Aspen Homes- Fall Parade of Homes Upscale Modern Farmhouse Style

We love that twice a year we get to attend the Q.C.B.R. Parade of homes. Every Spring and Fall you have the chance to tour beautiful new homes built right here in the Quad Cities. Having our products in these homes is an honor. We wanted to share with you the beautiful “Ridgewood” home from the 2016 Fall Parade built by Aspen Homes, LLC in Bettendorf, IA.

The perimeter cabinetry for the main kitchen area is the “Prairie” door in a Hickory wood. Koch Classic’s gorgeous “Stone” stain has been applied and the natural variation of the Hickory woodtones is enhanced. This completed design is an amazing example of “warm gray” at its best. Not only are the grays themselves warm tones, the use of stain instead of a paint allows the woodgrain to come through. Woodgrains have a way of giving a natural warmth to a space and this kitchen is no exception. It is warm, inviting, and upscale.

For a unique two-toned island application the “Stone” stain is repeated on each end. An “X” end cap has been assembled and applied for a dramatic look. The stain is a perfect subtle contrast to the “Taupe” paint of the kitchen island. This island design is truly unique and eye-catching. An overhang on the back of the island includes plenty of space for counter-height bar stool seating.

Modern farmhouse kitchen ideas. | VillageHomeStores.comBlending a variety of natural textures and materials helps to suggest the farmhouse style. Adding upscale details like polished stone counters, gold metals, and the use of clean lines and edges take that style to a more refined and classic level.  The “Calcutta Gold” Quartz countertops give the look of a natural marble material, but once installed have all the qualities of an Engineered Quartz: no maintenance at all! We absolutely love the great room light selected from Uttermost that includes gold finishes and leather bands. Great designs are well balanced and thought out. The team at Aspen Homes works closely with our designers here in the showroom to select the perfect palette for every area of your space.  When you have a Great Room setting, every detail selected matters. Selecting a smaller version of this leather Great Room light would have looked amazing above the Dining Room table. Instead, two unique lights were installed and make a statement that helped make this QCBR Parade Home stand out in a very memorable way! Modern farmhouse lighting. | VillageHomeStores.com

Two four-light mini chandeliers by Kichler are a blend of antiqued brass finish, Edison-style bulbs, and  playful exposed cords. With such a bold statement in the Dining Room, a more subtle selection was made above the kitchen island. foyerTwo seeded glass orb pendants from Kichler are the perfect choice above the island. Just around the corner from the Kitchen and Dining spaces is the front Foyer entry to the home.  This same orb shape is repeated but in a caged look including exposed Edison-style bulbs.  We are focusing on the lighting in this project feature because it is truly an important “layer” to your finishes spaces. Many times when building a new home, selecting the lighting can become an overwhelming task after so many other decisions have been made. That is why we have expert lighting designers to help guide you to help see the “big picture”. The bathrooms in this home also include some gorgeous lighting selections. In the Master Bathroom, the lighting becomes the main focal point of the space. Three-light vanity lights provide task lighting above each sink. The main showstopper is the classic and stylish three-light chandelier in the center of the Bath.

The Polished Nickel finish sparkles and shines. Frameless mirrors by Uttermost hang above each sink station. The faceted look of the mirror edges bounce light allover the Master Bathroom. Vanity cabinets from our Koch Classic line are in the “Prairie” doorstyle and painted in the “Fog” finish.  With so much shine and sparkle in the space, a subtle matte finish was applied to the Onyx Collection cultured marble vanity tops. The shared Bath (shown below) also keeps the same warm grays in the mix but brings the Kitchen cabinetry finish into the space. The “Stone” stain on the Hickory wood enhances the woodgrain and adds dimension to the color. Just look at one of the cabinet doors and you will see the beautiful variation of wood tones that are shown.

