Davenport, IA- Warm Cherry Cabinets and Large Black Painted Island

This Davenport, IA kitchen has been completely remodeled to extend its footprint into a nearby dining room. There is now plenty of space for a long L-shaped layout with a large island. Warm Cherry cabinetry from our DuraSupreme line has been installed in the full-overlay  “Kendall” doorstyle and “Clove” finish. A “Black” painted island in the same raised-panel doorstyle offers a bold contrast to the kitchen cabinets and new LVT White Oak flooring.

With the removal of a wall that divided the original kitchen from the dining room taken out, there is now plenty of space for a large kitchen island. The new island measures over 8 feet in length and includes large drawer storage and doors that open to reveal slide-out shelves within. Press play below to watch this entire remodel story unfold on Season 2 Episode 6 of the Village Home Show.

This episode of our show helps to walk you through the entire remodel process from start to finish with us. We often share just the before and after parts of a remodel story… but that is not the whole story at all! This episode allows us to return to the jobsite while the real work is happening. With our show, we are able to give you access to more of the entire story that went behind the beautiful finished kitchen tours we share here on the blog. Take a look at the before and after images from this kitchen below highlighting how much more cabinet space is now available with the center wall removed.Davenport kitchen before and after remodel. | VillageHomeStores.com

Because it can now stretch into the original dining room area, this new kitchen design is nearly double what it once was. There is even an area remaining for a casual dining space with 4 chairs. Just because we have absorbed the original dining room as part of the new kitchen, doesn’t mean this home is left without one. An adjacent front room has now been claimed as the new formal dining room area. The before and after image below shows the view into the new kitchen from this new front room dining area. Dining room becomes part of kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

The window that now sits above the sink was far to low in the original dining room to accommodate a kitchen beneath it. A new window was installed at a taller height and now instead of looking up to a pass-through, the sink user gets a beautiful view! The cabinetry surrounding the new kitchen window has been finished with raised-panel ends for an added design detail. Can lighting is concealed behind a matching cherry valance and a cherry dustcover on the ceiling completes this look.

Beautiful Cambria® Quartz counters in the “Fairborne” design are installed in a standard “Eased” edge profile. A Tumbled Travertine tiled backsplash is a perfect match in tone adding a new texture against the smooth, polished quartz tops. A 50/50 well sink by Blanco in the “Biscotti” finish has been undermounted to the quartz.

The remodel process with Village Home Stores doesn’t begin on that first demo day. Your remodel starts with us in the store during the designing and material selection phases of your project. A wood hood look like the one shown above begins as a full-color rendered design you can see in your first presentation from our store. Renderings help you get a better vision for the finished space including the materials you have selected.

As you will see in the episode, there are plenty of specialty cabinets within this kitchen design. Dura Supreme offers a wide variety of pull-out options including knife blocks, spice racks, and this towel bar cabinet. Keep cleaning supplies accessible but separate from food with one of these unique specialty cabinets. This towel cabinet also works great in a bathroom or laundry room design.

Surrounding the refrigerator is a tall pantry cabinet that has been fit with adjustable slide-out shelving. There is a built-in pantry storage area on the end of the kitchen that is not shown in these images. That pantry can now be used for household items and food storage can be exclusively in this tall unit adjacent to the refrigerator.

The tall pantry is capped off with an open shelf cabinet that faces those entering from the garage-entry end of the kitchen. Applied doors have been attached to the end of this cabinet to sit flush with the pantry doors and customize the look. The shelves can be used to display seasonal decor, cookbooks, or decorative dishes. This design also works well on the end of an island as we have shown in this Moline kitchen tour.

Colona, IL- A Laundry Room With “Loads” of Style

This may be a Laundry Room tour, but don’t miss out on an opportunity to see inspiration here for any space in your home. Every design detail and material selection showcased in this tour translates perfectly into an option for your own kitchen or bath project with Village Home Stores. As we show you around this incredible new spacious multi-purpose room, take note of what grabs your eye. Pardon the unavoidable play on words but there is “loads” of inspiration in this space! Press play below to watch a video tour of this finished space on a recent episode of the Village Home Show.

A spacious new layout for this Laundry Room includes a long wall of storage and countertops divided into three sections. This wall of the design has been designated the “folding wall”, a place to sort, hang, and organize laundry tasks. The dark painted finish shown above is a painted finish from our Durasupreme Cabinetry line. The paint is named “Graphite” shown here on the “Silverton” doorstyle. Cabinetry throughout provides added storage to this hallway room for far more than just laundry items. On the wall opposite is a sink and cabinet area finished in the “Zinc” paint with “Slate” accent glaze. These cabinets surround a Maytag® laundry pair ready to tackle your toughest loads:
laundry pair in Metallic Slate finish by Maytag. | VillageHomeStores.com

