iowa couple at the QCBR Home Show last Winter. They had been considering a remodel to their existing kitchen for a number of years but hadn’t really been inspired yet to take on the full project.

header installed in ceilingAfter meeting at their home, our designer suggested something that they hadn’t even considered before…removing a wall. An existing wall divided the front Living Room area from the current kitchen. Our designer was able to show them a rendered drawing of a possible layout of the kitchen if that wall was removed. Now they were even more intrigued.

Time passed as they considered the project and the more they stared at that wall, the more they realized… that wall had to go.

bettendorf kitchen remodelThis new kitchen features Koch cabinets in the Seneca Birch “Briarwood” stain and a complete suite of Stainless Steel Whirlpool appliances give this kitchen an updated look while looking right at home in the space. Instead of matching the exact color of Oak trim and furniture throughout the home, the flooring and cabinets change to a similar tone but a more closed grain of wood. Selecting wood tones that compliment each other instead of duplicating a finish can really give off a more polished look in many cases.

flooring_villageRight when I walked in the door to see the finished project I said, “Please tell me we put these floors in for you.”  Because they were so beautiful they almost distracted me from the reason I was stopping by (to see the new kitchen). These Acacia hand-scraped wood floors in the “Hazelnut” finish look so outstanding in person! The light really catches all that hand-scraped detail so well.

The hardwood was installed from the front door on through the living room and then into the new kitchen and eat-in area. This investment is a key ingredient in making this new space seem like an open floorplan that belongs in this home. There is now no visible trace of the wall that once blocked the view and light into the kitchen.

hidden_bar_supportsThe “Coffee Brown” granite countertops were actually purchased as part of our promotional color program at just $59 a sq. ft. and look so perfect with the strip of accent tile selected for the backsplash. We are often asked about how our stone fabricators “hide” the support brackets for the overhang on a granite top. This island top is a great example to show you. Notched into the back cabinet and panel to sit flush with the top of the cabinet, these steel supports are hidden from plain sight. The length, location, and amount of countertop supports your project may need will be based on the depth of the top and the length of the material to be supported.

sliding shelves in cabinetThe previous kitchen layout only had one small stack of drawers. This new design now includes many drawers including large pots & pans drawers on the sink wall. The end cabinet shown here has slide-out shelves to help organize Tupperware containers and lids.

There is also a pull-out trash cabinet and more added drawers  in the island facing the kitchen sink.

We are so glad to have arranged and coordinated all of the teams of players who made this space great.
