Yesterday one of our appliance experts Rachele and I had a little mom-to-mom conversation (spoiler alert: it’s a mom who writes these blogs) about how we have been keeping our households and our kiddos clean over the past few weeks. We both mentioned how we love our large capacity Maytag washers during any flu season because we have the added piece-of-mind of the sanitize cycle. That conversation inspires us to come up with a list of the top 5 appliances we have on the floor right now that include a sanitize feature. So without further delay, we give you…
Rachele’s Top 5 Appliances on The Village Floor Right Now With a Sanitize Feature:
1 + 2: The 8630 Series Maytag Washer and Dryer
Topping the list is of course the laundry that inspired it. Our 8630 series front loaders from Maytag. It boasts the Most Powerful Cleaning in the industry driven by the Heavy Duty cycle with Extra Power button. It includes all of the best features you have come to expect in a dependable front load machine. Customer favorites like Overnight Wash & Dry, a Quick Wash Cycle, Sanitize, and the late add feature. All backed by a 10-Year Limited Parts Warranty on the Direct Drive Motor and Stainless Steel Wash Basket. A large capacity (so you can literally strip your whole kids bedding and throw it all in one load) of 5.0 cu. ft. makes it a winning investment for any household.
Sanitize cycle– This cycle removes 99.9% of household bacteria with the hottest water temperature available in a Maytag, delivering thorough cleaning and peace of mind.
Guess what? This washer is also a smart capable appliance. For those who think “I don’t need a smart appliance in my laundry room” we ask, do any of these features seem appealing?
Assign a Task- You can handle laundry day as a household from anywhere by assigning tasks to family members (like transferring a load to the dryer) through customized text messages.
Troubleshoot An Issue- Don’t tell Jeff or David on our service team this, but you can troubleshoot select issues without a service call. The app can send notifications of appliance error codes and help you diagnose the error and even send you videos of select issues to walk you through steps to solve the problem.
Schedule You Wash Cycle – Don’t wait around to transfer your clothes from the washer to the dryer. If you know when you will be ready to switch from the washer to the dryer, schedule a start time so your clothes are ready for the dryer on your term.
3: The 704 Series KitchenAid Dishwasher With FreeFlex 3rd Rack
Check out the all new interior of the KitchenAid Dishwasher line! A totally redesigned tub with an extremely usable top rack. An advanced clean water wash system inside of it allows a micro-filtration filter that continues to remove food particles so clean water circulates around all three racks during wash and rinse. A fan-enabled drying system circulates hot air around dishes while warm, humid air is cooled and drawn out of a vent. When we say extremely usable… we mean it! I don’t know about your household, but in mine our top rack is always full of lightweight cups, mugs, and as many bowls as I can fit. This new lineup of KitchenAid dishwashers gives you so much loading capacity! Press play below to check out this video we made of what fits:
And of course this dishwasher made this top 5 list because it also includes a sanitize cycle. Be sure that your dishes, waterbottles, lunchbox containers, and utensils are getting as clean as possible by selecting the Sani-Rinse option.
Sani-Rinse Option – Eliminates 99.999% of food soil bacteria by adding a high-heat final rinse to sanitize dishes.
4 + 5: The 6120 Series Whirlpool Washer and Dryer
This 6120 series we now showcase on our sales floor is an amazing laundry pair for any household looking for a top load option. If you are looking for a washer that will allow you a deep fill and soak settings this is your dream pair! It even includes a new Pretreat StationPlus to soak, scrub and wash all in one spot with a built-in, dual temperature faucet and pretreat brush for quick, easy access to tools that help you get it all done at once. Check out the image below that shows you the built-in detergent brush you can store right in the washer lid.
Sanitize With Oxi- This Whirlpool washer allows you to select this option so that you can get optimal results with using Oxi clean products.

This weekend is a great time to also check your existing appliances to see if you have sanitize cycles and features on your control boards. And as a final thought from the moms behind this blog post, wash your hands!
We all fell in love with the kitchen feature from this home a few weeks ago, and now we wanted to give you a peek at the laundry and master bath as well. Nothing inspires crisp clean laundry days quite like a bright white laundry room. This Bettendorf, Iowa home includes a dream laundry space with cabinetry from our Koch Classic line. The clean lines of the Bristol door are painted in an “Ivory White” finish.
