Moline, IL- Master Bath Remodel Removes Jacuzzi, Adds Storage Bench

We are not just beautiful kitchen remodels. Since the launch of our Full Project Management Program, we have gained quite the reputation for becoming a reliable, time-efficient, and customer-focused choice in the Quad Cities region for full bathroom remodels as well! This Moline, IL Master Bathroom is our featured project this week because it includes many items that top wishlists of all our bath remodel customers. Take a look at this elegant Master Bathroom:Custom tiled shower and a double bowl vanity in a Moline, IL bathroom remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

Of course a lot of counter space and two sinks are a priority in any Master Bathroom design. This Moline bath had a generous amount of wall space available for the vanity area. Our designer from Village Home Stores included as much drawer storage as possible from our Dura Supreme line of cabinetry. The Full-Overlay Craftsman door was selected in a rich Cherry wood and “Peppercorn” finish. What does Full-Overlay mean? Take a look at the image below and notice the small gaps between the doors and drawers:Cherry Peppercorn double vanity cabinetry by Dura Supreme in a Moline, IL bathroom remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

Traditional overlay would leave gaps about 2-3 times larger that what you see here. In a Full Overlay style (like shown), those gaps are minimal. This Gives your doors and drawers more space to spread across the faceframe of the cabinet openings behind them. Full overlay styles also help to hide the seams of cabinets when you install them in a long row like we have done here. It is hard to tell where each individual cabinet begins and ends. One jaw-dropping material choice in this Master Bath is the Cambra Quartz design selection. “Ellesmere” is a rich and sparkling blend of so many colors and it looks right at home in this Master Suite. Cambria Ellesmere quartz in a Moline, IL bathroom remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

In fact Ellesmere has some of the same colors the original bathroom had. Rich gold metallics and vibrant earthtones. On the subject of the original bathroom design, that brings us back to that customer wishlist. In the past few years we have removed so many large Jacuzzi tubs from Master Bathrooms. Clients found that this trend as not as practical for their lifestyle. Instead we are often asked to present a solution that borrows that space for something else. Sometimes this is a closet, a smaller tub with more room for a shower, or even a storage bench.

Because 9 times out of 10 these giant soaking tubs were installed beneath a large window area, bench seating really does look perfect there. In this bathroom we created a space matching the same Cherry “Peppercorn” cabinetry and ordered a wood top to match. A custom cushion is already on order for this bench. Yes it looks cool but look at all those drawers! With two walk-in closets already in the room, these drawers can be used for linen storage or toiletries. Cherry bench cabinetry with wood top by Dura Supreme in a Moline, IL bathroom remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

Above the original tub are there was a hanging crystal chandelier. The new light fixture included in the Master Bath is an updated take on a traditional chandelier. This orb light by Feiss takes a modern light style and adds sparkle on the interior of the polished nickel metal. We have installed this same light this year into bedrooms, foyers, and even above kitchen islands. Come see sparkle it in person because we have two hanging above our Appliance Sales desk as well in the showroom!Feiss sparkle orb light in a Moline, IL bathroom remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

The shower area also saw many updates to give a more bright and open look. You don’t need a gigantic amount of space to include a lot of features into a custom tiled shower. This 3-wall alcove is proof of that. Take a peek at the before and after images below:Before and after of a custom tiled shower in a Moline, IL bathroom remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

Dual shower heads and now tiled all the way to the ceiling, this tiled shower looks great! A custom glass shower door includes a fixed panel of glass on the right and a hinged entry door on the left. Dated polished brass fixtures were replaced with bright polished chrome for the shower and faucet finishes. Double shower in a Moline, IL bathroom remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

A short step up and into the tiled shower is trimmed off nicely with metallic strips at the edges. The Phenix Ravello series of tile was used throughout the bathroom. A 13″ x 13″ “Champagne” tile was installed as the main bathroom floor and on the shower walls. A smaller 2″x 2″ “Pearl” tile was used as the shower base. Tiled shower entry with glass door in a Moline, IL bathroom remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

