Moline, IL Kitchen Remodel Finds Room For Style and a Small Island

This Moline, IL home was ready for a new kitchen look and layout. There were no major changes as far as moving appliances or even removing soffits. Rich new finishes were selected, storage was added, and room for a small kitchen island was found. Koch cabinetry in the flat-panel Savannah door and Birch wood stained Chestnut is a perfect compliment to the existing woodwork in the home.  Moline Illinois kitchen with Nevasca Mist granite, Koch Cabinetry, luxury vinyl floors, and mosaic tile. The main wall of cabinetry is found on the sink wall of the kitchen. A range is centered on a nearby wall with landing space on each side.  With plenty of walkway space surrounding it, a kitchen island is an important part of the new design! Prepping for a meal and coming home with a load of groceries just got a lot easier for this household. This two-cabinet island is a very functional part of the new layout. Perfectly located for prep, back door entry, and even space for seating! The added storage and work surface this island brings to the new kitchen is so important. The island top is also the best place to see the stunning granite selected for the kitchen. Moline Illinois kitchen with Nevasca Mist granite and Koch Cabinetry remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

One of the exciting parts of choosing granite for your remodel project in the Quad Cities is that we have a local source for you to select your material from! This can be a very interesting way to make a personal connection with your design. Epic Stone is located in Davenport, Iowa and there you can walk the aisles of slabs and help decide what you are drawn to. Your designer at Village can then partner with our fabricators to make sure the stone you hand-select makes the journey from Epic, to the fabrication shop, and then finally into your home. Learn more about Epic Stone here in a past blog post. This Moline, IL customer selected a stone named “Nevasca Mist” and it is a beautiful blend of warm grays and beiges.

So much great storage and functionality added to the kitchen with this small island. We also love the flooring selected for the new space. These may appear to be 12″ x 24″ ceramic tiles but no grout lines! That is because they are actually luxury vinyl tiles. Our Tarkett Premiere line can be installed with or without grout. This kitchen showcases a neutral color named “Onyx Travertine Silver” and the look is great. Moline Illinois kitchen with Koch cabinetry in Birch wood and Chestnut finish remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.comThe appliances were updated recently in this kitchen but we did make an adjustment to the microwave hood area of the layout. A smooth panel was installed above the microwave area to match the look of the drawerboxes in the kitchen. We added to the soffit depth on this side of the kitchen to allow the small crown molding to be installed and now the wall cabinet section has a full, customized surround look.

Across the kitchen was an area put to better use in the new design. The new kitchen island now can be a landing zone for back door entry. Instead of a base and wall cabinet combination, a tall pantry cabinet now offers so much storage space and a customized look to the stand-alone section of the kitchen. Moline Illinois kitchen tall pantry cabinet in a Birch wood and Chestnut finish remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

If you peek at the before and after image below, you will notice there wasn’t exactly a lot of backsplash space in the “before” kitchen. Tall wall cabinets were installed beneath existing soffits leaving only half of the expected space you would want for that area. If you look at the “after” side of the image, you will see a more comfortable suggested space of 18″.

It truly lets the tile choice in the new kitchen to be showcased. The tile and granite selections together are just perfect! The mosaic tile seems to have been made just for this pairing! Glazzio’s Closseum Series in the Caesar Beige color looks incredible! The granite and tile are splendidly showcased by our bestselling Diode LED lighting system.Moline kitchen with Nevasca Mist granite and Glazzio Colosseum series tile. This Diode LED lighting system is such a wise investment and every customer that has it installed is so happy with it. It is low-voltage, and low-profile leaving you with so many options for installation. Of course undercabinet lighting is our most popular use. Because of their low power use, these lights are perfect if you like to keep a night-light on on the evening or like to have lights on waiting for you when you arrive home. The Diode lights can also be dimmable shown below on one of our legrand radiant collection paddle switch sets:Moline Illinois kitchen with legrand Radiant paddle switches and outlets. Old homes are just so much fun to remodel because you honestly never know what unique feature you will stumble upon! In this Moline home there was a laundry chute located on the left wall of the kitchen sink area.  While the homeowner wasn’t planning on using it for laundry, he did find a fun use. Voila! a recycling chute! He keeps a plastic bin down below to collect cans and sends them down when he is finished. We think Alice in Wonderland would find it a “curiously” custom solution and definitely a conversation starter. Moline Illinois kitchen with small custom door, Koch cabinetry in Birch wood and Chestnut finish remodeled from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

Alpha, IL – White and Gray Kitchen With Hidden Laundry

We included this kitchen before and after story in an episode of the Village Home Show. See a full video tour of this space by pressing play.

