During the holiday season, we love to share recent kitchen designs that are great spaces for entertaining. This week’s featured project is a remodeled Coal Valley, Illinois kitchen that is a holiday hosting dream. This spacious kitchen is perfect for entertaining! A U-shaped kitchen layout with a peninsula and dual-level kitchen island. Plus another wall of pantry, fresh food storage, and display cabinets are also within the same room. Step on in and take a look around with us.
Each corner of the kitchen layout includes a tall cabinet with built-in appliances. As you face the main U-shape layout, the left corner is home to a built in microwave and raised dishwasher (shown below). This kitchen remodel was completed keeping as close to the original layout as possible. Why? These gorgeous floors were already installed and in great condition! The original kitchen included a 15″ wide trash compactor unit. In the new design, we instead installed a built-in KitchenAid ice maker. With a water line already accessible in the neighboring corner for the dishwasher, this revised appliance option is ideal for the existing layout.
In the other corner of the kitchen, we installed a double wall oven unit. This 500 series wall oven includes True Convection options. This provides consistent heating and even cooking to ensure there are no burnt edges or under-cooked centers. The temperature probe delivers accurate measurement of internal temperatures of meats, poultry, and casseroles without needing to open the oven. Built-in appliances in a corner can add a lot of interest in look and function. We love how this layout offers up open landing space for the oven items on each side and behind the user at the island.
Speaking of open counter space, the span connecting the U-shape is wide open for prep, service, or decor. This length of counter can be used so many ways. Make a mess? No problem! Clean up is a breeze because there are no grout lines in the kitchen backsplash. A full height slab of matching “Calacatta Laza” quartz surface is installed keeping a clean and consistent look.
Our quartz surfaces are expertly measured, templated, fabricated, and installed. We can even arrange to have cutouts made for your outlets and switches. In this kitchen design we installed our Radiant switches and outlets in a “Nickel” finish. When you work with a lighting expert at Village Home Stores we can help you to select a complimenting finish for your outlets, switches, and covers. Nothing can rob attention from a beautiful kitchen and backsplash quite like disruptively basic outlets dotting across it. This radiant series dresses up the look of any wall switch or outlet.
The right decor and accents can truly make a space! That is absolutely true in the case of the MacKenzie Childs Courtly Check pattern items displayed throughout this new kitchen. The white on white kitchen provides the perfect backdrop for the playfully patterned collection of this homeowner. Shown below is an iconic checkered teapot resting on a 5 burner gas cooktop centered in the dual-level kitchen island.
When you are making selections for a kitchen design there are so many details to be decided. When you work with Village Home Stores we are with you every step of the way. Our designers can help keep you on track, on budget, and guide your choices all with that final finished vision in mind. One detail that can really chance the look of a counter surface is the edge style that you choose. In this Coal Valley kitchen, an “Ogee” edge style was applied to the counter surfaces.
The profile choice on your counter surfaces can add more curves and edges for light to reflect. In this kitchen design, the island counter surfaces look perfectly highlighted and framed in by the “Ogee” edge. We must also mention that the finished space had another very cute black and white accent piece that is featured front and center in the image below:
That’s Martini and she just loves her new kitchen from Village Home Stores. She makes a cameo in so many of these photos we figured a proper intro was in order. The wall opposite the U-shape is home to a tall pantry cabinet, built in refrigerator, and a pair of refrigerated drawers. The main refrigerator is 48″ wide and the set of refrigerated drawers to the left are 24″ wide.
There is a small extension of base and wall cabinets on the other end. Normally this counter surface would become a drop zone for mail, keys, and charging devices. But we hid all of that in the top drawer out of sight! While we can’t design a kitchen that is resistant to clutter or piles… we can suggest better storage solutions for you!
Of course any painted kitchen looks even brighter when it is illuminated by our bestselling Diode LED tape lighting. In this Coal Valley Quad Cities home we installed the low-profile system in three applications: undercounter lighting, in-cabinet lighting, and above cabinet lighting. The look is amazing and with such a low voltage use, this system is the perfect ambient lighting to leave on as much as you would like!
This project was managed start to finish by Village Home Stores using our Complete Project Management Program. This step-by-step process allows us to keep our remodel customers on track and on budget for their home projects with us. You can learn more about our process and see more in-depth tours of the remodels we are completing in the Quad Cities area by watching our weekly TV show. Watch it every Sunday morning on WQAD at 10am or catch past episodes online, anytime on YouTube. Just type “Village Home Show” into the search bar.
