Moline, IL-Warm Finishes Make An Inviting Bath Remodeled Retreat

This Moline, IL Master Bathroom has been given an inviting new look from Village Home Stores. Warm finishes and a spacious layout make for a perfect retreat for the homeowners. Right away upon entering you are greeted with a statement tiled shower. A mosaic tile by Daltile in the “Crystal Shores” series and “Copper Coast” color gives the look of a piece of art framed in the custom shower.

Village Home Stores managed the complete project from start to finish with our Complete Project Management Process. All design, material selection, subcontractor estimates, scheduling, and day-to-day was handled by an expert team created just for this Moline, IL couple. This large bathroom has the space for a large custom shower, a corner shelf, toilet area, and double bowl vanity. Here is a peek at a color rendering used early on in the design and selection process.Full color rendering of Moline, IL bathroom remodeled by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

Presenting our customers with complete design concepts helps them to really see the finished space as realistically as possible before anything is even ordered. The bathroom cabinetry is from our Koch Classic line. The doorstyle is named “Seneca” and a Red Oak has been painted “Pearl” allowing the woodgrain of the oak to still show through as an added texture.

Instead of a vanity bowl on either end of the cabinetry, the two bowls are in the center of the top leaving a larger counter space on the ends. The cabinetry below cuts back to a shallower cabinet and countertop to help keep the room spacious (especially by the shower entry). A “knee wall” or half-wall has been installed to cap off the vanity area leaving the space above open with sight into the shower. A custom framed glass shower entry has been installed in an Oil Rubbed Bronze finish to compliment the shower fixtures and lighting.

Recess can lighting is installed throughout the new design and elongated wall sconces from our Hudson Valley line flank the vanity wall. Matching mirror molding was ordered with the wall cabinetry to match the painted oak finish. With the two bowls near eachother, a single custom mirror can be centered in the space and framed in with this mirror molding.

The tile selections and installation give life and warmth to the finished design. A small step threshold into the custom tiled shower takes you from the main floor tile in the “Cashmere” color to a darker “Tortoise” color. The shower floor is a blend of many colors in a 2″ x 2″ tile named “Cream Blend” all from our American Olean line.

The shower walls are a 9″ x 12″ tile from the Belmar series and the “Tortoise” color. A custom tiled niche is located right be the hand-held shower controls. You have many options for shelves and niches in a tiled shower. Be sure to discuss you needs with your tile expert at Village Home Stores so we can figure out the perfect size and location for your project.

Corner benches or footrests can be another fantastic addition to a tiled shower design. Female clients love the benefit of having a place to put a leg up while shaving. The corner bench can also work as another shelf if needed. See more examples of tiled showers here in this Houzz ideabook of examples.Custom tiled shower with corner bench in Moline, IL bathroom. | VillageHomeStores.com

Speaking of tile, this smiling guy deserves a shout out and a spot in this feature because, well just look at him! Plus he matches the tile so perfectly. The flooring in the bathroom is a 12″ x 12″ tile size and the tub surround area changes to a 9″ x 12″ tile.

Above the tub surround deck an accent area of tile has been installed to tie everything together. A row of the darker “Tortoise” tile is finished off with a row of deco band in the same mosaic used on the shower wall. A narrow frame tile with an ogee edge is used to finish off this look and as the “frame” in the shower. This “Questech” tile is 2″ x 12″ in size and in the “Antique Bronze” finish.

In the tub corner hangs a gorgeous orb chandelier light from our Maxim line. The light is stunning in person and the crystal details inside add a sparkling glow to the tub area. The pattern it creates on the ceiling is interesting as well!

