This kitchen remodel feature brings us to a home in Morrison, IL where a new kitchen was part of a major remodel overhaul to the home. A room addition on the back end of the home and this new open kitchen layout have helped to create a new flow to the spaces. We also installed new flooring, lighting, and remodeled a hall bathroom during the process. We love a two tone kitchen design and for this kitchen, we combined two finishes AND two of our cabinet lines to get the perfect look for this household.
The kitchen perimeter cabinetry comes from our Dura Supreme line. The doorstyle is named “Highland” and has been painted in the “Moonstone” finish. The accent finished wood hood, island, and pantry wall are all from our Koch Classic line of cabinetry. The “Prairie” door is the perfect compliment to the perimeter cabinetry. These accent items are in a Hickory wood stained a warm gray “Stone” finish. If you are looking for a great wood stain that compliments many tones of grays out there, ask to see a sample of this finish on all wood species. We even two toned the countertop surfaces in this kitchen. The kitchen island is a statement Cambria Quartz surface named “Langdon” and the solid-colored perimeter quartz is the “Manchester” design.
The glass door cabinets were given a two tone look by ordering contrasting interior shelves. Including glass door cabinets in your design is a great way to add interest and offer display areas keeping the items contained and uncluttered. We always suggest to include our Diode LED tape lighting on the interior of glass cabinets. This really creates a stunning display space and the cabinets can also be used as an ambient light source day and night. We also installed this bestselling LED system for the undercabinet lighting in the new kitchen.
Of course there is plenty of great storage throughout the new kitchen design. Starting with this wall cabinet extension capping off the end of the sink wall. We love using this style of a drawered wall cabinet in bathroom designs to separate the two bowl areas. Of course this is a great kitchen cabinet as well! Think of how many uses you could have for these long and shallow drawers to keep clutter off your counters.
The corner of a kitchen design is always an opportunity to maximize storage when possible. Here we installed an angled front wall cabinet and base cabinet. This shape of a corner base cabinet allows you to gain a deeper and more accessible corner countertop surface. Inside of this base cabinet is a wooden lazy susan tray on two shelves. This sturdy design replaces the pole lazy susans of the past. Ask your kitchen designer at Village Home Stores to see all of your cabinet options for a corner in your own kitchen design.
This kitchen design must have been “written in the cosmos” because ironically the cabinet finish and the tile share the same “Moonstone” name! An elongated beveled wall tile from our Glazzio line in the Gemstone 3″ x 12″ series and “Grey Moonstone” color. The added bevel details adds interest, shadow, and texture without introducing another color to the tile. An accent tile area has been installed above the cooktop in a mosaic of Elongated Hex tiles in the “Silhouette” colorway from our Jeffrey Court line.
The appliances in this kitchen are from our dependable and strong Maytag line. Shown above is a front-control electric range with True Convection features. Curious what “convection” means or what type is right for you? Check out this short segment from our TV show where we unpack all that info for you. Don’t forget that we offer appliance sales and service to a large area and you can get a fair price while supporting our small business with your appliance purchases. The accented “Stone” stained cabinets in this kitchen include a wood hood, the kitchen island, and the cabinetry surrounding the refrigerator. Wood hood cabinets can truly elevate your kitchen design. We love the customized look they give. Not sure what to put inside of it? Don’t worry! Our team will help you select the correct style and power for an insert for these cabinets. A counter-depth french door refrigerator is surrounded in this kitchen by tall pantry cabinets. Just look at all of that great storage! These two tall cabinets plus a deep cabinet above can honestly store as much (perhaps more?) than a walk-in pantry can.
To the left of the pantry and refrigerator area is a small landing space. We installed a wall outlet from our Radiant series that includes USB plugins. This makes it a great place for charging devices, sorting mail, keys, and papers in the cabinets above and below. Just around the corner from the new kitchen is an entirely new room in the home. A stunning new spacious four seasons space with a statement ceiling. A 65″ wide farmhouse inspired fan named “Gentry” looks perfect in the space in the “Anvil Iron” finish.
Don’t forget that our expert start to finish kitchen remodel team is also your expert start to finish bathroom remodel team. In this home a hall bathroom has been transformed to now become a stylish new space. Fit with a single sink vanity, framed mirror, and toilet topper cabinet. The same Hickory “Stone” cabinetry from our Koch Cabinetry line is used and we love seeing it paired with this rich mosaic tile in a variety of colors.