The cabinetry in this kitchen is from our Koch Cabinetry line in the “Easton” raised panel door and “Ivory” white painted finish. Want to see more of this gorgeous finished kitchen? The cabinet handles are from Jeffery Alexander’s Sullivan series in the “Brushed Pewter” finish. The appliance package is from our KitchenAid line and many of the built-in unites can be ordered in other sizes if needed. Shop our Local Low Price Guaranteed on all appliances online, anytime here at villagehomestores.com For this remodel we did keep the original flooring… but that didn’t stop us from making some big changes to the flow of the room and nearby spaces. We removed an archway that used to divide the kitchen from the nearby sunroom. By removing that section of arched wall, we were able to extend the kitchen peninsula for more storage and seating (see below).
We also removed some walls and doorways for that mentioned sunroom. Now the flow of the social spaces in this home all feels more open and inviting. We can easily picture this kitchen packed with holiday guests. What a stunning space. Our thanks to these amazing customers for choosing to work with us and for allowing us to come pet Martini one last time and snap some photos to share with you. This Coal Valley Illinois kitchen just got a whole new look and layout! We made functional changes (like that new view and access to the pool shown below) and updated the look and style of the entire main level of this home. Custom Rustic Alder cabinetry from our Four Acre Amish cabinetry line is stained in a “Saddle” finish and accented kitchen island and hutch are finished with a “Light Pewter” paint. Accents of brushed gold metals, an incredible KitchenAid appliance package, and gorgeous Cambria countertops complete the look.
We moved the walk-out access to the backyard down closer to the pool view, and replaced the original window with a new wet bar. Two original peninsulas were replaced with a new custom hutch section. The new look is open, bright, and very stylish! Work was needed in this kitchen, the adjacent dining and living rooms, and entire back area of the home. That is a lot to tackle when you are also living in the home. These amazing customers called us and the complete start-to-finish Project Management team at Village Home Stores got to work for them.
There is such a transformation to the entire main level of this home that there is no way we could walk you through everything here on the blog… so instead we taped a full 1/2 hr. episode of our weekly TV show about this remodel story! Stay tuned for it to air very soon at our new time Sunday mornings at 10am on WQAD News Channel 8 ABC. In the meantime, check out this short video we made documenting some of the process. Press play below to see this kitchen and back door area transform!
Now that you have seen what it took to get to this stunning space, let’s take a closer look around at the details, materials, and design that give us this amazing end result. We replaced the U-shaped island obstacle with a long, rectangle island design with overhang on the back for counter-height stools. The refrigerator moved to a new location and the long, range wall became the featured focal point in the kitchen section of this design.
The large scale of the KitchenAid commercial 48″ wide dual fuel range is repeated with a custom wood hood above it. The cabinetry surrounding the range is symmetrical with staggered depths and heights in the upper cabinets. What a dream space to get to work preparing a meal! Concealed within that large mantle hood cabinet is a Broan blower insert so that there is proper ventilation when the cooktop or griddle is in use.
One of the benefits to purchasing from our custom Amish-built cabinetry lines is the ability to build sections of cabinets as one unit. Instead of this hood arriving at the jobsite as many cabinets and a lot of trim pieces, it arrives already assembled and finished just as you see it here. Our carpenters just had to install it and trim off the top with crown molding. The end result for you is a custom, seamless look and feel.
This range will certainly be the envy of any serious home chef! A dual fuel KitchenAid range with combined oven capacity of 6.3 cu.ft. and a 6-burner gas cooktop and chrome electric griddle on top. Dual fuel means you get the benefits of electric baking in the oven cavities and the immediate control of a gas cooktop above. Shop all of our incredible cooking appliances with our Local Low Price Guarantee at villagehomestores.com
Who wouldn’t love to have a griddle integrated into a cooking zone like this? This even-heat chrome griddle offers a great cooking performance for this household and has an easy-to-clean surface. That means pancakes on a Sunday morning doesn’t mean cleaning up after pancakes all Sunday afternoon. There is no seasoning required for the griddle, and the chrome allows you to never have any flavor transfers from meal to meal. If you were able to contain your envy about the range, cover your eyes and ears when we point out the pot-filler faucet right above the cooktop.
