Showroom Updates 2017: New Lighting Showroom

As we mentioned in our previous post, Village Home Stores is growing. In 2017 we have invested in a larger and revised showroom to offer our customers the best customer experience possible for their project with us. Village Home Stores has become the expert destination for Kitchen & Bath design in our region. Now our new showroom space makes it even more fun and exciting to shop for Appliances, Cabinetry, Lighting, and Floorcovering all in one location. Lighting showroom Geneseo, IL | VillageHomeStores.comOur store is committed to being a family-owned and locally-owned business. Our customers have a great appreciation that they can pair our expert service with competitive prices to box stores. That means our customers get competitive prices but don’t sacrifice service before or after the sale. Exterior lighting displays in Village Home Stores showroom. | VillageHomeStores.com

This expansion was extensive! We will be posting a full album of photos from the process to our Facebook page over the next few days. We expanded into another storefront adjacent to our current two showroom locations. The first new space happened within our existing cabinetry entrance. That door is now the main door of our showroom. See the tour of that space here on a previous blog post. We have opened up the connecting walls into it and invested in a stylish and welcoming new lighting showroom space of over 1,200 sq. ft. before_and_after_showroom

What a transformation! With the opportunity to make the space one large design concept, we were able to select materials and products that compliment each other. Textures vary throughout from smooth marble-like quartz to rustic brick-look floor tile. Even our staff is still adjusting to coming around the corner to see this beautiful space. We have already hosted our first team meeting in the new showroom and it was nearly impossible to get over 30 of us to not be distracted by looking around. We were also thrilled that we finally have a space open enough in our store to fit all of our employees at once comfortably. Creative pendant lighting display wall in Village Home Stores showroom. | VillageHomeStores.com

We don’t just open an account with any lighting vendor. The products we sell must represent Village Home Stores as much as the brand name on the box. We view our showroom as a way to showcase the quality products that are available from our vendors. Curious about the Diode LED lighting we alwasy share on the blog and on our TV show? Come see it in person and ask questions. Didn’t think selecting the right light switches was important in a space? Notice our Adorne series installed throughout the new space to see for yourself just how important it can be.Adorne light switches and outlet systems available and on display in Geneseo, IL showroom. | VillageHomeStores.com

Our new lighting showroom was designed to make it easy to see a fixture and not have it get lost within a group of 30 other similar fixtures. Our vendors and product catalogs represent hundreds of thousands of available fixtures, It is more important to us that you don’t get overwhelmed when selecting. That is why our staff is there to help guide you through what is available for you specific needs. Creative wall-mount lighting display in Village Home Stores showroom. | VillageHomeStores.com

We hope this clean and clear display approach paired with our expert staff can make for an easy and fun lighting selection process for any area of your home. We take first impressions very seriously and we value your time. If you haven’t been in to the store for awhile, or if you have just been researching us online, consider this an open invitation to stop by!

Along with lighting, we have installed a full kitchen display and a Master Bath vanity display. We hope these spaces help you to visualize lighting and the full range of products we have available at Village. Our Koch kitchen is a Hickory wood with a Stone stain applied. Viking appliances complete the kitchen. We may be located in a small town but Village Home Stores is home to the largest Viking Range appliance display in the region. Village Home Stores is home fo the largest Viking Raneg appliance showroom in the Quad Cities region. | VillageHomeStores.com

This same kitchen display includes our Legrand undercabinet system fit with speakers, outlets, iPad, and phone docks. Be sure to stop in to see this interchangeable and fun system in action. We are pretty much in love with the antiqued backsplash tile in this kitchen display as well. No judgement from our staff, artistic mirror tile selfies welcome and encouraged. Legrand undrcabinet lighting system available and on display in Geneseo, IL showroom. | VillageHomeStores.com

You don’t need to be working on a project to visit our showroom. You may see staff and customers meeting throughout our showroom when you visit. We often set up to meet outside of our private conference areas when discussing finishes or involving multiple departments on a project. We have included a few areas in this new showroom for our builders and customers to meet with our lighting staff comfortably. We love the rustic table base that our friends at Reclaimed Salvage built for our large meeting table with a Cambria Quartz top.New lighting showroom at Village Home Stores in downtown Geneseo. - VillageHomeStores.com

Since 1984, you have shown us that people choose to buy from people. We would love for you to be able to see some of our staff at work so you can have a familiar face once you are ready to work with us. You may overhear Pat bribing a hardware company with homemade cookies for a rushed delivery, or glance at some project renderings over Therese’s shoulder on her monitor. Stop in soon and you will even see some of our flooring showroom renovations getting completed upstairs.lights

At Village Home Stores we strive to make our customers feel welcome when they enter our showroom no matter the size of their project or budget. You may need a replacement bulb today but if you end up building a home ten years from now, we are here for you. Our best compliments come from the referrals from our customers. We have clients who drive an hour or more just based on a referral from a friend or relative about their experience at Village Home Stores. When they arrive, our goal is to make our customers relaxed and inspired.Rustic Cherry Master Bath vanity display in the newly remodeled Village Home Stores showroom. | VillageHomeStores.com

