This weekend is your final chance to tour the QCBR Spring Parade of Homes listings. We have another peek for you inside one of the properties we had the pleasure of partnering on. This Home in Bettendorf, Iowa from McCoy homes is on trend AND on the market! We love the uniqueness of this home and you will too. Here are a few sneak peeks at it online but you really do need to see it in person this Saturday or Sunday!
Open concept kitchens are the desire for most of our remodel customers. For our new home customers, its is pretty much expected on a print. We 100% understand the appeal of having a home’s kitchen, dining, and living room spaces all sharing the same look feel, and space. The kitchen is no longer the “hub” of the home. In today’s mobile and connected culture, the “hub” is wherever you are at the time. Kitchens and dining spaces are not just for cooking and nosh! They are for entertaining, homework, working from home, and more!
We absolutely love the flow of this open concept kitchen! Village Home Stores provided the cabinetry, countertops, and appliances for this stylish home. White painted cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the Bristol door is painted with a “white” finish on the perimeter and island. The range wall is the focal point of the design. A symmetrical layout of base cabinets and wall cabinets frame in the unique wood hood with a 390 CFMs blower insert and a unique kitchen tile backsplash.
While the surfaces and layout may grab your attention at first, don’t overlook that Stainless Steel range at the center of the wall. This front-control gas range has cast-iron grates that extend across the entire cooktop, giving you the flexibility to place pots and pans anywhere during the cooking process. Plus skip preheating for frozen favorites like pizza and lasagna with Frozen Bake™ technology!
The kitchen island shape is unique and angled like many other details in the home. A double-angled “batwing” curve design hugs the sink and dishwasher at the center of the design. This dishwasher has an AnyWare ™ silverware basket and one hour wash cycle. Plus it is currently on clearance! Shop it here while supplies last.
On the back of the kitchen island we have applied smooth panels and trim in a more modern take for the Farmhouse trend. The island has an overhang with seating for 4 (or more) counter-height barstools. The countertops for this kitchen are a Q Quartz product that gives your the look of marble with the performance of an engineered quartz. Translation: red wine spills wont ruin the party! Village Home Stores also provided the cabinetry and countertops for the bathrooms at this McCoy Homes parade home.
We are completely jealous of whomever gets to have this Master Suite! Farmhouse tile inlay, gray cabinetry with added storage in the countertop tower, and a clever pass through from the master closet to the laundry room (check that out this weekend during the parade). The same Bristol door from the kitchen cabinets is used here with a gray “Fog” paint applied.
If you have a chance to visit the FREE QCBR Spring Parade of Homes this Saturday or Sunday from 1-5pm, be sure to include a stop at this great home from McCoy Homes. We are so thankful Village Home Stores gets to work with so many of the incredible builders in the Quad Cities Region. We thank McCoy Homes for their business and for letting us show you around! Grab info and a map of parade stops here online at the QCBR website. If you have questions about any products you saw at this parade home please don’t hesitate to reach out to our new build team! Call us at (309) 944-1344 or send us a message here online. We cant wait to hear what you are working on!
Spring has sprung and that means that the Quad Cities Builders & Remodelers Spring Parade of Homes is almost here! We wanted to give you a sneak peek into one of the parade homes you are going to fall in love with in 2019. This incredible open-concept kitchen design is a dream space in the Applestone Homes QC parade stop this Spring. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with Applestone Homes on their projects because they are so refreshingly creative with their details and home layouts. The homes they are building in the Quad Cities are so exciting!
In this parade home we provided the cabinetry and countertops for Applestone. Our Koch Classic Cabinetry line is a wonderful cabinet choice for any style of space. This Transitional-styled kitchen uses a classic flat-panel door from Koch named “Savannah” in a Maple wood for the perimeter of the cabinet design in a painted “White” finish. A large window above the kitchen sink helps to bounce light off the white cabinet and countertop surfaces.