The Cambria Quartz vanity top is one of our favorite parts of the entire project! Look at how stunning this Skara Brae surface is! Cambria is a wonderful choice for a bathroom vanity top. It is extremely durable, resistant to the heat of hair care appliances, and wipes clean with just soap and water or any mild cleaner. Nothing spilled on the surface will be absorbed into that gorgeous pattern or cause a stain. With any natural or engineered stone surface in a bathroom we are also able to undermount a sink to the slab of surface. This makes cleanup even more simple and keeps the look clean.

As you walk through the rooms in your home, do you ever wish a doorway was wider or that a wall could just magically disappear? Giving you that “open concept” you see on all of your favorite HGTV shows? Well we can’t just wiggle our nose and make a wall disappear… but we do know the right reliable crews who can do it safely for you. Plus we can design a complete and finished look for your spaces. This Bettendorf Iowa home was more than just a kitchen remodel story. We widened doorways, removed walls, and gave these homeowners a more open and brighter space.
What a difference material selection can make in a new kitchen. The original kitchen in this home was a small design with an eat-in dining space. Dark wood cabinets and dark countertops boxed in the space with a U-shaped peninsula layout. The new layout removes that peninsula divide and uses the entire kitchen and casual dining space. Bright white painted cabinetry for the main perimeter of the kitchen helps to lighten the entire look and keep the new kitchen feeling bright and spacious.
What a dramatic difference from the original kitchen! We installed a section of taller cabinetry on the opposite end where the casual dining area was. Now it is home to a deep pantry cabinet, a counter-depth french door refrigerator, and built in wall oven and microwave. Keeping all of these deeper, and taller elements together allows the main kitchen “L-shape” to feel more open and spacious for the users near the sink and range wall.
Dura Supreme Cabinetry is painted White with a Pewter Accent Glaze and a decorative cabinet design on the end of the window wall includes glass inserts. A unique circle-shaped mullion door detail (shown below) is added to the top section of the doors and an open wine shelf is found on the bottom. Have limited space but want a customized cabinet layout? Our kitchen design team can make the most of your space with usable and stylish storage solutions that fit your space and budget.
Keeping the kitchen light and bright is a marble-look engineered quartz countertop selection from our Cambria Quartz collection. The stunning Skara Brae design gives the classic look of a marbled pattern with wide veins of warm grays. As a contrast to all of the white, a rich dark wood floor from our Bella Cera line has been installed throughout the new main floor of this home.
A Hickory Monte Viso floor in varied widths is now installed in the front entry, formal dining room, new kitchen, hallway, the living room, and hearth room. One key to a successful multi-room remodel is to try and keep a consistent flooring surface that marries all the spaces together. We also added custom window shades to all of the rooms we worked in. Our best-selling Transitions shades may seem like a modern style, but they look right at home in any space! This gorgeous traditionally-styled kitchen is a great example of that.
This style of shade allows you such versatile options for privacy and light. You can set them at any position that works for you with full or partial overlaps. Ask about the many colors, sizes, and options for these shades. We even offer cordless features like voice, and remote-controlled shades. Press play below to see the shades in this home in action.
The decorative valance above the kitchen sink is complimented by the wood hood and decorative mantle details above the cooking zone of the new design. Don’t want a metal hood as a part of your dream kitchen? You are not alone! We design many spaces using a wood hood cabinet with a blower insert installed within it. This allows the wall cabinet design to include the decorative hood instead of be disrupted by it. Want to see more examples of hood designs? Check out this board on our Pinterest page.
You have many options for how we can style this wood hood cabinet. In this kitchen we included beautiful carved wood corbels and a detailed shelf above the valance. These selections look even better with the Pewter accent glaze applied to help enhance all of the details. Including a shallow shelf like this above the cooktop provides a ledge for home accessories as well. Imagine this hood with a small sign or artwork leaning, or even a wreath or garland during the holidays.
The tile wall surfaces in this kitchen take the warm taupes and gray tones from the quartz counters and applies a glossy texture to the wall. A classic 3″ x 6″ subway tile shape is the man backsplash tile. This “Pardo” tile is from our Jeffrey Court line and the accent space above the cooktop is a Glazzio starburst series mosaic named “Kepplers Dusk”.
