White and Mocha New Home Kitchen In Bettendorf Iowa for Applestone Homes

We have seen a lot of two-tone painted kitchen designs lately so how about some wood in the mix? We love the kitchen in this new home built in Bettendorf, Iowa by Applestone Homes. This kitchen design with Koch Cabinetry from Village Home Stores blends bright white paint, “Mocha” wood, and a subtle blue wall tile together for a great finished look. With nods to both New Traditional and Farmhouse styles there are lots of great details throughout this new home. Let’s take a look around.

The finishes in this open concept kitchen are soothing and sophisticated. But once you pick your jaw up off the floor from what it looks like, you get a chance to appreciate how it functions. This open and airy layout with a centered single-level island is ideal for one user or many! Because of the placement of the cooking, cleanup, and available prep zones, you could comfortably have three active users plus someone even doing their homework at the end of the island.

Koch Classic Cabinetry in the Maple “Bristol” door is painted in a “White” finish. Storage is key in an open concept kitchen design like this. You want to have everything accessible… but out of sight when not being used. Cluttered counters and open shelf carts full of pans and utensils can take away from a gorgeous and serene kitchen like this. In the cooking zone we have surrounded the range user with three wide and deep drawer stacks to move into. Here you can keep pots, pans, lids, baking dishes, and even small appliances within reach when needed.

Keeping utilitarian items out of sight when the kitchen isn’t active helps to keep this kitchen clean and serene throughout the day. Many busy households find the need to up their fresh and frozen food capacity. This layout includes space for an all refrigerator on one end of the sink wall and an all freezer unit on the other. This is a restaurant-level feature and can sometimes take away from a kitchen design. This finished kitchen design softens the amount of stainless steel by surrounding the units with wood panels and cabinets above. The view of the Iowa Quad Cities countryside honestly steals the show on this wall. We love the look of this farm sink but even more, we are jealous of anyone who gets to use it and gaze out at the creek.

The image below of our masked intern will give you a little hint as to when we photographed this finished kitchen. The Spring and Summer of 2020 are seasons none of us will forget and they resulted in a lot of changes in our industry and of course the local market for new and existing homes. As we approach the Fall, one thing we can all agree on is every home needs one OR MORE work from home or e-learning setups. This kitchen island can be an excellent temporary workspace. So much great bright daylight (for those zoom or google classroom meetings) and an outlet on the end to plug in your devices.

The kitchen island is finished in a “Mocha” stain from our Koch Classic line. This stain has been applied on the same “Bristol” door in a Rustic Birch wood. The end result is the look of a rich, rustic Cherry wood that blends well with medium wood tones like the flooring and furniture in this home. That same wood tone is repeated in the range hood and the gorgeous stacked crown detail where the walls meet the ceiling. One wall of the kitchen design is home to a bank of tall pantry cabinets. The top sections of the doors as well as the two cabinet doors surrounding the range hood have been fit with antique mirrored glass. This gives you the option to store whatever you would like behind the doors without having to style them as a display.

When you work with a kitchen designer at Village Home Stores we can help you decide not just what cabinets fit in your space, but what available storage you will end up with once everything is installed. We often showcase pullout upgrades and specialty inserts but don’t forget that basic open shelf cabinets can house a lot of items. We have many options to upgrade shelf construction and add sliding shelves in some locations. In some cases, just adding an extra interior shelf may be a great upgrade for a very minimal cost.

As taller ceiling heights remain to be a trend in new homes, the “standard” 30″ tall wall cabinet has become a thing of the past. We can order a variety of wall cabinet heights. Some of the newer industry standards have become 36″ and 42″ tall but we can order any and all heights. Press play below to see a short video tour of this kitchen design:

We also provided cabinetry for the rest of this Bettendorf home. The primary bathroom (shown below) repeated the same Bristol doorstyle but this time in a cooler “Stone” stain on Birch wood. Two sink bases and a centered stack of drawers provide plenty of counter space between the two vanity sinks.