This front load Washer and Dryer is in Maytag®’s stylish new Metallic Slate finish and has been raised up onto storage pedestals. With 4.5 cu. ft. capacity in the washer and 7.4 cu. ft. in the dryer, that is enough capacity to clean 29 towels in one load. Maytag is so confident in this laundry pair (manufactured in Ohio) they include a 10-year limited parts warranty on the key components of your investment: The Direct Drive Motor and Stainless Steel Wash Basket on the Washer, and Drive Motor and Drum on the Dryer. This Washer delivers best cleaning in the industry driven by Maytag®’s PowerWash® system, featuring the extra cleaning action of the PowerWash® cycle and an internal heater. Other great features of this laundry pair are:

  • The Fresh Hold® option keeps clean clothes smelling fresh in the washer with an internal fan and tumbling feature that circulates air through clothes for up to 12 hours after the wash cycle ends.
  • An internal heater provides steam and sanitize cycles. Use steam settings on tough stains and remove 99.9% of household bacteria with the high-heat sanitize cycle.
  • Steam settings on the Dryer help to relax and prevent stubborn wrinkles , refresh clothes and reduce static. Learn more about our Maytag® laundry options here at this link.

Elkay dusk gray undermount sink on Cambria Summerhill quartz. | VillageHomeStores.comThe “Summerhill” Cambria quartz design is the perfect compliment to each of the painted cabinet finishes. A standard “Eased” edge is used with no quartz backsplash installed. The sink wall of cabinetry includes a large single bowl undermount sink from Elkay. Elkay’s “Dusk Gray” finish mimics the accent glaze of the cabinets as well as the laundry pair and “Graphite” painted cabinets across the room. While a stainless steel or warm brushed nickel finish would look right at home in this space, polished chrome is a bright and stylish choice. The countertops and textured glass tiles are illuminated by our Diode LED lighting system. We love the little reminder system this homeowner has started using with her Diode lighting. If there is laundry running that will need to be changed over to the dryer, all the lights are turned off but the undercabinet lighting remains on. Since these lights are low-voltage, this system is a cost-effective way to remind her as she walks down the hall that there is laundry to check back on. trashThe sink wall of cabinetry that faces a window is fit with great storage solutions. A pull-out double bin waste basket on one end, and sliding shelves on the other. Also concealed within the top drawer of one of these cabinets is an innovative way to store and access your ironing board. Press play below to see this cabinet reveal and unfold to access this fold-away ironing board feature.

laundryIG4Stylish and interesting, the Adorne series of switches and outlets has been placed throughout this new Laundry Room. This unique system is available from our legrand line and has customization options that are almost limitless. Read more about the Adorne series here in a past blog post about the Master Bathroom in this very same home. The finish shown in this space is the “Satin Nickel” wall plate. The perfect choice against the American Olean textured glass tiles. These “Elegant Crystal” tiles in the “Sand” finish measure 4″ x 12″ long and add texture and dimension to the space.

This series is names “Matrix” and the color is “Azul”. This versatile wall of cabinetry now includes hanging storage, cabinet storage, and a floating drawer area in the center for folding and sorting laundry. Below this counter is space for three rolling laundry carts that can be easily moved from here to the laundry units across the room. folding_counter

Cordova, IL- Rustic Transitional Kitchen Remodel

This Cordova, IL kitchen is a sophisticated approach to the Rustic Transitional style. Rustic Beech cabinetry from our Koch line includes knots and other rustic features and a rich “Chestnut” stain dresses up the space. Solid gray quartz countertops and Stainless Steel appliances complete the look…. and that look is breathtakingly gorgeous! hidden_drawer_cabinet (1)

The “Vicksburg” doorstyle selected is a full-overlay style. This means that the doors and drawer fronts span as far across the cabinet face frames as possible leaving little gap between each cabinet. A great example of this seamless full-overlay style is the pantry area that surrounds the new double drawer refrigerator.

Staggered heights and depths were used to add interest to the large L-shaped layout of wall cabinetry. There are many excellent cabinet storage solutions in this kitchen design. The image below showcases the “X” shaped wine cubbies included. Wine storage and display in the perfect location at the end of the kitchen. The cubbies cap off the wall cabinetry and when entertaining, this leg of the design is perfect to set up as the beverage center.

Many of the specialty storage cabinets are hidden from first glance. You don’t need a pull-out cabinet or borrow space in your pantry cabinet for spices, spice racks can be added to your wall cabinetry. Click the thumbnail below to watch this wall cabinet open up to reveal spice racks installed on the interior of each door.

Of course the best way to optimized the corner of your kitchen is to include a lazy susan cabinet. This kitchen has an all wood susan cabinet in an angled front layout. Replacing the L-shaped susan cabinet with space for a full radius of shelf to turn within.  This is an alternative to the traditional susan shelves that form a “Pac Man” shaped shelf. The same angled front door is repeated in the wall cabinetry above.