The window wall is home to the farmhouse kitchen sink, dishwasher, and divided fresh and frozen food storage. Using a modern material like Stainless Steel on a farmsink helps to lean the style of the kitchen back away from rustic style to a more updated, modern farmhouse look. The overall look of this kitchen is so clean and inviting. It looks upscale but it is still approachable and welcoming. Open concept kitchens are perfect for entertaining and you want everyday users and guests to all feel comfortable. This kitchen and living room space definitely checks all of those boxes!
One of our favorite elements to this kitchen design is a room Applestone added just within reach of the kitchen. Who wouldn’t love to enjoy their morning coffee in this adjacent sitting room (shown below)?! Scratch that-we would love to enjoy morning coffee, working from home, cocktail hour, golden hour…. you get the point.
Installing flat-panel, white cabinetry creates a minimal gallery effect for the statement details in the overall kitchen design like this incredible hood! This wall may have visual focal point with the hood but it adds so much value for the homeowner because of the storage. In place of doors that open up to fixed or sliding shelves, we have included large drawers. Large drawer stacks like this are wonderful for prep zones of a kitchen design. The drawers are built to hold the weight and capacity for pots and pans storage as well as small appliances. In this Bettendorf, Iowa home we have included one on each side of the range to keep the wall symmetrical in design and keep the focus on the hood.
Speaking of storage, this kitchen has it everywhere! Notice in the image above that we have included wall cabinets that stretch to the ceiling instead of standard 30″ cabinets. You may need a stepstool to reach that top shelf but any homeowner will appreciate the extra space once they move into this kitchen. We have also included slide out shelves in the smaller base cabinets as well as a double bin pullout waste basket cabinet. Why a double bin? So your household can sort recycling and standard waste as you dispose of it.
Village Home Stores designs kitchens that look great and kitchen designs that function well for the users! We even included hidden storage on the back of the kitchen island. Store bulk items, seasonal and entertainment items, platters and extra glassware, whatever your heart desires all out of sight beneath the kitchen island countertop overhang. Press play below to see what we mean.
Of course the front side of the kitchen island is functional as well. Drawer and door storage cabinets and a drawer beneath a microwave. The same “Savannah” door is used on the kitchen island. This time in a Birch wood with the “Stone” stain applied. We also used this Stone stain in the bathrooms and lower level bar area of the home. We didn’t want to show you all of this home in a blog feature. You are going to have to visit this home during the parade to see those spaces. You will love this entire home.
The kitchen island also boasts a wonderful large surface perfect for food prep, entertaining, casual dining, and more (just watch your head with those lights if you use it for a dancefloor). The look of marble with the maintenance-free appeal of quartz. These tops from our Q-Quartz line are the perfect material selection for any busy open-concept kitchen. Blue cabinetry is having more than just a “moment” in the Kitchen and Bath industry! We have installed so many stunning spaces over the past fews years that have introduced a painted blue finish and now it is become such a staple option for Transitional, Scandinavian, and Modern Farmhouse styled spaces. Blue cabinetry is forecasted to remain an accent color for many years to come. Our Koch Classic Cabinetry line makes a neutral blue-gray paint called “Charcoal Blue” and it truly makes a great statement as the island finish in this Bettendorf, Iowa kitchen.
This home, built by Edgebrooke Homes, was a QCBR Fall Parade of Homes stop and it is such a wonderful example of how Village can partner with you and your builder to save you time AND money. Shopping our one-stop-shop experience and bundling your purchases is the way to go and it gets you a a more complete design concept! Complete, cohesive designs begin with a vision early on in the design phase. Village works hard to keep you on track with that vision (and budget). This great room design concept blends bright painted whites, a Charcoal Blue accent, gray-toned wood floors, and warm rustic woods.
The main kitchen perimeter is a “White” painted cabinetry in the same “Bristol” doorstyle as the kitchen island. Staggered heights and depths of wall cabinetry can help to add interest to a kitchen design that has tall ceilings. This kitchen also includes two heights for casual dining. A large dinette area at dining height, and a single-level kitchen island extends to add more seating at the island.