Gray stained cabinet bathroom ideas. | VillageHomeStores.comThe same matte finish Onyx Collection top in solid “White” is installed in the Bathroom. Again a mirror was selected void of any metal or wood frame. The “Graziano” oval mirrors also by Uttermost are a gorgeous choice. A long double-bowl vanity and a tall linen cabinet provide a lot of storage. These beautiful bath retreats are proof that warm grays have certainly replaced basic beiges in materials selected for new home construction! Premier Custom Homes- Fall Parade of Homes 2016

We love that twice a year we get to attend the Q.C.B.R. Parade of homes. Every Spring and Fall you have the chance to tour beautiful new homes built right here in the Quad Cities. Having our products in these homes is an honor. We wanted to share with you this beautiful home from the 2016 Fall Parade built by Premier Custom Homes in Bettendorf, IA. “White” painted Maple cabinets from our Koch Classic line are paired with “Chilkoot” Engineered Quartz counters. The kitchen island has been painted with Koch’s new “Taupe” paint. This warm choice offers a subtle two-tone option to the kitchen space without forcing a bold dark cabinet or stain as a contrast. The finished look: bright and inviting.

Tucked away in a raised area just off of the kitchen is a  versatile workstation area. Within sight of the great room, this desk keeps any desk clutter hidden from view. What a great feature for busy families! Imagine someone seated at this homework station while you finish up dinner prep. Or perhaps you work from home and want a work option close to the kitchen to keep an eye on projects during the day? When entertaining, this area could be set up as a beverage station. There are so many options.

Kichler “Basford” pendant light.

Two appropriately sized pendant lights hang above the island. Premier Homes and the lighting team at Village Home Stores took one step further and selected lighting that adds character and texture to the space. Kichler Lighting’s “Basford” pendant mixes clean lines and transitional styles with rustic details. Distressed antique weathered wood frames in the fixture and adds a unique look. These pendant lights add so much personality to the kitchen. It is now easy to picture the opposite end of this Great Room to be furnished with on-trend Rustic Transitional details just like the lights.  Same is the case in the Lower Level Bar:

Koch Express cabinets in the “Camden” door and Birch “Stone” stain installed wall-to-wall for a Lower Level Bar area. A sink in the center and space to accommodate a beverage cooler or dishwasher next to it. An open shelf with a lower drawer has been included with a space for a microwave to help keep the countertop clear for entertaining. Including floating shelves in your bar design helps to give you a unique way to display glassware or decorative items. It is easy to picture this wet bar ready to serve a crowd in this home. The same Birch “Stone” stain is repeated in the bathroom cabinetry of the home. We love how this warm gray stain allows the woodgrain to show through. Faux granite cultured marble vanity tops by the Onyx Collection give an upscale look and come in a wide variety of colors and bowl styles. The Lower Level bathroom (shown above) is Onyx Collections’ new “Tiramisu” color and the “Wave” bowl style.

What to Expect: Lighting a Whole New Home With Us

Prepare for the understatement of the century… “Building a home can be overwhelming because of all of the decisions to be made.” Our goal at Village Home Stores is to let you leave with an exceptional customer experience whether you are purchasing laundry soap or an entire home of products. We want the building process to be as simple as possible for our customers. You shouldn’t have to drive around and manage all of these decisions on your own. When building a home, we want you to be able to select as much product as you can from Village Home Stores. This is so we know the end result will look the best it can and so that the process isn’t stressful for you. Great finished projects look complete when one concept is in mind for the entire home.Unique Aged Brass lighting from the Quad Cities Region lighting experts Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

We put together an entire team of Village experts for our new construction customers. Your kitchen designer will have access to your lighting expert and flooring and so on. Communication is the key to a successful project. So where do you get started? Your first step is to set up an appointment with a lighting expert and bring the following to that appointment:

What Do I Bring To My Appointment?