Village Home Stores understands the importance of the home you create for you and your family. Deciding when is the right time to downsize or remodel your home is an important step for any homeowner. Many of our customers that use our Complete Project Management Process are interested in investing in changes to their homes to help them age-at-home more comfortably and happily. There are many remodel changes you can make to a bathroom to help allow you to age at home, but the kitchen is another great location for these investments in your home happiness. Just look at this bright and spacious remodeled kitchen in Alpha, Illinois:
Kitchen remodel in Alpha, IL with painted Dura Supreme cabinetry and Cambria quartz. | villagehomestores.com

This remodel involved building out an addition to the home of about ten feet in depth and twenty feet in length. The original kitchen was small and very limited in counterspace and storage. Squeezing a small table in the kitchen and having the garage entry right in the kitchen, created a busy and crowded room.

We were so thrilled to design a more functional and beautiful space for these sweet customers. Plus we were able to put them at ease with our step-by-step process because Village Home Stores coordinated it all! Estimating, designing, delivery, and installation plus the many subcontractors on site where scheduled by our Project Management team. Our process helps to keep your project on track and on budget.

The new kitchen is bright, spacious, and super functional! Instead of the original U-shaped layout with peninsula, the new kitchen is an L-shape with a single-level island and a long section of new storage cabinetry across the room. The added space from the home addition helped to transform the small kitchen into a new room that can be used as a kitchen, dining room, drop zone, home office, and even laundry room! Kitchen remodel in Alpha, IL with Linen White and Zinc painted Dura Supreme cabinetry and Cambria quartz. | villagehomestores.com

That’s right! An incredible home office desk area is just across the room from the new kitchen. A wall-mounted TV and banjo-shaped countertop for a seated desk area helps to use every inch of space available. The light fixture you see hanging above indicates where the new casual dining table will be located.

But why TWO tall pantry cabinets for this couple? Well… that’s the laundry room we mentioned! These pantry fronts have been ordered to match the new kitchen but open to reveal a brand new pair of front-load laundry from our Maytag line!

Remodeling to include laundry in a more convenient and accessible area of your home is a fantastic feature anyone at any age or ability can appreciate. Any time you can place laundry in a main level of a home, you create a safer user experience. Plus no bending over or lifting because each unit is installed on top of a raised pedestal for easier loading and unloading.

(Pardon the cute dog “photobomb” above in the left corner) So much capacity in the laundry pair plus great storage in this hidden laundry area. The pedestals are actually drawers that slide open for detergent storage and even small laundry baskets can fit within. Above the laundry are two deep sections of pantry storage perfect for bulk items. There is even a broom closet cabinet between the laundry and desk area.

Another age-at-home feature that can be appreciated by users of any age and ability is a raised dishwasher. Who loves to bend down to load an unload a dishwasher? Nobody! Raising it up to a more comfortable height can be a design choice you are thankful for on a daily basis. This KitchenAid dishwasher is super quiet at just 46 dba and even has a third level rack for washing utensils, cutlery, and lids.

The cabinetry in this kitchen is from our Dura Supreme line in the Full-Overlay Hudson door and painted “Linen White” finish. The center panels of the hood cabinet have been given a beaded panel to compliment the beaded back of the kitchen island. The island cabinetry is painted in a “Zinc” gray finish. Our bestselling Diode LED undercabinet lighting helps to illuminate the new kitchen backsplash and switches and outlets from our stylish Adorne series by legrand. The main tile is a 3×6 subway tile in a brick lay pattern with and accent strip at the center. The fun accent tile is by Florida Tile and is Streamline Ivy series in the Shadow Gray color.

There is great storage throughout the new kitchen layout. Below is a photo showing our bestselling corner cabinet option, a lazy susan without center pole. Fixed shelves with rotating susan trays allow sturdy access to the full corner. This client has their pots and pans stored right in reach of the new gas range.

Whirlpool’s front-control gas range is a sleek and functional model. This unit includes convection features and 5.8 cu.ft. of capacity in the oven. The rack systems inside of our ovens have improved so much over the years to help you use the space better. Ask you appliance salesperson at Village Home Stores to show you the inside layout of the range you are shopping with us. You will be surprised at how usable the space can be.

A shelf microwave is placed in a tall cabinet and a wood hood with blower insert is above the new range. Ask your kitchen designer about all of the hood options you have for your new kitchen design. Not everyone has to do a chimney style or microwave hood. We have many options available.  Kitchen remodel in Alpha Illinois with Stainless Steel Appliances from Village Home Stores. | VillageHomeStores.com

One of our favorite storage cabinets in the new kitchen is a spice rack that can open and be accessed right from the user at the range. Dura Supreme has hundreds of great storage solutions available. If you have a specific item or small appliances that you want to include as a part of your kitchen design just ask! We can help keep you organized and your counters clear of clutter with a well-planned design.