Many magazine-cover kitchens include this wall faucet feature. For those who truly use their kitchens, this decorative feature is also highly functional! Imagine filling a pasta pot with water right at the cooktop. Or adding water to used pots and pans to soak for a bit before washing. We also designed this cooking zone to be functional during the cooking process with amazing storage surrounding it. Large pots and pans drawers are found on this wall as well as two pullout cabinets surrounding the range.
A 12″ pullout spice rack on the left side of the range and a 12″ pullout utensil storage cabinet on the right. We have installed many of these utensil cabinets this year and they are such a great specialty cabinet! Instead of mining through a wide or deep drawer of utensils, see everything in these organized bins and grab what you need. We also love that the lower shelf in this cabinet can be used for large containers and bottles.
Of course in any busy kitchen the island becomes the place to gather. With a new flow to this kitchen layout, the new island offers a space to casually eat, clean up, and even prepare foods. The island has a furniture style look with an accented “Light Pewter” painted finish and legs at each corner.
The backside of the island appears to be a custom wainscot panel… but there is storage hidden under that overhang! Each cabinet opens to reveal shelf storage for small appliances, serving trays, and seasonal items. We have found that some customers prefer storage hidden beneath an area like this, instead of an extra shelf on top of the wall cabinets that require a stepstool or ladder to reach.
The kitchen island countertop surface is the best place to showcase the Cambria Quartz that was selected for this new kitchen. The Brittanicca Warm design gives a warm white background and dove grays vein through it for a marble look. The look of marble with the worry-free piece of mind that this surface can hold up to these kids and adults using the kitchen.
From YouTube-curious slime-making kids, to red-wine spilling guests, it’s no problem! We also installed outlets on each end of the kitchen island because kitchen islands are also multi-tasking spaces like home offices, homework stations, as well as food prep areas. In this kitchen, the island is also home to the microwave drawer, sink, and dishwasher.
Our designer at Village Home Stores included a lower drawer sink base cabinet. This gives plenty of space in the cabinet for plumbing and also a shallow drawer for cleaning supplies below. The undermounted sink in this kitchen is an e-granite composite material with a low center divider. Why a low divider? When was the last time you actually filled up your entire sink with water?
This alternative low-divider sink layout allows those who don’t soak dishes a wider space for washing larger items and pans with handles. Even with all of these new cabinets, you can never have enough pantry space when you have lots of kids and entertain large groups. We moved the refrigerator from its original location and added a pantry area to the main range wall of the kitchen design.
But that’s not just a 24″ deep pantry cabinet… its a pantry front that opens up to access a walk-in hidden pantry. We framed in an entire new pantry area for this household borrowing space from the laundry room right behind the kitchen. We cut out an opening so it could be accessed from the kitchen and voila! As these kids call it, a “secret room” pantry!
Speaking of the kids, a household with active kids… means piles and clutter right? Not on our watch! We partnered with this couple to design drop zones and storage solutions that these kids can use and grow along with. We will show you the amazing mudroom bench area just around the corner in a future blog feature. In the meantime, check out this kitchen drop zone!
Base cabinet storage designated for school papers and all those water bottles and snack food containers! There is even a way to keep school papers sorted and out of sight. Did you notice the wall here? What’s one way to avoid papers piling up on a counter? Just give the option of a way to pop them up on the wall! We installed a magnetic wall surface here that can help display artwork, calendars, notes, reminders, and more!
The stainless magnetic wall surface nearby keeps the built in refrigerator front looking clean. A dual compressor, French Door layout with Platinum finished interior keep the fresh and frozen foods organized and fresh. Ask an appliance expert at Village Home Stores about the Preserva food system available in most of our refrigerator options.
With a pool just outside of the new kitchen, and a great open concept layout like this of course you are going to find yourself entertaining from time to time. With three kids, even dinner at home as a family is a large crowd. There is a casual kitchen dining table within the new kitchen and a stylish wet bar area right next to it. This bar area allows for a great location for serving drinks or snacks away from the kitchen itself.
A section of glass-door cabinetry offers display for bar ware and glasses and a stacked stone wall surface compliments the stone of the fireplace just around the corner. This bar also includes a customer favorite (and all these kids admitted their favorite) built-in icemaker from KitchenAid.