You also gain added counter space in the corner when using the angled front style of corner cabinet. Ans speaking of counter space, there is plenty with the new dual-height island design. The built-in cooking center is on the interior side facing the kitchen sink. Tall cabinets form the bar-height side of the island. A overhang on the tops stretches in toward the great room and provide seating for 4 guests.
Two height island in kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

Instead of simply adding a panel that looks like finished cabinet doors, why not make them real doors? At 12″ deep, these full-height door cabinets give a polished look to the back of the island plus add a lot of storage. Extra dishes, bulk items, small appliances, even board games and remotes can all be stored here out of sight but right within reach.
Storage on back of kitchen island. | VillageHomeStores.com

Storage is great but many will also appreciate the construction of these Koch Cabinets. This Cordova, IL kitchen has been ordered from Koch’s Imperial Series of construction. This plywood construction series includes upgraded materials as well as upgraded assembly processes that add to the integrity and longevity of your investment. Koch Imperial Series Cabinetry. | VillageHomeStores.comAll of these upgrades plus option to upgrade your drawer box construction and guides as well as your door hinges to a soft-close option. The 1/2″ plywood sides may also be ordered with applied 1/4″ veneered skins for finished ends. Talk with your designer at Village Home Stores about the cabinet construction upgrades that are available for you and your project. This customer upgraded to full-extension, soft-close drawer guides and soft-close hinges on the doors. A clean built-in look was achieved in the island by including a wall oven with cooktop installed above in place of a slide-in or freestanding unit. This can be done with a gas, electric or induction cooktop. The appliance package selected for this remodel is from the Whirlpool line available at Village Home Stores.
Wall oven with cooktop above. | VillageHomeStores.com

Surrounding the built-in oven are two tray divider cabinets. To the left of the new oven and tray divider cabinets is a large stack of drawers. This unit looks like a two drawer cabinet but behind the top drawer is a hidden third drawer perfect for utensils, lids, or potholders. Click the thumbnail below to see this hidden third drawer cabinet.

Houzz is a fantastic way to organize your project inspiration and even communicate with your designer at Village Home Stores. If you are building or remodeling anytime soon you will want to download this app to your tablet and phone. The adjacent front sitting room area of the home was also given a whole new look. Two sections of wall surrounding the fireplace now have built-in cabinetry that matches the style and finish of the kitchen. Wood countertops in the same “Chestnut” stain help give the units a custom look but set them apart from the kitchen while keeping everything coordinated.  Another detail is the addition of textured water glass inserts inside of the cabinet doors. The freedom to display items within without the exposed shelves to gather dust.

This home has been updated and is almost unrecognizable from where it began. Step in from the front door and the new open kitchen and living spaces looks like a brand new home worthy of a magazine cover feature! Kewanee, IL Remodel: Timeless, Transitional, and Right at Home

This home in rural Kewanee, IL was ready for an update. Modern needs in the space-planning of the design paired with a classic look to match the history and style of the farmhouse. Proof that you can update without “time-stamping” your project, take a look at this beautiful new timeless finished space:
Kitchen remodeled in Kewanee, IL by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

White painted Birch cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the flat-panel “Prairie” doorstyle is the perfect selection to achieve a timeless and transitional look that can be styled a number of ways over the years. Selecting classic choices like this as the more permanent elements to your design gives your finished space a longer life and allows you so many more options over time. The painted white flat-panel door remains to be one of the top-selling cabinet choices throughout ALL regions of the U.S. because it looks right at home in so many spaces. This same cabinet could be in a metropolitan loft yet looks just as perfect in this countryside setting.
Remodeled farmhouse kitchen in Kewanee, IL. | VillageHomeStores.com

Most of the change that happened in the remodel process came with updating the room itself. The entrance from the garage into the kitchen and nearby hallway received new doors. A wall dividing the kitchen from the Living Room was removed and a header was built in the location of the original wall. A single wall removed from the equation and an entire flow and function has been given to the space. New painted white base trim was also installed to surround the layout. The kitchen cabinet layout has been carefully selected to make the most of the limited space available. A previously unused wall has been fit with this custom buffet/sideboard area:
Buffet area in kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

What a beautiful statement area to help separate the kitchen from the dining space while keeping the same look and feel of the overall design. This sideboard area is shallow enough to not crowd the kitchen space. The cabinets below are deep enough to accommodate drawers and offer up a great countertop space for serving and entertaining. The center cabinet has been fit with textured glass and lit with our Diode LED lighting system (more on that later).  Staggered depths and heights of this section of wall cabinets also help give it a customized look. The kitchen has been opened up into the front Living Room and now the entire main level of this Kewanee home is open and bright. With no Formal Dining Room in the home, a small kitchen table was tucked in the corner in the original kitchen. With the dividing wall now removed, the table area seems far less crowded and access to the pantry is easier. Take a look at the before and after of the area where the wall was removed:
Before and After kitchen wall removal. | VillageHomeStores.com

As we mentioned earlier, a header had been planned to go in the same location of the wall being removed. During the remodel process the header was installed and prepared for the plasterer to come in as planned to finish off the look. The more the customer looked at that beam in place, the more she liked the look it gave and the dividing quality it gave from the kitchen to the Living Room. She started searching on Pinterest and found an idea to trim out the opening to suit the look of the home. After showing it to the carpenters from Durian Builders, a quick sketch was drawn up to mimic the design of the valance above the kitchen sink. We think the end result looks even better than the pin!
Pinterest Kitchen Ideas. | VillageHomeStores.com