Of course the true star of a cooking zone is the range itself and this KitchenAid gas front-control range is a dream! A standard 30″ wide range with the look and features of a commercial model including convection and 5 burners on the cooktop. Shop appliances from Village Home Stores any day and any time online at villagehomestores.com and be sure to contact our expert team to get all of your questions answers and for our local low price guarantee!
A great range and cooktop surrounded by smart storage to be accessed right within reach of it! Pullout cabinets bookend the range and open to reveal a tray divider and spice rack. We offer many incredible specialty cabinet inserts that can be included in your kitchen or bath design from Village Home Stores. Ask your designer what your options are for both base cabinets and wall cabinets.
The best place to showcase the Skara Brae Cambria tops is the kitchen island top. The warm gray veining looks almost like rivers flowing through the piece. Cambria quartz adds drama to the look of your kitchen but no drama as far as upkeep! Engineered quartz is a wonderful surface for your counters. It is nonporous and requires no sealing to keep that quality. This surface is extremely durable and food-safe. That means you can truly get to work in your kitchen and it will clean up just like this when you are finished.
The kitchen island has some added details to it to help create a furniture look. We installed the Cambria with an Ogee Edge Profile which adds a detailed ledge all around the island top. We love how the light hits it and you can see the colors and patterns go throughout the entire slab. Each corner was also shaped to accent the wooden legs below.
To compliment the flooring woodtones, the kitchen island was installed in a Cherry “Java” stain as a contrast to the perimeter cabinetry. We included carved wooden legs at each corner and arched valances as an apron below the overhang. A wooden furniture baseboard molding completes the look. This island design offers a centrally-located work surface and a comfortable space for two to sit.
We widened doorways and also worked in other areas of this main level including the formal dining room, a front living room and this hearth room (shown below) just off of the kitchen. There we added a dry bar area to be used when entertaining guests. During the holidays do you find your own kitchen full of people? Adding a custom sideboard, dry, or wet bar to an adjacent room like this allows you to keep people out of your kitchen when you entertain.
A glass-front beverage cooler, base cabinet with drawer, wall cabinets, wine storage, and even stemware holders have all been included in this space. Like this look and want to save an idea for your own project with Village Home Stores? See more of this entire Bettendorf, Iowa kitchen and lower-level remodel project over here on our Houzz page.
Our best-selling diode LED tape lighting is the perfect enhancement for a bar area like this because you can leave these low-voltage lights on as ambient lighting all of the time. This lighting is not just for the underside of cabinetry either. We use it often inside of our glass-door cabinetry. Check out the new look the fireplace wall received in the hearth room:

This week we are sharing a feature on a custom kitchen we just completed with Aspen Homes in their Woodlands Farm House. This home in Bettendorf Iowa is so stunning it will knock the wind right out of you when you walk in the front door. It is THAT GORGEOUS! Did you know that farmhouse style doesn’t have to mean weathered woods and ship lap covering every surface? This open concept kitchen is an amazing example of a high-end and polished approach to the farmhouse style.
The kitchen is a balanced blend of custom Amish-built cabinetry in a painted “White” and White Oak stained “Sand” finish. The only bold contrast you see is in the accents like faucets, lighting, and accessories. A matte black finish on these items helps the lighting and accents to stand out and make a great statement. The overall cabinetry feels bright, light, and clean with these light finishes and floating shelves. A commercial-style 48″ wide, dual-fuel freestanding KitchenAid range is found on the main wall of the kitchen design. It includes two ovens, 6 burners, and a built-in griddle.
A pro-style range hood insert is housed above that in a custom wood hood cabinet. In a great room kitchen, scale is a very important element to consider for your overall design. In this home the tall ceilings and open spaces still feel bright and light and the size of the 48″ range and 48″ build-in refrigerator are just the right scale for the space. The cabinetry extends all the way to the ceiling and a large-scale crown molding marries the cabinetry to the ceiling. A standard-size and style crown would look out of place here. This angled, large-scale crown is perfect.
On the refrigerator wall, the same “Sand” White Oak cabinetry from the kitchen island is used to surround the built-in refrigerator. Two shelves bridge the tiled wall from the refrigerator to the entry wall. Open shelves in the kitchen and bath design industry continue to become more popular in many styles of spaces. This kitchen includes a lot of cabinet storage space so these wall shelves can be left to style any way you would like throughout the year. Imagine stacked white dishes, leaning artwork, or holiday decor!