Colona, IL- Lakeside Home Gets a Refreshing New Remodel

Not every before and after remodel story involves removing walls to get a new layout. This lakeside home in Colona, IL is the perfect example of what we mean. To get the new kitchen design to “open up” here, we actually closed off one of the walls. Take a look at the before and after below to see the doorway that was closed off in order to create a full U-shaped layout for the new kitchen:
kitchen before and after in Colona, IL. Remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

What a transformation! Now this wall has become the main focal point of the new design with this hood surround at the center of all attention. Koch Classic Cabinetry in the “Legacy” doorstyle and “Pearl” painted finish with “Umber” Highlight have been paired with Cambria® Quartz counters and a stylish new Stainless Steel appliance package from KitchenAid®. There is so much great storage and style in this kitchen that we HAD to include it in an episode of the Village Home Show just to have the opportunity to show you around in detail. The original kitchen was in desperate need of more drawers for storage. This new layout includes many drawers in the kitchen perimeter as well as the new kitchen island. Press play below to see for yourself.

When you choose to work with Village Home Stores you can expect to get the best experience available from our expert staff. This includes how you are able to visualize your project during the designing and material selection stages. Below are the design renderings that were presented to this customer in those first few meetings: rendering

Helping you visualize the full concept of your design is a responsibility we take very seriously. It is why you can’t just walk into our store and leave an hour later with a professional design. We are a Kitchen and Bath Design Center. When you set an appointment with us we want you to be so thrilled with your experience from that very first presentation all the way until the final walk-through. Our process may take longer than other stores but we believe that every project deserves the same care and attention no matter what the size. Building a home or remodeling, neither is a process that should be rushed. The hood concept for this kitchen is not ordinary by any circumstances. The look was achieved by building an arched surround for the Cherry wood hood and then tiling the surface with four different 6″ x 24″ Ecowood tiles. The end result is breathtaking and unique!

Unique kitchen range hood surround. | VillageHomeStores.com

Concealed within the Cherry wood hood is a Broan hood blower insert. Not to be ignored right below this new hood area is a KitchenAid® slide-in gas range packed full of style and features! This gas range boasts 5 gas burners on the cooktop ranging from 5,000 to 19,000 BTU’s. Get flawless baking results with convection features in the oven and take advantage of added features like a wireless probe and a steam rack within the oven. Would you believe us if we told you this model is also technically a DOUBLE oven?! That drawer below is not just for storing bakeware or warming dishes!
KitchenAid range with convection oven and baking drawer. | VillageHomeStores.com

KitchenAid® has taken the concept of a warming drawer to a whole new level. Introducing the innovative new baking drawer. This separate compartment allows you to keep warm, slow cook or bake at a different temperature from the main oven and keep dishes warm. This range sits atop a wood-look luxury vinyl tile from our Mannington® Adura Plank line. The “Ashford Walnut” color might fool you in these photographs but trust us, even in person you will not believe this isn’t hardwood. Adura Plank Luxury Vinyl Tiles (also known as LVT’s) are durable, scratch-resistant, waterproof, and easy to clean.  The sink wall of the new design has changed dramatically once the doorway to the nearby Living Room was closed off.
Kitchen before and after with new copper farmhouse style sink. | VillageHomeStores.com

The refrigerator was moved to the opposite end of this sink wall and an undermount copper farmhouse sink is the new eye-catching detail of this section of the new design. An arched valance in the toespace of the sink base cabinet is an added design detail that helps set the look off. This copper sink will begin to age with a beautiful patina and become a character piece in the new kitchen.
Copper undermount farmhouse style sink. | VillageHomeStores.com

This copper farmsink has been under-mounted to new Engineered Quartz countertops from our Cambria® Quartz line. The quartz design selected for this project is named “Langdon” and the 1/2″ rounded edge profile has been applied to the tops. The veining and charactor of a slab of natural granite, but all of the benefits of maintenance-free quartz. Cambria® is the perfect material for this project. The large island top is the best showcase of the pattern and colors:
cambria_langdon

The new kitchen island is a large surface for preparation, and entertaining. The cooktop used to dominate the old island counter surface but now the island is versatile and stylish. outlets on each end of the island are camouflaged in color to allow access to power when needed but not steal from the finished look of the applied door paneled ends. The doorway into the new kitchen was widened to open up the space. A peninsula was installed at the entrance to provide more storage and counter surface as well as an overhang to accommodate seated guests.
Before and After images of a remodeled kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

This new widened entrance with a peninsula has changed the overall layout and function for the kitchen. Above the peninsula overhand hand two decorative pendant lights by Kichler. This couple chose to install the “outdoor” pendant style of this light because they included this beautiful seeded glass. We think the lights are perfect!
Kichler pendant lighting with seeded glass above a kitchen peninsula. | VillageHomeStores.com

Shown behind the lighting in the image above are two X-shaped wine cubbies. Plenty of wine storage is easily accessible from either side of the peninsula when entertaining. When guests enter the new kitchen design they get the illusion that instead of a peninsula and an island, this kitchen has two islands. This look is achieved by having the complete island in a Cherry “Mocha” stain plus the back and end of the kitchen peninsula has been installed in that same “Mocha” finish.
Kitchen with Peninsula and island. | VillageHomeStores.com

The Cherry “Mocha” stain from the island and peninsula is repeated in the wood hood area. Two-tone look kitchen designs have come a long way in the past few years. You are not just limited to contrasting crown or an island. Ask you designer what creative ways you could include a second finish in your own design.