Moline, IL- Clear The Table From Your Family Clutter

It is no news that we believe the kitchen is the “hub” of the home. For many busy families that translates to the “hub” of all clutter! Bookbags, luchboxes, mail, schoolwork, the dog leash, the sports equipment… you see where we are headed with this. This Moline family of 5 (plus pets) was ready  for a kitchen remodel. When their designer asked what they really wanted to see with a new layout, their response was this: some way to keep the kitchen table clear. Before we share that solution, let’s start the tour with the familiar kitchen areas. This L-shape sink section includes a very common and functional layout. A range and microwave hood on one end, turn the corner with a base lazy susan cabinet to a sink beneath a window and dishwasher beside it.
A Moline, IL kitchen remodeled completely from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

The original kitchen layout included a peninsula on this wall extending into the kitchen. The new layout opens up the space by eliminating that peninsula and making room for a large kitchen table. Koch cabinetry in the Seneca doorstyle is installed in a Birch wood and “Mocha” stain. Glass 3″ x 6″ subway-style tiles have been installed in a herringbone design for the kitchen backsplash.A Moline, IL kitchen remodel including Hanstone Quartz and glass subway tile. | VillageHomeStores.com

The tile is from our American Olean line in the Color Appeal series and “Plaza Taupe” color. No backsplash was installed with these tops so the glass tile backsplash had more room for a statement with the pattern. The refrigerator wall now includes so much amazing storage!
A Moline, IL kitchen remodeled completely from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

A tall pantry cabinet fit with sliding shelves and a refrigerator end panel surround the refrigerator for a great look. The section of cabinetry on this same wall creates a great work surface that also serves as a coffee station. The wall cabinetry above is staggered in height and depth to add interest to this wall. Soffits have been removed from this kitchen so that the new cabinetry can reach to the ceiling. To compliment the deeper center cabinet above, the large stack of drawers in the base cabinetry is pulled forward. A Moline, IL kitchen remodel including Hanstone Quartz in the Victorian Sands design. | VillageHomeStores.com

This gives the opportunity to add interest and a furniture-style look with an arched toespace on the drawer cabinet. The Quartz kitchen counters mimic the creative shape of these cabinets and follow the in-out-in detail with soft radius corners on this bump-out area.A Moline, IL kitchen remodel including Hanstone Quartz in the Victorian Sands design. | VillageHomeStores.com

Hanstone Quartz countertops in the Victorian Sands color are a stunning choice for this Moline, IL home. Victorian Sands is a wonderful blend of neutral colors. It is one of those successful colors over the years in that it works with so many wood tones and pairs with just about any tile or paint selections. A standard “Eased” edge profile  is a classic choice. But what about that whole new area designed to somehow solve the clutter table issue? With the mission to control family clutter in mind, our designer went to work to create a new kitchen layout including a whole new third section of cabinetry across from the original kitchen.
A Moline, IL kitchen remodel including custom locker area. | VillageHomeStores.com

What an amazing brand new custom drop-zone area fit with a bench seat and coathooks! A place for everything and everything in its place…and guess what?! The kitchen table (and even the kitchen countertops) are now all clear! By creating this designated “drop zone” area on the back wall of the kitchen, there is no excuse for anything to end up on the table at all. A bench seat built from functioning drawers is capped with a matching wood top. This offers a stylish surface for seating. Designing the drop zone into 4 sections helps to contain the clutter to each child’s area. Drop zones like this work best when located near the main entrance home for the users (i.e. back garage door entry).

What to Expect: Lighting a Whole New Home With Us

Prepare for the understatement of the century… “Building a home can be overwhelming because of all of the decisions to be made.” Our goal at Village Home Stores is to let you leave with an exceptional customer experience whether you are purchasing laundry soap or an entire home of products. We want the building process to be as simple as possible for our customers. You shouldn’t have to drive around and manage all of these decisions on your own. When building a home, we want you to be able to select as much product as you can from Village Home Stores. This is so we know the end result will look the best it can and so that the process isn’t stressful for you. Great finished projects look complete when one concept is in mind for the entire home.Unique Aged Brass lighting from the Quad Cities Region lighting experts Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

We put together an entire team of Village experts for our new construction customers. Your kitchen designer will have access to your lighting expert and flooring and so on. Communication is the key to a successful project. So where do you get started? Your first step is to set up an appointment with a lighting expert and bring the following to that appointment:

What Do I Bring To My Appointment?

