During the holiday season, we love to share recent kitchen designs that are great spaces for entertaining. This week’s featured project is a remodeled Coal Valley, Illinois kitchen that is a holiday hosting dream. This spacious kitchen is perfect for entertaining! A U-shaped kitchen layout with a peninsula and dual-level kitchen island. Plus another wall of pantry, fresh food storage, and display cabinets are also within the same room. Step on in and take a look around with us.
Each corner of the kitchen layout includes a tall cabinet with built-in appliances. As you face the main U-shape layout, the left corner is home to a built in microwave and raised dishwasher (shown below). This kitchen remodel was completed keeping as close to the original layout as possible. Why? These gorgeous floors were already installed and in great condition! The original kitchen included a 15″ wide trash compactor unit. In the new design, we instead installed a built-in KitchenAid ice maker. With a water line already accessible in the neighboring corner for the dishwasher, this revised appliance option is ideal for the existing layout.
In the other corner of the kitchen, we installed a double wall oven unit. This 500 series wall oven includes True Convection options. This provides consistent heating and even cooking to ensure there are no burnt edges or under-cooked centers. The temperature probe delivers accurate measurement of internal temperatures of meats, poultry, and casseroles without needing to open the oven. Built-in appliances in a corner can add a lot of interest in look and function. We love how this layout offers up open landing space for the oven items on each side and behind the user at the island.
Speaking of open counter space, the span connecting the U-shape is wide open for prep, service, or decor. This length of counter can be used so many ways. Make a mess? No problem! Clean up is a breeze because there are no grout lines in the kitchen backsplash. A full height slab of matching “Calacatta Laza” quartz surface is installed keeping a clean and consistent look.
Our quartz surfaces are expertly measured, templated, fabricated, and installed. We can even arrange to have cutouts made for your outlets and switches. In this kitchen design we installed our Radiant switches and outlets in a “Nickel” finish. When you work with a lighting expert at Village Home Stores we can help you to select a complimenting finish for your outlets, switches, and covers. Nothing can rob attention from a beautiful kitchen and backsplash quite like disruptively basic outlets dotting across it. This radiant series dresses up the look of any wall switch or outlet.
The right decor and accents can truly make a space! That is absolutely true in the case of the MacKenzie Childs Courtly Check pattern items displayed throughout this new kitchen. The white on white kitchen provides the perfect backdrop for the playfully patterned collection of this homeowner. Shown below is an iconic checkered teapot resting on a 5 burner gas cooktop centered in the dual-level kitchen island.
When you are making selections for a kitchen design there are so many details to be decided. When you work with Village Home Stores we are with you every step of the way. Our designers can help keep you on track, on budget, and guide your choices all with that final finished vision in mind. One detail that can really chance the look of a counter surface is the edge style that you choose. In this Coal Valley kitchen, an “Ogee” edge style was applied to the counter surfaces.
The profile choice on your counter surfaces can add more curves and edges for light to reflect. In this kitchen design, the island counter surfaces look perfectly highlighted and framed in by the “Ogee” edge. We must also mention that the finished space had another very cute black and white accent piece that is featured front and center in the image below:
That’s Martini and she just loves her new kitchen from Village Home Stores. She makes a cameo in so many of these photos we figured a proper intro was in order. The wall opposite the U-shape is home to a tall pantry cabinet, built in refrigerator, and a pair of refrigerated drawers. The main refrigerator is 48″ wide and the set of refrigerated drawers to the left are 24″ wide.
There is a small extension of base and wall cabinets on the other end. Normally this counter surface would become a drop zone for mail, keys, and charging devices. But we hid all of that in the top drawer out of sight! While we can’t design a kitchen that is resistant to clutter or piles… we can suggest better storage solutions for you!
Of course any painted kitchen looks even brighter when it is illuminated by our bestselling Diode LED tape lighting. In this Coal Valley Quad Cities home we installed the low-profile system in three applications: undercounter lighting, in-cabinet lighting, and above cabinet lighting. The look is amazing and with such a low voltage use, this system is the perfect ambient lighting to leave on as much as you would like!