Uniformly shaped ice cubes ideal for everyday applications. Clear Ice technology allows for a more attractive drink presentation and a slower melt rate! So that means less watered-down drinks for you! This panel-ready model and nearby paneled drawer appliances give the clean look of a row of cabinets, with great appliance features hidden in plain sight.
Those two drawers on the end are actually an appliance as well! The top is a refrigerator drawer full of snack items and kids beverages. The bottom drawer is a freezer full of popsicles and frosty mugs! Just steps from the pool, this bar area is a favorite for all ages!
A single well bar sink is also located in this bar area. The sink is the same material and color as the kitchen island sink and another Delta faucet is installed in a brushed brass/gold finish. That same gold accent is found in the home decor, lighting, and cabinet hardware of this design.
That same champagne brushed brass accent is repeated in the cabinet hardware. “Merrick” handles from our Hardware Resources line look great against the painted finishes and the woodgrain of the Rustic Alder cabinets.
The area that used to be two awkward peninsulas, is now a gorgeous hutch in a painted accent finish. Glass-front cabinets with X-mullions are lighted from within as well as an open shelf section in the center. These shelves will be so much fun to decorate throughout the year! Each glass-door cabinet stretches down to the countertop surface and a drawer allows another place to stash items away and out of sight.
Speaking of away and out of sight, how about this peninsula section packed with the kids crafting, coloring, and homework supplies! There is also an outlet (see below) with USB charging hubs right here for phone, tablet, and laptop access.
This custom hutch will also be available when entertaining as another area to gather or even serve food and beverages from. Our Diode LED tape lighting helps this kitchen design look great day and night. This low-voltage system is a customer favorite. Imagine how warm and inviting this hutch must look glowing at night!

Last week we were invited to join a few other Illinois sales teams from small businesses like ours at the World of Whirlpool training facilities in Downtown Chicago, IL. Our commitment to ongoing product training is why our customers find such an added value in working with Village Home Stores. There are new features introduced all of the time and it is our passion to help you find the right appliances for your budget and your lifestyle. We also want to be available to help you use your new appliances confidently once you have them installed. Training events like this keep our team savvy and knowledgeable for you.
We try and send our team to product training 1-2 times a year but we have never experienced a training quite like the one we had last week! Two full days of hands-on product demonstrations and chances everywhere we went to use and experiment with the features we were learning about. Product training in the appliance industry is not just about learning what the new finishes and features are, tech in the kitchen has completely changed the game!
Smart Home And Connected Kitchen Tech
Village Home Stores team is excited to be on board with all of these exciting ways you can add tech to your own home kitchen experience. Scan-to-cook, voice control timers and settings, and ingredient recognition. These are not “kitchen of the future” terms, they are available right now! Many of the appliance models we trained on from Maytag, KitchenAid, and Whirlpool have “connected” features. Whirlpool has launched an entire line of connected appliance products and they had a huge kitchen setup installed for our team to explore and train with.
I was really excited to train on and operate all of the new Whirlpool Smart Appliances. We learned so many ways they can help simplify our lives
-Tammy Clark, Appliance Expert at Village Home Stores
Getting this hands-on training with models we don’t typically get to see and use is a priceless opportunity for our team. Connected appliances are new to everyone so we are just as intrigued and curious as you! The apps and screens on the appliances are all very easy to use and give you options for how you are guided to use them. You can even favorite recipes and settings so that your appliances can adapt to you personally and help to simplify your life.
Hands-On Appliance Training
Resident Chef for Whirlpool brands Ann Nolan trained us on the chrome-infused griddles found on our KitchenAid commercial-style cooking products. We learned about the many benefits of this even-heat griddle including how easy it is to clean. There is no “seasoning” to worry about and we saw first hand that the non-porous surface cleans up very easily! Have a chrome-infused griddle from us? Check out this quick video Chef Ann made showing you the steps to clean it up easily.
Wall Ovens Guaranteed to “FIT”
Our team trained heavily on freestanding ranges and wall ovens beginning with a refresh of the FIT System Install Guarantee. Did you know that with the FIT system you can replace your existing 27″ or 30″ wide wall ovens and Whirlpool guarantees it will fit in your existing opening!? That is some valuable piece of mind when shopping. We had a chance to install a wall oven using the versatile FIT brackets and trim kit just to try it out!
Ice, Ice, Baby!
My favorite part of training was the undercounter icemaker. It was cool to see the difference between ice from that versus an ice dispenser in a refrigerator. Also, the pizza was awesome.