With a laundry space like this, we wouldn’t mind laundry duty! Natural light pours in from a window on the end and a single-wall layout of cabinetry and counter space extends most of the length of the room. Many new and remodel projects we work on have the laundry located near the main living spaces of the home. Gone are the days of descending down into a basement or a closet to do the laundry. Now our customers seek a centrally-located laundry area that can make keeping up with laundry tasks more enjoyable and accessible.
A folding counter is included with space below for laundry basket storage. We love the use of a rolling laundry cart here for style and function. This cart can be rolled right up to the front-load machines. The counter surface in this laundry room is an engineered quartz named “Fossil Gray”. Quartz is a durable and sleek surface ideal for a laundry/utility space like this on the main level of a home. This laundry sink and countertop is ready for any task messy or clean.
If your laundry room design has room for it, we always prefer to include a sink in the layout. Having a sink like this (see below) can let you soak and rinse items and also gives you a place to wash your hands. Because these counters are a quartz surface, we were able to include an under-mounted sink. Now the countertop can be wiped clean easily. The faucet for this sink is mounted on a specific area of the sink layout. Your designer from Village Home Stores will partner with our stone fabrication team to make sure the correct sink and faucet information gets included in the fabrication and installation of your top.
Not every item you wash ends up in the dryer. In fact, the newer high-efficiency model washers spin out so well that most items can avoid a heated dry cycle altogether with a little hanging time. This laundry room layout includes a stylish hanging rod above the folding and sink countertop. The builder installed a shelf and trimmed it out with the crown molding. The look is very nice and certainly beats the look of a last-minute clothes rod install.
So what’s new in Maytag laundry? Well a LOT! We have seen so much change in the last decade with features, finishes, water use, and more. Top-load and front-load laundry models are now fit with so many great features and Maytag offers a wide range of price-points and capacity for your household. Plus every Maytag washing machine comes with a 10 Year Warranty on the motor and wash basket! Maytag laundry products are proudly made in the USA. Washing machines are made in Clyde, Ohio and Maytag Dryers are made in Marion, Ohio.
Maytag has become well known for building dependable, high-performance machines. Of course new features like pre-loaded detergent options, and smart connected features are great. But rest assured that the focus of anything new coming out of those Ohio factories is being built to perform well and last as long as possible. Ask our expert appliance team about the difference between top load and front load washing and what models may be best for your household.
To see more of this laundry room visit the project here on our Houzz page. We also designed a serene and stylish master bathroom in this Bettendorf home. The same Bristol door and “Ivory” paint was used for the cabinetry. Our designer laid out a pattern of drawer bases and sink bases to fill this vanity wall with storage and two vanity sinks.
Across from the vanity wall is a custom tiled shower and stylish tub. Calacatta tile in a variety of sizes and shapes make up the floor and wall surfaces in this space. The best feature of this tile is one you can’t see. These tile floors have a Schluter Ditra-Heat system installed beneath them. And what’s better than heated tile floors? Heated tile floors on a timer so they are all ready for you in the morning!
Marble look engineered quartz tops in the “Calacatta Verona” design will look great for many years to come as the vanity tops. Quartz surfaces clean up easy give the look of a marble in a nonporous surface. Two rectangle undermount vanity sinks are installed in this master bath and a backsplash and two end splashes complete the look.
Ready to talk to someone at Village Home Stores about our own laundry or master bathroom design? We are excited to hear from you! If you need help designing a space for your new or existing home we are your expert team! Your first step is to just reach out and learn more about our store and our process. You can find us at 105 S State Street in Geneseo, IL and call us at 309 944 1344. Learn more about us and all of the many departments you can shop under one roof at villagehomestores.com.
We tend to showcase a lot of our kitchen work here on the blog but… y’all know we do more than that right? We have products for every room in your home and many times find ourselves extending work beyond a kitchen remodel for our clients. Village Home Stores is your Quad Cities area source for kitchen, bath, and more! Yes we can design a beautiful kitchen or bathroom for you but we can also create a dream laundry, craft room, home bar, media room, fitness center, man shed, she shed, mudroom… the list goes on and on. Our latest featured kitchen remodel was really a complete overhaul of the entire back end of this busy Coal Valley, IL home including five other rooms we worked in.