We love the creativity of Applestone Homes. There is always something new and unexpected in every home they build. The lower level bar in this property is no exception. This design only requires 3 cabinets and looks incredible! A back bar with sinkbase and full height door storage plus a front bar with an X design installed on site.

New Build Farmhouse in Rural Illinois With Angled Island

We label a lot of kitchens “Modern Farmhouse” these days… but this time we truly mean it! The kitchen in this new Aledo, IL home has modern upgrades and farmhouse details PLUS just happens to be built on family farmland! It has a stylish and clean transitional look with tons of great modern features. Village Home Stores was so glad to partner with Bagby Construction on the design and materials for this new construction project. Let’s take a tour of some of the highlights from this home beginning with the kitchen in the open concept great room.

A modern take on a U-shape kitchen layout, this perimeter angles in slightly on each end and the shape is mirrored back in a single-level kitchen island. This kitchen is spacious and interesting and serves up plenty of great storage without needing any corner susan cabinets. Our favorite material detail selected for this space is the choice of Cambria Quartz in the “Skara Brae” design. This engineered quartz is a stunning blend of warm gray tones arranged in a river-like pattern with a bright white background. The best place to see this full pattern is on the large island top below.

A great way to modernize any element is to take a classic shape and change the material. n the case of this kitchen, a Kohler farmhouse apron sink is undermounted to the Cambria quartz in a Stainless Steel material. This sink even has the modern feature of a lowered center divider. A low divider sink layout allows you the option to separately soak, rinse, or dry items. The divider is just high enough to fill for a decent soak on one side without wasting a lot of water. Take a glance below and imagine this sink with a large skillet or pan needing to soak. A low divider allows you to get that soak and still lay the handle down in the sink without splashing and making a huge mess.

If you peek just past the faucet base, you will also see another great modern detail installed in the countertop surface. A garbage disposal is nothing new, but a button switch that is located right by the faucet in a low-profile is pretty great! A great meal at home begins with prep and always ends in making a big mess. So any cleaning zone of an active kitchen needs a dishwasher that can get to work for you. Have a big mess? This KitchenAid dishwasher can fit it all, adjust to the soil level of your load, and a full load quietly at just 39 DBA.

A removable third level rack gets you capacity when you need it for lids, utensils, or flatware. The main upper rack must have been designed originally for Inspector Gadget because it’s got so many cool features! The rack itself can adjust easily up and down. Two rows of adjustable tines can be shifted into one of three positions to accommodate deep or wide dishes. Your household have a lot of reusable water bottles to keep clean? This upper rack also has spray nozzles that can be placed deep inside tall or odd-shaped items like bottles, glasses and vases to thoroughly clean them. Have baby bottles to wash? Use these same bottle wash nozzles plus the Sani-Rinse option that heats the final rinse water to 155°F, eliminating 99.999% of food soil bacteria.

This kitchen island design is ideal for prep, cleanup, casual dining, and entertaining. The design of an island shape that angles in helps to keep the user’s work triangle tight and allows the exterior of the island to spread out. Three spans of counter-height overhang are available for seating and electrical outlets on each end make the island versatile. You can plug in small appliances for prep or even crock pots for serving. With a wide counter and incredible natural light, plug in a laptop and this island can even become a work-from-home space.

The cooking zone is right at the center of this kitchen design. Instead of a freestanding range with hood layout, this design splits up the cooktop and oven. The center stretch of base cabinets is packed full of deep and sturdy drawer storage including underneath the cooktop.

A wide stack of two deep pots and pans drawers is available right beneath the cooktop. Flanking each side is a three drawer stack with enough width for smaller pans, utensils and other tools. The classic shape and function of a cup pull handle is perfect for a slab drawer front like these. Notice that on the wide pots and pans drawers we used two pulls.

The 36″ wide 5 burner gas cooktop and 30″ wide wall oven have been installed separately. This widens the cooking zone making it easier for two users and allows for a built in microwave to be installed above the wall oven. Now the microwave and wall oven are each raised up to a more comfortable height to read controls and load and unload items. A drawer below the wall oven is the perfect place for storing baking sheets and racks.