A decorative row of tile was selected to tie together the wall tile and the Cambria counters on the nearby vanity. This geometric tile from Glazzio’s Hexagon series is a perfect pairing! The Tranquil colors bring in the wall and floor tile and also compliment the cabinet and quartz colors! Tiled shower with a glass corner shelf in a Moline, IL bathroom remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

Of course the best part about creating a custom tiled shower with our clients is customizing it with them! Adding niches, benches, and shelves are a great way to add practical elements that can look great too! This shower showcases a glass corner shelf added up within reach of the shower user. This can be a great shelf for toiletries or razors. We also added a corner bench/footrest below that. Tiled shower with a corner footrest shelf in a Moline, IL bathroom remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villaehomestores.com

Perfect for more toiletries or resting a leg while shaving. We even added a strip of accent tile to the front face of the shelf for another little custom detail. Great designs really are made with detail choices like that. Beautiful spaces are really created by layers of details. Who would want a basic white lightswitch to distract from all of these other stunning choices? Our Adorne series by legrand is far from basic! This series of wall switches and outlets offer an updated look and so many color combination possibilities! Steve’s Mirror & Glass created the shower door entry as well as the the custom mirror that hangs above the vanity. They also provided beveled mirror outlet covers to surround the Adorne outlets on the vanity mirror. A great customized look! Custom mirror and outlet cover by Steves Mirror and Glass in a Moline, IL bathroom remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

Muscatine, Iowa- Kitchen Remodel With Coastal Colors and Some Sparkle

At Village Home Stores we have the great privilege of transforming spaces in our customer’s homes. These aren’t just any spaces, kitchens truly are the hub of all activity in a home. Remodel stories that begin after years of use are some of our favorites. Nothing makes you appreciate the transformation of a room more than truly living and experiencing the before and after. While that can be hard to translate to a blog post, we do think you can get a pretty great idea of this kitchen before and after just from the images. Muscatine Iowa before and after kitchen remode. Design, materials, and full project management from Village Home Stores. Koch Express cabinetry and Cambria quartz featured. | villagehomestores.com

This Muscatine, Iowa kitchen remodel is a wonderful example of how you can totally transform the look and function of a space without removing a wall or re-locating major appliances. Just look at the difference in the room just from the material choices! Dark, slab-style cabinetry has been replaced with a bright painted white. Added lighting helps to enhance these selections and make this new space bright both day and night.Muscatine Iowa kitchen with design, materials, and full project management from Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

Painted cabinetry from our Koch Express line in the “Prairie” door with an applied molding detail. This doorstyle takes the look from a Transitonal flat-panel door to a more “Cottage” or “Coastal” style. That Coastal vibe is achieved with the material selections in colors and even textures. Alterna Luxury Vinyl Tile in a 16″ x 16″ tile and the “Glacier” color create a durable and comfortable flooring choice for the new kitchen. While the floors give a white sandy look, the mosaic backsplash makes you wish you were on the beach collecting seaglass.

This mosaic is from the “Academia” series by Glazzio and the color is “Aviaton Mint”. It is a beautiful combination of varied textures and tones of soft green glass and even mirror tiles mixed in. You would honestly think that the tile was made just for this countertop choice too! Cambria Quartz in the “Montgomery” design is the perfect compliment to the colors in the tile. An ogee edge profile has been applied. Using a decorative edge in a galley kitchen design like this is a great way to make a small design choice that makes a big impact once installed.
Cambria Montgomery quartz in an Ogee edge installed by Village Home Stores in a Muscatine, Iowa home. | VillageHomeStores.com

This ogee edge is showcased best on the exposed end at the kitchen entrance. That wall opposite the sink is where we find an appliance layout that really recreates the entire wall. The original kitchen design had cabinetry and shelves with no hood but a range below. There was just enough landing space to be claimed by a countertop microwave in the original kitchen:

The new kitchen design makes the most of the available space with landing space now on both sides of the range and an installed microwave hood above. The use of a microwave hood here not only frees up countertop space, it also provides needed ventilation for the cooktop.  Again, notice the ogee edge in the next image. Such a beautiful detail that lets the sparkle and colors of the Cambria materials be showcased.