Repeating design elements like this doorway detail and valance help give a finished space that expert touch. We think this is wonderful detail that helps make this remodeled kitchen look like it has been the kitchen that belonged in this home all along! The original space had soffits that dropped down from the ceiling and a track light system to light the kitchen. The new design has wall cabinets and crown molding that stretch up to the ceiling and can lighting has been placed along the perimeter with a ceiling fan in the center (see  image above). The main L-shape of new kitchen cabinets have been fit with storage solutions like a corner lazy susan, tray divider cabinet, and slide-out shelves near the range.
Koch cabinets. | VillageHomeStores.com

See the full album of over 40 photos from this project (including before photos) over here on our Houzz page. There is plenty of added storage space available in the walk-in pantry. This original pantry on the opposite corner of the kitchen has been fit with a custom walk-through pantry front ordered to match the Koch kitchen cabinets. The pantry area now looks like a part of the kitchen. Now because of the location of the pantry in the now open space, it can act as a pantry and broom closet.
pantry door and flooring

Is hallway envy a thing? We sort of think it may be now. Would wouldn’t love We can’t possibly give you an honest tour of the new kitchen without admitting our own favorite part… the Hickory hardwood floors! With these areas combined into one gorgeous space, the home has been styled beautifully by the customer. This cohesive and styled look and open space showcases the hardwood so well.

Hallmark hardwood flooring in Hacienda Hickory Smoke. | VillageHomeStores.com

The home honestly looks magazine ready and the flooring is the main stage this is all set upon. Hallmark Flooring’s “Hacienda Hickory Smoke” hardwood is now in place in the new kitchen, down the hallway, and through the Living Room. We even installed this same hardwood the the entrance from the garage into the home. The rich dark stain gives the perfect contrast to the white doors, trim, and kitchen cabinetry.

A more subtle detail in the finished kitchen is the use of a glass subway tile for the backsplash. The subway tile shape and pattern are a classic choice and the glass material adds a unique texture and tone to the finished look. Shown here iluminated by our Diode LED undercabinet lighting system, the subtle “Buff” color of these Jeffery Court 3″ x 6″ glass tiles stand out perfectly where a solid white tile might have gotten lost in the white kitchen.
Glass subway tile in a Kewanee, IL kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

Most of the kitchens we featured here on the blog have included this same Diode LED lighting system. We thought we would share with you that this same low-profile series of lighting can be used in so many different applications. In this kitchen we also installed it vertically on the interior of the center glass-door cabinet to light the shelves and glass (see image below). This lighting comes in a variety of styles and can be used indoors and outdoors. Click here to learn more about Diode LED lighting.

The backsplash covers the wall area from cabinet to countertop and what pulls all of the colors together is the Cambria Quartz countertop. The “New Quay” design by Cambria is a palette of soft whites and warm greys. This quartz selection is a neutral choice that will look great for years to come. Plus because Cambria Quartz is one of the most durable surfaces available for residential and foodservice areas, it WILL look great for years to come. Cambria remains to be considered as thought-leaders in the quartz industry and always launch new designs and patterns that are on target with trends.

East Moline Remodel: A Bright and Beautiful Before & After

This East Moline, IL kitchen has been given a whole new look and layout. It is always so amazing when just a few location changes in a layout can make such a big difference for our clients. Look at how bright, beautiful, and inviting this new kitchen is.
East Moline kitchen remodel by Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

Before we show you around the new space let’s look at the “Before” part of this story. Like many kitchens in the area, this original space had soffits above the wall cabinetry. This was the desired look at the time the original kitchen was installed. A peninsula divided the kitchen area from the nearby dining space. A soffit and suspended wall cabinets hung and acted as a visual divider between the two spaces. This layout not only blocks traffic in a very busy area of the home, it also blocks a lot of light and sight from the kitchen into the nearby rooms.
before_photo

The new kitchen layout includes an island centered in the space and removes the peninsula. Now the kitchen, casual dining, and living room areas seem to be all one collective space with a more open concept. island_walkway

A large bi-fold pantry area was native to the original space. This pantry offers a lot of storage without intruding on the pathway from the formal dining room into the kitchen. The new kitchen island was ordered in a finish to best compliment the medium oak stain on the pantry doors and trim.
Oak island kitchen cabinets. | VillageHomeStores.com

Koch Classic’s “Acorn” stain has been applied to a Red Oak wood. There could’t be a better complimentary finish to match the existing woodwork.  The island offers two large drawer stacks with a pull-out waste basket in the center.
wainscot