The cooking center of this new kitchen is stylish and extremely functional. Not only are there incredible features on this new KitchenAid® gas range, the storage and surfaces surrounding it grant the user the best experience possible. Everything is right within reach including a tray divider cabinet and pullout spice rack. There is available countertop surface on each side of the hood surround and access to that incredible new Island top directly behind the user.

Cordova, IL- Rustic Transitional Kitchen Remodel

This Cordova, IL kitchen is a sophisticated approach to the Rustic Transitional style. Rustic Beech cabinetry from our Koch line includes knots and other rustic features and a rich “Chestnut” stain dresses up the space. Solid gray quartz countertops and Stainless Steel appliances complete the look…. and that look is breathtakingly gorgeous! hidden_drawer_cabinet (1)

The “Vicksburg” doorstyle selected is a full-overlay style. This means that the doors and drawer fronts span as far across the cabinet face frames as possible leaving little gap between each cabinet. A great example of this seamless full-overlay style is the pantry area that surrounds the new double drawer refrigerator.

Staggered heights and depths were used to add interest to the large L-shaped layout of wall cabinetry. There are many excellent cabinet storage solutions in this kitchen design. The image below showcases the “X” shaped wine cubbies included. Wine storage and display in the perfect location at the end of the kitchen. The cubbies cap off the wall cabinetry and when entertaining, this leg of the design is perfect to set up as the beverage center.

Many of the specialty storage cabinets are hidden from first glance. You don’t need a pull-out cabinet or borrow space in your pantry cabinet for spices, spice racks can be added to your wall cabinetry. Click the thumbnail below to watch this wall cabinet open up to reveal spice racks installed on the interior of each door.

Of course the best way to optimized the corner of your kitchen is to include a lazy susan cabinet. This kitchen has an all wood susan cabinet in an angled front layout. Replacing the L-shaped susan cabinet with space for a full radius of shelf to turn within.  This is an alternative to the traditional susan shelves that form a “Pac Man” shaped shelf. The same angled front door is repeated in the wall cabinetry above.

You also gain added counter space in the corner when using the angled front style of corner cabinet. Ans speaking of counter space, there is plenty with the new dual-height island design. The built-in cooking center is on the interior side facing the kitchen sink. Tall cabinets form the bar-height side of the island. A overhang on the tops stretches in toward the great room and provide seating for 4 guests.
Two height island in kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

Instead of simply adding a panel that looks like finished cabinet doors, why not make them real doors? At 12″ deep, these full-height door cabinets give a polished look to the back of the island plus add a lot of storage. Extra dishes, bulk items, small appliances, even board games and remotes can all be stored here out of sight but right within reach.
Storage on back of kitchen island. | VillageHomeStores.com

Storage is great but many will also appreciate the construction of these Koch Cabinets. This Cordova, IL kitchen has been ordered from Koch’s Imperial Series of construction. This plywood construction series includes upgraded materials as well as upgraded assembly processes that add to the integrity and longevity of your investment. Koch Imperial Series Cabinetry. | VillageHomeStores.comAll of these upgrades plus option to upgrade your drawer box construction and guides as well as your door hinges to a soft-close option. The 1/2″ plywood sides may also be ordered with applied 1/4″ veneered skins for finished ends. Talk with your designer at Village Home Stores about the cabinet construction upgrades that are available for you and your project. This customer upgraded to full-extension, soft-close drawer guides and soft-close hinges on the doors. A clean built-in look was achieved in the island by including a wall oven with cooktop installed above in place of a slide-in or freestanding unit. This can be done with a gas, electric or induction cooktop. The appliance package selected for this remodel is from the Whirlpool line available at Village Home Stores.
Wall oven with cooktop above. | VillageHomeStores.com

Surrounding the built-in oven are two tray divider cabinets. To the left of the new oven and tray divider cabinets is a large stack of drawers. This unit looks like a two drawer cabinet but behind the top drawer is a hidden third drawer perfect for utensils, lids, or potholders. Click the thumbnail below to see this hidden third drawer cabinet.

houzz_album

We have a full album of photos from this project uploaded to our Houzz.com portfolio. See these images and save some to your own ideabooks by clicking here. Houzz is a fantastic way to organize your project inspiration and even communicate with your designer at Village Home Stores. If you are building or remodeling anytime soon you will want to download this app to your tablet and phone. The adjacent front sitting room area of the home was also given a whole new look. Two sections of wall surrounding the fireplace now have built-in cabinetry that matches the style and finish of the kitchen. Wood countertops in the same “Chestnut” stain help give the units a custom look but set them apart from the kitchen while keeping everything coordinated.  Another detail is the addition of textured water glass inserts inside of the cabinet doors. The freedom to display items within without the exposed shelves to gather dust.
fireplace cabinetry to match new kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