This project was managed start to finish by Village Home Stores using our Complete Project Management Program. This step-by-step process allows us to keep our remodel customers on track and on budget for their home projects with us. You can learn more about our process and see more in-depth tours of the remodels we are completing in the Quad Cities area by watching our weekly TV show. Watch it every Sunday morning on WQAD at 10am or catch past episodes online, anytime on YouTube. Just type “Village Home Show” into the search bar.
The cabinetry in this kitchen is from our Koch Cabinetry line in the “Easton” raised panel door and “Ivory” white painted finish. Want to see more of this gorgeous finished kitchen? The cabinet handles are from Jeffery Alexander’s Sullivan series in the “Brushed Pewter” finish. The appliance package is from our KitchenAid line and many of the built-in unites can be ordered in other sizes if needed. Shop our Local Low Price Guaranteed on all appliances online, anytime here at villagehomestores.com For this remodel we did keep the original flooring… but that didn’t stop us from making some big changes to the flow of the room and nearby spaces. We removed an archway that used to divide the kitchen from the nearby sunroom. By removing that section of arched wall, we were able to extend the kitchen peninsula for more storage and seating (see below).
We also removed some walls and doorways for that mentioned sunroom. Now the flow of the social spaces in this home all feels more open and inviting. We can easily picture this kitchen packed with holiday guests. What a stunning space. Our thanks to these amazing customers for choosing to work with us and for allowing us to come pet Martini one last time and snap some photos to share with you. We all fell in love with the kitchen feature from this home a few weeks ago, and now we wanted to give you a peek at the laundry and master bath as well. Nothing inspires crisp clean laundry days quite like a bright white laundry room. This Bettendorf, Iowa home includes a dream laundry space with cabinetry from our Koch Classic line. The clean lines of the Bristol door are painted in an “Ivory White” finish.
With a laundry space like this, we wouldn’t mind laundry duty! Natural light pours in from a window on the end and a single-wall layout of cabinetry and counter space extends most of the length of the room. Many new and remodel projects we work on have the laundry located near the main living spaces of the home. Gone are the days of descending down into a basement or a closet to do the laundry. Now our customers seek a centrally-located laundry area that can make keeping up with laundry tasks more enjoyable and accessible.
A folding counter is included with space below for laundry basket storage. We love the use of a rolling laundry cart here for style and function. This cart can be rolled right up to the front-load machines. The counter surface in this laundry room is an engineered quartz named “Fossil Gray”. Quartz is a durable and sleek surface ideal for a laundry/utility space like this on the main level of a home. This laundry sink and countertop is ready for any task messy or clean.
If your laundry room design has room for it, we always prefer to include a sink in the layout. Having a sink like this (see below) can let you soak and rinse items and also gives you a place to wash your hands. Because these counters are a quartz surface, we were able to include an under-mounted sink. Now the countertop can be wiped clean easily. The faucet for this sink is mounted on a specific area of the sink layout. Your designer from Village Home Stores will partner with our stone fabrication team to make sure the correct sink and faucet information gets included in the fabrication and installation of your top.
Not every item you wash ends up in the dryer. In fact, the newer high-efficiency model washers spin out so well that most items can avoid a heated dry cycle altogether with a little hanging time. This laundry room layout includes a stylish hanging rod above the folding and sink countertop. The builder installed a shelf and trimmed it out with the crown molding. The look is very nice and certainly beats the look of a last-minute clothes rod install.
So what’s new in Maytag laundry? Well a LOT! We have seen so much change in the last decade with features, finishes, water use, and more. Top-load and front-load laundry models are now fit with so many great features and Maytag offers a wide range of price-points and capacity for your household. Plus every Maytag washing machine comes with a 10 Year Warranty on the motor and wash basket! Maytag laundry products are proudly made in the USA. Washing machines are made in Clyde, Ohio and Maytag Dryers are made in Marion, Ohio.