A counter depth refrigerator model is always a great way to keep a kitchen plan open and pathways clear. This french door model from Whirlpool is great with an internal water dispenser and incredible interior shelf storage. We just love how the Stainless Steel finish looks in this bright white and gray kitchen.

A counter-depth refrigerator model, along with the added space from the room addition allowed us to provide generous pathway allowances between the kitchen counters and the new kitchen island. As you can see below, there is about a 45″ distance in this L-shape of pathway within the kitchen. Kitchen remodel with painted Dura Supreme cabinetry and Cambria quartz in the Berwyn design are featured. Materials and remodel project management from start to finish by Village Home Stores. | villagehomestores.com

The countertop edge itself adds an element of style to the new kitchen. An “Ogee” edge profile has been applied to Cambria Quartz in the Berwyn design.  This edge profile is always impressive in person because the light catches the edge as you walk in and around the kitchen. The Ogee edge is a great way to dress up a subtle or neutral colors countertop.  The radius corners and overhang curve of the island top help to soften the look of the space.

There is a wonderful new kitchen island in the new design. Plenty of seating on the back side for two plus great storage facing the inside of the kitchen. Two large drawer stacks with some including an adjustable pegboard dish storage interior. For some, this is a great way to store dishes and bowls. It allows you a more comfortable way to lift up from a drawer and not down from a high wall cabinet. Kitchen remodel with painted Dura Supreme cabinetry and Cambria quartz in the Berwyn design are featured. Peg drawer insert. | VillageHomeStores.com

We also included an outlet on the end of the kitchen island. This makes it easier for small appliance use or even plugging in laptops or chargers if a user is seated at the island. Between the two large drawer stacks is a narrow spice drawer cabinet. These drawers may look cute and decorative to you but they can be very functional! This client had one dedicated to medications and vitamins and another for toys and goodies for the grandkids.

All of these gorgeous new finishes and design changes make life more comfortable for everyone in the home, including these two sweet pups. They love their new Permastone luxury vinyl flooring from our Tarkett line. 6 x 48″ planks in the Tundra finish are perfect for laying in a sunbeam and watching birds and wildlife outside their new sliding glass door.

Rock Island, IL- A Kitchen Customized But Not Resized!

Village Home Stores is completely capable of having a wall removed or opened up to create a beautiful new space for your kitchen. Many of our full project management remodel projects involve some kind of wall work like that….but not every project. This Rock Island, IL kitchen remodel is a wonderful example of how you do not need to make drastic changes to the room to still get a winning result!
Pearl painted cabinetry in a remodeled Rock Island Kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

This kitchen was remodeled and only the soffits above the cabinetry were removed. But seeing the before and after transformation you would think this was an entirely different home! The original kitchen was a medium tone wood and crowded by a small peninsula area.
Before and after of a remodeled kitchen in Rock Island, IL. | VillageHomeStores.com

The new kitchen is bright and beautiful. Painted cabinetry from our Koch Classic line in the “Prairie” door and “Pearl” finish is paired with “Chakra Beige” quartz counters. Not only is the kitchen light and bright, its packed with smart storage solutions!

Behind any of the base cabinet doors you can find adjustable slide-out shelving to help easily utilize every inch of cabinet space. Of course the corner cabinet includes a lazy susan for the best way to access the corner. This style of susan is called an “all wood susan” or “super susan” style. A fixed center shelf with a susan tray attached allows a sturdy construction.

Not only are there special inserts in the cabinetry, there are some custom additions. The stack of drawers to the left of the dishwasher includes a pullout cutting board. This option is a wonderful feature to add to your kitchen space. The cutting board can be removed completely for use or cleaning.

We love the coffee station in the new kitchen. This area near the refrigerator is the perfect breakfast station including coffee and the toaster. Below the counter is a Stainless Steel microwave drawer. This 24″ wide unit from Sharp has a flip out front control and blends well with many appliance brands and styles.

Of course a tall and wide pantry is the fastest way to add great storage to a kitchen. This new layout includes a large pantry with slide-out shelves. Now pantry storage items are within reach of fresh food storage. Keeping this tall pantry next to the refrigerator helps to keep the rest of the kitchen seem less crowded and more open.

Not every kitchen design includes the kitchen sink beneath a window. In this case, the sink area has been accented with a lighted glass-front cabinet above and a tile accent. The Soho 3′ x 6″ Subway Tile in “Linen” color and glossy finish is accented with a strip of glass mosaic.