This home has been updated and is almost unrecognizable from where it began. Step in from the front door and the new open kitchen and living spaces looks like a brand new home worthy of a magazine cover feature! Prophetstown, IL- Master Suite Remodel

Join us as we tour this beautifully remodeled Master Suite in Prophetstown, IL. Rustic materials with a refined look, it looks amazing! A set of French doors with textured glass open up to reveal a new space including a custom tiled shower, large soaking tub, a private watercloset area, and a stunning vanity area.
entrance

This Master Suite in the countryside is a rural retreat with earth tones and flowing organic lines in the mirrors and lighting selections. Neutral colors were selected as a backdrop to help showcase details like rustic knotty wood cabinets and some of the most interesting vanity sinks we have ever installed!
vanity with two unique vessel sinks. | VillageHomeStores.com

Two vessel sink areas are divided by a wall cabinet that meets the countertop in the center. A stack of drawers in brought out deeper to create a divided look and add interest to the shape of the vanity top. Koch Cabinetry in the “Vicksburg” doorstyle has been installed in a Rustic Beech wood species. This rustic wood is dressed up in a “Mocha” stain.

We love how the bright polished chrome hardware stands out on this rich “Mocha” finish. Speaking of standing out, how fun are the vessel sinks and faucets!?! These unique faucets seem to “sprout” out from the countertops. When turned on, the smooth glass design waterfalls down into the matching vessel sink. What a great look!
Unique vessel sink. | VillageHomeStores.com

These unique sinks rest on a beautiful piece of maintenance-free quartz. Quartz is a fantastic material to use in a bathroom because it is durable and non-porous. This means that spilling any products onto the top will not cause damage to it. There is no risk of scratching or scorching the tops either. Cambria Quartz in the “Fairbourne” design is a great subtle choice as a base to showcase these unique sinks. The look is beautiful and this customer selected a great edge profile to showcase the unique custom shape of their vanity design as well. The “Waterfall” edge from Cambria catches the light and adds a great detail to the look.

Tour this entire bathroom remodel on a recent episode of the Village Home Show. We walk you through every detail and finish. Press play in the thumbnail below to see this bathroom plus a hall bath and kitchen work that were all completed by our store.

Other details include the addition of furniture style feet in the toespace of the sink cabinets. This helps give a more convincing furniture-style look and adds a formal feel to the rustic materials. Adding feet may seem like a small detail, but it is these small details that work together to give a truly customized end result.

In this Master Bathroom the shower has been separated from the tub area. Visible right upon entry into the Master Bath, this shower is eye-catching but not to be upstaged by the beautiful tiled tub area in front of it.
Tiled walk in shower and tub in remodeled master bathroom. | VillageHomeStores.com

There is plenty of space for a large “drop-in” soaking tub. A tiled deck surrounds it and the accent tile from the shower is carried over into the front apron area of the tub plus the back of a custom tiled niche.
tub

Consider ever bit of space as a chance to love your finished design. This wall niche is in the perfect location for soaps and toiletries to be stowed away. The niche also gave a great opportunity to repeat the accent mosaic tile.
Tiled wall shelf in bathroom. | VillageHomeStores.com

Speaking of customizing every corner of your design, why not add a bench in your shower. This tiled corner bench area might not seem like a large feature but it can be a place to rest a leg when shaving, or even set down toiletries within reach. benchSo many of the bathrooms we remodel now include a custom tiled shower instead of a standard unit. Custom showers like this allow us to add the shower to whatever unique location you may have. Many times this means you may end up with a larger and more open shower look. Tiled showers commonly receive a custom glass entry of some sort. In this case, a short threshold of tile was installed and an glass door hinges out into the Bathroom.
tiled shower entrance. | VillageHomeStores.com

To help let in as much natural light as possible, a fixed pane of glass is installed from the kneewall behind the tub to meet the top of the custom door. The finished look is great and the end result is a more open and bright shower space.
glass_detail

There is plenty of storage in this new Master Bath. Whatever will not fit in the vanity area can certainly find a home in this built-in linen cabinet. A tall cabinet front was ordered to match the vanity area and now this corner of the bath has a customized look.
linen cabinet up to angled ceiling. | VillageHomeStores.com

In the opposite corner of the bath from the linen cabinet is the stool. A private “water closet” space can be a wonderful layout choice when planning a large bathroom like this. The light oak trim and doors are a great contrast to the dark Rustic Beech wood of the cabinetry.
watercloset

This same light wood finish is found on the set of French Doors that lead out from the Bath into the Master Bedroom. In place of a clear glass or even mullioned wood and glass doors, textured inserts were selected. We love the way this allows light in and out of the Bathroom while also giving privacy with the heavy texture. Village Home Stores has a wide selection of doors and millwork that we can provide during a project like this.