-Seth Owen, Appliance Expert at Village Home Stores
The pizza Seth is referencing was our off-site event for the evening. The Whirlpool Corporation took us on a Chicago Pizza Tour and it was an absolute dream! If you are looking for a fun and unusual way to see the city, (and if you can throw down on at least 2 lbs. of pizza in a few hours), we highly recommend it! But back to that icemaker Seth was talking about. Who wouldn’t love restaurant quality ice in your own home? Doesn’t that sound amazing? Ice is the only element you can add to something that elevates the experience without altering the flavor! They showed us what a different Clear Ice can make! Press play below to see this fun exercise we did comparing Clear Ice to regular ice from the freezer:
The KitchenAid Clear Ice in these undercounter models produce the most preferred ice in the industry! These icemakers are available in 15″ and 18″ wide models and they come backed by a 2 year warranty. They can be ordered panel-ready to give a built-in look for your kitchen design and the articulating door hinge allows it to be installed flush with the cabinetry and not stick out. We had some extensive cooktop training on both gas and induction cooktops which led to a very important training topic: ventilation!
Are you a serious home chef? Have you ever burned something in the kitchen? If you answered yes to either of those questions, you know how important kitchen ventilation is. Proper ventilation can help you filter heat, odor, grease, and smoke from your cooking space. A great new feature just launched is the Auto Turn On option on some vent hoods. This allows you to take the guesswork out of when to use your hood because it will just turn on when needed. We were blown away by this demo we experienced showcasing ventalation options from the KitchenAid Commercial line. Press play below to see some boosted vent power:
That is a 20 lb. cabinet door and just a 600CFM hood!!! Not even the most powerful hood we have available. Have questions about how much CFM power you need? Our team will work with you to pair your cook surface’s BTU’s and consider the location and your cooking habits when helping you select the right ventilation investment for your kitchen. A few months ago we met Chef Ann Nolan in Nashville and she was showcasing a brand new product on the EXPO floor of that show. Last week we were able to dive into more detailed training for it.
KitchenAid SmartOven+ with Powered Attachments
The KitchenAid SmartOven+ with Powered Attachments is one of the most exciting new appliance products we have seen in years! This wall oven can be used for standard baking and convection baking… but plug one of these powered attachments in and you have the ability to crisp, steam, and even grill in your wall oven! If you love the cooking process this wall oven will take your time in the kitchen to a whole new level. Imagine steaming an entire meal in a single pan, or making 3 racks or ribs any time of the year!?! There are even pre-programmed recipes in the wall oven to encourage you to experiment with your new attachments and they guide you through the entire process. You can even set a “flip” reminder for your burgers! You can read more about the SmartOven+ and see Chef Ann grilling with it here in a past blog post.
One thing we learned last week that really stuck with us about this wall oven product is the inspiration for it. The KitchenAid stand mixer is iconic. Not just within the Whirlpool brands of products, but in kitchens across the globe. What makes the stand mixer successful and has kept it relevant all of these years is the ability to add new and exciting attachments to any mixer base. The front port of a stand mixer (see above) can transform to suit so many tasks. That same concept was what drove the design of the port for the powered attachments of this SmartOven+ unit. The base “plugs” into the back of the wall oven and you stack whatever attachment you are using on top. A gravity-close cover seals the opening when an attachment isn’t in use.
Another exciting thing about this product is that KitchenAid included Chef Ann in the conversation while developing this product! She was able to make design notes and suggestions (like the sloped back wall of the grill pan and baking stone for utensil use) and she even developed the recipes programmed into the unit! Do you love being the first in your family or neighborhood to have fun and exiting new things but worry they will become outdated? Don’t worry here! Any powered attachment KitchenAid launches moving forward will work with this wall oven unit. And yes, there are others in the works!
The entire facility at World of Whirlpool was absolutely incredible. Both days we were treated to a chefs tasting 3 course lunch all prepared in the test kitchens on site. There were so many beautiful displays and believe it or not, we didn’t even see everything there even after two days of training! We don’t want to share every single detail from our trip because we will be unpacking some of these things in more detail on upcoming episodes of the Village Home Show.
Our team also trained on Maytag products, all brands of dishwashers, refrigeration, baking drawers, the new low-profile microwaves, laundry products and more! See and learn more about the low-profile microwave hoods here in a past blog post. Tammy even got to snap a selfie with the Maytag Man!