There is a rapid-growing interest in light wood flooring and cabinetry in our industry. Would you have predicted just a few years ago that Oak would make such a comeback? Well it’s official, Oak is back in the spotlight… just not the golden Oak we saw year ago. White oak is trending and showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. We love the look of this woodgrain when paired with painted cabinets of any color. The countertop surfaces in this kitchen are an engineered quartz named “Calacatta Laza”.
The hardware in this kitchen is from our Hardware Resources line and the “Brushed Gold” handles are the “Stanton” series. A standard 3″ handle would look off-scale and shrunken in this kitchen design. Using a large-scale handle elevates the look of this entire kitchen design. The brushed gold finish is also repeated in some of the home accessories and lighting. The pendant lighting above the kitchen island makes a huge impact in the space. Three “Brynne” pendants from our Feiss line hang n a Matte Black finish with gold accents.
If you aren’t sure what size or what quantity you need for lighting above your island, please contact our expert team. We can help you select the right fixtures for your space and your budget. Shop our lighting online, anytime here on our lighting website. There you can sort by finish, style, size and more. Plus you can contact us for help on that site. Speaking of lighting, another great fixture in this home hangs next to the kitchen is a serene dining space surrounded by windows.
Here we included a Linear Gabriel 8-light fixture in the “Noir” finish from Quorum. The simple lines look right at home with the black windows in this room. The look is really timeless and on trend at the same time. Many find this upscale farmhouse look to really just be categorized a “New Traditional”. Take a look at the Great Room below and imagine that same space with just a few changes in furniture. Neutral finishes on the cabinetry and surfaces help it to be easy to envision the space jumping from farmhouse, to contemporary, coastal and everywhere in between. The ceiling fan in this room is the “Maverick” from our Monte Carlo line. It is available in many finishes including “Matte Black” (shown).
You can actually tour this home as part of the QCBR Fall Parade of Homes this week! The tour will be open from 5-7pm on Wednesday the 25th and again Saturday and Sunday 9/28-29 from 1-5pm. Grab a map and full details here. If you have a giant crush on this kitchen like we do, head over here to the full album of photos from this home on our Houzz page. There you will also find more images of the other incredible rooms in this property. We love how the powder room turned out! This furniture style vanity and marble top from Hardware Resources looks great!
In the Master Bath we repeated the White Oak “Sand” cabinetry with the same hardware and clean-lined doorstyle as the kitchen. Double sink vanity designs are still sought after for many households. Here we broke up the space by changing heights and depths of the drawer stack at the center of the design. This provides a visual interest and creates a clear separation for each user. “Octave” 3-light vanity lighting from our Savoy House line looks incredible in a “Warm Brass” finish above each sink.
We also installed some Matte Black cabinetry in some of the home’s other bathrooms and the wet bar of the lower level. Someone pour us out a pint because we want to hang out in this bar! Black “Savannah” cabinetry from our Koch Classic line is paired with Calacatta Laza Quartz counters and a 3″ thick custom wood butcherblock bar top. That same oak “Sand” stain is repeated in floating shelves on ta back bar wall. Whirlpool’s “Black Stainless Steel” finish looks perfect in this home bar and the fingerprint resistant top coat makes it ready for any party crowd!

This Coal Valley Illinois kitchen just got a whole new look and layout! We made functional changes (like that new view and access to the pool shown below) and updated the look and style of the entire main level of this home. Custom Rustic Alder cabinetry from our Four Acre Amish cabinetry line is stained in a “Saddle” finish and accented kitchen island and hutch are finished with a “Light Pewter” paint. Accents of brushed gold metals, an incredible KitchenAid appliance package, and gorgeous Cambria countertops complete the look.
We moved the walk-out access to the backyard down closer to the pool view, and replaced the original window with a new wet bar. Two original peninsulas were replaced with a new custom hutch section. The new look is open, bright, and very stylish! Work was needed in this kitchen, the adjacent dining and living rooms, and entire back area of the home. That is a lot to tackle when you are also living in the home. These amazing customers called us and the complete start-to-finish Project Management team at Village Home Stores got to work for them.
There is such a transformation to the entire main level of this home that there is no way we could walk you through everything here on the blog… so instead we taped a full 1/2 hr. episode of our weekly TV show about this remodel story! Stay tuned for it to air very soon at our new time Sunday mornings at 10am on WQAD News Channel 8 ABC. In the meantime, check out this short video we made documenting some of the process. Press play below to see this kitchen and back door area transform!