The pantry and refrigerator wall of the kitchen actually conceals a hidden feature. The pantry doors open to reveal access to the large walk-in pantry space that turns the corner behind the wall of cabinetry. This same look can be applied in a remodel situation with existing closets or unique spaces. Ask your designer at Village Home Stores how we can include one in your own design.
Village Home Stores doesn’t want to just know what kitchen spaces inspire you… we want to know what your own dream kitchen looks like. We know it can be difficult for our clients to have a clear vision of what that looks like early on in the design phase. That is why we are here to help. You showing us spaces and ideas that inspire you, helps us build a concept for your own space and tastes. We have a number of great specialty cabinet options like this pantry front that can take your design to the next level! Press play below to see the pantry doors open up to reveal the hidden room behind them.
The tall pantry cabinet is balanced by the refrigerator surround on the opposite end of this wall. Also included on this wall is a microwave drawer unit. Microwave drawers are a great way to keep the microwave appliance off of the counter and reachable for any users. Another great location for a microwave drawer is in a kitchen island. This section of the featured kitchen creates a great landing space of countertop for loading and unloading the refrigerator and also a work surface for microwave use and food prep.
Counter depth refrigerator models can really help you so much when the design demands it for traffic paths and space allowances. In this kitchen, a standard depth unit works perfectly “built-in” against the wall on one side and with a tall, deep panel on the other. A deep cabinet above completes the look. The 36″ wide Whirlpool model fits and offers so much great storage. It also stays looking great with a Fingerprint Resistant Stainless Steel finish that easily wipes clean.
The kitchen island includes the kitchen sink and a Whirlpool dishwasher. This dishwasher is quiet at just 47 decibels (normal conversation is at about 50 dba). A TotalCoverage Spray Arm cleans with twice the jets as usual and an In-Door Silverware Basket frees up rack space by easily fitting on the front of the lower rack or in the door to make room for more dishes.
To shop our appliances you can browse our website here anytime or day. Village Home Stores offers our customers an expert sales staff and the award-winning customer experience you deserve plus our Local Low Price Guarantee. The countertop surface in this gorgeous kitchen is the Swanbridge design by Cambria Quartz Surfaces. The look of a polished, white marble in a durable maintenance-free surface. Swanbridge is available in the polished (shown) finish as well as a soft, matter finish.
The lighting for the great room has a dark, matte bronze metal finish. Clear glass on the Feiss “Baskin” pendants above the island keep the space feeling light and airy. The Sea Gull Ravenwood Manor Chandelier in the dinette area has 5 exposed vintage bulbs. This 5-light fixture adds style and impact to the space. A great look for this casual but upscale space.
By not including a microwave hood in a kitchen you and your designer at Village Home Stores have many more decorative options for a hood in your kitchen. In this Bettendorf kitchen design we were able to include a decorative wood hood. We fit the hood cabinet with a 390 CFM Broan insert for the range and cooktop area below. Check out the great freestanding double-oven range on this wall.
Two oven cavities so you can bake at two seperate temperatures. The gas cooktop includes a 5th center oval burner. This gas cooktop has EZ-2-Lift™ hinged grates to make clean up easy! Press play below to see these hinged grates in action:
This model is packed with so many great features like Frozen Bake™. Skip preheating the oven for frozen faves like pizza, lasagna, chicken nuggets, fries or pies, thanks to Frozen Bake™ technology. It also bakes with true convection cooking. That helps you cook foods faster by using a third element plus a fan to distribute hot air evenly over, under and around your food. The kitchen is a part of a larger great room space and a gorgeous engineered Oak wood floor ties many of the main-level spaces together. This engineered Oak is from Hallmark Flooring’s Novella series and it is the Fitzgerald color.