If you haven’t toured the kitchen in this home yet, take a peek here at that tour. We created a stunning custom kitchen that included a home bar and hutch area plus a large walk-in pantry borrowing existing space from the back door rooms of this home. There are now many new finished spaces just outside of the kitchen. Take a look at the first space we finished right inside the garage door entry. This custom-built mudroom bench/locker area was once just some closet space with bi-fold doors. Now it is #mudroomgoals!
This new dropzone stops kid (and grownup) clutter right at the entrance to the home. Plenty of hook storage for backpacks and jackets ad even more hidden away in the tall cabinet to the right. Deep drawers beneath the bench seat open up to reveal the perfect designated space for shoe storage. On the left, the tall cabinet opens to reveal a designated cleaning supply area making this mudroom the ideal hub for all activity with the luxury of so many places to tuck away items out of sight!
Back door dropzones, mudrooms, and benches have become high on top of every wishlist for any busy household. These organized zones of a home are not just for households with young children! Who else among us comes home from work every day with about three totebags (silently raises hand while typing this blog post). Anyone can appreciate a storage situation like this. Press play below to see this busy household get quickly organized once the kids arrive home from school.
Part of the original space across from that mudroom bench was a long laundry room area. This was the original access to the pool out back. Now that we have installed pool access in the new kitchen, we replaced the laundry door with a windowed wall. Real talk: would YOU want pool guests you are entertaining to walk through your laundry room to use your restroom? Didn’t think so. Now this space has been reworked to tackle cleaning, sorting, and pet needs. Separate wall hooks have been installed for suits to hang and there is a whole wall of incredible storage within this laundry room.
The layout of this home is so unique. There are so many angled rooms included in the design which made us think outside of the box when reworking the spaces. In fact, we have reworked this laundry room and even removed some of the sq. ft. yet it still is a better working layout than before. Take a peek at the rendered floorplan below to see the angled areas and how we “sliced” off part of this room to become the pantry space accessed on the kitchen side.
Within the work crews we had in this home, the most talked about specialty cabinet in the whole project wasn’t in the kitchen! These three pullout laundry basket cabinets got a reaction out of everyone who saw them. Who wouldn’t love the option to sort and stash laundry within reach but out of sight? Ask you Village cabinet designer about including one of these in your laundry room or bathroom design.
The cabinetry in this space was an extension of the same style and color of the accents in the kitchen we installed. However, the hardware in the laundry room was the only area we switched from the brushed gold antique brass look to a brushed nickel finish in the same size and style. We also changed counter surfaces for this room. It may look like we installed granite here… but this is a Formica top folks!
The Formica 180FX series offers our clients an incredible large-format printed design on an affordable surface we have been familiar with for years. You get the look of luxury at a fraction of the cost. This pattern is called “Cafe Azul” and you can see large samples of it and many more options in our Geneseo, IL showroom. Another very special family member named “George” got his own new feature in this laundry room rework too. An Invisible Fence Brand dog door was installed below the new window accessing the backyard. His collar unlocks the door when he approaches so it can open and close only for him. Press play below to see it in action.
As we mentioned before, yes we remodel bathrooms just as efficiently as kitchens! It’s just a different process and checklist. This back hallway powder room got a whole new look and a slightly different layout. Did you know that Village Home Stores can also work on your interior doors and trim during your remodel? We carefully partnered with this client to keep a consistent stain color from the back door through many rooms into the new great room. A pocket door can be a wonderful selection for small spaces. In this angled space, eliminating a door swing helps to keep the high-traffic area open.
The powder room received different cabinetry from the rest of the rooms. Here we installed a Bertch Bath vanity and tall linen cabinet. Each were ordered with tapered legs for a more furniture look. The Northrope Alder style in a “Mocha” stain is paired with a 2 1/2″ thick Venecia cultured marble top. Bertch Bath is a nationally distributed vanity company and is manufactured not to far from us in Waterloo Iowa! Village is always excited to partner with brands local to us to eliminate high fuel/freight charges to you and to make availability and lead-times more efficient for you.
But of course your eye was drawn to this painted floor tile right? The most eye-catching feature in this powder room is this StonePeak Palazzo Florentina tile. Power rooms are an excellent space for this farmhouse/painted tile trend because they are a small space that you want a big style impact in. This is a huge trend on Instagram and Pinterest with no signs of slowing down in the next few years. As an added bonus, this tile gets you the look with fewer grout lines. These are not individual 6″ grid tiles as they appear with the pattern, instead these are 12″ x 24″ large-format tiles. Ask a tile expert at Village about all of our options in panted tiles!
