Bettendorf Iowa- Kitchen Remodeled From Start to Finish

This remodel feature takes us to a Bettendorf Iowa home that was in need of updates to better match the needs and tastes of new homeowners. The Complete Project Management Program at Village Home Stores allowed us to manage every estimate, every step, every schedule, and every detail for these clients. With a plan in place and a schedule in action we were able to remodel this home before they even moved in. Like many of the before stories we share here on the blog, the original kitchen was very nice. A functional design with quality products at the time it was installed many years ago. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t in need of updates. A long kitchen peninsula divided the kitchen from the dining room space and storage was limited to standard height wall cabinets:

We began by removing the existing kitchen, ceiling soffits, and ceramic tile flooring. The new design from Village Home Stores replaces the peninsula with a center kitchen island. This allows us to open up the kitchen to feel included in the open floor plan the home already had. A large skylight at the center of the kitchen is a fantastic feature and will remain a part of the new design.

The photo above shows progress after demo and plumbing and electrical rough-ins have been completed based on the new kitchen layout. A half-wall has been built for the new kitchen island. Many crews were scheduled and coordinated to remodel the kitchen, flooring, a stairway, many upstairs bedrooms, and a master bathroom (more on that in a future post). The most dramatic transformation happened in the kitchen. Take a look at this new stunning bright kitchen!Remodeled kitchen in Bettendorf from Village Home Stores. Beautiful new random-width light Hickory floors from our Bella Cera line in a finish named “Precis” set the stage for the new space. Cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the “Legacy”, Full-Overlay door has been painted in a “White” finish and an “Umber” highlight has been applied. You can see how the Umber highlight helps to accent the details of cabinetry especially the beaded back panel of the kitchen island. Beadboard back panel on kitchen island in a remodeled Bettendorf Iowa home. | VillageHomeStores.com

The skylight, bright painted cabinetry, and light hardwood floors help to give the space a warm and bright feel… but rest assured, we still added an expert lighting plan to the new kitchen. Recessed can lighting was placed throughout to illuminate the new areas of the kitchen and our bestselling Diode LED tape light was installed as undercabinet AND in-cabinet lighting. Diode LED undercabinet lighting used to light interior and underside of cabinets in a remodeled Bettendorf Iowa home. | VillageHomeStores.com

This lighting system is essential to help add ambient and task lighting (shown above in full daylight). This system is low profile, low voltage and creates the perfect wash of consistent light to any area. Electricians love the low-profile versatility of this product because you can “hide” it easily out of sight. Take a look at how easily it is tucked away behind the cabinet faceframe below: Diode LED undercabinet lighting used to light interior of cabinet in a remodeled Bettendorf Iowa home. | VillageHomeStores.com

A tall pantry cabinets fit with adjustable sliding shelves is always an enviable part of any kitchen tour. When your tall cabinet is more than 12″ deep, discuss your storage options with you designer. Slide out shelves can always make pantry access (and staying organized) easier. Tall pantry cabinet with slideout shelves in a remodeled Bettendorf Iowa home. | VillageHomeStores.com

Notice also in the image above that a baseboard molding near the floor has been wrapped around this section of cabinetry. This helps to create a built-in look to the hutch area. The baseboard also gets an added accent from the Umber highlight applied to the cabinet finish. Another tall pantry is down the wall near the refrigerator. More tall cabinet storage is just beyond the new kitchen in the laundry room (shown just through the door in the image below).

A package of KitchenAid appliances in Stainless Steel make this bright and beautiful kitchen extremely functional beginning with the incredible 5 door refrigerator model selected. This full-sided French Door model includes two soft-close refrigerated drawers and a three-tiered freezer layout. One of the drawers has 5 preset temperatures so you can select to store: meat/fish, drinks, greens/herbs, deli/cheese, or even thaw/marinate items. The other drawer includes a Produce Preserver feature ideal for getting the longest life for your fresh produce. Shop the full details of this refrigerator here on our new website or stop by the store today and see it in person.

A Sharp microwave drawer in the center kitchen island includes a tilt-out control panel and blends seamlessly with the other appliances. Microwave drawers install so well into kitchen islands and locating a microwave in a center kitchen island is a more convenient location than having them tucked into a corner or awkwardly above a cooktop. Microwave drawers give a great customized look.

Another great custom kitchen, built-in look is achieved by separating the kitchen cooktop and oven. In this design a 30″ wide 5-burner gas cooktop is installed above a 30″ wide convection wall oven.  Shown below with another great detail of changing the cabinet and countertop depth at the cooking station for added interest. Wall #oven built into base cabinet with Gas #cooktop above. Above the cooktop is a wood hood design with a concealed Broan blower insert. 390 CFMs hidden within a hood cabinet that is taller and deeper than the surrounding cabinets. Looking for options and ideas for your own kitchen hood? Perhaps debating between a metal or wood hood? Don’t miss out on our Pinterest board dedicated to that very topic! Take a moment to notice the scale of the cabinet hardware on the doors and drawers. Cabinet handles and knobs can sometimes be one of the last decisions made but they are so important for a complete design. The handles selected here are an appropriate scale with the door and drawer sizes. Smaller “standard” sized handles would look out of place. The wall surfaces of the new kitchen keep the light bouncing around perfectly. Glossy, glass subway tile adds texture and style to the space. This 3″ x 6″ tile is from our Appeal series in a neutral color named “Cloud Cream”Glass subway tile in a remodeled Bettendorf Iowa home. | VillageHomeStores.com

