Aspen Homes- Fall Parade of Homes Upscale Modern Farmhouse Style

We love that twice a year we get to attend the Q.C.B.R. Parade of homes. Every Spring and Fall you have the chance to tour beautiful new homes built right here in the Quad Cities. Having our products in these homes is an honor. We wanted to share with you the beautiful “Ridgewood” home from the 2016 Fall Parade built by Aspen Homes, LLC in Bettendorf, IA.

The perimeter cabinetry for the main kitchen area is the “Prairie” door in a Hickory wood. Koch Classic’s gorgeous “Stone” stain has been applied and the natural variation of the Hickory woodtones is enhanced. This completed design is an amazing example of “warm gray” at its best. Not only are the grays themselves warm tones, the use of stain instead of a paint allows the woodgrain to come through. Woodgrains have a way of giving a natural warmth to a space and this kitchen is no exception. It is warm, inviting, and upscale.

For a unique two-toned island application the “Stone” stain is repeated on each end. An “X” end cap has been assembled and applied for a dramatic look. The stain is a perfect subtle contrast to the “Taupe” paint of the kitchen island. This island design is truly unique and eye-catching. An overhang on the back of the island includes plenty of space for counter-height bar stool seating.

Modern farmhouse kitchen ideas. | VillageHomeStores.comBlending a variety of natural textures and materials helps to suggest the farmhouse style. Adding upscale details like polished stone counters, gold metals, and the use of clean lines and edges take that style to a more refined and classic level.  The “Calcutta Gold” Quartz countertops give the look of a natural marble material, but once installed have all the qualities of an Engineered Quartz: no maintenance at all! We absolutely love the great room light selected from Uttermost that includes gold finishes and leather bands. Great designs are well balanced and thought out. The team at Aspen Homes works closely with our designers here in the showroom to select the perfect palette for every area of your space.  When you have a Great Room setting, every detail selected matters. Selecting a smaller version of this leather Great Room light would have looked amazing above the Dining Room table. Instead, two unique lights were installed and make a statement that helped make this QCBR Parade Home stand out in a very memorable way! Modern farmhouse lighting. | VillageHomeStores.com

Two four-light mini chandeliers by Kichler are a blend of antiqued brass finish, Edison-style bulbs, and  playful exposed cords. With such a bold statement in the Dining Room, a more subtle selection was made above the kitchen island. foyerTwo seeded glass orb pendants from Kichler are the perfect choice above the island. Just around the corner from the Kitchen and Dining spaces is the front Foyer entry to the home.  This same orb shape is repeated but in a caged look including exposed Edison-style bulbs.  We are focusing on the lighting in this project feature because it is truly an important “layer” to your finishes spaces. Many times when building a new home, selecting the lighting can become an overwhelming task after so many other decisions have been made. That is why we have expert lighting designers to help guide you to help see the “big picture”. The bathrooms in this home also include some gorgeous lighting selections. In the Master Bathroom, the lighting becomes the main focal point of the space. Three-light vanity lights provide task lighting above each sink. The main showstopper is the classic and stylish three-light chandelier in the center of the Bath.

The Polished Nickel finish sparkles and shines. Frameless mirrors by Uttermost hang above each sink station. The faceted look of the mirror edges bounce light allover the Master Bathroom. Vanity cabinets from our Koch Classic line are in the “Prairie” doorstyle and painted in the “Fog” finish.  With so much shine and sparkle in the space, a subtle matte finish was applied to the Onyx Collection cultured marble vanity tops. The shared Bath (shown below) also keeps the same warm grays in the mix but brings the Kitchen cabinetry finish into the space. The “Stone” stain on the Hickory wood enhances the woodgrain and adds dimension to the color. Just look at one of the cabinet doors and you will see the beautiful variation of wood tones that are shown.

Again a mirror was selected void of any metal or wood frame. The “Graziano” oval mirrors also by Uttermost are a gorgeous choice. A long double-bowl vanity and a tall linen cabinet provide a lot of storage. These beautiful bath retreats are proof that warm grays have certainly replaced basic beiges in materials selected for new home construction! Trending: Kitchen and Bath Trends For 2016/2017

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of getting an invite to a Tastemakers Tea to meet, mingle and discuss trends throughout the Home Decor, Fashion, and Floral industries. These industries are closely knit when it comes to trend and color forecasting. Materials, color palettes, and details all pour over into the Kitchen and Bath industry.  Village Home Stores offers expert design and material selection for your new or remodeled home. We strive to be thought-leaders in out industry and always keep our eyes and ears on what is trending so that we can keep the perfect products available for our customers.