Built ins, media rooms, and home entertainment centers were a huge cabinet category beginning in the late 80’s. As TV’s have evolved in size, shape and thickness, many homes in the Quad Cities area are ready for a new solution for their home entertainment areas. This area was reworked and a custom TV cabinet was ordered to match the Knotty Alder cabinetry of the kitchen that is right within sight of the great room.
Just like our availability to handle the doorways and trim in your home, we also can rework your stair rail systems! We removed the original oak spindles and replaced everything with this new saddle-stained wood and wrought iron combination. New flooring was also installed in the great room, front entry, and dining room.
A balanced blend of medium-to-dark Hickory woodgrains pull out and compliment all of the new cabinetry and the furniture in these spaces. This is a 3/4″ solid Hickory floor from our Paramount Barnwood series in the “Rustic Beam” color. With so many woods and finishes surrounding these floors, selecting one with many colors included is a fantastic choice to help bring everything together.
At the center of this large great room we installed a carpet inlay. This large carpeted area helps to reduce sound and adds comfort (as modeled below by George). This is the Symphony carpet series in the “Swing” color. Our DreamWeaver carpet is a solution-dyed carpeting and comes in so many styles and colors. Solution-dyed carpet fibers mean that the color is permanent! It can’t fade and resists coloring from soiling! More great news for George is that he can’t end up “in the doghouse” because this carpet is available with lifetime pet urine resistance! It also comes with a number of 25 year guarantees like a 25 year guarantee of abrasive wear, texture retention, fade resistance, soil resistance and more!
While you are lounging in this newly remodeled great room don’t forget to look up! These cathedral ceilings had original wood panels and a center beam as a feature. We had our carpentry team revisit the wood ceiling to secure loose panels and we wrapped the beam with found barnwood. The barnwood was custom stained to compliment the new cabinetry in the home. Iron brackets cover the seams of the barnwood and the lighting and fan were updated as well.
Speaking of lighting updates, the dining room got a new look just by changing some of the surfaces and adding new lights. The “Pembroke” series by ELK Lighting is a stunning transitional style that looks right at home in many rooms. A six-light chandelier and two wall sconces were installed in the “Antique Brass” finish. We also extended the Hickory Rustic Beam hardwood into this dining room connecting the spaces all as one concept.
We just filmed this home for an upcoming epsiode of The Village Home Show that will soon air in the Quad Cities viewing area on Sundays at 10am on WQAD. We can’t wait to give you a more in-depth look at the start-to-finish remodel story. To see more of this finished project plus before and after comparisons, head over here to our Houzz profile to view the project we added. Ready for your own before and after remodel story? Just reach out to our team to get started. You can call us at (309) 944-1344 or complete this short online form on our website. Our showroom is open to the public but we encourage making an appointment to be certain you can get all of your questions answered. We can’t wait to hear what you are working on!
Best-selling products don’t just get selected by our sales team, customers decide what they are. What you recommend to your close friends and family is out of our hands and typically those conversations happen outside of our store. One of our favorite phrases to hear from a new customer is “A friend of mine told me about your…” This could be in reference to a service like our remodel project management process or many times, it is a product. There is no better example of a buzz-worthy product than our HE detergent program at Village Home Stores. We have been selling Excelsior HE laundry detergent for nearly ten years. Because we also stock refills of this laundry soap, we get to see our laundry customers when they need more. You would be surprised how often we have someone stop in for a refill only to run into a friend in the store and ask “Do you use this stuff? It lasts forever!” There is no better endorsement than that!
My first box lasted 14 months!
-Heather Seei, Village Home Stores customer
Excelsior is 6x concentrated. That single box shown above holds 5L of detergent which translates to 333 loads! No that is not a typo, we mean three hundred and thirty three loads. It may sound cheesy to say the stuff sells itself but it’s a no-brainer! If you like saving money, protecting your investment in your machine, and hate carrying home a bottle of detergent every other week then this product is for you! Starter boxes are available and come with a bladder full of detergent, a box that can turn into a dispenser, a cup to help you measure liquid for your load, and a free enzyme-powered stain spray for pre-treating tough stains. When you purchase a new washing machine from Village Home Stores you can take $10 off your first box! Once you have that box and are ready for a refill, just come in and purchase a refill bladder and save yourself $10 again!
