Quad Cities, IL- A Lower Level Library Full of Details

Village Home Stores doesn’t just design beautiful kitchen and bathroom spaces for your home. Think of ALL of the areas that we can help to make beautiful and customized to your own personal tastes and styles. Take this home study/library for example:

This beautiful customized space is hidden behind a sliding barn door adjacent to our last featured project. Nothing says sophisticated and studious for a space quite like a rich, cherry woodgrain and custom details. The DuraSupreme cabinetry consists mainly of paneling, trim and shelving but the base cabinets behind the desk are an inset style.

The Chapel Hill door in a Cherry wood stained a “Chestnut” finish, details like a furniture base and added feet to the toespace create interest. The term inset means that the doors sit inside of the cabinet frame instead of overlaying and resting outside of it. This inset style is considered “beaded” inset because of the routed detail around the cabinet frame which houses the doors and drawer fronts.

A Cambria Quartz counter in the “Seagrove” design caps off the back of the desk area. We love the added detail of selecting the Seagrove design that adds the natural-stone look with a veined pattern. A vintage chalkboard adds an upscale schoolhouse style to the space. A touch of old, surrounded by new. The secondary wall of shelving not shown is home to many books and personal items for display (respectfully omitted from this public post). A home library should provide practical storage but also plenty of display space for the user. Two glass-door wall cabinets flank the chalkboard area for more dust-free display space.

Of course baseboards and crown molding can take any project to a more polished and complete look. This library takes it one step further by adding details like decorative wood feet, fluted columns, and carved wooden corbels at the corners (shown below at left). Any added layer allows the light one more edge or curve to catch and highlight the space. Many times customers are concerned so much wood will make a room seem very dark. Layering depths and textures like this helps to keep the look dimensional and highlighted instead of a solid, flat panel of dark wood. Seagrove Cambria Quartz, cherry inset cabinetry and schoohouse decor in a Quad Cities Area home Library. Any completed study space needs wood paneled walls to get the look right. This space includes custom wainscot paneling installed at a chair rail height with a baseboard below. The paint color for the room mimics the chalkboard color and a wingback chair with nailheads completes the look. The only thing missing from the perfect home study space is a roaring fireplace, which because of the rooms location, wasn’t an option. The space still inspires!

Our unique series of adorne lightswitches and outlets give a modern update to an otherwise distracting break in the custom wall paneling. Imagine if bright white plastic outlets were cut into these custom wainscot panels. Wouldn’t that distract from the look? Instead, sleek metallic-look plates frame square outlets.

The same polished “Silver Springs” 12″ x 36″ River Marble floors continue from the kitchenette into the library area. Polished marble and floor-to-ceiling custom cherry shelving give this library a look like no other. This space would look right at home in a well-kept historic estate but we love knowing it is getting great use for this family in the Midwest countryside.

Geneseo, IL- Sliding Barn Doors Reveal a Hidden Office

Using sliding barn door hardware on the interior of the home has continued to grow in popularity. Many times you may picture re-purposing an old barnwood door or something rustic with this concept when you hear the term mentioned. Sometimes the concept of the barn door hardware itself is a fantastic solution for a space. In the case of this pocket home office, the look is perfect! There is nothing “rustic” or “barnwood” about this finished look. Instead, the hardware itself makes the statement!

We understand the appeal of being able to “hide” your home office piles behind doors but with a space as stylish as this, we say leave them open as much as possible! Press play on the video below to see the barn doors open and close.

The base cabinetry offers up a stack of drawers on each side and a knee drawer across the center. A laminate countertop spans wall to wall and has been installed without a coved backplash attached.

This leave the entire wall surface available for the shimmering and show-stopping Glazzio mosaic tile. A blend of grays, blacks, and white tiles pair with faceted mirror mosaic tiles. Even the most difficult homework assignment or bill paying that may have to happen here will seem glamorous when the backdrop is this tile!

Above the work surface is a center cabinet with doors and two open shelf cabinets that are home to storage baskets. A basket for each family member helps to keep messes and tasks organized. Crown molding on top and light rail molding on the bottom of this cabinet section completes the look.

Small spaces like this home office are the perfect place to get creative and playful with your material choices. That mirrored mosaic tile may be too much for filling an entire kitchen but in this dose, it is perfect. Cabinet hardware is another way you can be creative. The decorative knobs for the doors add a great detail to the small space.

Sliding barn door hardware can be used in many applications. In our industry we commonly see it used to conceal pantries, wine rooms, or closets. This home office happens to be located within a large open kitchen. The finished look of these doors and the cabinetry within is so great and looks right at home in the kitchen space.