We understand that a kitchen design is far more permanent of a decision than purchasing a statement necklace or floral arrangements for your next event but each of these purchases reflect your personal taste. Your personal taste is such an important thing and every bit of your home should reflect it. So much of what we learned at this Tastemakers Tea translates directly into what we are seeing in the Kitchen & Bath industry! Here are 5 trends that we know you can put into play right now for your kitchen or bath design in 2016/2017:

Include Natural Items:

Natural items such as marble, granite, or woodgrain are not just limited to the “permanent” items in your kitchen.

Natural materials like stone and horn. | photo by Sarah Sunstrom Photography

Fall is the perfect time to begin to bring the outdoors in with your home accents. The canisters shown above are made from a gorgeous marble and that horn? it’s a bottle opener that you will never have to go searching for because it is cool enough to leave out layered as part of your look. As you prepare to entertain for these Autumn weeks ahead consider giving your kitchen a whole new look by swapping out that accessories layer in the space. If your kitchen is looking tired, clear everything off of the counters and shelves and challenge yourself to try a new look. You will be amazing at what a new rug or set of canisters can do to jump-start this process.

Mix Metals:

Nervous about this trend of mixing metals? Kitchen accessories and wall art are the perfect way to dip your toe in and test the waters.

Copper is a fantastic Fall color and it happens to look right “at home” in the kitchen. These vintage canisters from mabel. in Geneseo, IL would pair up quite nicely with the marble set shown above. Mixing metals with other textures can be fun. If you are ready to dive into a more exciting look in mixed metals, your designer at Village Home Stores is ready to help you balance and visualize the finished space. Take a look at this kitchen featured recently on the blog. Black Stainless Steel mixed with Stainless and Copper finishes. | VillageHomeStores.com

This completed look is polished and complete and includes 4 metals finishes in the design! KitchenAid’s Black Stainless and Standard Stainless Steel appliances are paired with Hammered Copper sinks and Oil -Rubbed Bronze faucets. See the complete album of photos from this project here on our Houzz.com page.

Go Gray:

Gray continues to become the new neutral choice all across the board. We were gracious to attend Dura Supreme’s Design Symposium again this year and many of the trends they spoke of last year were still atop the list for 2016/2017.  Last year we blogged on how Gray is here to stay. Take note that this “trend” is one worth your consideration for your kitchen or bath project because it is forecasted to stay on point for the next 5-8 years.Decorative end panel on the end of a kitchen peninsula. | VillageHomeStores.com

At Dura Supreme’s Design Symposium we were shown a beautiful new finish combination that really reflects the direction of the Modern Farmhouse look that is evolving into a very polished concept. The “Farmhouse” look is no longer limited to a barn door and an apron-front sink. The polished Modern Farmhouse look has evolved to include many of the trends we are touching on in this post including warmer grays, natural details, and mixed metals.

Dura Supreme Hickory Morel finish. | VillageHomeStores.com

Dura Supreme Hickory Morel finish available at Village Home Stores.

The “Morel” stain shown here on a Hickory door is a Gray/Brown Undertone finish that allows the natural characteristics of the woodgrain to show. With so many of our projects now including an accent island or cabinet in some area of the design, this wood finish is a great option. If you are considering including a “cool” or a “warm” painted finish to combine with your wood cabinetry, “Morel” pairs perfectly with each concept.

Turn Up The Heat:

So if Gray is the new neutral, what should I pair it with? Our short answer… all the things! An important point we want to make is that because we are seeing Gray used throughout the home, the “cold” and “drab” gray you are picturing is not the Gray you are after. Warmer tones of Gray are most commonly found in cabinet finishes, paint colors and home decor items. These warm Grays pair amazingly with woods ranging from light to dark.

Selecting warmer Grays and pairing with a rich woodtone also lends itself to including many of the other design trends we are suggesting. Including natural items (see our first suggestion in this post) is easy when a warm Gray is in the mix. Natural fibers and materials include a variety of colors in a piece. We snagged this great rug the day of the event from Katsch and it makes for a perfect kitchen sink rug. Natural rope is woven with Gray leather strips. It is unique, comfortable, and stylish. See more great examples of Gray used in beautiful spaces on this Pinterest Board we have curated.

Include Mirror & Glass:

Adding mirror to your space can be a real game-changer when you are looking for a whole new look. A quick change can be to swap out one piece of wall decor for a framed mirror. If your kitchen sink is not beneath a window add a mirror above your sink! This can also be a great way to play around with mixing metal finishes. Challenge yourself to choose a framed mirror different from your faucet or cabinet hardware and repeat this new metal finish someplace else in the space. We carry many framed mirror options in a variety of styles.

Swap out some artwork for a mirror in your kitchen or bath.

Swap out some artwork for a mirror in your kitchen or bath.