Does your washer kind of stink? Did you now that using the wrong laundry detergent (or too much of the right ones) can sometimes create odor? When we ask customers to show us how much detergent they use for a full load we find they are waaaaaaaay off! Where do you think that extra detergent goes? HE machines operate using less water and energy and are meant to use and cycle through recommended amounts of HE detergents. Anything more than the recommended amount may not clear out after a cycle and end up someplace inside of your machine. We know this because we also have an award-winning Appliance Service team at Village and they have seen the insides of many washing machines.
How Much HE Detergent Do You Use?
For a full load of laundry in an HE washing machine, you only need to load 1 Tbsp. of Excelsior detergent! Yes one! But does just a Tablespoon for a full load clean my clothes? You bet! There is a lot of power in this concentrated soap plus there is a bleach-free whitener and brighter built into it. Excelsior is an eco-conscious product as well! It is biodegradable and phosphate free! If you are purchasing expensive sensitive skin detergents, you are still purchasing fillers and added chemicals you don’t need. Consider a cleaner, safer option. You don’t have to have an HE machine to use Excelsior! If you are looking to save money on detergent and run a more cleaner product through your existing machine that isn’t an HE model, you can still use this detergent. Just instead add 2 Tbsp. per load.
We told you our customers endorse this product but another opinion you may value is that of our technicians. Remember how we mentioned they have seen the insides of many area washing machines. They also have smelled them. Yuck! The funny thing is, when I texted our service techs to send me a quote about why they recommend the product, they sent me back almost the exact same text. They each mentioned build up is what can make a service call for them pretty stinky and murky.
I recommend Excelsior because there are not all the additives that store-bought soaps have. All those additives plus the soil from your wash cycle build up inside your washer and cause odor.
-Jeff Gerber: Village Service Technician of 17+ Years
Now is the part of this blog post where we should warn you the next images are pretty nasty. Like…. very nasty. One of our technicians offered to send me some photos he had snapped recently at a call. He keeps this photos on hand to show customers what he means by build up. Two was enough to see and I had to beg him to stop sending anymore! So if you have a weak stomach please just scroll past this next image… or pretend it is brownie batter and this is just a fun recipe blog post!
Yeah… we wish that was brownie batter! It’s build-up from excess detergent. Let’s just say you should be thankful you can’t smell your phone or desktop screen right now and get the full effect. It must be noted also that these are not in areas that you can access to clean yourself. These photos were snapped during a service call when one of our techs had the unit opened up for repair. So if you have a service call from Jeff or David and they happen to make small talk about if you use our detergent or not, know that they are just curious what the inside of your machine might look (and smell like). Washing machines are an investment that you hope will last you a long time. Because Excelsior HE detergent has no added fillers, it is the cleanest detergent you can be running through your machine. That is why we don’t just call this a best-selling product but instead we list it on our website as a Servicer Recommended Product!
Yeah But With No Additives… Does it Clean?
Because our team and Excelsior HE detergent believe this is the cleanest detergent out there, they even offer a “No Stinky Washing Machine” guarantee! If you purchase a new washer and only run Excelsior through it they ensure you will never have smelly odors! Just use the Excelsior HE app to register. Once you register you can also qualify for their 30 day Love it/Adore it guarantee! You know what is also pretty amazing? The enzyme stain spray that comes in your starter box. This stuff is great for grass stains, mud, blood, and more! Excelsior Stain Remover spray works with enzymes to removes stains in the wash. Apply two sprays directly to stain, wait 5 minutes then wash as usual.
Pre-Load up to 120 Loads With Load & Go!
If you love the idea of not having to rememeber to buy detergent for many months you are going to love a new feature on some of our Whirlpool and Maytag laundry machines. Truly “set it and forget it” by selecting one of the many new HE washing machines that include the Load&Go system. These cartridges can be pre-loaded with your detergent and your machine pulls exactly the right amount of soap at the perfect time in the cycle. You simply load the detergent and select the concentration level. NOTE: most HE detergents are just 2x concentrated, Excelsior should be set at 6x.