  • Bring a copy of your home print or arrange to have your builder send a copy to our store before your appointment date.
  • Collect some examples of lighting that grabs your eye. These could be magazine clippings or ideas saved to your personal tablet. Take advantage of some of the great online resources for inspiration. Start a board on Pinterest or save images to an ideabook on Houzz. This helps our experts get an idea of what looks and spaces you are drawn to.
  • Bring an open mind. We know that sounds about as cheesy as can be but just like any other shopping you may do, there is so much out there. That Dining Room light you have had saved on Pinterest for three years may not be available now or within your budget. Our experts can help you find an option that does fit within these perimeters. Just keep an open mind to what is available.

fan_pinHaving that open mind will be helpful during the entire building phase. You may be pleasantly surprised when we can find an option that you may even love more than the original light you were hoping for. Collecting examples can be the most fun part of your building process. Many times just a single image of a finished space can help your team of experts at Village out tremendously. Shopping for lighting in catalogs can be difficult. The same light in a catalog will never have the impact it does when installed in a room. Take this ceiling fan on the right for example. When shown isolated on a white background you can tell it has great style and a sophisticated look but would it make a great statement in your room? There are thousands and thousands of fans we could have choose for this Hearth Room in Moline, IL. Seeing it installed you can see that the fan selected looks like it was truly made for the space it ended up in. Our team has the vision for your lighting concept as long as you give them the correct leads. Take a look below at the same fan installed with a beautiful beamed ceiling in the finished Hearth Room in Moline, ILCeiling fans for all budgets and styles. | VillageHomeStores.comIt is perfect for the overall look of the room. When we know the look you are after, we can help you get there. Searching for lighting to go above your kitchen island? Revisit the kitchen images you have been drawn to for your cabinet design and see if the lighting included is part of the look you love.

What Does a “Lighting Concept” Mean?

  • A cohesive look to your home lighting selections as you or a guest use the home.
  • Your lighting selections should compliment each other, not match. This is the role of our lighting experts. They will help you select the perfect scale, style, and application for the lighting you need and keep them all as part of the overall vision for the project.
  • Less work for you! Having our expert lighting team work for you to create this whole home lighting concept is one of the best reasons to work with Village Home Stores. You don’t have to hunt all over town or forage through the online jungle. Share with us your examples and we will prepare a concept for you.

How about we walk you through an example of a lighting concept? The examples we are showing you in this blog post may not be your own personal taste or budget, but it is a fantastic example of a complete lighting concept.bathroom_lighting

This is a home in Moline, IL built by Rodenburg Builders. The lighting for this new home was hand-picked just for this client and their specific taste. The three fixtures shown together above are all found within the same area of the home. Two kitchen island pendants hang within view of the Dinette area and a Wine Room within the kitchen has a clerestory window that peeks a view at the chandelier within. All unique fixtures yet they are not “matchy matchy” lights. Instead they compliment each other and are designated for specific locations and tasks.Crystorama "Carson" 4 light chandeliers above a kitchen island in a Moline, IL home. | VillageHomeStores.com

Stunning “Carson” 4 light chandelier pendants by Crystorama hang above the island (shown above) and give an open and airy look to the kitchen. Right within the kitchen is a Wine Room. This room is illuminated with an enchanting Artcraft “Bella Vista” chandelier (shown below). The light itself is breathtaking. Much liket the kitchen and entertaining spaces, the Master Bathroom is another excellent example of a calculated lighting plan that has been selected for a finished space that is truly “Pinterest-worthy.” On the main level of the home is a Master Suite that includes a large bath with multiple vanity areas and a walk-in closet. The “Aged Brass” finish on the lighting and plumbing fixtures glow in the spacious Master Bathroom. Here is the lighting concept for that space:master_bath_lighting