Maytag has become well known for building dependable, high-performance machines. Of course new features like pre-loaded detergent options, and smart connected features are great. But rest assured that the focus of anything new coming out of those Ohio factories is being built to perform well and last as long as possible. Ask our expert appliance team about the difference between top load and front load washing and what models may be best for your household.
To see more of this laundry room visit the project here on our Houzz page. We also designed a serene and stylish master bathroom in this Bettendorf home. The same Bristol door and “Ivory” paint was used for the cabinetry. Our designer laid out a pattern of drawer bases and sink bases to fill this vanity wall with storage and two vanity sinks.
Across from the vanity wall is a custom tiled shower and stylish tub. Calacatta tile in a variety of sizes and shapes make up the floor and wall surfaces in this space. The best feature of this tile is one you can’t see. These tile floors have a Schluter Ditra-Heat system installed beneath them. And what’s better than heated tile floors? Heated tile floors on a timer so they are all ready for you in the morning!
Marble look engineered quartz tops in the “Calacatta Verona” design will look great for many years to come as the vanity tops. Quartz surfaces clean up easy give the look of a marble in a nonporous surface. Two rectangle undermount vanity sinks are installed in this master bath and a backsplash and two end splashes complete the look.

Why Choose Quartz For Countertops?
Just because quartz is a man-made product doesn’t mean it isn’t a gorgeous and unique surface for your home! Quartz is a wonderful investment for a countertop in your home that looks great and performs great! It is scratch-resistant, foodsafe, and maintenance free! Because of it’s non-porous characteristics, there is never any sealing required. A non-porous surface also means a foodsafe surface for food prep and service. Many restaurants and commercial bakeries choose to have quartz installed for work surfaces for hygienic and durability reasons. If you have a busy kitchen and truly use your work surfaces, quartz may be the right surface for you! Please say hello to our fifteen Hanstone Quartz 2019 promo colors:

What’s Included in a sq/ft Price For Quartz Tops?
Your sq/ft price from Village Home Stores includes template, fabrication, and installation of your tops. You may choose from an Eased, 1/2 Round, or Ogee standard edges. There will be no added installation charge, this is an installed price and includes a template to confirm correct dimensions for your countertops. A standard undermount sink opening and faucet drilling are also included. Undermount sinks are recommended for quartz countertop installations because they give you a clean look that is easy to wipe clean from surface to the sink. Undermount sinks come in a variety of materials and design. For kitchen sink inspiration check out this ideabook we made on our Houzz page. Your salesperson at Village Home Stores will partner with our Quartz fabrication shop to communicate the sink model and faucet locations you have selected so that they can install your purchased sink to the tops at installation.
What Isn’t Included in The Price?
Cooktops, slide-in ranges, additional sinks, additional faucet holes, and outlet cut-outs available at an upcharge. This installed price does not include plumbing hook-up of sink or faucets. You must provide a drawing with measurements and a layout for a quote. All we need are a few basic measurements from you to quote you a price for your counters. Don’t worry, this is NOT what is used to fabricate your countertops. It is just enough information to answer our questions and get you an accurate sq.ft. quote for your space.
While this is an installed price, the removal of your existing tops must be arranged before template and installation dates. This can be quoted to you upon request. Existing countertops must be removed before template date. Once your template date has been arranged, you can expect just a one week turnaround time for your countertops! While we understand that being without countertops and a sink is an inconvenience, we have worked hard to narrow this timeframe down to a single week to help. Check out this past blog post about setting up a temporary kitchen and dishwashing station while you are waiting for your project to be completed.
If it is determined that an overhanging area of quartz surface requires support brackets, they can be quoted to you for an additional charge. We have many quartz countertop surfaces installed in our showroom displays as well as samples of each of these promo-priced options. Are you interested in getting a quote for one of these stunning quartz surfaces for your own home? Just reach out to our kitchen design team for a quote. You can call us at 309 944 1344 or complete this short online form and a team member will contact you about your project. You can grab a .pdf flier with all of these colors listed on it here. We can’t wait to hear what project you are working on!