  • Bring a copy of your home print or arrange to have your builder send a copy to our store before your appointment date.
  • Collect some examples of lighting that grabs your eye. These could be magazine clippings or ideas saved to your personal tablet. Take advantage of some of the great online resources for inspiration. Start a board on Pinterest or save images to an ideabook on Houzz. This helps our experts get an idea of what looks and spaces you are drawn to.
  • Bring an open mind. We know that sounds about as cheesy as can be but just like any other shopping you may do, there is so much out there. That Dining Room light you have had saved on Pinterest for three years may not be available now or within your budget. Our experts can help you find an option that does fit within these perimeters. Just keep an open mind to what is available.

fan_pinHaving that open mind will be helpful during the entire building phase. You may be pleasantly surprised when we can find an option that you may even love more than the original light you were hoping for. Collecting examples can be the most fun part of your building process. Many times just a single image of a finished space can help your team of experts at Village out tremendously. Shopping for lighting in catalogs can be difficult. The same light in a catalog will never have the impact it does when installed in a room. Take this ceiling fan on the right for example. When shown isolated on a white background you can tell it has great style and a sophisticated look but would it make a great statement in your room? There are thousands and thousands of fans we could have choose for this Hearth Room in Moline, IL. Seeing it installed you can see that the fan selected looks like it was truly made for the space it ended up in. Our team has the vision for your lighting concept as long as you give them the correct leads. Take a look below at the same fan installed with a beautiful beamed ceiling in the finished Hearth Room in Moline, ILCeiling fans for all budgets and styles. | VillageHomeStores.comIt is perfect for the overall look of the room. When we know the look you are after, we can help you get there. Searching for lighting to go above your kitchen island? Revisit the kitchen images you have been drawn to for your cabinet design and see if the lighting included is part of the look you love.

What Does a “Lighting Concept” Mean?

  • A cohesive look to your home lighting selections as you or a guest use the home.
  • Your lighting selections should compliment each other, not match. This is the role of our lighting experts. They will help you select the perfect scale, style, and application for the lighting you need and keep them all as part of the overall vision for the project.
  • Less work for you! Having our expert lighting team work for you to create this whole home lighting concept is one of the best reasons to work with Village Home Stores. You don’t have to hunt all over town or forage through the online jungle. Share with us your examples and we will prepare a concept for you.

How about we walk you through an example of a lighting concept? The examples we are showing you in this blog post may not be your own personal taste or budget, but it is a fantastic example of a complete lighting concept.bathroom_lighting

This is a home in Moline, IL built by Rodenburg Builders. The lighting for this new home was hand-picked just for this client and their specific taste. No matter what kind of day you are having, it could always use a little extra sparkle. Trust us this home now has a lot of sparkle!kitchen_lighting

The three fixtures shown together above are all found within the same area of the home. Two kitchen island pendants hang within view of the Dinette area and a Wine Room within the kitchen has a clerestory window that peeks a view at the chandelier within. All unique fixtures yet they are not “matchy matchy” lights. Instead they compliment each other and are designated for specific locations and tasks.Crystorama "Carson" 4 light chandeliers above a kitchen island in a Moline, IL home. | VillageHomeStores.com

Stunning “Carson” 4 light chandelier pendants by Crystorama hang above the island (shown above) and give an open and airy look to the kitchen. Right within the kitchen is a Wine Room. This room is illuminated with an enchanting Artcraft “Bella Vista” chandelier (shown below). The light itself is breathtaking. The reflection the crystals cast on the ceiling and the sparkling stone walls make you want a glass of champagne immediately.Artcraft "Bella Vista" chandelier in a Moline, IL home. | VillageHomeStores.com

Much liket the kitchen and entertaining spaces, the Master Bathroom is another excellent example of a calculated lighting plan that has been selected for a finished space that is truly “Pinterest-worthy.” On the main level of the home is a Master Suite that includes a large bath with multiple vanity areas and a walk-in closet. The “Aged Brass” finish on the lighting and plumbing fixtures glow in the spacious Master Bathroom. Here is the lighting concept for that space:master_bath_lighting

The “Kyle” ceiling fixtures, “Livingston” sconces, and “Lyon” closet pendants each have their own unique look but work so wonderful in the completed project. Each of these lights happen to be made by Hudson Valley but are from three series of lighting.