The “Kyle” ceiling fixtures, “Livingston” sconces, and “Lyon” closet pendants each have their own unique look but work so wonderful in the completed project. Moline Remodel: Details Make The Design

Moline, IL kitchen remodel by Village Home Stores

What is it about some projects that really help push them over the edge into that “magazine-cover” category? Many times is that added layer of details that take a great looking design and amplify it into gorgeous! In the case of this remodeled Moline kitchen, the details make the design!Moline remodel before and after by Village Home Stores

This Moline kitchen has been completely transformed. From dark and dated to bright and timeless. Dark oak cabinetry and golden laminate tops gave the original kitchen a very crowded feeling. An island located in the center of the kitchen was accessible from all sides but a large wood hood suspended above it seemed to crowd the space.kitchen designers by Village Home Stores

The newly remodeled Moline kitchen has not just been updated but now gives a more timeless traditional look. A similar footprint to to original kitchen but upgrades to function and styles throughout. Kitchen remodelers in Moline by Village Home StoresBrightening the kitchen materials and replacing the massive wood hood with a more subtle style keeps the new kitchen feeling open and airy. Removing the soffits above and allows the new cabinets to extend up to the ceiling. Remodelers of the Quad Cities by Village Home Stores

The cabinetry and counters are not all that were ready for a change, the kitchen appliances were very ready for an update. A brand new appliance package from KitchenAid was installed into this new Moline kitchen. Notice how the original wall oven didn’t even have a glass-front door to see inside of the unit? Appliances in Moline by Village Home Stores

What an upgrade they have made here!  A combination microwave and wall oven allow the convenience of a double oven when needed but also standard microwave features in the top unit.

Quad City tile by Village Home StoresA perfect pairing of Cambria’s “Windermere” quartz design with Koch’s painted “Pearl” finish and a “Umber” highlight. This bright finish gives the new kitchen an open and airy feeling from the original dark Oak cabinetry that was removed. Our Diode LED undercabinet lighting helps lighten the space as well. With a smooth wash of light that is dimmable and energy efficient, this system is the perfect task and ambient light in a kitchen.

What You Expect:

Let’s begin by showcasing the details you would expect in a Traditional kitchen like this from Village Home Stores. Elements like these are many times not included when working with a “Big Box” cabinet store but any professional Kitchen & Bath showroom should offer you these design details.Crown molding on hood by Village Home Stores

Crown molding is a key element in giving your kitchen a polished off look. In this case, a traditional crown bridges the gap from above the wall cabinets to the ceiling. Paying attention to scale and size is important here. Cabinet and ceiling height as well as other molding details in a home must be considered when selecting size. Varied depths in this kitchen make for an interesting look and the opportunity to continue the same crown but add interest to the detail. Notice how the same wood crown has been wrapped around the top of the new stainless hood for a look you wouldn’t expect to see.

Accent kitchen island by Village Home StoresAccent islands in a contrasting color have become more and more common in new kitchen designs. The “Mocha” finish on this island compliments the wood flooring and the highlight glaze that has been applied to the perimeter cabinetry.Baseboards by Village Home Stores

Baseboard molding wrapped around an island or end panel treatment can offer you and instantly polished look. The right installer is key when you are looking for a totally polished Traditional style kitchen. Your finished look will come to completion with that final layer of trim and moldings. Don’t forget that Village Home Stores offers full Project Management and can schedule a carpenter for your project. If you have someone you are working with, be sure that they are skilled in millwork and trim. Never be afraid to ask to see some past work or get a recommendation from a recent project. Eased countertop edge by Village Home Stores

A standard “Eased” edge profile is the most commonly used edge profile on stone countertops. Many times this edge is selected because it comes with no upcharges to apply to your stone. In reality, the “Eased” edge is sometimes the best look for the overall design. Clean and simple lines always can find a home in any style of kitchen. Here it helps from distracting from the door details the “Royale” style from Koch includes.