Another great way to keep this new kitchen feeling bright and light is the use of mirror in place of glass in some of the cabinet doors. Two mirrored panels here reflect the window light right across the kitchen and two more narrow panels flank the kitchen sink area on the wall opposite it. Of course our Diode LED undercabinet lighting is a low-profile, low-voltage way of adding light to any project with us.

Reflected in the mirrors is the ceiling centerpiece of the new kitchen, a stunning semi- flushmount drum fixture by Kichler. This fabric drum shade is haloed by a cage of detail and from Kichler’s “Jardine” series. Crystals and botanical-inspired metal designs truly steal the attention of any arriving guest.

Talk about another material match! Check out how perfectly the new custom window treatments look when paired with this light! This is exactly why it can be so important to work with a one-stop-shop like Village Home Stores. Your entire project vision can be seen by a team of experts, each from their own department to help you select the perfect items for your budget and the overall vision of the space. Two fabric roman shades were installed in the new kitchen. Each using the “Jazz Blue/Cream” fabric and the innovative ONEcontrol cordless system from our Horizon Window Fashions line.

You can find them all here on our award-winning houzz page. A new feature to this kitchen is probably one of the favorites for the homeowner… a dishwasher! Creating enough space on the sink wall to include a full-sized dishwasher is a game-changer for function in the new design.

Davenport IA- Basement Bathroom Gets the 5 Star Treatment

Just beyond the bedroom door of the Home Bar we shared in the last post, is a bedroom suite with a stunning new bathroom. This space immediately fools you into believing you have just checked into a 5-star Spa. A warm-gray palette and a jaw-dropping lighting statement make this one of our favorite projects of 2017! We think after you take a look around you will agree.

The most remarkable elements in this finished design are the lighted mirrors. These back-lit mirrors were an idea our client had hoped we could ingrate into the design. Custom mirrors mounted with our Diode LED lighting behind them turns out to be a match made in heaven!
backlighting-mirror

Behind the custom mirrors from Steve’s Mirror and Glass we mounted to LED tape to back-light them. This Diode tape is low-voltage AND low-profile. That makes it perfect for unique custom projects like this. This same back-lighting look can be used in any area of your home. Imagine an entryway mirror, artwork, or a long mirror in a walk-in closet space. Press play below to peek behind the mirrors:

Proof that if you have an idea for your dream space… just ask! We have the resources to try our very best to make it happen. Clear communication of your budget and timeline is always key. We want to keep you on track AND on budget.

The cabinetry in this bathroom was ordered with what is called “five-piece drawer fronts” to give each drawer the added detail of rails and stiles. Of course what you can’t see in these photos are other features like dovetailed drawerboxes, self-closing drawers, and soft-close doors. The area shown below is installed at a lowered height and now is fit for a seated makeup vanity area.

Bathrooms can be such a unique canvas for a stylish space. There are so many surfaces and fixtures that can add to an overall finished design. The Kohler “Symbol” faucets are absolutely gorgeous in this bathroom. They are mounted aside a Demi-Lav sink perfectly named “Wading Pool”.

The vanity areas have Cambria quartz counters in the “Berwyn” design and standard Eased edge profile. Quartz is a fantastic choice for a bathroom counter because it is stylish and extremely durable. Heat from hair appliances and makeup solutions and removers are no threat to the sparkling surface. Read more about the quartz investment in this previous post about our recent trip to Cambria.

Berwyn includes so many colors that are right on target for trends in the Kitchen & Bath industry. It pairs so well with bright whites and nearly all varieties of grays. A large walk-in tiled shower is always at the top of many bathroom wishlists. Take a look at the finished shower in this bathroom!