Geneseo, IL- Basement Bar

We don’t just create amazing kitchen and bathroom designs at Village Home Stores. There are many other types of spaces in your home that a custom design might be needed for. The home bar is a fantastic example of one of these spaces. Sometimes you really do want to go where everybody knows your name. If you are lucky enough to have a bar this amazing in your own basement…. you had better believe a LOT of folks will want to know your name! Grab a drink and let’s take a look around.Georgia Bulldogs themed bar in Geneseo, IL | VillageHomeStores.com

Home bar design by Village Home Stores. This Geneseo, IL basement bar remodel brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “nah. I think I’ll just have some friends over and watch the game here”. Why would you ever have to go out when you have this at home? Truth is… you rarely even see real taverns with as beautiful of a custom bar anymore. The barkeep here happens to be a bit of a Georgia Bulldogs fan but with a little bit of imagination you can picture it done up with your own team’s swag. Custom Rustic Cherry cabinetry has been distressed and a “Mocha” stain with “Black” accent glaze has been applied. The “Seneca” raised-panel doorstyle was used on the bar cabinetry. This raised-panel look is perfect for a Traditional styled bar created with the Koch Classic cabinetry.

Home bar featuring Georgia Bulldogs memorabilia. | VillageHomeStores.comThe main cabinets included in this home bar are only visible to the bartender himself. The most important view of this space is as a guest. The bar can comfortably seat 6 at the bar-height top and two more at the counter height top (shown above). behind those barstools are custom wainscot panels that perfectly compliment the cabinetry on the interior and back bar of the space.Wainscoting bar ideas. | VillageHomeStores.com

Shown in the image above, these wainscot panels are divided up with fluted column details and decorative wood corbel supports. As we share time and time again on this blog, details always make the design. Details you can see and appreciate plus details you can use and appreciate. Having a bar rail on the lower section of this bar helps make it really look complete. Including a bar rail on your project looks great and is so fantastic as a seated guest! Having a place to rest your feet when sitting at that height for extended amounts of time is important in making visitors feel comfortable. stainless_bar_rail

Traditional polished brass bar rail is still available but and updated look is created here by using a Stainless Steel bar rail system. Another detail that most female guests can appreciate are the purse hooks that were added just below the countertop overhang.purse_hook_on_bar

Georgia Bulldogs themed bar in Geneseo, IL. | VillageHomeStores.comThese hooks are very necessary in public establishments as a way to keep your handbag within reach and away from sticky floors. This home bar is very well kept so sticky floors are not a problem. Instead, the purse hooks are a thoughtful detail. Lets take a look at the back bar area that bar patrons can see. The wall has been fit with open shelves for bar accessories and memorabilia plus glass shelves for bottles and glassware. A 15″ wide built-in ice maker from KitchenAid provides uniform 3/4″ x 3/4″ x 1/2″ sized cubes. What looks like a tall pantry cabinet to the left of the ice maker is actually access to the real “back of the house”. Press play below to see this walk-through pantry front that is an entrance to the storage area of the lower level.

As you turn the corner, a 27″ wide built-in combination microwave and wall oven has been included in the design. With a lot of guests you will need to feed them. This microwave and oven are perfect for helping with that task. Directly across from the oven on the counter-height bar is a small 2-burner electric cooktop perfect for prepping food and serving guests. Two-burner electric cooktop. | VillageHomeStores.comThis smooth cooktop takes up a small amount of space but adds a lot of function to this area of the home bar. The countertops installed on the bar are a granite named “Saturnia”. In place of a polished look to the stone, a “brushed” finish has been used. This creates a more matte look and enhances the texture and patterns of the stone. Of course with all the food and drinks getting served at this bar you will need a bar sink. Bar sink in a home bar designed by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.comA single well Stainless Steel undermount sink is fit with a faucet and pullout sprayer. A garbage disposal button has been included to the left of the faucet. A tilt-out tray on the false drawer below the sink keeps sponges and dishrags out of sight when not in use. Of course cleaning up after entertaining is always made easier with a dishwasher. This 24″ KitchenAid is so quiet you could even have it running while entertaining. lighted_glass_shelvesKitchenAid beverage cooler in bar. | VillageHomeStores.comA mirrored back wall and glass shelves make for an impressive display for memorabilia and bottles. Glassware can also look great in this application. A colorful light system was installed behind the glass shelves to illuminate the wall in the evening. Adding mirror is a great way to open up any space. A glass-front beverage cooler is accessed near the cooktop area below the lower counter height top. This cooler from KitchenAid can be used as a built-in (shown here in our design) or freestanding. The same is true of the 15″ ice maker.Georgia Bulldogs home bar. | VillageHomeStores.comThere is an impressive amount of space behind the bar. Great storage including sliding shelves, pullout trash bins, and drawers for tools and towels. For a large crowd there is even extra seating on the interior of the bar. All this seating plus pool, shuffleboard, a game table, and a walk-out to the backyard fire pit. Why would you ever need to go anyplace else but home? Another great element are the fluted columns that stretch from the bartop to the tray ceiling. Fluted columns in a home bar. | VillageHomeStores.com