Tall cabinets with built in cooking can also provide a visual balance for other tall elements in a kitchen design. In this home, the tall cabinet is complimented across the layout with a french door refrigerator surrounded by end panels and a deep upper cabinet. This KitchenAid refrigerator is one of our bestselling models. The interior layout is amazing and even includes a slide-away shelf that allows you to adjust the storage space in seconds. Our lighting experts will help you create a plan that uses your lighting budget to carry your personal style from room to room and even within the same room. Like many new homes, this layout has an open concept with an entrance, living room, dining room, and the kitchen all in one view. We love the “Pearson” series from Capital lighting. It is a wonderful transitional chandelier series that can look right at home in so many spaces. Here above you can see the 8-light Pearson hangs above the dining area and if you look the the back of the image you can see a two-tiered 24-light version hanging in the front foyer. Below is an image showing you the view looking up from the front entrance of the home.

Size and scale are just as important as style when selecting lighting for your home. Our lighting experts are here to help you make the right decisions with that in mind. The same can be said about ceiling fans. Nothing can look more out of place than a tiny fan in a great room. Not to mention the function of a fan is to move air within that space. The 70″ wide “Maverick” fans in this house are just the right size and they are super stylish. Plus these fans are “damp-rated” so you can install them inside and outside.

Speaking of outside, don’t forget that the first chance at a first impression with your lighting is outside the entrance to your home. Don’t leave your exterior lighting selections for a last-minute thought. With many new styles available, it is such a fun category of lighting. Gone are the days of installing the same basic lantern style as your neighbor. We love the schoolhouse style arm lights selected at this home. The “Allenbury” series in a 14″ size from our Kichler line has been installed across the front garage area of this new home.

We wanted to take some time to show you around the many highlights from this project beginning with a tour of the open-concept great room kitchen. The element that is first to grab your attention in the kitchen is the tiled backsplash area on the range wall. The main backsplash tile throughout the kitchen and dry bar area is a 1″x4″ Tundra Gray by Epic Stone. It is accented with a shimmering wide stripe of metal mosaic that cascades from ceiling to cooktop. This Falling Stars Aluminum Mix series in the Platinum Moon color is from our Glazzio Tile line. It blends mixed metallic finishes in grays and silvers.

This tile looks so perfectly at home surrounded by the “Fog” painted Koch cabinetry and Stainless Steel appliance package. A pot filler faucet in matte black has also been installed on the accent tile. This adds function and style to the cooking zone. The star of the kitchen appliances in this new home is the 48″ wide KitchenAid commercial style range. For serious home chefs, curious future home chefs, or households who entertain large groups, this range is a dream! 4′ wide with two oven cavities, this is a dual fuel model range. That means that you get the accuracy and constancy of an electric bake or broil in the ovens and the immediate control of a gas cooktop. Shop dual fuel ranges here at villagehomestores.com

Atop that double oven is 4′ of exceptional cooktop surface. A combined 6 gas burners and an integrated griddle. A continuous grate system over the burners allow a user to move pans of all sizes from one location to another. It also makes a great wide surface for cooling items from the oven. This is illustrated below by “Lord Stanley” who is monitoring the status of some cookies cooling.

The cabinetry in this Bettendorf kitchen is from our Koch Classic line in the best-selling Savannah doorstyle. This flat-panel door is the perfect Transitional selection that can work for many tastes. It can be ordered in painted and stained finishes. Shown here with the painted light gray “Fog” finish on the perimeter and “Black” paint on the kitchen island. The Fog paint is a wonderful neutral finish option for spaces that have a lot of whites and want a subtle compliment.

Our most requested feature for new home kitchen designs is a hidden pantry (also modeled here by Lord Stanley who just wanted to make sure we weren’t after his treats). We are able to order a matching tall cabinet front with no bottom rail from our cabinet companies. This allows you to create an entrance that looks like a normal pantry, but opens to reveal a hidden walk-in space. Want to see more examples of hidden pantries? Check out this storage solutions board on our Pinterest page!