This kitchen in East Moline, IL has a whole new look and layout. We removed a dividing wall to make room for more natural light and an island design with counter-height seating. Warm, Rustic Beech Koch Cabinetry in the Seneca door and Briarwood stain has been accented with a Black glaze. The mixed metals of copper, Oil-Rubbed Bronze and Black Stainless look amazing. Plus check out the bright statement with that island accent lighting (more on that later)! We absolutely love how this kitchen turned out.
The original kitchen was very nice, but the layout of the cabinetry was awkward and secluded from the front room. This made it a great candidate for a wall removal remodel. Not every kitchen we remodel needs a wall removed to be incredible. In this home however, having the entire space open now seems like that is what the layout should have been all along. In this kitchen we removed a wall and soffit during the remodel process to achieve that open concept. Take a look at the original soffits and dividing wall between the living room and kitchen shown in the before photo below.
What is The Village Process Like?
If you are looking to remodel your kitchen anytime soon you are in the right place! This blog can be such a useful place to find inspiration and help qualify your own likes and dislikes. We hope that Village Home Stores can be a part of your research process AND your remodel process. Are you just seeking products and ideas and to do the remodel work yourself? That’s great! Village Home Stores can provide you with an expertly prepared design and quality materials for you to DIY to your hearts content. But if you don’t have the time or skill to do that, our start-to-finish Project Management process may be the perfect fit for your timeline and your budget. What do we mean when we say our remodel customers can have us manage their job from “start-to-finish” ? It means that from the very first time you message us online or stop by, we are working for you and with you to get you into your finished space. No matter who is doing the remodel work, your first step is the same: just reach out to our team to schedule a Complementary Consultation.
We schedule these consultations in our showroom before visiting your home so that you can get a better understanding of everything we offer and we are able to walk you through our estimating phases. Most people will only remodel a kitchen or bathroom in a home once or twice in a lifetime. It can be overwhelming to know where to start and what happens next. The great news is that we do this all the time! We are here to help walk you through our process and keep you on track and on budget. We want to help you to enjoy this process as much as possible. During this Consultation we will answer your questions and walk you through when you can expect to see your designs and estimates during our phases and discuss our payment options. We will also ask you some questions about the project, your goals, your budget, and who will be doing the work. There is a reason why budget conversations happen well before we begin estimating the project. This is to help us all stay on task and on track when designing your new space. After this Consultation, we will schedule a date for a Jobsite Visit in your home to gather information for us to begin the design phase.
Sometimes Our Biggest Skeptics Become Our Best Cheerleaders
Do you read every detail of a menu item before ordering at a restaurant? Do you answer “of course” when asked if you want your receipt? Did you already take general dimensions of your kitchen layout for us… on graph paper… and use a ruler? Do you have an engineering degree? Does your Summer Vacation this year have a customized itinerary? Have you started a spreadsheet for your remodel project already in Excel or Google Docs? If you answered yes to any of those questions then wow! You love the details and you respect the process! And guess what? You are going to be a HUGE fan of the Village Home Stores remodel process. We love the look on this type of customer’s face when we present our process checklists and walk them through our current and local budget data for projects like theirs. Some of our most appreciative start-to-finish customers are people who could have even done some of the work themselves. But who has the time or energy? We do!
Let Us Get To Work For You
There is a lot to be done before you can enjoy your new space and gathering estimates is a big part of that. The truth is there are 3 and a half pages of phases and checklists before we even reach the phrase “Jobsite binder is delivered and job begins” in our process. There are 9 phases of our process and 7 of those happen before we begin demo. We won’t reveal every phase in detail here but we can summarize them a bit. After that Complimentary Consultation in our showroom we will come out to your home to gather information. Then we will get to work preparing a design to be presented to you. Our goal is to ask enough qualifying questions ahead of the design phase that we can present to you initial designs that are successful. We will next discuss any changes needed to the design and begin making product selections in the showroom. During this Design Presentation meeting in the showroom we will also have you meet with other Village team members in any departments you may need products from. During this meeting we will document you selections and help guide you based on our budget conversations. You will also be given private login information at this meeting so that you can begin to access your design, estimates, and eventually contracts and schedules moving forward. Once all of the work to be done is documented by our team, and we have a clear design concept, we can schedule a Contractor Meeting at your home.