That same flooring is installed in the foyer, great room, kitchen, pantry, dinette, powder room and the formal dining room shown above. We love the light fixture selected for the formal dining room. The “Fall Flora” chandelier by Quorum looks amazing! Congratulations to Kerkhoff Homes for winning one of the awards (2018 Best Home in the $639,000-$665,000 price range category) during the Quad Cities Builders & Remodelers Fall Parade of Homes! We were thrilled to have our design and products throughout TWO of the Kerkhoff homes this parade season so we wanted to feature one this week on the blog. The kitchen in this home is stunning. An open layout, a custom range hood, and so many great finish selections. Take a look!
Great Room kitchen layouts should always be open and inviting. By selecting the right surfaces and materials, you also can make a space feel spacious and airy like this kitchen. The kitchen layout in this Bettendorf home is an L-shape perimeter with a large single level island. The cabinetry is the Prairie door in a painted “Ivory” finish from our Koch Classic line.
The kitchen island has an overhang extending off the back for added counter-height seating. There is also a casual dining space adjacent to the kitchen. The star of this kitchen is most certainly the custom hood we created with this builder. A wood hood was built to match the cabinetry of the kitchen perimeter with a Broan blower insert housed within it.
But we didn’t just build a custom wood hood… we took it one step further. A local artist added a faux metallic finish to the lower lip and top rail of the hood giving the illusion of an old metal hood. Even seeing the paint detail up close you will be fooled into thinking it is the real deal!
Below the feature hood is a gas range ready to be put to any task! This front-control gas range has five burners on top and convection features in the oven. Flawless cooking results thanks to Even-Heat™ True Convection; the unique bow-tie design and convection fan in the back of the unit ensure the inside of the entire oven is heated to, and stays at, the perfect temperature. This range also features a Steam Rack that offers the ability to add additional moisture to the inside of the oven, enhancing cooking results.
The French Door refrigerator is the focal point of the other wall of the kitchen. 20 cubic foot of storage capacity and a counter-depth design make it functional in many ways. The ExtendFresh™ Temperature Management System and Produce Preserver help keep food fresh. LED lighting throughout the refrigerator makes food easy to find on every level.
“But there is no water and ice in the fridge” you say? Yes there is! The filtered water dispenser is hidden on the interior of the counterdepth model and an icemaker is in the lower freezer. The kitchen itself includes plenty of storage space within the kitchen cabinets, plus there is a walk-in pantry on the range wall. Cabinet storage and fresh food storage are the main tasks for this section of the kitchen L-shape. As well as a lengthy section of countertop surface for food prep, service, and loading and unloading the refrigerator.
A Sharp microwave drawer is also found on this wall of the kitchen. Kitchen microwave drawers are past the “occasional” spotting and have entered into the “expected” category in our area. They are a great look AND functional solution to the microwave needs in busy kitchens.
Any busy kitchen will need a high-performance dishwasher and this KitchenAid one is ready to be put to work! This one is quiet at just 46 d.b.a (normal conversation levels are around 50), and the ProWash cycle is ready for even the toughest loads. Shop our entire catalog of appliances here on our website. The dishwasher is located on the end of the kitchen island next to the kitchen sink.
The kitchen island is also from our Koch Classic line of cabinetry in the same Prairie door. A Hickory wood has been stained with a warm gray stain named “Stone”. A sinkbase, pull out trash basket, and stack of drawers complete the island cabinet configuration.
Keeping with bright and light finishes, a glossy engineered quartz countertop was installed. Our Q-Quartz line in the color named “Calacatta Laza” is a classic and sophisticated choice. Bright whites blend with ivory and neutral beige veining. A glossy finish is reflective and beautiful. Once installed, quartz has little to no maintenance (yes you still have to wipe it clean). Quartz is also non-porous and foodsafe making it an ideal kitchen surface.
Above the kitchen island hang two glass pendant lights. A great way to give a space a more airy and light look is to use glass or mirror. These pendants from our Feiss Lighting line are named “Zola” and they anchor the island scale and shape but don’t weigh down the space with a dark finish. Instead, you can see through them to that great custom hood design! Shop our lighting catalogs here on our website.