Fresh and frozen food storage is found on the other wall of the kitchen design. We surrounded a counter-depth French Door refrigerator with a deep upper cabinet and tall end panels. This gives a built in and clean finished look. Concerned about losing storage space with a counter depth model? You no longer have to be! This counter-depth KitchenAid model is the largest capacity counter-depth refrigerator in its class! It has a slide-away split shelf, self-close crispers, and a custom temperature pantry drawer.

In this great room we provided three medium-sized pendants for above the kitchen island, a dinette light, and ceiling fans. Working with a lighting expert allows you to create a lighting plan using multiple brands and styles that compliment each other. This is so much better for a finished result than just buying a whole series of the same lighting in varied sizes. We love the jar shape of the Uttermost “Lansing” island pendants and the complimenting finishes in a difference shape and style for the dinette area just beyond the kitchen.

Below the pendant lights and right at the center of all kitchen activity is the kitchen sink. A farmhouse style apron sink has become another staple feature for many styles of homes. Here we have created the perfect prep and cleanup space by including a pull out waste basket to the right of the sink, and a KitchenAid dishwasher to the left. Quiet at just 39 decibels (normal conversation is about 50), you can run this dishwasher any time of day or night without disrupting music or television use in the great room.

The countertop surfaces in this kitchen are a marble-look engineered quartz surface called “Calacatta Laza”. This color is a fantastic marble fake-out in a durable and foodsafe surface. We are learning now more that ever that it is important to help reduce the spread of germs and bacteria within your home. Quartz countertop surfaces are non-porous so they will not absorb stains, cleaners, or any other “ickies” that may be on these cute paws below. Quartz surfaces can be cleaned with any non-abrasive cleaners and many times our customers just use mild soap and water.

Let’s head to the bar to celebrate and toast this new home! The same quartz surface and “Fog” painted cabinetry was installed as an extension to the kitchen in a dry bar area. Here we included a finished cabinet interior and glass doors for the upper cabinets and a built-in space below for beverage coolers. The result is a large built in bar area that keeps a light, airy, and inviting feel for use.

The two under counter appliances built in are stylish and super functional. With a counter-depth refrigerator as the main kitchen fridge, these glass-front models allow for added beverage storage outside of needing to use the main fridge. On the left is a wine cellar unit with two temperature zones within. On the right is a glass-front undercounter refrigerator. Glass-front bar fridges are fantastic for households who entertain because you have a clear way-finding clue day and night for guests to serve themselves without feeling sneaky trying to find the drinks.

And while “Lord Stanley” is the guardian of the pantry in this house, it looks like “Cy” here is the bouncer for this bar! This entire new home is stunning and fit with many high end products. We wanted to take a moment to point out the flooring in these spaces. Would you believe this ISN’T real hardwood? In photos and even in person it will fool you! This is actually a floating luxury vinyl plank floor. We wanted to point out that many of our new home customers are selecting luxury vinyl planks and tiles and the look and performance is still high end!

New Home in Geneseo, IL With White and Gray Finishes

This week’s project feature is a new home that was just completed in Geneseo, IL built by Bob Johnson Construction. We love the classic look of a white painted kitchen cabinet. The kitchen in this home includes our Koch Classic Cabinetry line in the Prairie doorstyle and painted “White” finish on the perimeter. The kitchen island is installed in the same doorstyle but finished in a gray paint color named “Fog”. The kitchen cabinetry stretches all the way to the ceiling and leaves just enough space for a stylish stacked crown molding to be applied.

The Stainless Steel appliance package from Whirlpool is packed with great features. The cooking wall includes a front control gas range with convection and a microwave hood above it. The convection oven has a “Rapid Preheat” feature that uses all of the elements and a rear fan to preheat the oven 20% faster. This new front-control range design gives you a sleek and custom look without needing a special size or opening. Fitting in any standard 30″ wide opening, you can replace your existing electric or gas range with this look that removes the tall control area on the back wall. Now your entire backsplash can show off.