All of the subcontractors we anticipate needing for your project will meet your village designer and our project estimator in your home. All together at the same time. Sounds like an obvious need right? But you would be surprised how rare this is in our industry. At Village Home Stores we believe it is a key element to a successful estimating and end result for all parties involved. Here we can clarify what work is to be completed and included in estimates and allow the subs to have some dialog about the work to be done.
Our start-to-finish Project Management program at Village Home Stores changes and adapts with every project. We have also worked hard to curate a list of reliable, respectful subcontractors who can do quality work for you at a fair price. It has taken some time to get there, but we truly believe we can now say with confidence that our in-house and subcontractor staff are the very best you can ask to work in your home. We are so thankful to continue to get compliments on our staff and the subcontractors we send to our clients’ homes.
What Will An Estimate Include?
But we haven’t mentioned an actual bid or pricing yet? That’s right! We have agreed on a design, selected materials with our experts and your budget in mind, and have detailed estimates for the work to be done and now we can present you an estimate. You will receive a complete estimate along with a detailed inclusion sheet of the work included in that estimate. This estimate will be as accurate as possible before work begins. Of course there can be unforeseeable issues to come up any time you remodel a home. Rest assured that we have a process for that as well. Our crews are used to working together and communicating with you and each other to come up with solutions when problems come up. During your project our team stay customer-focused and solution-focused if issues arise.
Enough about our process! Let us show you around this incredible new kitchen in East Moline, IL. What a warm and open space! This new cabinet layout is packed with great storage and details. Glazzio glass wall tiles in two sizes with an accent listel in an Oil Rubbed Bronze finish cover the kitchen walls. A L-shaped layout with large center island includes plenty of walkway space between the surfaces now that the kitchen wall has been removed. We also removed that kitchen soffit and reworked the ceiling to better compliment the rest of the open areas of the home. The new design truly suits the home perfectly!
With a new flow to the entire space, flooring needed to be a new consistent surface throughout. Once again we are sharing a kitchen with our best-selling COREtec Luxury Vinyl Plank floors here on the blog. Sorry to sound like a broken record repeating itself but this COREtec Plus HD series is extremely durable and waterproof. It has the look and texture of a rustic wood surface. The Barnwood Rustic Pine selected for this kitchen is a great choice to pull from the cabinet stain and accent glaze. We just had two new racks of samples delivered for this product so if you are considering a new flooring surface for your home please come see your options. But can we take a moment please and talk about this lighted island!?!?!
This customer chose to install their Cambria Quartz in the Berkley design in a double-thick edge profile on the island. WOW! When they made that accent choice, the homeowner thought that accenting it even more with some lighting could make for a very cool effect. He was right! The look is pretty stunning day and night. This low-profile low-voltage tape light can be installed in a lot of fun ways. Because it is low-voltage, this island accent light can become the perfect nightlight or glow in the evening while watching TV or spending time out on the wrap-around deck.
The same Diode tape light is also installed underneath and above the kitchen perimeter cabinetry. We even concealed something else underneath the cabinets to keep the look clean. All of the kitchen switches and outlets are located in the recessed area under the wall cabinetry. This keeps the wall tile area smooth and un-interrupted. The Cambria quartz on the kitchen perimeter was installed with a farmhouse hammered copper Sinkology single-well sink and Delta Leland faucet.
This Delta Leland faucet comes with the new ShieldSpray Technology. This diverted spray option delivers a simple way to clean with precision while containing mess and splatter. A concentrated jet of water powers stubborn messes away in the center as a water shield simultaneously contains splatter and clears off the mess. It is like a forcefield around the spray power that keeps water from spraying everywhere. Learn more about ShieldSpray and see it in action here in this short YouTube clip.