There is a lot to be said about creating a kitchen design that hosts an island without a sink or cooktop included in it.  Think about how wonderful it would be to always have access to a large clear space to work on any type of project throughout the day. Including an Engineered Quartz countertop as the worksurface in the kitchen makes it a non-porous and durable surface to work on as well. This color is called “Paydirt” from our Klondike series of quartz. A “Beveled” edge profile has been applied to the quartz. The cooking zone of the kitchen design is home to a freestanding slide-in gas range with convection and microwave hood by Whirlpool®.
5-burner slide-in gas range in stainless steel. | VillageHomeStores.com

Replacing the older installation style that required a “sill” or “brace” of countertop behind the unit, these new ranges look sleek and built-in. The new freestanding models include front controls on the electric and gas units and a full-depth construction so they rest flush against the back wall. Your current freestanding range can be replaced with one of these units for a customized look. Any standard 30″ wide opening can accommodate one.
5 burner gas cooktop by Whirlpool. | VillageHomeStores.com

Even with a standard 30″ wide unit, a 5-burner cooktop can be included. Full-width cast iron grates allow you to easily slide pots and pans from one burner to another. The grates are dishwasher safe, and their satin finish resists wear and tear. Read more about some of the incredible features (like rapid preheat) and sleek new design of these full-depth ranges here on a previous blog post. The backsplash tile in this new kitchen draws your attention immediately. Travertine 3″ x 6″ tumbled tile in a natural “Light Noche” color from Daltile has been paired with a deco line of Peitra Art’s  “Bliss Cappuccino” tiles:
tile_backsplash

travertine_tileTake note that tumbled stone tiles like this Travertine can be installed and grouted to have two different finished looks. You can leave the natural characteristics of the tiles showing (shown to the right) or choose to fill in the gaps and crevasses with your grout. Be sure to discuss the finished look you are after with your tile installer before they begin the project. The texture and style that this backsplash adds to the finished space is showcased by our Diode LED undercabinet lighting system. We have found that this lighting system is a key element to a successful finished remodel project. Our customers are always so glad that they included it in their design. Even during the daytime hours, it is difficult to imagine this kitchen without that backsplash and countertop getting the lighting they deserve. Press play below to see how lost the tile looks when the lights turn off.

The Project Management team replaced the original kitchen window with a new double-hung unit. The main perimeter cabinetry for the kitchen is a bright painted finish called “Pearl”. An “Umber” highlight glaze has been applied to the “Seneca” doorstyle. Soffits have been removed and the new wall cabinets stretch all the way to the ceiling with crown molding applied at the top. This grants more available storage space in the wall cabinets and an updated look.
East Moline kitchen remodel. | VillageHomeStores.com

The new layout feels far less cramped now that the peninsula doesn’t cut off the kitchen from the rest of the room. It is as though the same counter space from the original kitchen peninsula has been shifted into an island top that is now easier to access and use for many tasks. The kitchen sink on the perimeter of the kitchen is an under-mounted model by Blanco in a “Truffle” finish. A 50/50 split layout (shown below) is just one of the many options you have available to choose from when selecting an under-mount sinks.
Blanco sink truffle color. | VillageHomeStores.com

The island has been finished off with an applied door look on each end and spanning the full back panel side of the island. That same treatment has been applied to the refrigerator end panel that caps off the end of the new kitchen. This end treatment option creates such a polished and customized look. A smooth end panel would not give the opportunity for any of the highlight glaze to be applied. With the sunlight that pours in from a set of french doors next to it, this paneled look is a perfect detail!
Refrigerator end panel. | VillageHomeStores.com

The refrigerator was moved to this new location from the opposite corner. Now the cooking center is open and not crowded. There is plenty of landing space to load and unload the refrigerator. New flooring was installed in the living room and the new kitchen. Luxury Vinyl Tile by Mannington called “Corsica Cavern” perfectly ties all of the kitchen finishes together and warms up the space. LVT gives you the look of ceramic tile but a softer surface to work on and warmer to your bare feet. Learn more about LVT here on a previous blog post.

Atkinson, IL- Four Bath Looks in One New Home

The best thing about showcasing a new home to you is that we have the opportunity to show you so many examples of what our customers are selecting for their spaces all from the same project. In this Atkinson, IL home built by Evergreen Custom Homes we are able to show you four beautiful bathroom spaces each with their own look and concept.

Master Bath:
Master Bathroom ideas. | VillageHomeStores.com

Cherry cabinetry from our Koch Classic line has been installed in the same doorstyle and finish as the kitchen we featured in our last postThis flat-panel style of door is so versatile. The Master Bath design is a warm zen look using earthtones and a variety of textures. The main wall of cabinets in the Master has been arranged in a variety of depths and heights to give a unique and customized look.
Master bathroom ideas. | VillageHomeStores.com

There are two sink vanity areas divided by a window and bench in the center of the wall. Against each corner rests the tallest base cabinet. A wall cabinet above is installed all the way down to the countertop surface. The sink bases have been ordered at a shorter height so that once the vessel sink is in place, the height is just right for a user to operate and utilize the vanity.
Storage bench in bathroom. | VilageHomeStores.com

A large window at the center of the wall is installed at just the right height to leave enough space below for a bench with storage. The same Cambria “Hampshire” quartz has been installed here as the top to the bench. Quartz is a fantastic choice for bathroom counters because you get the look of a natural stone but never have to worry about maintenance. Quartz is a man-made and non-porous material so no products you will be using in the bathroom can penetrate or damage the material at all.