Because of the layout, a shower door isn’t needed. In fact there is even a turn in the shape to offer the user privacy. Right at the entry is a towel bar that warms your towel as you shower. The Jeeves E curved towel warmer is the perfect treat-yourself detail for a shower like this.

8″ x 32″ woodlook tile from the Woodland series in “Rectified Maple” is paired with accents of a Pebble mosaic tile in the Fiji Cream color. The tile from Sunderland Brothers looks perfectly on-trend and unique while still remaining neutral. Woodgrain tile gives you a unique look in an easy-toclean surface.

That same accent pebbled tile is used as the shower floor. By using this textured pebble tile as the shower floor, you are treated to a foot massage every time you use it!  Plus if the warm towel waiting for you isn’t enough pampering, just turn on the heated floors for you once you exit the shower.

It is no mystery why we are so in love with how this bathroom turned out. It checks all the right boxes: stylish, inviting, unique… oh and did we mention the client was just the bee’s knees?!?!  We love it when a customer is just as enthusiastic about the process and the project as we are. She was wonderful to work with on the whole project. This Lower Level remodel project includes this bath, a basement bar area, craft room and home gym space. Dura Supreme 2017/2018 Product Training and Trend Forecast

Village Home Stores has worked hard over the years to curate a list of product lines that offer our customers the very best value for their dollar. We believe strongly in building that list to include as much product made in the USA as possible. With every brand we offer, comes the responsibility to stay up-to-date with product knowledge and an awareness of anything new in the line. Therese is the newest member of the Kitchen & Bath Design team at Village. She just returned from a week-long training session with Dura Supreme and we wanted to share a bit of what she learned there.14We know that you are probably not as interested in the product knowedge and training Therese received as you are to hear what is new and trending in the industry (don’t worry we will get there). Here is a quick recap of some of the highlights from her training. Most importantly, Dura Supreme is truly customized line of cabinetry! If you or your designer can dream it up, chances are Dura can build it just for you! duracollage
Each and every order that comes through the facilities in Howard Lake Minnesota is built to suit that custom order. Nothing is stocked or pre-made. That was the main element that stuck with Therese as she toured the Dura Supreme factory buildings.

“I didn’t realize until seeing it in person just how hands-on a cabinet order is to Dura Supreme. The entire cabinet order I am sending for my clients is handled step-by-step through the process. It is great to know that when my clients invest in Dura Supreme Cabinetry the product will be expertly crafted just for them.”

Having the ability to modify and customize cabinetry within a design gives our designers the freedom to truly find the best working design solution for our clients using every bit of space possible. A great design must function well… but you want it to look great too! Dura Supreme also gives our designers an almost limitless catalog of finishes to use for the perfect look. 3

Wood stains, laminated foils, painted finishes, plus weathered and custom patina options allow us to offer something for any taste. The “Personal Paint Match Program” from Dura Supreme allow you to use any Sherwin Williams paint color and apply it as a custom paint color for your cabinetry.dura-supreme-jasper

In addition to the extensive product training during the week, designers from across the country were presented with a 2018 trend forecast. We will be unpacking some of these trends in more detail as we head into 2018 but wanted to give you a general list of what 2018 is predicted to bring to the Kitchen & Bath Industry.

Kitchen & Bath Trends For 2018:

The trend forecast for 2018 was presented by industry expert Karen Wistrom. Karen is Vice President of Marketing at Dura Supreme and also sits on the National Color Board. Her expertise in the field of trend forecasting and industry news is a wealth of knowledge. This is why Dura has always been at the very frontlines of any upcoming trend. When grays were predicted to become big, Dura was at the ready with years of research and development into the best gray options to offer us.inset-white-vanity

The Midwest Approach:

Our market is still very interested in the clean and versatile look of a white, flat-panel kitchen. But some trends can be put into play without a large risk attached. For instance, in the Midwest we are truly on board with two-toned designs. Our customers love the look of a second finish on an island or built-in hutch area. Not every trend will impact a region the same. For example, while we may have some clients from time to time that fit into the “Contemporary” style category, that doesn’t represent our average client’s personal style. The sleek look of our Dura Surpeme front desk cabinetry and waterfalling counters (shown below) better represents much of what the West Coast markets are used to seeing. Not as common for us to be installing in the extended Quad Cities Region. But the key is we ave it available! We have something for any taste!waterfall_edge

What’s Trending Now?