We trained on Whirlpool and Maytag laundry products and even saw the single unit Smart All-In-One Washer/Dryer from Whirlpool! This slim, ventless unit can be installed almost anywhere! Think how amazing it would be to wash a load right in your master closet! Learn more and shop this model here at villagehomestores.com
The building where World of Whirlpool us located is a landmark in itself! The Reid Murdoch Building is a historic and important building in the river-facing skyline of Downtown Chicago. We got a tour of the top clocktower one sunny afternoon and the views were amazing! It was such a busy and informative training trip but we had such a great group to train with! It is always so much fun to meet teams from stores just like ours who value the customer experience and seek to provide the best service and products for their neighbors.
The training and hospitality we were given from the Whirlpool Corporation was top-notch. We can’t thank them enough for including our store in this training opportunity. It is our honor to continue to earn our title of the Quad Cities Regional experts on appliances. If you are shopping for appliances and are not quite sure what is right for you, reach out to our team! We can’t wait to hear what you are working on!
One of the best things about being in our industry is that every single project we work on is different from the next. Even when kitchen and bath trends are put into action, the applications are always different because no space is the same. Village Home Stores has the great privilege of placing our designs and products in new and existing homes in the extended Quad Cities Region and we love each project we complete. We normally don’t admit it when we have favorites… but this week’s featured remodel story in Bettendorf, Iowa is one of our favorites fromf the year for sure!
This Bettendorf, Iowa customer found Village Home Stores by catching our weekly television show that airs every Sunday at 9am on WQAD. On the Village Home Show we are able to showcase remodel stories from right here in the Quad Cities area. So when this family was ready, they knew who to call. The original oak cabinetry layout really divided the kitchen from the dining and living spaces. There is a beautiful outside pool area just steps away from the kitchen in this home. With the peninsula in place, it was a long voyage to the kitchen sink from the pool.
We were so thrilled with the ideas they came to us with for a more open concept kitchen. When we say that the kitchen is the hub of the home, this household is a great example of that. With access to lofted living room and the backyard pool retreat, this new kitchen design needed to be functional and stylish. We began by removing the original kitchen… but kept one main element in place to help save some cost to the clients.
This kitchen has been given a whole new look but we kept the original tile floors! That’s right! Because the tile flooring was installed before the original kitchen cabinets went in, there was no void left when we tore out the kitchen peninsula. A new knee-wall was installed with power for island outlets. Take one more look at the original oak kitchen with the peninsula + table layout….
…and now the kitchen absorbs the dining space into one cohesive look. In fact, the kitchen and dining spaces are now joined into one concept by an incredible and versatile island design. The overall space has been brightened up significantly with lighter, airy material selections, added lighting, and the installation of mirror in some cabinetry.
A large kitchen island is the centerpiece to the new open concept. On the end near the backyard access, a custom table has been placed at dining height. We designed the dining table to be placed right next to the kitchen island. However, the table can be moved out if needed. A custom wood base was built for this design by our carpentry team and our painters painted it to compliment the kitchen cabinetry and trim.
A gorgeous wood top from our Craft-Art line was secured on top of the base. With the main kitchen cabinetry all in painted finishes, a woodgrain was a welcomed element. The Black Walnut plank-style wood top adds warmth and an upscale texture to the space. We think its is best complimented with the warm backslash tile glowing with our undercabinet lighting system.
Can’t find the right table to match your new kitchen from Village? Let us make one for you to ensure that it lines up with the overall design concept! Finding the right size and finish can be tricky. But rest assured, we can build just about anything you can dream up. This rich, smooth Black Walnut top was given a stylish and classic “Ogee” edge profile. The feel and sheen of these wood tops are truly heirloom quality. Learn more about these wood tops here in a previous post.
Even though this wood top is a showstopper, the Cambria Quartz in this kitchen is not to be ignored. Take a peek at this image below showing the remodel while it was still in progress. Notice that a piece of Cambria was installed on the cooktop wall for a dramatic look.
This statement wall creates a dramatic contrast of a marble look on the wall with a graphic black hood as an eye-catching continuation from the dark base cabinets. In fact, the Cambria Britannica Warm Quartz seems to almost cascade down behind the hood, flow up from the floor, over the kitchen island, and pour back down again on the other side.