We have many examples of this Load&Go system on the showroom floor we can show you. The team at Village Home Stores sells a wide variety of products. We are happy to stock items like refrigerator water filters, select light bulbs, cleaning products, and more. Partnering with Excelsior detergents allows us to be a local small business source for this great product. We are able to offer it at a very incredible price as a way of thanking our customers for supporting our store and our staff. Have a question about this soap? Call us at 309 944 1344 or stop in Mon-Fri from 9am-5pm or Saturdays from 9am-noon at 105 S State Geneseo, IL.
Last week we were invited to join a few other Illinois sales teams from small businesses like ours at the World of Whirlpool training facilities in Downtown Chicago, IL. Our commitment to ongoing product training is why our customers find such an added value in working with Village Home Stores. There are new features introduced all of the time and it is our passion to help you find the right appliances for your budget and your lifestyle. We also want to be available to help you use your new appliances confidently once you have them installed. Training events like this keep our team savvy and knowledgeable for you.
We try and send our team to product training 1-2 times a year but we have never experienced a training quite like the one we had last week! Two full days of hands-on product demonstrations and chances everywhere we went to use and experiment with the features we were learning about. Product training in the appliance industry is not just about learning what the new finishes and features are, tech in the kitchen has completely changed the game!
Smart Home And Connected Kitchen Tech
Village Home Stores team is excited to be on board with all of these exciting ways you can add tech to your own home kitchen experience. Scan-to-cook, voice control timers and settings, and ingredient recognition. These are not “kitchen of the future” terms, they are available right now! Many of the appliance models we trained on from Maytag, KitchenAid, and Whirlpool have “connected” features. Whirlpool has launched an entire line of connected appliance products and they had a huge kitchen setup installed for our team to explore and train with.
I was really excited to train on and operate all of the new Whirlpool Smart Appliances. We learned so many ways they can help simplify our lives
-Tammy Clark, Appliance Expert at Village Home Stores
Getting this hands-on training with models we don’t typically get to see and use is a priceless opportunity for our team. Connected appliances are new to everyone so we are just as intrigued and curious as you! The apps and screens on the appliances are all very easy to use and give you options for how you are guided to use them. You can even favorite recipes and settings so that your appliances can adapt to you personally and help to simplify your life.
Hands-On Appliance Training
Resident Chef for Whirlpool brands Ann Nolan trained us on the chrome-infused griddles found on our KitchenAid commercial-style cooking products. We learned about the many benefits of this even-heat griddle including how easy it is to clean. There is no “seasoning” to worry about and we saw first hand that the non-porous surface cleans up very easily! Have a chrome-infused griddle from us? Check out this quick video Chef Ann made showing you the steps to clean it up easily.
Wall Ovens Guaranteed to “FIT”
Our team trained heavily on freestanding ranges and wall ovens beginning with a refresh of the FIT System Install Guarantee. Did you know that with the FIT system you can replace your existing 27″ or 30″ wide wall ovens and Whirlpool guarantees it will fit in your existing opening!? That is some valuable piece of mind when shopping. We had a chance to install a wall oven using the versatile FIT brackets and trim kit just to try it out!
Ice, Ice, Baby!
My favorite part of training was the undercounter icemaker. It was cool to see the difference between ice from that versus an ice dispenser in a refrigerator. Also, the pizza was awesome.
-Seth Owen, Appliance Expert at Village Home Stores
The pizza Seth is referencing was our off-site event for the evening. The Whirlpool Corporation took us on a Chicago Pizza Tour and it was an absolute dream! If you are looking for a fun and unusual way to see the city, (and if you can throw down on at least 2 lbs. of pizza in a few hours), we highly recommend it! But back to that icemaker Seth was talking about. Who wouldn’t love restaurant quality ice in your own home? Doesn’t that sound amazing? Ice is the only element you can add to something that elevates the experience without altering the flavor! They showed us what a different Clear Ice can make! Press play below to see this fun exercise we did comparing Clear Ice to regular ice from the freezer:
The KitchenAid Clear Ice in these undercounter models produce the most preferred ice in the industry! These icemakers are available in 15″ and 18″ wide models and they come backed by a 2 year warranty. They can be ordered panel-ready to give a built-in look for your kitchen design and the articulating door hinge allows it to be installed flush with the cabinetry and not stick out. We had some extensive cooktop training on both gas and induction cooktops which led to a very important training topic: ventilation!