Now that you have seen what it took to get to this stunning space, let’s take a closer look around at the details, materials, and design that give us this amazing end result. We replaced the U-shaped island obstacle with a long, rectangle island design with overhang on the back for counter-height stools. The refrigerator moved to a new location and the long, range wall became the featured focal point in the kitchen section of this design.
The large scale of the KitchenAid commercial 48″ wide dual fuel range is repeated with a custom wood hood above it. The cabinetry surrounding the range is symmetrical with staggered depths and heights in the upper cabinets. What a dream space to get to work preparing a meal! Concealed within that large mantle hood cabinet is a Broan blower insert so that there is proper ventilation when the cooktop or griddle is in use.
One of the benefits to purchasing from our custom Amish-built cabinetry lines is the ability to build sections of cabinets as one unit. Instead of this hood arriving at the jobsite as many cabinets and a lot of trim pieces, it arrives already assembled and finished just as you see it here. Our carpenters just had to install it and trim off the top with crown molding. The end result for you is a custom, seamless look and feel.
This range will certainly be the envy of any serious home chef! A dual fuel KitchenAid range with combined oven capacity of 6.3 cu.ft. and a 6-burner gas cooktop and chrome electric griddle on top. Dual fuel means you get the benefits of electric baking in the oven cavities and the immediate control of a gas cooktop above. Shop all of our incredible cooking appliances with our Local Low Price Guarantee at villagehomestores.com
Who wouldn’t love to have a griddle integrated into a cooking zone like this? This even-heat chrome griddle offers a great cooking performance for this household and has an easy-to-clean surface. That means pancakes on a Sunday morning doesn’t mean cleaning up after pancakes all Sunday afternoon. There is no seasoning required for the griddle, and the chrome allows you to never have any flavor transfers from meal to meal. If you were able to contain your envy about the range, cover your eyes and ears when we point out the pot-filler faucet right above the cooktop.
Many magazine-cover kitchens include this wall faucet feature. For those who truly use their kitchens, this decorative feature is also highly functional! Imagine filling a pasta pot with water right at the cooktop. Or adding water to used pots and pans to soak for a bit before washing. We also designed this cooking zone to be functional during the cooking process with amazing storage surrounding it. Large pots and pans drawers are found on this wall as well as two pullout cabinets surrounding the range.
A 12″ pullout spice rack on the left side of the range and a 12″ pullout utensil storage cabinet on the right. We have installed many of these utensil cabinets this year and they are such a great specialty cabinet! Instead of mining through a wide or deep drawer of utensils, see everything in these organized bins and grab what you need. We also love that the lower shelf in this cabinet can be used for large containers and bottles.
Of course in any busy kitchen the island becomes the place to gather. With a new flow to this kitchen layout, the new island offers a space to casually eat, clean up, and even prepare foods. The island has a furniture style look with an accented “Light Pewter” painted finish and legs at each corner.
The backside of the island appears to be a custom wainscot panel… but there is storage hidden under that overhang! Each cabinet opens to reveal shelf storage for small appliances, serving trays, and seasonal items. We have found that some customers prefer storage hidden beneath an area like this, instead of an extra shelf on top of the wall cabinets that require a stepstool or ladder to reach.
The kitchen island countertop surface is the best place to showcase the Cambria Quartz that was selected for this new kitchen. The Brittanicca Warm design gives a warm white background and dove grays vein through it for a marble look. The look of marble with the worry-free piece of mind that this surface can hold up to these kids and adults using the kitchen.
From YouTube-curious slime-making kids, to red-wine spilling guests, it’s no problem! We also installed outlets on each end of the kitchen island because kitchen islands are also multi-tasking spaces like home offices, homework stations, as well as food prep areas. In this kitchen, the island is also home to the microwave drawer, sink, and dishwasher.
Our designer at Village Home Stores included a lower drawer sink base cabinet. This gives plenty of space in the cabinet for plumbing and also a shallow drawer for cleaning supplies below. The undermounted sink in this kitchen is an e-granite composite material with a low center divider. Why a low divider? When was the last time you actually filled up your entire sink with water?
This alternative low-divider sink layout allows those who don’t soak dishes a wider space for washing larger items and pans with handles. Even with all of these new cabinets, you can never have enough pantry space when you have lots of kids and entertain large groups. We moved the refrigerator from its original location and added a pantry area to the main range wall of the kitchen design.
