At Village Home Stores we love the continued momentum of the “Farmhouse” trend because in our area we have a lot of actual farmhouses we get to design for! Really the Midwest style of “Traditional” has always lent itself to a Farmhouse look because of our love of rustic and reclaimed materials. Pair that with varied woods and textures, and incorporating antiques and found objects into the spaces and we have been Farmhouse style around here long before anyone knew who Chip and Johanna were. Take a look at this completed kitchen remodel in a local Kewanee, IL farmhouse (sorry, cute cat not included with kitchen design “purr”chase).

This Koch Classic kitchen features the “Westbrook” doorstyle with a painted “Taupe” finish on the perimeter and the rich, “Java” stain on the kitchen island. An Ebony accent glaze has been applied to the taupe paint to highlight some of the great door and drawer details plus the added moldings and hood elements we have included in the design. Wine storage can be decorative and functional! Two X-shaped wine cubby cabinets crown the top of the refrigerator installed against a wall on one side, and a finished end panel to the other.

This refrigerator may look built-in like a counter-depth unit, but note the depth change from the nearby cabinet and counter. This is a full-depth KitchenAid french door fridge given this built-in look by designing with a deeper refrigerator end panel. Another detail keeping with a clean look is the lack of water dispenser on the door. No worries for the thirsty! This model has an interior water dispenser in the top section and icemaker in the freezer. On that same refrigerator wall is the cooking zone of the kitchen design. A front-control 5-burner gas range with convection sits below a wood hood.

Take a look at how great this “Westbrook” cabinet style looks as a door and drawer. Made even more beautiful accented with that Ebony glaze. The wood hood cabinet was ordered to match the kitchen cabinetry. A shallow shelf and detailed brackets complete the look. In any great cooking zone there needs to be ample ventilation. Tucked up into the hood cabinet is a 390 CFM range hood blower by Broan.

“Ivory Classico” Tumbled Travertine tiles in a 3″ x 6″ size are installed in the main backsplash area as a bricklay pattern. In the accent area above the cooktop, the same tile is installed in a herringbone pattern. A 3/4″ wide pencil rail tile in the “Wrought Iron” color frames in the accent space. Our surface experts at Village Home Stores will work with you to help you select the right tile, layout and installation design for your space.

Engineered quartz counters in a mixed pattern named “Bedrock” blends all of the finishes from the open concept kitchen into one surface color. A standard Eased edge profile has been applied and no quartz backsplash has been installed to allow the full 18″ high distance to feature the Travertine tiles. This kitchen looks out into a large living room and has access to the stairwell for a lower level as well as the hallway and front entry to the home.
The flooring is a major surface selection to make in any open great room space like this.

With the cabinetry being a blend of a rich dark stain and a Taupe painted color, the Engineered Hickory selected is a beautiful compliment to both. These 7″ wide planks are from our Canoe Bay line in the Key West Series and “Casa Marina” color. We love the warm gray range in colors and it pairs perfectly with rustic barnwood furniture and accessories in the home.

There is great storage in this kitchen design including a large pantry cabinet fit with slideout shelving. Pantry cabinets can only be efficient if they offer you accessible storage space. Access the front AND back of your pantry by including deep slideout shelves like this. We can add these adjustable shelves to any deep cabinet space you want to have easier access to. Large and deep drawer storage is located at the center of the kitchen island.

Two large drawers offer up great pots and pans storage for the cooking zone it faces. Another drawer for baking pans and cookie sheets is located beneath the built-in KitchenAid microwave. A pull out wastebasket cabinet is on the opposite end of the kitchen island with a location that is within reach of the cooking, prep and kitchen cleanup zones of the design.

This island at the center of the kitchen design offers a large, single-height surface with an overhang for counter-height stool seating. A subtle arch to the overhang area ads interest and softens the look of the large quartz slab. 4 stools and two outlets tuck underneath the island overhang. Above the island are two pendant lights. These Capital pendant lights are around 12″ in size and keep the space feeling light and airy with a water glass textured shade.

The largest statement made in this home from our lighting department wasn’t even a light! This 60″ windmill fan from Quorum is a showroom display favorite and in this home it is so perfect! Oil-Rubbed Bronze metal finishes and a gray weathered wood stain on the blades. We are a “big fan” of this look and it comes in many sizes! Shop our lighting and fans online, anytime at villagehomestores.com or contact a member of our lighting staff to get some guidance for the right fixture perfect for your style and budget.