Mixing metal finishes and textures can be such a great look in a rustic-styled space. This kitchen includes Oil Rubbed Bronze hardware, lighting, and faucets and a blend of Copper and Stainless. The farmsink is a hammered copper finish and the unique 30″ Zline hood is a mix of smooth copper and black trim. KitchenAid appliances in the Black Stainless finish add drama and a soft texture. If a silvery Stainless seems like it will look too modern in your space, be sure to stop by and see Black Stainless in person! This finish is so versatile and available in a lot of models. We did include on Stainless appliance in the kitchen. Tucked unto the interior corner of the island is a microwave drawer in a true Stainless Steel finish. Mixing metals can be done right and we love the look! Let our team help you with the total vision for your design.

A great kitchen design comes together in the details. Undercabinet molding helps to conceal those lights and outlets. Small details can make a big difference in the look of the overall finished space. In this kitchen the wall tile continues up around the kitchen window and is “capped” off by a valance and matching wooden panel above. The crown molding for the cabinetry has added interest with a change in depth on the corner cabinet.
Want to see more of this kitchen and save ideas for your own project? Check out the full album of photos here on our Best of Houzz-winning profile. This weekend is your final chance to tour the QCBR Spring Parade of Homes listings. We have another peek for you inside one of the properties we had the pleasure of partnering on. This Home in Bettendorf, Iowa from McCoy homes is on trend AND on the market! We love the uniqueness of this home and you will too. Here are a few sneak peeks at it online but you really do need to see it in person this Saturday or Sunday!
Open concept kitchens are the desire for most of our remodel customers. For our new home customers, its is pretty much expected on a print. We 100% understand the appeal of having a home’s kitchen, dining, and living room spaces all sharing the same look feel, and space. The kitchen is no longer the “hub” of the home. In today’s mobile and connected culture, the “hub” is wherever you are at the time. Kitchens and dining spaces are not just for cooking and nosh! They are for entertaining, homework, working from home, and more!
We absolutely love the flow of this open concept kitchen! Village Home Stores provided the cabinetry, countertops, and appliances for this stylish home. White painted cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the Bristol door is painted with a “white” finish on the perimeter and island. The range wall is the focal point of the design. A symmetrical layout of base cabinets and wall cabinets frame in the unique wood hood with a 390 CFMs blower insert and a unique kitchen tile backsplash.
While the surfaces and layout may grab your attention at first, don’t overlook that Stainless Steel range at the center of the wall. This front-control gas range has cast-iron grates that extend across the entire cooktop, giving you the flexibility to place pots and pans anywhere during the cooking process. Plus skip preheating for frozen favorites like pizza and lasagna with Frozen Bake™ technology!
The kitchen island shape is unique and angled like many other details in the home. A double-angled “batwing” curve design hugs the sink and dishwasher at the center of the design. This dishwasher has an AnyWare ™ silverware basket and one hour wash cycle. Plus it is currently on clearance! Shop it here while supplies last.
On the back of the kitchen island we have applied smooth panels and trim in a more modern take for the Farmhouse trend. The island has an overhang with seating for 4 (or more) counter-height barstools. The countertops for this kitchen are a Q Quartz product that gives your the look of marble with the performance of an engineered quartz. Translation: red wine spills wont ruin the party! Village Home Stores also provided the cabinetry and countertops for the bathrooms at this McCoy Homes parade home.
We are completely jealous of whomever gets to have this Master Suite! Farmhouse tile inlay, gray cabinetry with added storage in the countertop tower, and a clever pass through from the master closet to the laundry room (check that out this weekend during the parade). The same Bristol door from the kitchen cabinets is used here with a gray “Fog” paint applied.
If you have a chance to visit the FREE QCBR Spring Parade of Homes this Saturday or Sunday from 1-5pm, be sure to include a stop at this great home from McCoy Homes. We are so thankful Village Home Stores gets to work with so many of the incredible builders in the Quad Cities Region. We thank McCoy Homes for their business and for letting us show you around! Grab info and a map of parade stops here online at the QCBR website. If you have questions about any products you saw at this parade home please don’t hesitate to reach out to our new build team! Call us at (309) 944-1344 or send us a message here online. We cant wait to hear what you are working on!