Adding a lighting plan to this new kitchen also help brighten the space dramatically! Not only are there recess cans throughout, but also a lighted ceiling fan. Our Diode LED undercabinet lighting system is installed underneath the cabinetry and also inside the glass-front cabinets. This low-profile and low-voltage light system is always a favorite feature for those that have it!A Rock Island, IL kitchen with Diode lighting underneath the cabinets and inside of glass-front cabinets. | VillageHomeStores.com

The casual dine-in area on the end of the kitchen has just enough room for a small round table and chairs. Instead of a shallow tv stand, this client asked to have a custom hutch area created to match the new kitchen. Not only is there plenty of space for a TV but also display space, storage below and even wine cubbies on each end!

Galesburg, IL- Galley Kitchen Packed With Storage and Style

Before we tour this new kitchen, take a look at one of the before images of this home in Galesburg, IL. A “Galley” kitchen layout means that there are two parallel walls of cabinetry in a design. This kitchen has one wall that is home to the sink and refrigerator, and another that includes the range and hood. A window is located on the wall that connects the two. Ready for an update, and in need of added storage but wait… that brick looks pretty cool right? Spoiler alert: it stays!

before

The new design will more than double the available wall cabinet storage and unitize the base cabinets to their fullest. All of the wall cabinetry will also now stretch to the ceiling and be finished off with an angled crown molding.  The original brick on this wall will become a part of the design. What a unique and fun textured element for this kitchen!
Kitchen designer Galesburg, IL | VillageHomeStores.com

In place of a stand-alone range hood, this new hood option is mounted and surrounded by cabinetry. A suite of appliances from our Maytag® line are dependable and stylish. Full Stainless Steel kitchen appliances are not for everyone’s personal taste. A sleek, black finish with Stainless Steel accents give a great alternative to an all Stainless kitchen here. The new range includes 6.2 cu. ft. of oven capacity inside and has convection features. This range was designed, engineered, and assembled in the U.S.A. and like all new Maytag® models it comes with a 10 Year Limited Parts Warranty.  Shop appliances from Village Home Stores here online.

Rustic Beech cabinetry in the “Stone” stain is from our Koch Classic line. The raised-panel door is named Hastings. We absolutely love kitchen remodeling because you are truly searching for the best working solution for an existing space. It is a challenge we are always excited to accept. There is no way to add to the overall width of this kitchen. Instead, the space must be used as best as it can be. How you fill a space with cabinets depends on the needs of who will be using it. Including large drawers and slideouts for storage was the best solution for this space.

Slideout shelves in galesburg kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.comA Luxury Vinyl Tile from our Tarkett Permastone® series has been installed in a 12″ x 24″ sized tile. The color is named Sandstone Maui Sand.  Luxury Vinyl (LVT) is a great product for a kitchen area. Permastone® is made in the U.S.A. and comes with a Lifetime Limited Residential Warranty. It can be installed grouted or ungrouted. This Permastone® product was also recently ranked #1 by a leading consumer magazine, receiving excellent ratings in every flooring category and best vinyl flooring out of 12 different products. Surrounding the range on each side are large stacks of drawers perfect for pots and pans storage. On the far left side of the new range is a cabinet that opens up to reveal two slideout shelves within.

This kitchen is unique in that each wall has it’s own backsplash statement. The original brick from the kitchen ha been kept to the range wall. The texture and character the brick brings to the space gives the kitchen design a rustic feel. This is especially true when you see the knotty Rustic Beech wood characteristics in the cabinetry. Across the kitchen is a contrast of textures that help to refine the space and keep it leaning more Transitional than Rustic in style. Glossy White 3″ x 6″ Subway Tiles by Rittenhouse is accented with a mosaic deco line from Jeffery Court named Stream StoneBlanco sink in black finish. | VillageHomeStores.com

The Engineered Quartz in this design is named Tundra. It perfectly blends the cabinetry, flooring, tile, and appliances together. A Blanco undermount sink in the Black finish offers two equal-size basins and a tall center divider. The sink wall is also home to the refrigerator and dishwasher and around the corner, a dry bar has been installed. Kitchen design rendering. | VillageHomeStores.com
Gray kitchen cabinets in remodeled Galesburg, IL kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.comThe base cabinets along this wall also include optimized storage space. On the far right of the sink wall of cabinetry is a door that opens to reveal two more slideout shelves. Slideout shelves from Koch Classic can be adjusted to roll at many heights. More shelves can also be added if you have shorter items to store and could use even more of that space. In a galley kitchen layout like this, placing a garbage can along the center wall would instantly grab your eye as you enter the kitchen. Instead, a pull-out waste basket is included in the base cabinet to the right of the sink. This category of cabinet can be ordered to reveal a large single bin or two smaller bins (shown).cabinets_galesburg