What You May Not Expect:

Now for those details that make the design. The ones you may not expect to see but that bring this kitchen design into that “magazine cover” or “Pinterestworthy” category. These details are why working with a professional can not just save you time and money but give you the end result you want! Ogee countertop edge by Village Home Stores

The accent island is not only an accent color but it is framed in with an accented edge profile. The “Ogee”  edge profile has been added onto all four edges of this kitchen island. Right at the center of activity and much of the attention to any guest, this detail helps give the island a furniture look. Light from the windows and the kitchen lighting highlights the edges perfectly.beverage cooler by Village Home Stores

In that same island is a glass-front beverage cooler. This keeps beverages easily accessible to guests and frees up space in the main refrigerator for other items. Also notice how the trim carpenter framed in the baseboard below to help keep the built-in unit looking at home in the furniture style island. Paneled dishwasher by Village Home Stores

Panel-ready appliances like this dishwasher unit are always a great choice when you want to include designer details in your kitchen. Refrigerators, beverage coolers, dishwashers, and icemakers all can be ordered in panel-ready models.applied doors by Village Home Stores

Speaking of panels, notice how there are no basic, smooth ends or back to any of the cabinetry in this Moline kitchen? Applied doors have been added to all of the exposed ends in the design. The back of the Peninsula that faces the adjacent Dining Room also has custom panels applied. These exposed ends are an opportunity to give a custom look to your kitchen.

spice drawer by Village Home Stores

Some of the design details and upgrades in this new kitchen you can’t see unless you are using this kitchen. A spice drawer organizer is located in a stack of drawers below the window.

knife drawer by Village Home Stores

Above that spice drawer is a knife block drawer. These modifications and inserts can be added anywhere in a design. Your designer at Village Home Stores can work with you to find the perfect locations and modifications for your lifestyle. The kitchen sink is right at the center of all activity in the new kitchen. A beautiful E-Granite sink has been undermounted to the Cambria quartz tops.

This sink is truly the best of both worlds. A low divider undermounted sink has the benefits of a single and a double well layout. Low divider sink by Village Home Stores

The option to fill one side when a shallow soak is needed for washing but the space for larger items when needed. This Moline kitchen is not bright and airy. What sets it apart are the details. Details really do make the design. Moline, IL remodeled kitchen by Village Home Stores

Bath Remodel: Counter Clutter Contained in Moline Bath

Moline_Bathroom_remodelersThe Moline kitchen we featured on the blog a few weeks back also had a nearby bathroom in the home that was remodeled as well. Village Home Stores offers bathroom vanities available from all of our cabinet lines. We also carry the the full line of Bertch Bath products made not to far from us in Waterloo, IA. Bertch offers bath cabinetry in a number of sizes and layouts and can be ordered in many wood species and finishes.

vanityThis bathroom may only house one small vanity but there are a lot of great ideas within this new space. The first is the vanity itself. The “Hudson” doorstyle is one of the most versatile vanity styles available from the Bertch Bath catalog. This is because it can be finished and styled in so many different ways. The vanity in this space has been ordered in a Alder wood and dark “Brindle” finish has been applied. Decorative feet have also bee added in place of a toekick area to give a more freestanding and furniture look to the cabinet.

bathroom_cabinetBertch_Bath_MolineTo keep that furniture vanity appearance, a framed mirror has been installed above the vanity in place of a tri-view medicine cabinet that may be expected here. A single panel of beveled mirror is framed in the same mitered “Hudson” style as the doors. The single-door medicine cabinet installed on the nearby wall to the left creates a storage space for small items and keeps them off the vanity counter.

The wall outlet for this bath vanity is a very busy place. Many women can relate to the multiple devices like straighteners and blow-driers and curling rods that can clutter up a bathroom countertop. But why are these cords leading down to the floor past the vanity top? Because this bathroom was designed to accommodate all of those hair appliances!

vanity topA narrow bathroom caddy is tucked away between the bath vanity and the wall and the granite countertop has even been extended to add more counter space to the user at the vanity.

tiled_shower_VillageThe tile in this bathroom is bright and classic. New floor tile has been placed throughout and a brand new custom-tiled tub/shower surround has been installed as well. A strip of glass mosaic tile surrounds the new shower and glass corner shelves were installed for shower items. The new Stainless Steel shower head includes a removable handheld wand and multiple spray options.

tiled_showerAn tiled cubby within the shower wall was added to offer another location for shower items and accessories. This keeps clutter from piling up along the edge of the tub/shower base.