This same fluting detail can be found dividing the wainscot panels on the back of the bar. The carved wood corbel supports and fluted details are enhanced with the accent glaze that has been layered over the stain.column_detail This rich cherry wood, gorgeous granite tops,  and all of the design details create a home bar that outshines many of the public spaces opening up nowadays. We really love helping our customers make the most of their experiences at home. We love helping provide the perfect setting and creating spaces that bring people together. Cheers to these clients for welcoming us in to show you around this unforgettable home bar. custom_bar_cabinetsLooking for other great ideas for your home bar? remodel_geneseoThis featured kitchen remodel in Geneseo, IL gives a new layout that includes designated zones to help keep clutter to a minimum for this busy household.
Geneseo kitchen remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores

Any busy household could use some help when it comes to the subject of clutter control. “A place for everything and everything in its place”. That’s a great concept to embroider on a pillow but even with a brand new kitchen, let’s be realistic. Take a look at this design solution. A large-item drop zone area. This is easily our most favorite part of the new design.
Kitchen drop zone from Village Home Stores.hook

Kitchens tend to be located by the entrance used most by residents of the home. Where do you throw all your stuff when you walk in the door? Including a drop zone area in your kitchen design can help to give your items a built-in place to rest. This design includes a cabinet above, two coat rack cubbies with hooks, and storage drawers below. The drawers below become the perfect location for this family to store petfood and supplies.

A matching beadboard panel has been installed to the back of this bench drop zone area. The ridges of the Birch beadboard help dress up the look of the coat cubbies when nothing is stored there. Hanging two-sided coat hooks from the bottom of the cabinet area above gives bulky items more space to hang. Have you ever heard a friend or family member complain they didn’t have enough drawers in their kitchen? Well imagine how jealous they would be of this corner of our featured remodel.

This new kitchen design “wraps” the corner as it transitions into the drop zone area. The stack of drawers found right at the “turn” of the corner adds even more storage for non-kitchen essentials. Because this drop zone area is located right at the center “hub” of the home, any number of items can be stored here that might be needed. Take a look at a “Before” photo from this Geneseo kitchen just to see how much it has changed:before

Dated cabinetry, hardware and tops have been completely upgraded for a stunning new look. Rich “Mocha” stained Birch cabinetry has been installed in the “Savannah” Shaker doorstyle from our Koch Classic line. If you love the look of this Cherry look on a more affordable wood species, be sure to check out this other featured kitchen on the blog. crown_molding

The refrigerator in the new design has been moved to the sink wall. A small landing space of countertop has been included to the left of the Stainless Steel Whirlpool refrigerator. Hidden within the cabinet is a charging station. Including specified zones for devices is another way to keep kitchen counter clutter under control. Whirlpool refrigerator WRF736SDAM13 | VillageHomeStores.comdepthThe new refrigerator has been surrounded with matching Birch end panels. It is important to note that even though the design has “built-in” the new refrigerator, it still extends out into the space. Be sure to discuss counter-depth vs. standard-depth refrigerator models choices with your kitchen designer and appliance salesperson at Village Home Stores. This layout does not demand the clearance or look of a counter-depth model. Because of that, a full-depth model that offers 25 cu. ft. of storage can be used for this new Geneseo kitchen. Counter-depth refrigerator models can look great and be a space-saving option but don;t forget you do lose capacity when compared to a standard-depth model.pantry

Directly across from the new refrigerator is a tall pantry cabinet. This cabinet has been fitted with adjustable slide-out shelves. In place of cabinets with slide-outs surrounding the range, two large drawer stacks have been included. Now all baking items, pots and pans, and lids are within reach of the cooking zone of the kitchen. full viewCambria WinchesterThe new hardwood flooring in this featured kitchen is beautiful. A Hickory wood from Hallmark’s “Chaparral Collection” has been stained in the “Sagebrush” finish. Other materials from this featured remodel include Cambria’s “Winchester” design quartz tops and a mosaic tile accent strip that truly ties everything together. Working with Village Home Stores gives you the piece of mind that your kitchen will look great. We build a whole team of salespeople just for your project, That way all of the finishes and materials function and look fantastic!

Taylor Ridge Remodel: Traditional Style in a Rustic Setting

Taylor Ridge Kitchen remodel by Village Home StoresLike so many of our most successful kitchen transformation stories, this one includes the removal of a wall to open up the existing kitchen space to create a more open concept for the home. We loved this remodel project so much that we featured this kitchen on an episode of the Village Home Show. Also included in this episode is a tour of the adjacent bathroom that includes a Laundry area on the main floor. Main kitchen remodel by Village Home Stores

Living through a complete kitchen remodel can be quite a process. Kitchen remodels are so rewarding once complete, but they do take some time. Great kitchen transformations like this don’t happen overnight. Watch this episode of the Village Home Show and see how this space was transformed from start to finish.