The refrigerator wall of the kitchen design includes a fingerprint-resistant finish Stainless Steel refrigerator. This builder was able to include a planned niche space in the wall to recess the refrigerator and allow the customer to purchase a standard, full-depth model. Not every kitchen design demands the flush style of a counter-depth model, but every design certainly looks cleaner with it.

Curious about how the depth of your refrigerator may change the look of your kitchen design? Check out this ideabook on our houzz page that is a collection of full-depth and counter-depth models installed in completed kitchens. We love the shallow landing space that was created on the right side of the refrigerator. This narrow cabinet area helps to give the refrigerator wall a built in look and provides a great landing space for mail, keys, and phones. This kitchen opens up to a dining space as well as a living room.

The dining table just off of the kitchen can comfortably seat a large crowd for a meal, but the island also has seating which can be a great casual place to grab a seat. Counter-height seating continues to be the trend for kitchen island designs. Bar heights can be uncomfortable for longer periods of time and difficult to use for families with small children. With the kitchen sink at the center of the island top, the overhang end can become a wonderful and large work surface when needed. Many of our clients work from home and prefer the option of a desk area in the heart of the home. Gone are the days of having that kitchen desk facing a wall. In this design you can plug a laptop or tablet right into the end of the island and soak in all this amazing sunlight and open space.

Neutral tones are always a great choice no matter what style of space you are creating. In this Bettendorf, Iowa home we included our Dream Weaver carpeting from the Metropolitan series in the “Iron Frost” color. This carpet provides the color and comfort needed for the home’s bedroom, stairs, and closet floor surfaces. Make sure you are investing in quality flooring surfaces when you are building a home. You want carpeting that will stand the test of time. It needs to look and feel great for many years to come. Ask a flooring expert at Village about what sets Dream Weaver apart from other carpeting lines.

Of course we didn’t carpet the entire place. The main flooring surface you will fall in love with when visiting this home are the engineered wood floors in the entry, kitchen, dining, living room, mudroom, laundry, and hallways. This 7″ wide surface is from our Canoe Bay Key West line. The color is called “White Street” and it provides an gorgeous blend of lighter woodtones.

Every well-designed space needs some element of fun! In this great room it is the tile surface selected for the fireplace surround. This tile is from the Glazzio Picassa Series in the “Paloma Taupe” color. This pattern is neutral in color but almost has a quilt-like pattern in the mosaic. We repeated this same tile as an accent area above the kitchen cooktop across the great room.

If this pattern isn’t your thing, don’t worry! With this series of tile we can get the same color combination in a number of other patterns. In this Bettendorf living room, a rustic barnwood beam caps off the tiled surround for a mantle. We kept a clean look surrounding the tile edges with a bronze-finished metal end cap piece. These channeled tile trim pieces called “Schluter strips” help to cap off cut edges of tile and keep a contained and clean look.

We also used Schluter edging around the hearth area corners and edges. They come in a variety of finish color options. Here we keep a contrasting finish and the look makes a fun bold statement. The hearth area at the base of the fireplace is an elongated 3″ x 12″ “New Yorker” tile in a “Bright White” finish.

We repeated the same “New Yorker” tile as the main kitchen backsplash surface. If you find yourself drawn to spaces with white subway tiles surfaces ask about elongated tile options. Longer tiles in a subtle and classic shape, this option can help draw the look of a space out and seem larger.

For the tiled shower in the Master Bath we used an elongated white tile again but varied the texture and size a bit. Here we used a 4″ x 20″ tile from the “Ascot Brickwall” series in a “Matte White” color. Using a matte finished tile here helps to soften the space and help draw attention to the accent tile band around the center. 8″ x 24″ deco tiles from American Olean’s “Visual Impression” series are a Linear Diamond “Beige” color. As an added detail, we also used a warm gray grout color here to help showcase the wall tile shapes.