On the opposite wall is the mirror image of the vanity area we shared earlier. This image below shows you the variety of depths used in the design as well. Every time the height of a cabinet changes, the depth does as well. This adds interest and also allows for enough space for the Cambria counters to have an overhang on the front of the cabinets.

The custom tiled shower in this Master Bath is one of our favorite features of the new home. Dual rain shower heads and a lot of space make it enviable to anyone who sees it. Custom showers allow you to truly make the most of the available space. You are able to locate the entrance and fixtures wherever you would like them. The custom glass door is not the only chance for natural light to pass into the shower. A half-wall has been placed right by the entrance and a panel of glass is fixed to the wall granting a more open feeling to the user and more access to the overall light in the room.
Custom tiled drain. | VillageHomeStores.comTile shelf in shower recessed. | VillageHomeStores.comOf course your could just install the same series of tile throughout in a custom tiled shower…. but what’s so custom about that? That is why these clients worked closely with their design team at Village Home Stores to select a variety of tiles to create a great finished look that helps to tie the entire Master Bath space together. Speaking of custom, even the shower drain has been customized. This square unit can be tiled to match your design perfectly. The 2″ x 2″ “Emperador Dark” marble tile used for this shower floor is the perfect compliment to the Cambria “Hampshire” quartz counters installed on the vanity tops and bench seat. A sill piece of Cambria is used at the entrance to the shower and as a ledge on the half-wall. The mosaic tile was even used to add a design detail as a transition from the 12″ x 24″ StonePeak “Limestone Honey” floor tiles into the walk-in closet and bedroom of the Master Suite. mosaic tile as transition. | VillageHomeStores.com

Powder Room:

Located on the first floor of this home is the Powder Room. Powder Rooms are the perfect spaces to showcase your personal style and really try something different. This will be the Bath used by your guests so make a memorable first impression with your selections for the space. These clients worked with their designers at Village Home Stores and selected a statement bath vanity and paired it with a unique vessel bowl.

Vessel sink vanity. | VillageHomeStores.comThe “Graphite Grey” paint has been applied to Bertch Bath’s Interlude Series cabinetry. This 30″ vanity has a Transitional style and furniture look with square legs attached to the vanity. A bottom-drawer configuration allows plumbing access behind the doors above and added storage below for toilet paper, towels, or any other items needed in the Powder Room. Vessel bowls continue to be a great way to add style to a bathroom space. The Master Bath featured above also included vessel sinks but in a brighter and smoother material. The Powder Room vessel has a dark and dramatic look that is complimented by the grey cultured marble slab top  with dark black veining movement.

Lower Level Bath:

The Lower Level of the home includes a large bathroom with vanity, linen cabinet, and cultured marble top. “Cultured Marble” is a general term for bathroom vanity tops that are formed by pouring a material into a mold to create a surface. A current trend in vanity tops like this is to give the look of an under-mounted bowl to a granite or quartz top. At first glance this top looks a lot like a quartz one… but take a step closer and see that it is a cultured marble vanity top similar to those we have been installing for decades and decades. bathroom ideas | VillageHomeStores.com

Many times the bowl is integrated into this surface and by simply adding a white or off-white color for the bowl, the illusion of an under-mount sink is achieved. The Onyx Collection is one of our top-selling marble top products. They also can make custom shower bases and walls in addition to many other bathroom products. Onyx Collection bathroom vanity top. | VillageHomeStores.com

With many colors and styles to select from plus the option to customize your vanity or shower project, this Midwest-based company is a great option for your bathroom. Current trends within these cultured marble vendors is to have more flecked patterns similar to a quartz look. The top shown in this Lower Level Bath is the “Genesis” color in a gloss finish. These cultured tops can be ordered in a standard gloss finish or with a matte finish.

Upstairs Bath:

This Upstairs Bath is home to a vanity that matches the Master Bath shown above. There is another custom tiled shower in this bath that we wanted to showcase in this blog post. This Upstairs Bath shower is the same size and configuration of a standard tub/shower commonly found in a bathroom this size. In this space is a great new opportunity to create a custom area with a lot of textures and style. Honed Travertine tile fills up most of this shower. A shower head and handheld unit are located above the controls at the entrance to the shower. shower

shower_ledgeThe smooth texture of the Travertine tiles is a great contrast to the pebbled floor of the shower. Flat pebble tiles by Pietra Art add a fun texture in appearance and experience. Bare feet get a massage every time you use the shower. The same pebble tile is used as an accent stripe vertically on the back wall. A bench seat has also been installed and tiled into the corner of shower.