Tour The Set Of The New WQAD Kitchen

kitchen at WQADWith the Village Home Show launching this coming Sunday at 11am on WQAD News 8 we wanted to give you a look around at the set itself. You may have already seen it in action during the morning news. Local chefs and guests have already began to use the fully-functioning new kitchen set on  air. Village_Home_Show_setbeforeThe Village Home Show will feature before and after stories of kitchen and bath remodel projects from right here in our area. We wanted to not overlook the before and after story of the set kitchen itself. This unused corner of the news studio at WQAD has been totally transformed into a kitchen larger than many we remodel. We made this space beautiful AND functional.

The kitchen layout fits multiple users and is outfitted with camera-friendly finishes. There could be as many as three or four camera angles used during any taping and the space has to look as inviting as possible. The space within the kitchen is large enough for many users at a time to fit comfortably within while using it.layout_wqad_kitchen

We wanted to select finishes for this set that would look timeless and relate-able to viewers. We think these cherry cabinets and neutral finishes can be easily imagined in your own home. The main perimeter counter tops of the kitchen are by CambriaUSA Quartz in a color called “New Quay”. The kitchen cabinetry is from our Dura Supreme line and the Cherry Valencia door in a “Mission” stain and “Charcoal” glaze has been installed throughout the set.walk zanger tile

The pub-height table top is a granite perfectly named “Earth Glitter” The natural veining and shimmers add a bit of character to the space without looking busy or distracting from the guests who may be seated there.

walker_zanger_backsplashThe  backsplash tile we selected for the set kitchen has already become very popular. It is a ceramic tile from Walker Zanger’s 6th Avenue Collection. With bright studio lights and cameras pointing in many directions, we wanted a big impact but nothing reflective. This “Cocoon” shaped “Flax” tile is available in a matte finish.

cooktopQuartz counters were chosen for their excellent durability for this multi-use space. When you see the kitchen on-air during cooking segments the user at the cooktop actually faces the news desk. The weather center is close by to the right of this peninsula. The weather team could take just a few small steps and sneak a sample of food  being prepared a few feet away.

The kitchen appliances you see in this set are all from the newest launch of Maytag products. Click on each link to see more about each model. A combination wall oven and microwave are installed right next to the large french-door counter depth refrigerator. Just in case the dishwasher needs to run while a camera is on, we installed Maytag’s quietest model available. The 5-burner gas cooktop will be getting the most use and that is why we designed the kitchen to keep that front and center.maytag

The cabinetry in this kitchen is unique in many ways and we have Dura Supreme to thank for that. One of our favorite details can be found in the corner of the kitchen…glass_doors

curved_cabinet_doorCurved doors on both the base and wall cabinets are a subtle detail that add a lot of style. This feature instantly created a custom-cabinet look to your space without having to shift all of your product over to a completely custom-cabinet line. The mullion door design options from Dura Supreme are very unique as well. We ended up selecting the look above to suggest the curves of an “8”.

pantry_shelvesWe have been thrilled to see the kitchen in use and are so excited to share the Village Home Show with you every Sunday. We love helping our customers create beautiful spaces in their homes where memories can be made and we look forward to watching a lot of great memories made at WQAD. We can’t wait to hear from you what you have seen happen in the new kitchen.

Tune in every Sunday morning at 11am to learn about the latest industry trends, hear from expert guests and see beautiful spaces transform right before your eyes. The projects featured on the Village Home Show are part of the Project Management program available from Village Home Stores. We can’t wait to share with you what we have been working on.WQAD village home show