Of course a glassy, gloss finish in a bright space always adds a great upscale detail. This Cambria design includes warm gray veining and is a classic compliment to the dark appliances and painted base cabinetry. A new approach to a two tone kitchen, dark painted bases with a bright and airy upper cabinet in a separate finish. Many times this trend is installed with open or floating shelves for the upper cabinetry. But in this design, we wanted to provide as much usable storage as possible.
The use of mirrors in some of the wall cabinetry does add a lighter weight to the look of the upper cabinets. The “X” design in the cabinet door is an updated and more Transitional style detail. We love the way mirrors help to brighten up a room (plus conceal the cabinet interior).
Quartz in a marble look is a great choice for a busy kitchen and large island work surface like this. Cambria Quartz in the Brittanicca Warm design offers a classic look of a marble with a maintenance-free advantage. The island countertop has a standard “Eased” edge applied to it to maintain a cleaner installation and look with the waterfalling edge.
Curious about waterfall edges? Stop by our showroom in Downtown Geneseo and see our front desk area that showcases this look. Village Home Stores offers many departments all under one roof to make the entire selection process easier on you and your designer. We encourage you to come with any ideas you have collected during your research phase but also take a look around and inside all of our cabinetry displays. We offer so many specialty cabinets and can show them to you. Our Dura Supreme line of cabinetry is loaded with so many great options! This kitchen of includes great sliding shelf storage but also a mixer lift cabinet right in the island.
See more of this entire kitchen in detail over on our Best of Houzz-winning Portfolio. See the full album of images here. We also installed a spice pullout, lazy susan, and an auto-open waste basket! Press play below to watch the waste basket cabinet open with just a nudge.
Matte Black is one of our favorite home trends and this kitchen rocks the trend so well! The soft, rich look of Dura Supreme’s painted “Graphite” finish on the base cabinetry pairs so well with KitchenAid’s Black Stainless Steel finish appliances. Black Stainless is not just for super contemporary spaces. This Transitionally-styled space is proof of that. Plus it is fingerprint resistant!
KitchenAid was the first in their industry to launch a Black Stainless Steel finish and the look is sophisticated. But a KitchenAid kitchen is at it’s best when in use! A counter-depth French Door refrigerator includes incredible fresh and frozen food storage. A 30″ Combination Wall Oven and Microwave has so many features and a large capacity when needed. Another great appliance detail in this kitchen is the undercounter 15″ Ice Maker. What an absolute dream for anyone who entertains! Of course when you have a pool… people tend to show up.
This 15″ automatic ice maker produces ice that is perfect for every occasion. It opens to reveal a storage bin that can hold up to 25 pounds of ice. Next to the Ice Maker we installed a beverage cooler with a custom panel to match the cabinetry. This kept the beverage area of the new kitchen looking symmetrical. Panel-ready appliances can be a wonderful custom option. We offer them in many refrigerator and dishwasher options. We kept the original tile floors in the kitchen but a new tile backsplash was installed.
3″ x 12″ textured tiles in “New Yorker” series and “Taupe” color. We love how they almost have the appearance of being underwater with their texture and reflection. Our stylish adorne series of switches and outlets from legrand looks great on the tile in a contrasting color and matte finish.
The square design of this series looks great and is very versitile with options. Since sart home tech is at the top of every homeowner and homebuyer’s wishlist we should also mention this kitchen lighting system takes voice commands! Using the legrand app and connected to an amazon Alexa, we had a lot of fun testing out this new product. Press play below to watch a Facebook live video we taped at this completed jobsite to see how easy it is to use voice commands with this adorne system.
Smart home tech has reached the kitchen industry in a big way over the last few years and this year even more products are set to launch to make your life easier and more enjoyable. This homeowner was able to connect many of the lighting switches in the home and now can even switch lights off and on when they are away from home using the app.
We have completed many new spaces using the adorne series from legrand. These outlet covers are a perfect match to the painted Graphite cabinetry in this kitchen. They match so well that our “hidden” pop-up outlet in the island is totally camouflaged when it isn’t in use.
A hands-free waste basket cabinet, voice-controlled lighting, and even a wave-controlled kitchen faucet! There is just so much from this kitchen remodel story it is almost impossible to showcase it all here on the blog. We hope to film an upcoming episode of the Village Home Show to show you more of these great features in action.