If you follow us here on our blog, or browse any websites or magazines at the checkout line then you have a pretty good handle on what is trending right now. Many times it can be hard to pin down a specific part of a space that you love. You can save 4 kitchen images for instance, to your own Houzz ideabook but perhaps its just the lighting in each that you really love. Here are some of the main trends we are seeing throughout the Kitchen & Bath industry right now:

  • High Contrast! More two-toned designs with more contrast from finish-to-finish. Think a rich Navy Blue island with a White painted kitchen perimeter.
  • Complete Color Neutral Designs and White-on-White spaces! Many designs have taken to a serene and minimal approach to finishing a space. Subtle palettes or Grays, Taupes and Beiges can create the perfect look. Classic looks of White-on-White continue to be a great look for Kitchens and Bathrooms.  Keep in mind these color neutral designs don’t have to be void of a pop of color! They actually make for an even better showcase for colorful accents.
  • Playing With Scale and Numbers! A great example of this is the shift away from the “rule of threes” approach to lighting above a kitchen island. In place of three small pendants, consider two larger fixtures. Or what about one large statement light above an island?two-lights

So What’s Trending Next?

The trends predicted to make a big impact in 2018 are many that we have been “dipping our toe in” so-to-speak for awhile. Many of the trends we have already began to use for clients and showcase in our Geneseo Showroom. Here is what you can expect to see next:

  • Black Finishes! We have began to see the shift from black accents like an island, or crown molding and instead seeing larger amounts or a dark, rich black painted finish. In 2017 we had a handful of completed kitchens that were 80-100% black painted cabinets.
  • Brass! Gold continues to stay on trend but a softer brushed look is starting to take the lead with this trend. Brushed brass, and warm champagne bronze finishes will continue to be popular. We see this trend for our Midwest market to be used in accessories hardware, and lighting. Plus we are very excited for Whirlpool® to launch the new Sunset Bronze appliance finish in 2018!
  • Oak! Yeah. For real! Oak is making a comeback! That may come as more of a shock for other markets because here in the Midwest, we never really saw a complete step back from Oak finishes in the home. In 2018 you will begin to see more lifestyle blogs and magazines showcasing the Oak woodgrain again! Keep an eye out for cerused or a pickled/limed look on Oak woods.
  • Mirrors! This is another trend that has been very easy to get our clients on board with. Including mirrors in your finished designs help to make a space seem larger and bounce light aroudn to help it seem brighter. What we love for cabinet design is the use of mirror instead of glass for doors. This gives a great look but no pressure to build a “display” or items behind it.mirror-cabinet

The Big Color For 2018…Green!

While we will continue to see rich, deep blue colors in the upcoming years, Green will lobby for our attention too! From rich, Emerald jewel-tones to bright, vibrant punches of color. Green will become a staple of both permanent finishes and home accents in the upcoming years. We have already began to see completed Kitchens and Bathrooms from our colleagues using rich, green cabinetry as well as muted, dusty green tones that pair well with grays.  green-accent

We will be showcasing more of these trends in detail on the blog over the next few months. Learn more about Dura Supreme and browse their finish options here on their website. Aspen Homes- Fall Parade of Homes Upscale Modern Farmhouse Style

We love that twice a year we get to attend the Q.C.B.R. Parade of homes. Every Spring and Fall you have the chance to tour beautiful new homes built right here in the Quad Cities. Having our products in these homes is an honor. We wanted to share with you the beautiful “Ridgewood” home from the 2016 Fall Parade built by Aspen Homes, LLC in Bettendorf, IA.