Erie, IL- Kitchen Remodel Updated and Upgraded

This Erie, IL kitchen has been updated and upgraded. A similar footprint to the original kitchen, but using beautiful new materials and upgraded features throughout. Oak cabinetry and laminate tops have been removed and a new Cherry kitchen from our Koch Classic line has been installed. The Cherry “Prairie” doorstyle in a medium “Briarwood” finish compliments the existing Oak trim and doors in the space. The Cherry selection is an updated look and the rich wood grain of the wood is a major upgrade from the Oak.

All of the kitchen appliances remain in roughly the same locations. The original kitchen single-height peninsula has been replaced with a dual-height design and the kitchen sink has been shifted from the center of the peninsula to the corner. With the new layout, the largest transformation happened on the wall opposite the original kitchen L-shape layout:
Kitchen before and after photo. | VillageHomeStores.com

So much of that original wall was getting no storage use. The new design now includes that whole wall into the kitchen. That tall pantry cabinet space is now fit with two 12″ deep tall pantries, each 24″ wide with a single door. Installed side by side, this gives the finished look of a 48″ wide cabinet and leave a large part of that wall available for more cabinetry. Because of a casual dining area on that end of the kitchen, the new base cabinets transition back at an angle to meet the shallow pantries. This new design now provides a large countertop that cab be used to load and unload the pantry or refrigerator or set up as a coffee station or work surface. At this location, the space is very versatile.
Shallow pantry cabinet. | VillageHomeStores.com

A 12″ deep pantry can store quite a bit within, especially when it is four feet wide! Other specialty upgrades include the addition of a pull-out cutting board concealed above the top drawer of a base cabinet. A great feature in just the right location. When selecting specialty items like tray dividers, cutting boards, or spice cabinets, be sure they are located in the area you plan to reach for them.

On each side of the new Whirlpool range are base cabinets fit with sliding shelves. These cabinets are perfect for keeping pots and pans sorted. By keeping this look symmetrical on each side of the range, a comfortable landing space of counter is available for the user on both sides.
Sliding shelves in kitchen. | VillageHomeStores.com

Moving the kitchen sink to the corner frees up the entire peninsula for a worksurface. A corner sink also adds interest to the layout. Our Diode LED undercabinet lighting system spotlights a beautiful new tiled backsplash along both walls of cabinetry. The main field tile is a 3 x 6″ polished Travertine. The decoline of accent tile is from our Glazzio line and is named “Tranquil”.
Cambria Quartz in Hampshire design. | VillageHomeStores.com

Cambria Hampshire. | VillageHomeStores.comThe short area of backsplash on the peninsula has been given a different treatment from the tiled walls. This jump from counter height to bar height (shown in profile on right) is only a few inches. Instead of creating a bright contrast of travertine tiles, a splash has been installed of the same Cambria Quartz material from the countertop. The “Hampshire” Cambria Quartz has been given the “Full Bullnose” edge profile.

The peninsula side facing toward the Great Room has been fit with a wainscot panel and trim for a customized look. A four-panel wainscot design and furniture base completes the look. On the end of the peninsula that meets the wall, a full-height door cabinet opens into the Great Room. This becomes a great place to store items that might normally pile up on end tables or countertops. The cabinet helps finish off the peninsula and provide a space to hide these items out of sight. Speaking of hiding things out of sight, notice with the dual-height peninsula design that you can’t see into the kitchen sink?

Custom wainscot panel. | VillageHomeStores.com

crown molding on cabinetNow that the soffits have been removed, there is room for the new cabinetry to reach higher and still have space for a more appropriate crown molding to be applied. Crown molding may not seem like a significant detail but it is this final “trimming out” phase that helps complete any finished kitchen. Including crown and undercabinet molding help polish off the look. On the back of the peninsula area a furniture baseboard molding was applied where the panel meets the new flooring. A polished and customized look. Don’t miss out on the opportunities in your own design to help your space look carefully planned out and customized specially for your home.

The new flooring in the kitchen is from our Tarkett line. It is a Luxury Vinyl Tile, or “LVT” floor and looks perfect in this new kitchen. LVT can be installed grouted with a special form of grout or groutless (shown in this home). Read more about LVT and how it is installed here on a past blog post. A rolled edge treatment on these tiles help this groutless look to be forgiving of subfloor imperfections and best of all, no grout to clean!