As you saw in the video above, much of the work done to this kitchen happened before any of the new cabinetry was installed. Just look at this wall that was in the way of the original space:Before and after remodel iin Taylor Ridge by Village Home Stores

By removing that wall the new kitchen is now a part of the front living room and natural light can pour in from all directions. This pair of Taylor Ridge newlyweds were not just challenged with the space restrictions of the existing kitchen, they also had a mix of personal styles that they wanted to be addressed. Located up on the sweeping hills of Taylor Ridge, the couple wanted to be sure to nod to the rustic setting even though their personal tastes were more timeless and Traditional.

Kitchen remodel with island by Village Home Stores

Their designer from Village Home Stores was excited to get to work on finding them the perfect selection or materials to give the right finished look to the space. Of course the look and feel of the new kitchen is only a fraction of what makes it a well-designed kitchen. The function of the design is most important, especially in your kitchen. Let’s start by looking at the layout of the new design.Design rendering by Village Home Stores

In the case of this kitchen, spreading out into the new space and adding areas for prep, storage and entertaining were key. A large island in the center of the design checks off all of these boxes. Even with the new large island in place, there is still plenty of room for a full dining room table on the opposite end of the room. Kitchen island by Village Home Stores

A single level island was designed with adequate seating space for four (plus plenty of leaning up to and chatting space for many more). The island includes storage accessible from three sides and decorative paneling and trim all around it to give the look of a large furniture piece. This leaves the view seen buy guests Traditional and stylish from every angle.Appliances by Village Home Stores

The island side facing the kitchen user includes the dishwasher and built-in microwave drawer. The entire package of kitchen appliances is from Village Home Stores and includes a 29 cu. ft. refrigerator and double oven gas range from KitchenAid. A Sharp microwave drawer, and Broan hood insert have also been installed. With the dishwasher and microwave facing the sink and a wood hood in place of a stainless unit, there is less Stainless Steel in the overall first impression. This keeps the look updated but Traditional without having to invest in panel-ready appliances. Outlets in island by Village Home Stores

With an island this large you will want to use it for many tasks. An outlet is camouflaged discretely on the end facing the cooking wall of the kitchen.  Now small appliances can be used for prep and entertaining.

Moving the refrigerator to the opposite wall helps to keep all of the main kitchen appliances in one zone of the kitchen.  The large kitchen island is located right in front of the refrigerator to provides plenty of space for loading and unloading items. With the largest appliance to the left of the sink, that frees up the entire other wall for a chance to create a dramatic look for the new kitchen. two-tone kitchen by Village Home Stores

Above the new double oven gas range is a wood hood with decorative corbels. Framed in by lighted glass-door cabinets on either side, this wall is the focal point of the entire room. Walking in the front door your eyes lock on this area right away! The main tile throughout this kitchen is glass subway tile appropriately named “Truffle” by Ann Sacks. The mosaic inset above the range is is from Epic Stone. This mosaic perfectly combines the colors of the field tile, Cambria Quartz countertops, and wall cabinetry. scrolled corbells by Village Home Stores

This scrolled corbel style helps anchor a Traditional style to the overall look. The painted “Pearl” finish on Koch’s “Royale” doorstyle has been accented with an “Umber” glaze perfectly showcased here on the corbels. You may have noticed the contrasting island of this kitchen but did you notice the other bold contrast of this look …?dark base lower and light upper cabinets by Village Home Stores

The base cabinetry of this entire kitchen is a rich “Mocha” stain while all of the upper cabinetry and refrigerator surround is in the “Pearl” painted finish. This may be a bold concept to hear described to you but look at it in action here! The upper cabinets seem to almost “float” above and give the whole room a larger feel. This contrasting concept can be executed for all styles from Contemporary to Old World.spice cabinent by Village Home Stores

A pullout spice rack is accessible just to the right of the double oven gas range. these spice cabinets are available for both base units and wall units.

Just to the right of this wall is the hallway that is now easily accessible from the open kitchen, dining, and living room. Sliding barn door in kitchen remodel by Village Home Stores

A handcrafted custom barnwood door by Character Interiors has been installed on sliding hardware that includes a lock on the interior. Behind this barndoor is a large double vanity bathroom with a tub shower and front-load laundry from Maytag. In the episode posted above in this post we give a full tour of this new bathroom space. Across the way, an unused corner of the original kitchen has now been given a brand new look.

hutch before and after remodel by Village Home Stores

This built-in hutch cabinet helps extend the kitchen cabinetry into the dining space and give a customized look. The lighted top section of the wall cabinet provides a fantastic ambient light source and a space for displaying items. wood countertop by Village Home Stores

A custom wood top has been installed in the same finish as the island and base cabinetry from the main kitchen. This helps tie the rich “Mocha” stain into the hutch area but keeps the entire section looking like a Traditional sideboard cabinet. Our Diode LED undercabinet system is installed underneath the painted cabinetry and inside of the glass-front wall cabinets. With a dimmer switch function added, these efficient lights can be used all day every day no matter what the mood is. cage light by Village Home Stores

There are two other great lighting zones in this gorgeous new space. This Dining 4-light chandelier is from our Golden line. Exposed bulbs in clear glass caged in a dark finish keeps the light from seeming to large. You can see through it into the new kitchen and pendents just beyond it. pendant lighting by Village Home Stores

