It is truly the absolute best feeling in the world to get to see customers using and loving their kitchens from Village Home Stores. I showed up to photograph this beautiful kitchen late one hot afternoon right as the school bus was dropping off the kids. Seeing them come home after school and head straight to the bottom freezer drawer for a popsicle was the perfect reminder that we help create spaces that families use all day long. What an amazing privilege! This entire home built by Tim Dolan Development in Bettendorf, IA was full of great classic elements like high cathedral ceilings, a large wood hood with fluted columns, and beautiful moldings and trim throughout the home.
While the overall look of the space may be Classic or Traditional, this home had an extra layer of color and fun brought into every room of the home I saw. This busy family has relocated to Iowa from Hawaii and with them came colorful artwork, ceramics, sculptures, and instruments. Their choice in pendant lighting was absolutely perfect in the space. These iridescent “Vine” lights by ELK look amazing on or off (shown here off).
Even with Stainless Steel appliances (including a large commercial-style gas range), this kitchen has such a warm feel to it. The refrigerator is normally the largest surface to show the Stainless finish but in this design, a panel-ready refrigerator was used. Custom panels were ordered in the same “Golden” stain with an accent glaze applied to the traditional “Seneca” raised-panel door style from our Koch Classic line.
The large island in this kitchen is the same door style but a “Mocha” stain is applied to the Rustic Beech. This compliments the accent glaze on the perimeter cabinets beautifully.
The back of this island may appear to be a custom wainscot panel but instead these doors all open a 12″ deep area of extra storage for seasonal and bulk items. See these cabinets in action over on our YouTube channel.
Speaking of storage there is plenty of it throughout this kitchen. Sliding shelves have recently gone from an occasional upgrade in kitchen design to an expected feature throughout. We try and include them in any standard drawer and door cabinet when we are able to.
Many customers prefer a large deep stack of drawers for pots and pans in place of doors to open and shelves to pull out. In this design a wide cabinet houses 4 sliding shelves and gives a lot of versatile storage space.
This home was just as warm and inviting as the owners who welcomed me in to see it on a hot summer day. We are so thrilled to have provided some of the materials for their new home in Iowa.