At the Tastemakers event we saw antique mirrors used as trays and clear glass accessories were proven to be versatile pieces you can use all year round. We recently blogged about a kitchen that included mirror inserts in place of glass and it bounced light and beautiful countryside views all around the space. A creative surface to play around with mirror is in your kitchen or bathroom tile. Stop by our showroom to see some of the many fun options we have that include mirrored accents in a variety of colors and styles.

If you are wanting to start completely fresh and create a space in your home on trend and complimentary of your own personal style we want to help make that happen! Geneseo, IL- 5 Design Upgrades For Your Kitchen

This beautiful Geneseo, IL remodel has a lot to offer in terms of style and impact. As we take a look around we want to share with you 5 great design upgrades included in this tour that helped take this finished space to the next level. Perhaps one of these details might be right for your own kitchen remodel project.
Kitchen before and after. | VillageHomeStores.com

White painted cabinetry from our Dura Supreme line is paired with “Silver Cloud” granite tops. The cabinetry is from Dura Supreme’s  Bria series of construction. This is a full-access or a “frameless” series of cabinetry. The painted white cabinetry is such a bright and updated change from the original Oak kitchen. The ceramic tile from the original kitchen was able to stay in place because the new kitchen design worked with it.

#1: A Full-Height Backsplash

The first design detail that truly makes a big impact in this kitchen is the installation of a full-height backsplash instead of a tiled space. With a character stone like this “Silver Cloud” granite, a full-height splash gives the opportunity to really showcase the natural veining in the slab. Shifting the beautiful pattern up to a visible, vertical plane also gives a really high-end look.

#2: Mirrored Cabinets

The second design detail that you can include in your space is the use of mirror in place of textured glass in the upper cabinetry. This may even be an upgrade you can make in your existing cabinetry. At first glance, you may have thought these cabinets had glass in them. Take a closer look and you see reflections of the scenic views outside of the new kitchen. Including mirror in kitchens and bathrooms was an up-and-coming trend in 2015 and has been predicted to be a big trend in 2016 and beyond. The look is great but think about how clever this concept is. Nothing is visible behind the mirror! That frees up “display” type cabinets to be used for any and all categories of storage. China hutches, Master Bath linen cabinets, the list goes on of great locations that can benefit by including mirror inserts.

#3: Designate a Drop Zone

The original kitchen footprint has been extended slightly into the casual dining area. A double wall oven from KitchenAid® has been installed for ease of use on the customer’s back. Now loading and unloading items is easy and the tall cabinet includes storage above and below the wall ovens. The double ovens are also perfect for preparing large meals during Holidays and special events. The end of this tall section of cabinetry is capped off with a tall angled end cabinet pantry. With shelving and outlets within this cabinet it is now the perfect space for a drop zone cabinet. Hidden out of sight is a charging station, calendars, mail and all kinds of items that would normally clutter up a countertop.

#4: Upgrade A Busy Appliance

If you don’t drink coffee, why buy a french press? If you don’t bake or use your oven often, maybe pass on convection features. Our point is that you should choose areas of your kitchen to upgrade that you can continue to thank yourself for over and over. A great example is upgrading your cooktop to induction if you cook often and want the best results. This may look like a standard electric cooktop but it is actually an Induction cooktop from KitchenAid®. Induction works using electromagnetic technology. It heats the cooking vessel instead of the surface. This allows you the immediate temperature control of a gas cooktop but in a smooth electric look. The Performance Boost feature allows you to exceed the maximum heat-level setting for up to 10 minutes, perfect for rapid boiling.

#5 Upgrade Access

The Dura Supreme’s Bria series a frameless construction is inspired by European Cabinetry. This allows you full access to the cabinet box. No matter what cabinet line or construction your design includes, you always have the option to place drawered cabinets where doors and slideouts can also be located. Even though the footprint of this island remained the same that upgrade was made with the new island cabinetry.before after island

Now it is easy to access pots and pans and all kinds of added items within the drawers. Cabinet hardware was carefully selected to match the scale of the drawers the handles were placed on. The back of the kitchen island was also upgraded from smooth panels to custom wainscot panels. This upgrade makes a world of a difference in the finished look especially in a great room setting where the island back is highly visible.

This new space is now bright, stylish, and makes a big impact because of the upgrades included. The full-height granite backsplash is breathtaking and including mirrors in the upper cabinets is a gorgeous look. Extending the cabinetry to include wall ovens and a pantry/drop zone allowed an easier oven experience and the new cooking zone has an incredible Induction cooktop. Specialty cabinet inserts were also included and an appliance garage in the kitchen corner keeps the counter from small appliance clutter. There is so much to love about this space.