Are you building a new home in the Quad Cities area? Village Home Stores would love the opportunity to partner with you and your builder to give you a beautiful space. We have a special path of processes for our New Construction customers and we would love to share it with you. You can reach us at 309-944-1344 or complete this short online form and a team member will be in touch with you soon to discuss your project.
We had hoped that by the time we shared this “White Drift” painted kitchen that we would have a Winter Wonderland outside our windows to help make it even more charming. No snow yet in Bettendorf Iowa but it doesn’t stop the style in this kitchen from “piling” up! We were thrilled to provide design and materials for this QCBR Parade of Homes entry from Edgebrooke Homes. The kitchen is absolutely gorgeous.
A kitchen can still be bright and light without being solid white! Koch Cabinetry has a new painted finish available named “White Drift” that can be applied to many woods. No matter if that name makes you think of sand dunes or snow, it’s the perfect way to describe the layers of color and character it brings to a design.
Shown here on a Rustic Beech wood and Easton door, the choice of wood species also includes rustic knots and character on the doors and drawers. Lighting trends in kitchen design are moving away from groups of three small pendants and instead replacing that concept with two larger scale fixtures. This provides a big impact of style and scale to a space. The two “Labette” lantern-shaped lights from our SeaGull line are actually considered foyer lights. Here above the kitchen island, the size and style looks perfect!
A large single-level island is located at the center of the design. Here you find the kitchen sink undermounted to quartz counters. A single drill faucet with pullout spray arm keeps the counter from needing multiple holes drilled into it. The only other thing atop the island is a garbage disposal button (shown on right of faucet).
Cambria Quartz in the “Berwyn” design is the perfect pairing with the wood finish. Not every kitchen requires a high contrast of material selections. Here the subtle tone-on-tone approach keeps the space feeling open and bright. The refrigerator wall of the kitchen design is balanced in scale by a tall pantry cabinet on the left side.
But that’s not just a pantry cabinet, it’s a hidden walk-in pantry. Tall pantry fronts can be ordered to match your kitchen cabinets and can turn any available space into hidden storage potential. In new homes it can be easier to plan on having the pantry space available but don’t forget about remodel projects too! Consider current closets or desk areas that may make great pantry areas. Your designer at Village Home Stores can help.
We love any opportunity to include pantry fronts like this in designs. We do show an example of this concept in our Geneseo showroom so stop by to see it! Press play below to see this pantry front cabinet section in Betendorf, IA in action:
That same wall with the pantry and refrigerator also includes a stylish microwave drawer. This kitchen has been fit with an appliance package from our Viking Range line. The microwave shown is a 24″ wide undercounter model that gives a sleek built-in look next to the 36″ wide counter-depth Viking refrigerator. One of the many reasons we love carrying the Viking line is that it is a professional-level appliances product that you can build an ENTIRE kitchen appliance package with including the refrigerator. This is a huge advantage instead of the mix-and-match approach many other high-end brands require.
On the other wall of the kitchen is the cooking center of the design. Two large pots and pans drawer bases flank a 36″ wide 6-burner gas range also from Viking Range. Above the range is a decorative wood hood fit with a Broan built-in PowerPack hood insert (see below for view in).
The 36″ gas range selected for this kitchen is full of exceptional features. Some of our favorites include six sealed burners above and a GourmetGlo™ infared broiler within. This unit is even available in many unique colors for a fun impact in your design! We are also so proud to mention that Viking is another one of our Appliance lines that is manufactured in the United States.
The Quad Cities Region continues to be a wonderful area to build a new home. We are so proud to partner with so many of the talented builders in our area. Don’t forget that New Construction customers are all eligible to our lighting bundle program. As you purchase from multiple departments of our store, you can earn FREE lighting for your home. Learn more about this bundle program in this previous article we posted describing the program. We provided most of the materials throughout this parade home for Edgebrooke Homes. Including the doors and hinges for this built-in area just around the corner from the kitchen.