Geneseo, IL Remodel- Rustic Beech Kitchen

This kitchen remodel was done by a homeowner in Geneseo, IL with design and materials coming from Village Home Stores. The original kitchen included a wall that divided the kitchen from the dining area. With the wall now removed, the new space is full of light and space. Now in place of the wall is a peninsula of cabinetry and countertop that has quickly become a favorite place for visiting grandchildren. main

silestone sierra madre quartz. | VillageHomeStores.comOne of the sure signs that this peninsula is the place to be in this new kitchen is a plate of treats awaiting guests. What grandchild (or visiting Village Home Stores employee) can resist pulling up a stool to chat or help out in this great new space. The countertops selected for this remodel are by Silestone Quartz in “Sierra Madre”. Added piece of mind is that Silestone includes Bacteriostatic Protection  which means silver ions are included in the quartz to prevent the propagation of bacteria.  A perfect added value to this selection since this new peninsula area is ideal for for preparation and serving. Can’t you just picture a “gaggle” or grandchildren all gathered at this top making Christmas cookies? An outlet has been installed at the very end of the peninsula for small appliances or even a laptop or tablet can be plugged in if used as a desk.

With all of those guests and a bright new space to enjoy, these homeowners better stock up on some snacks! There is plenty of places to store them within the pantry zone of the new kitchen design. The wall that is home to the refrigerator is also where you will find a wide pantry cabinet.

Three adjustable-height sliding trays of storage plus a stationary shelf above that allow full access to the lower section. The trays are a very versatile way to use the space and extend out to allow the user to see everything within. Above is a 24″ deep space for appliances or bulk items. Click play to watch this cabinet and all of the trays in animated form. We love the addition of baskets to the slideout trays! This kitchen was so full of great storage we had to include it on a storage-themed episode of our local TV show. Watch that full episode here to see the full details tour of this great remodel!

Two incredible kitchen remodels both featuring storage solutions perfect for each home. It is amazing how something as basic as adding sliding shelves can help you enjoy and use your kitchen space more. Don’t miss out on the oportunity to fill your cabinets with the best storage potential possible.

Believe it or not this tall pantry cabinet is not the only great pantry storage section in the new kitchen. Just down the wall is a walk-through corner pantry front with a glass-door display cabinet to the right. Corner pantry cabinet in kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

Ordered to match the “Seneca Briarwood”  Rustic Beech cabinetry from our Koch Classic line, this front and two panels were used to assemble the corner area. The homeowner even installed a motion-sensitive light on the interior so that when the pantry doors are opened, the lights turn on. After just a few minutes they automatically turn off. Walk-through pantry fronts are fantastic because you can truly customize your shelving behind them any way you would like. Click play to see the pantry!

While we didn’t do any of the install work for this kitchen, we knew the project was in great hands by a VERY skilled carpenter (who has installed countless projects for our customers). Wait until you see some of the extra work that he put into making this kitchen completely customized for them. This display cabinet with mullioned glass doors got an extra custom detail added to the interior shelves.glass cabinet shelvesThe center section of the finished shelves was routed out to accommodate tempered glass inserts. Now the light installed at the top of these cabinets can pass through the glassware AND the shelves completely! Across from the pantry storage zones of the kitchen is the main prep area of of the kitchen. The sink, dishwasher and cooking areas are all found here.sink

koch all wood susan corner cabinet. | VillageHomeStores.comEach of the base cabinets on this wall is full of fantastic storage solutions perfect for any kitchen. The corner of the peninsula includes a lazy susan cabinet to access the entire corner space for storage. Note that there is no center pole in this susan design. Instead, a fixed center shelf has a susan resting directly on it. The base cabinet to the right of this susan is a space designed for storing baking sheets and cutting boards. Instead of the expected metal or wood center divider, a slide-out tray is installed. Because the walls of this tray are tall, nothing will tumble out  when you pull one from the cabinet.slideing tray divider cabinet. | VillageHomeStores.com

pull out trash cabinet. | VillageHomeStores.comPull-out trash cabinets have officially moved from the “specialty” cabinet category and have instead become so expected of any new design we rarely sell a space that doesn’t include one. Many times we are even installing more than one. The double-bin option allows you to sort recycling at the time you are cleaning up. At the very end of the peninsula area is wide stack of drawers. The top section has been ordered with two top drawers in place of one wide drawer.two top drawers in cabinet. | VillageHomeStores, com

Wood silverware dividers have been added to the right top drawer. Deep drawers below offer a lot of extra storage. Many items are now available right within reach of this great new prep space. The tile backsplash in this kitchen is a subway tile in an “Almond” color by Daltile. The mosaic insert is called “Rocky Beach” by Glazzio. offwhite subway tiles. | VillageHomeStores.com

The field tile is bright and the mosaic is the perfect blend of colors that can be found throughout the new kitchen. Our Diode LED undercabinet lighting helps showcase this tile. The main sink wall of the new kitchen includes a new Whilrpool range and microwave hood. This range is a front-control electric range with convection oven. We love how the front-control design allows for a smooth and sleek area where the range meets the backsplash. Whirlpool front control stove. | VillageHomeStores.com