These 3 pendant fixtures are from our Minka-Lavery line. Hanging pendants above an island can be done in so many ways. we love the look here of a cluster of lights hung at varied heights. The visible filament of the “Edison” style bulbs and varied heights here help lend a more whimsical feel and add rustic Old World charm.sink remodel before and after by Village Home Stores

Rock Island Remodel: Bigger & Brighter

rock_islandA Full Kitchen Remodel Managed from Start to Finish By Village Home Stores.

before_photoThe “before” story of this remodel looks like many kitchens throughout the Quad Cities. White laminated thermofoil cabinetry was extremely popular years ago and commonly paired with black, gray, and white color schemes. In its time this was a pretty incredible look in kitchen design. Also common in this era was the look of soffits above the cabinetry. This kitchen in Rock Island is ready for an update…

Kitchen_Contractor_Rock_Island…and talk about a transformation! This bigger and brighter new kitchen in Rock Island, IL is gorgeous and seems to have almost doubled in size!

sharp_microwaveThis space has been updated with a design that is timeless and sophisticated. “Pearl” painted cabinetry with an “Umber” glaze from our Koch Classic line  is paired with Cambria quartz in the “Buckingham” design. Stainless steel appliances by KitchenAid are built-in for a customized look. In place of a countertop or microwave hood,  an over-the-counter microwave by Sharp is installed above the drop zone at the entry of the kitchen. This over-the-counter style is a wonderful option when a built-in look is desired.

remodeling_quad_citiesThe entire kitchen is finished in the painted “Pearl” color but the new eat-in area now within the front room is paneled in  a”Mocha” stain. There is a certain richness and sophistication with this contrast and the bar stools are the perfect choice to balance the light and dark colors together.

kitchen_design_Rock_IslandWith the location of the dining room table now moved into the front room, there is space for a beautiful new hutch area. Take a look at a birdseye view of the overall design for the new kitchen:

kitchen_design_rock_islandYou can see in this new design how adding the new hutch area creates an extension of the new kitchen on that back wall and helps the entire kitchen footprint seem much larger. These homeowners in Rock Island, IL chose to work with Village Home Stores because they wanted to open up the existing space and create one large finished space. They also were wanting someone that could schedule and manage the entire process for them. This type of project is exactly why we offer our Project Management services to our customers.

remodel_timelineRemodeling a kitchen or bathroom is not something that you do every year. In many cases it is something you may only do once in a lifetime. At Village Home Stores this is what we do every day. We can help you as little or as much as you would like. If you just need a design and materials for your project we are here for you and if you want someone to take care of it all from start to finish we are here as well. See the entire album of the before, during and after photos over on our Facebook page here.

kitchen remodel before and afterIn the case of this Rock Island remodel there were multiple crews needed to achieve the end result these homeowners were wanting. We managed everything from start to finish. This includes coordinating a “meeting of the minds” so to speak at your home early in the estimating process. Our project manager can then get accurate estimates and schedule a timeline for your project based on a realistic and efficient use of everyone’s time.

kitchen_design_in_Quad_CitiesThe new kitchen sink and countertop pairs perfectly with the warm Travertine tile backsplash. Every permanent element to this new kitchen design remains neutral but the entire new overall space is playful and exciting. We love the bold artwork that faces the new front room. Plus the new dining room light fixture is a statement in itself.

lighting_store_quad_citiesThis sparkling “Lucia” fixture from Feiss is stunning in person. It looks gorgeous when off and breathtaking when lit. Our lighting team can help you create the perfect lighting plan for your entire space. We have thousands of fixtures to select from and they will help you find just the right one. You can notice when you look beyond this light that the old soffits were also removed when the wall was opened up.

Contractor_Rock_IslandNow the new cabinetry extends all the way to the ceiling. If you didn’t guess from the artwork, the dogbowls above may be a dead giveaway that a dog lives here. Those big dogbowls suggest that “Tucker” has a pretty big appetite. But who wants to take up so much space in that beautiful new pantry cabinet for a bog bin of dog food? Take a look at what feature was worked into the kitchen design instead…

pet_food_storageThis pull-out cabinet includes a covered insert for pet food storage. Now dog food can be stored within reach but out of sight. When we made a little video clip of this cabinet in action “Tucker” was very interested in his food cabinet opening up. Watch it here and keep a close eye on his ears perking up.

range and hoodWith the new cabinetry extending all the way to the ceiling there was not an opportunity to stagger the heights of the decorative wood hood in the new design. Instead a slight change in depth and an arched panel shelf above the cooktop create interest and allow space within it for a Broan hood insert. There was also an area down the hallway that was included in this new look.

hall_closetThis built-in linen cabinet was removed and replaced with matching cabinetry to the kitchen within sight of the hallway. We love how this project turned out and it was amazing how much of a difference it made right away to remove that section of wall and open up the new kitchen into the front room. This big bright room is now the place to be at it is so easy to picture it full of guests having a wonderful time.