The perimeter cabinetry for the main kitchen area is the “Prairie” door in a Hickory wood. Koch Classic’s gorgeous “Stone” stain has been applied and the natural variation of the Hickory woodtones is enhanced. This completed design is an amazing example of “warm gray” at its best. Not only are the grays themselves warm tones, the use of stain instead of a paint allows the woodgrain to come through. Woodgrains have a way of giving a natural warmth to a space and this kitchen is no exception. It is warm, inviting, and upscale.

For a unique two-toned island application the “Stone” stain is repeated on each end. An “X” end cap has been assembled and applied for a dramatic look. The stain is a perfect subtle contrast to the “Taupe” paint of the kitchen island. This island design is truly unique and eye-catching. An overhang on the back of the island includes plenty of space for counter-height bar stool seating.

Modern farmhouse kitchen ideas. | VillageHomeStores.comBlending a variety of natural textures and materials helps to suggest the farmhouse style. Adding upscale details like polished stone counters, gold metals, and the use of clean lines and edges take that style to a more refined and classic level.  The “Calcutta Gold” Quartz countertops give the look of a natural marble material, but once installed have all the qualities of an Engineered Quartz: no maintenance at all! We absolutely love the great room light selected from Uttermost that includes gold finishes and leather bands. Great designs are well balanced and thought out. The team at Aspen Homes works closely with our designers here in the showroom to select the perfect palette for every area of your space.  When you have a Great Room setting, every detail selected matters. Selecting a smaller version of this leather Great Room light would have looked amazing above the Dining Room table. Instead, two unique lights were installed and make a statement that helped make this QCBR Parade Home stand out in a very memorable way! Modern farmhouse lighting. | VillageHomeStores.com

Two four-light mini chandeliers by Kichler are a blend of antiqued brass finish, Edison-style bulbs, and  playful exposed cords. With such a bold statement in the Dining Room, a more subtle selection was made above the kitchen island. foyerTwo seeded glass orb pendants from Kichler are the perfect choice above the island. Just around the corner from the Kitchen and Dining spaces is the front Foyer entry to the home.  This same orb shape is repeated but in a caged look including exposed Edison-style bulbs.  We are focusing on the lighting in this project feature because it is truly an important “layer” to your finishes spaces. Many times when building a new home, selecting the lighting can become an overwhelming task after so many other decisions have been made. That is why we have expert lighting designers to help guide you to help see the “big picture”. The bathrooms in this home also include some gorgeous lighting selections. In the Master Bathroom, the lighting becomes the main focal point of the space. Three-light vanity lights provide task lighting above each sink. The main showstopper is the classic and stylish three-light chandelier in the center of the Bath.

The Polished Nickel finish sparkles and shines. Frameless mirrors by Uttermost hang above each sink station. The faceted look of the mirror edges bounce light allover the Master Bathroom. Vanity cabinets from our Koch Classic line are in the “Prairie” doorstyle and painted in the “Fog” finish.  With so much shine and sparkle in the space, a subtle matte finish was applied to the Onyx Collection cultured marble vanity tops. The shared Bath (shown below) also keeps the same warm grays in the mix but brings the Kitchen cabinetry finish into the space. The “Stone” stain on the Hickory wood enhances the woodgrain and adds dimension to the color. Just look at one of the cabinet doors and you will see the beautiful variation of wood tones that are shown.

Gray stained cabinet bathroom ideas. | VillageHomeStores.comThe same matte finish Onyx Collection top in solid “White” is installed in the Bathroom. Again a mirror was selected void of any metal or wood frame. The “Graziano” oval mirrors also by Uttermost are a gorgeous choice. A long double-bowl vanity and a tall linen cabinet provide a lot of storage. These beautiful bath retreats are proof that warm grays have certainly replaced basic beiges in materials selected for new home construction!