This Whirlpool unit comes with the new Frozen Bake™ feature. Read more about this timesaving feature on this past blog post. Above this range is a combination microwave hood also from Whirlpool. With 400 CFMs and 2.0 cu. ft. of interior capacity it is a great choice! The surrounding cabinet design is eye-catching from all entrances into the new kitchen. Whirlpool microwave hood combination. | VillageHomeStores.comFluted details on either side of the hood are the perfect place to catch the “Black” accent glaze that has been applied to these cabinets. This accent glaze is also a great way to help allow the design to combine Stainless Steel appliances with Oil-Rubbed Bronze cabinet hardware. The accent glaze highlights the door details and even the rustic knots found in the wood. The dark finish of the hardware is right at home with this combination. Dark Hickory flooring adds extra drama to the overall look.hickory hardwood dark finish. | VillageHomeStores, com

This Hickory hardwood floor from our Hallmark Flooring line is stunning in person. The dark contrast to the cabinets looks rich and the “Sagebrush” finish is perfectly at home with the accented Rustic Beech cabinets. One of our favorite parts of the new kitchen isn’t even a cabinet! We must also point out the handwork by this homeowner in this chalkboard area he created.

custom chalkboard. | VillageHomeStores.comHe used just a few pieces of Rustic Beech trim to create a custom magnetic chalkboard area on the refrigerator wall. The lower section of molding even can hold a piece of chalk. What a great way to “extend” the cabinetry finish into a functional piece right between the kitchen and the dining areas. Bettendorf Remodel: Upgraded and Upscale

titleThis kitchen remodel in Bettendorf, Iowa is a great example of how you can get your dream kitchen while being budget-conscious.  This amazing transformation came about by making smart choices on where to make upgrades within the project. Take a look at where this kitchen began before you see the finished look.

before2Rich dark cabinetry, quartz countertops, Stainless Steel appliances, an undermounted sink it is all here! While getting your dream kitchen may be something you do once in a lifetime, that doesn’t mean that you have to keep that project off in the distance.java_finish

Our designer from Village Home Stores worked closely with these customer to help them stay within their budget and select the perfect materials and make upgrades in the right places to end up with this upscale look.pantry

Before we look at some of those upgrades lets take a look at the structural changes made to this kitchen. The original kitchen included a wall of cabinetry that surrounded a range and hood unit. This wall divided the kitchen from the Living Room area.

kitchen remodel before and after. | VillageHomeStores.comWe began by opening up this wall to include the new kitchen with the living areas of the home. Removing this wall and all of the soffits above made such a huge difference in the finished kitchen. The birdseye view of the new kitchen design (below) shows how a new bar-height top fits into the newly opened kitchen plan. birdseye_view

Relocating the sink and range locations represented some of the design choices made to get the best working layout for the now open room. Keeping appliances in their original locations can help when you are trying to keep within a project budget. But this is one design upgrade that was worth it. Now that this kitchen opens up into this great room there is no better place for the sink than right here. Dark Java stained kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

Moving the kitchen sink to this new spot facing the guest areas of the home was a great choice. Let’s now take a look at some of the amazing upgrades made to get this upscale look beginning with this sink.black_sink

An undermounted sink is such a desirable element of a kitchen. If you have ever had one I am sure you would not be easily convinced to go back to a drop-in style. Wiping the counters clean with a single swipe into the sink is a huge benefit. The kitchen sink happens to be an Elkay composite granite sink so it is just as durable as it is beautiful. This matte-finished black sink is mounted to beautiful new counters.quartz

Quartz countertops in a kitchen we are boasting is budget-conscious?!? Yes! We currently have a series of Quartz countertops at an incredible price in your choice of 9 colors including this popular “Tundra” color. Let us price this Quartz for your project. You will be pleasantly surprised by the numbers you will see especially if you have been shopping high-end laminate options or solid-surfaces. Before we get to the cabinetry let us look down to the flooring for another upgrade made that was no extra cost at all.

A 1/4 turn tile pattern for your kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.comThis Luxury Vinyl Tile, or “LVT” as we call it, has been installed in a 1/4 turn pattern. A basic pattern would have also looked great with this “Linea” Cream Mannington LVT, but this extra detail sets it off. The pattern of the LVT and the direction changes create a basketweave look and add an eyecatching result with no extra material required. Read more about LVT in this past blog post.

Microwave cabinet. | VillageHomeStores.comSoft-close hinges. | VillageHomeStores.comCabinetry represents such a significant portion of any kitchen project. Our Koch Express line was selected for this project. The “Lexington” doorstyle in the rich Birch “Java” finish has been upgraded with soft-close, dovetailed drawers and even soft-close hinges on the doors.

Our Koch Express line can also be paired with certain pieces from our Koch Classic line.  That is how the angled end cabinet upgrade was made to the end of this wall of cabinetry.  This angled look gives a visual upgrade from the expected square ends available from Koch Express.

Angled end cabinets. | VillageHomeStores.comThe glass tile backsplash was also a beautiful material selection for the kitchen.