But that’s not just a 24″ deep pantry cabinet… its a pantry front that opens up to access a walk-in hidden pantry. We framed in an entire new pantry area for this household borrowing space from the laundry room right behind the kitchen. We cut out an opening so it could be accessed from the kitchen and voila! As these kids call it, a “secret room” pantry!
Speaking of the kids, a household with active kids… means piles and clutter right? Not on our watch! We partnered with this couple to design drop zones and storage solutions that these kids can use and grow along with. We will show you the amazing mudroom bench area just around the corner in a future blog feature. In the meantime, check out this kitchen drop zone!
Base cabinet storage designated for school papers and all those water bottles and snack food containers! There is even a way to keep school papers sorted and out of sight. Did you notice the wall here? What’s one way to avoid papers piling up on a counter? Just give the option of a way to pop them up on the wall! We installed a magnetic wall surface here that can help display artwork, calendars, notes, reminders, and more!
The stainless magnetic wall surface nearby keeps the built in refrigerator front looking clean. A dual compressor, French Door layout with Platinum finished interior keep the fresh and frozen foods organized and fresh. Ask an appliance expert at Village Home Stores about the Preserva food system available in most of our refrigerator options.
With a pool just outside of the new kitchen, and a great open concept layout like this of course you are going to find yourself entertaining from time to time. With three kids, even dinner at home as a family is a large crowd. There is a casual kitchen dining table within the new kitchen and a stylish wet bar area right next to it. This bar area allows for a great location for serving drinks or snacks away from the kitchen itself.
A section of glass-door cabinetry offers display for bar ware and glasses and a stacked stone wall surface compliments the stone of the fireplace just around the corner. This bar also includes a customer favorite (and all these kids admitted their favorite) built-in icemaker from KitchenAid.
Uniformly shaped ice cubes ideal for everyday applications. Clear Ice technology allows for a more attractive drink presentation and a slower melt rate! So that means less watered-down drinks for you! This panel-ready model and nearby paneled drawer appliances give the clean look of a row of cabinets, with great appliance features hidden in plain sight.
Those two drawers on the end are actually an appliance as well! The top is a refrigerator drawer full of snack items and kids beverages. The bottom drawer is a freezer full of popsicles and frosty mugs! Just steps from the pool, this bar area is a favorite for all ages!
A single well bar sink is also located in this bar area. The sink is the same material and color as the kitchen island sink and another Delta faucet is installed in a brushed brass/gold finish. That same gold accent is found in the home decor, lighting, and cabinet hardware of this design.
That same champagne brushed brass accent is repeated in the cabinet hardware. “Merrick” handles from our Hardware Resources line look great against the painted finishes and the woodgrain of the Rustic Alder cabinets.
The area that used to be two awkward peninsulas, is now a gorgeous hutch in a painted accent finish. Glass-front cabinets with X-mullions are lighted from within as well as an open shelf section in the center. These shelves will be so much fun to decorate throughout the year! Each glass-door cabinet stretches down to the countertop surface and a drawer allows another place to stash items away and out of sight.
Speaking of away and out of sight, how about this peninsula section packed with the kids crafting, coloring, and homework supplies! There is also an outlet (see below) with USB charging hubs right here for phone, tablet, and laptop access.
This custom hutch will also be available when entertaining as another area to gather or even serve food and beverages from. Our Diode LED tape lighting helps this kitchen design look great day and night. This low-voltage system is a customer favorite. Imagine how warm and inviting this hutch must look glowing at night!

White painted cabinetry is a consistently classic look for a kitchen. For certain projects however, one added detail can take that look to a new level. That detail is choosing an inset cabinetry construction. The term inset means that the cabinet doors and drawer fronts are recessed back into the cabinet faceframes when closed. This gives a very customized furniture-style look to the cabinetry. This option is available from custom and semi-custom lines of cabinet product at Village Home Stores. This Milan, IL kitchen was given the full remodel treatment and for the vision of this new kitchen in the home, inset door cabinetry by Dura Supreme was the perfect choice.
The original kitchen was walled-off and sectioned into a small sink area and another cooking area The refrigerator was on its own across the way. Our team removed a wall that divided the dining area from the kitchen to open up the room and create a more open concept into the dining and front room of the home. Two windows were replaced with one large window now offering panoramic views to anyone at the kitchen farm sink in its new location. When the flooring was removed, this great pine floor was revealed beneath it. We think keeping the original wood floors was a fantastic choice with this bright, white new setting.