Are you a serious home chef? Have you ever burned something in the kitchen? If you answered yes to either of those questions, you know how important kitchen ventilation is. Proper ventilation can help you filter heat, odor, grease, and smoke from your cooking space. A great new feature just launched is the Auto Turn On option on some vent hoods. This allows you to take the guesswork out of when to use your hood because it will just turn on when needed. We were blown away by this demo we experienced showcasing ventalation options from the KitchenAid Commercial line. Press play below to see some boosted vent power:
That is a 20 lb. cabinet door and just a 600CFM hood!!! Not even the most powerful hood we have available. Have questions about how much CFM power you need? Our team will work with you to pair your cook surface’s BTU’s and consider the location and your cooking habits when helping you select the right ventilation investment for your kitchen. A few months ago we met Chef Ann Nolan in Nashville and she was showcasing a brand new product on the EXPO floor of that show. Last week we were able to dive into more detailed training for it.
KitchenAid SmartOven+ with Powered Attachments
The KitchenAid SmartOven+ with Powered Attachments is one of the most exciting new appliance products we have seen in years! This wall oven can be used for standard baking and convection baking… but plug one of these powered attachments in and you have the ability to crisp, steam, and even grill in your wall oven! If you love the cooking process this wall oven will take your time in the kitchen to a whole new level. Imagine steaming an entire meal in a single pan, or making 3 racks or ribs any time of the year!?! There are even pre-programmed recipes in the wall oven to encourage you to experiment with your new attachments and they guide you through the entire process. You can even set a “flip” reminder for your burgers! You can read more about the SmartOven+ and see Chef Ann grilling with it here in a past blog post.
One thing we learned last week that really stuck with us about this wall oven product is the inspiration for it. The KitchenAid stand mixer is iconic. Not just within the Whirlpool brands of products, but in kitchens across the globe. What makes the stand mixer successful and has kept it relevant all of these years is the ability to add new and exciting attachments to any mixer base. The front port of a stand mixer (see above) can transform to suit so many tasks. That same concept was what drove the design of the port for the powered attachments of this SmartOven+ unit. The base “plugs” into the back of the wall oven and you stack whatever attachment you are using on top. A gravity-close cover seals the opening when an attachment isn’t in use.
Another exciting thing about this product is that KitchenAid included Chef Ann in the conversation while developing this product! She was able to make design notes and suggestions (like the sloped back wall of the grill pan and baking stone for utensil use) and she even developed the recipes programmed into the unit! Do you love being the first in your family or neighborhood to have fun and exiting new things but worry they will become outdated? Don’t worry here! Any powered attachment KitchenAid launches moving forward will work with this wall oven unit. And yes, there are others in the works!
The entire facility at World of Whirlpool was absolutely incredible. Both days we were treated to a chefs tasting 3 course lunch all prepared in the test kitchens on site. There were so many beautiful displays and believe it or not, we didn’t even see everything there even after two days of training! We don’t want to share every single detail from our trip because we will be unpacking some of these things in more detail on upcoming episodes of the Village Home Show.
Our team also trained on Maytag products, all brands of dishwashers, refrigeration, baking drawers, the new low-profile microwaves, laundry products and more! See and learn more about the low-profile microwave hoods here in a past blog post. Tammy even got to snap a selfie with the Maytag Man!
We trained on Whirlpool and Maytag laundry products and even saw the single unit Smart All-In-One Washer/Dryer from Whirlpool! This slim, ventless unit can be installed almost anywhere! Think how amazing it would be to wash a load right in your master closet! Learn more and shop this model here at villagehomestores.com
The building where World of Whirlpool us located is a landmark in itself! The Reid Murdoch Building is a historic and important building in the river-facing skyline of Downtown Chicago. We got a tour of the top clocktower one sunny afternoon and the views were amazing! It was such a busy and informative training trip but we had such a great group to train with! It is always so much fun to meet teams from stores just like ours who value the customer experience and seek to provide the best service and products for their neighbors.
The training and hospitality we were given from the Whirlpool Corporation was top-notch. We can’t thank them enough for including our store in this training opportunity. It is our honor to continue to earn our title of the Quad Cities Regional experts on appliances. If you are shopping for appliances and are not quite sure what is right for you, reach out to our team! There are hundreds of products out there and we can help you narrow your options down to what is right for you and your budget.