Classic Subway Tiles can be installed in a number of patterns. We love the choice here to use a Herringbone pattern. It adds a playful look to the classic tile shape. The countertops in this kitchen are another neutral and classic choice. This “Chakra Beige” engineered quartz is one of our promotional-priced colors at the time of this feature. It blends well with painted or stained cabinets and shown here with the light Hickory floors it looks perfect. Quartz is a no-nonsense counter material for your kitchen. It is non-porous (no stains) and heat and scratch resistant! Once installed, there is no maintenance needed and the surface can be cleaned easily with soap and water or any non-abrasive cleaner.

2018 Q.C.B.R. Home Show Recap

Well we have officially finished unpacking everything and almost have our showroom back together again after another fun and successful Q.C.B.R. Home Show at the Rock Island Q.C.C.A. Expo Center. From Thursday evening through late Sunday afternoon, we greeted hundreds of guests in our booth space.

In years past we have installed entire kitchen displays the week leading up to the big show. This year we chose to install a large, eye-catching kitchen island and allow plenty of space to meet and greet visitors to chat about their own projects. The island this year made a BIG impact! We took a few risks and your response was so great. Blue cabinetry, wood details, golden accents, and purple?! Painted blue cabinetry with Acacia wood detail and Cambria Annicca quartz in the 2018 QCBR Home Show booth by Village Home Stores. | Village Home Stores

At the very center of our booth was a giant island constructed of cabinetry and panels in our new Charcoal Blue painted finish. The island was accented with sections of Acacia hardwood. We have already installed many projects throughout the Quad Cities region in this new blue cabinet color and the look is great. We also wanted an opportunity to showcase the “X” style of glass door mullions that is available. Painted blue cabinetry with doors cut for glass but instead backed with Acacia wood planks. | Village Home Stores

Mirror and glass just didn’t stand out enough against the “X” detail so we thought a bit out of the box. The same Acacia wood from our back paneling was used as an “insert” attached to the inside of the doors. This contrast in color and pattern made for a bold but amazing look that could be seen from all the way down the Home Show aisle. An open bookshelf cabinet is found on the opposite side and more Acacia hardwood is installed in combination with the Charcoal Blue paneling and trim.

With an island that large, we need a great looking countertop. We wanted the impact to be striking but not completely over the top. We selected a new quartz design by Cambria® curious to see what your response would be. This marbled look includes details of gold and purple iridescent stone.

Wait, what? Did we say purple?! YOU BET WE DID! This stunning new Anniccadesign from Cambria® Quartz is part of their Marble Collection™ and when viewed from afar, the striking veining of shimmering flecks is beautiful. Take a closer look and the top reveals flecks of gold and a regal purple. It was pretty fun to watch our guests say how much they loved the top and then notice the purple seconds later. Get ready to see more purple as Ultra Violet has been named Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2018. Cambria Annicca quartz in the 2018 QCBR Home Show booth by Village Home Stores. | Village Home Stores

Another popular product in the booth was something we have never brought to showcase at the show, our custom window blinds and shades. This year we brought an example of our Transitions Shades for our visitors to try out and see. Press play below to see these unique blinds in action (and see Seth peek around the corner to say hello).

We have examples of this style of shade in our showroom in downtown Geneseo, IL. The look is truly unique. Of course we brought with us this year some examples of the many options for lighting available at Village Home Stores. It is already impossible to showcase all of the hundreds of thousands of fixtures in our showroom, so to select just a handful to bring for our booth is always challenging. We think our lighting team picked the perfect fixtures this year because our guests loved them!Lighting in the 2018 Quad Cities Home Show booth by Village Home Stores. | Village Home Stores

The largest and most noticeable was the geometric cluster fixture (shown center above) from our Hinkley line. This display of lighting was our more Modern grouping. It showcased the trend of gold and also mixed materials. On the opposite side of the booth we went with a more Farmhouse Rustic grouping of fixtures. The award for most reached at and touched light fixture certainly would go to this chained light (shown center below) by Sea Gull. Lighting in the 2018 QCBR Home Show booth by Village Home Stores. | Village Home Stores

This year there were just as many bath remodel customers we spoke to as kitchen customers. The last few years have been trending this direction for our remodel business. This year we brought a bath vanity display and our Kohler®  Choreographshower system to showcase. This collection of shower walls and adjustable accessory options is fantastic. Stylish options for an easy-to-clean shower look plus the ability to customize the space even after it is installed. Ask a member of our design team with any questions about this great system. Our booth was busy this year and we hope f you were at the show that you were able to get your questions answered. If not you can always reach out  It was so great to meet potential new clients and of course we love it when past clients stop by to say hello too! Your response and feedback for our TV Show has also been such an encouragement. We hope to get four new episodes of the show coming your way in 2018.

We were honored a few weeks ago by being named the Q.C.B.R. Business of the Year for 2017. We value the opinions our customers have for our staff and our store very highly. To also be recognized among peers and colleagues is truly and honor.