Even though this kitchen may have farmhouse feel, the appliances needed to have modern features while looking at home in the new space. We included a tall pantry cabinet to the left of the refrigerator for a surrounded and customized refrigeration look. A KitchenAid counter depth refrigerator keeps that built-in look locked in tight. Counter depth refrigeration is a modern feature that can really be a miracle worker when kitchen designing in small spaces. Another built-in appliance that is worth noting is the microwave.
The over-the-counter microwave from Sharp allows you to have the off-the-counter convenience of a microwave hood without installing it as your hood. This microwave option gave the client an opportunity to take a more decorative approach to a range hood across the room. We have installed examples of all microwave location options at our showroom in Geneseo, IL. You can shop all of our appliances online, anytime at villagehomestores.com or by stopping in our showroom at 105 S State Geneseo, IL.
We mentioned the floors… but did you see those ceilings? Shiplap style boards were installed and painted to give a completed look from floor to ceiling. Walking into this completed kitchen remodel the wow factor truly is in every single surface! From the storied original pine floors to the statement Shiplap ceiling. A farmhouse apron-front sink and new stainless dishwasher are located on the bright new window wall.
Keeping the kitchen design bright and airy on the sink wall, three floating shelves are located above the dishwasher (see image below). We can order shelving like this for any space. We are seeing a long-term trend for kitchens, bathrooms, home bars, and built-in fireplace shelving to have a more open look like this. We see the potential for styling these open shelf spaces year round but love this everyday simple look of glassware in a pop of color.
A 30″ slide in gas range by KitchenAid is the superstar appliance in this kitchen. The help of convection cooking produces flawless results for you. The convection fan ensures the inside of the entire oven is heated to (and stays at) the perfect consistent temperature. Plus the oven cavity cleans in less than an hour without odors at a low heat using water to release baked-on spills!
A steam rack on the interior offers the ability to provide additional moisture to the inside of the oven, enhancing cooking results. Speaking of results, there is even a wireless probe that lets cooks walk away from the oven without walking away from control. The probe can easily be set to specific temperatures, and alerts you when the desired temperature has been reached. There is also a baking drawer beneath the oven. The separate compartment allows you to keep warm, slow cook or bake at a different temperature and keep dishes warm. That’s like having a second oven!
Beautiful Arabescato Marble countertops were installed throughout this kitchen. Glazzio’sCrystile “Ice Mist” glossy glass subway tiles in a 3″ x 6″ size introduces a seaglass color and adds a coastal layer to the kitchen finishes. Clean and bright wall switches and outlets from our Legrand Radiant series look amazing. Many times our tile customers are curious what to do at the “end” of a run of wall tile. We use a channeled product called a Schluter Strip (shown below on right) to give a cleaner, completed look.
Dura Supreme cabinetry in the Homestead non-beaded doorstyle painted white is paired with bright surface selections to give this home the spacious and stylish kitchen it deserves. The symmetry of the new range wall is perfection.
We installed our energy efficient Diode LED lighting as undercabinet and in-cabinet lighting for this project. The clerestory style of a glass-door top section is styled and illuminated perfectly. This lighting system is low-voltage so you can leave it on anytime with minimal power use. A stainless hood would be a bit modern for this kitchen. So the design includes paneled a wood hood cabinet with blower insert in the space.
A mantle and decorative corbels create a shallow ledge area that can be left clean (as shown) or be home to a wreath, accessories, or leaning artwork if you see fit. There is such a gallery effect when you have a bright white kitchen like this. You can style it differently year round and let your accessories truly pop against the white paint.
Any remodel or new build project comes with hundreds of decisions to be made. Our store will build you a team of experts from each department that you are shopping so we can walk you through your choices and help you decide what is the best choice for your project and your budget. When choosing inset cabinetry you have the option of a concealed or exposed hinge for your doors. This kitchen showcases an exposed barrel hinge in a brushed nickel finish to compliment the kitchen.
The nickel finish offers a sheen without a very dark contrast. It also compliments the Stainless Steel appliances in the completed kitchen. A great door and drawer hardware choice for inset cabinetry was also made in this design. The Highland Ridge Collection has a latching mechanism to keep doors closed and aligned. This style of hardware works well in modern and farmhouse styles and can be ordered in a variety of finishes. We paired this door hardware with classic cup pulls on the drawers.
