This new home built in Geneseo, IL has a dream white and gray cabinet kitchen and many more spaces all fit with design and materials from Village Home Stores. We provided the cabinetry, countertops, appliances, lighting, flooring, and wall surfaces for this home built by Hazelwood Homes. Everything turned out amazing! Take a look around with us in this post.
Open concept kitchen designs in a new home have the luxury of lots of available cabinet space. But that doesn’t mean you can just drop basic bases and uppers into the floorplan and call it a day. Your kitchen designer at Village Home Stores will help you space plan your layout and work with you to include the right cabinetry solutions for you to move into. Specific storage spaces for items like small appliances or spices can be located in many different places. We showcase lots of spice pullouts here on the blog but we have other options available. In this home we included an interior door spice rack. These can be a wonderful way to keep your spices accessible to the cooking zone. Wall-cabinet spice storage also allow easier visual sight to your spices. Everything is at eye-level making it easier to grab the right container the first time.
Classic “White” painted cabinetry from our Koch line in the “Bristol” door is installed as the entire perimeter of this Geneseo, IL kitchen. The kitchen island is installed in the same “Bristol” door but using a Rustic Beech wood and the painted “Fog Drift” finish. This open concept kitchen design includes many doorways and access points. One of our favorite features of this open concept is actually tucked away into one of these passages. A hallway connecting the kitchen to the dining room creates a dry bar butlers pantry within reach of each space but out of sight from the main living room.
This area will be perfect for setting up a drink station while entertaining or allowing a surface for dishes and items that may crowd the dining room table during large meals. To give this area of cabinetry the feel of a built in cabinet or custom furniture piece, the upper doors have been given an “X” shaped mullion feature. In place of glass, mirror is installed here to give a decorative look without the pressure to display items behind the doors. We love using mirrored doors in versatile spaces like this passageway because you truly never know what items you may find yourself storing here.
The cooking zone of this kitchen design is a symmetrical layout with a centered cooktop and stainless steel range hood. Surrounding the hood are tall wall cabinets staggered in height and depth. The base cabinet layout consists of mostly large drawers. These drawers provide lots of accessible storage for pots, pans, baking dishes, and even small appliances. Note the selection of a wide, sturdy handle for these drawers. These wide and deep drawers are built to hold weight and open and close easily. The right size and scale of hardware can also help them to operate well.
The Bristol doorstyle from Koch is becoming one of our top-selling doors because it offers a single bead of detail on the inside of the cabinet door frame. This detail takes it from a completely squared off look, to a more softer style without adding too much flourish. Even with a solid painted white finish, you can see how that extra ridge of detail on the doors gives some shadow to the large surface area of the tall doors. We also love how the Bristol door looks installed with crown molding above. At the center of this cooking zone is a smooth top cooktop. This may look like a sleek electric cooktop, but it is an induction cooktop!
It uses electromagnetic energy to generate instant heat directly to your cookware without spreading the heat across the entire cooking surface. This 30″ wide cooktop by KitchenAid includes 4 versatile burner areas and a bridge feature that can convert two of them into one large cooking zone perfect for oval pans or griddles. Induction allows the clean and sleek look of an electric top but the immediate and effective control of heat of a gas cooktop.
The cleanup station in this kitchen design is found in the island. A large kitchen sink is at the center with a sleek single-hole kitchen faucet and sprayer and a garbage disposal button. The KitchenAid dishwasher in the island is another storage all star of this kitchen design! There is a third rack in this model that gives you a perfect location for washing utensils, lids, and more. The middle rack can easily be adjusted up and down. Press play below to see how easy the three racks move and adjust to accommodate many sizes of items.
The “Sullivan” hardware series is available in many finishes. “Matte Black” is a great finish choice here because it can stand out as a contrast against the cabinet colors but it also compliments the other metal finishes in the space. The Sullivan series is a great hardware selection for a kitchen because it is easy to grip and keep clean. Note where the hardware meets the drawer front in the image below. There are no narrow crevices where food or dust could build up. These handles and knobs are easy to wipe clean and look great.
The kitchen island has some great character from the Rustic Beech wood used. The “Fog Drift” finish is a great option to highlight the knots and rustic details. It takes the gray Fog paint from Koch and enhances door and wood details with an applied Antique stain. The countertop surface in this kitchen is a subtle and stylish quartz design named “Delgatie”from our Cambria Quartz line. This is a warm white quartz with a subtle, small-scale veining design.
Quartz is a durable and beautiful surface choice for kitchen counters. You get the look of a glossy marble counter in a non-porous, food safe, and durable surface. Cambria is also a very eco-conscious and sustainable choice for your countertop investment. An American-made and family-owned company, Cambria takes steps in transportation, water usage, power generation, lighting design, tooling, and materials to help safeguard the land and its people for generations to come while making your surfaces. But let’s get back to the kitchen shall we? Every great kitchen design includes plenty of pantry storage space. While this new home has lots of cabinet storage in the kitchen perimeter and island, there is still a need for a pantry. The wall that is home to the ovens and refrigerator turns the corner and floor-to-ceiling set of pantry doors. These doors open up to reveal there is a walk-in hidden pantry behind them.
Another set of doors worth peeking behind are the refrigerator doors in this kitchen. This may be a counter-depth model refrigerator… but it sure doesn’t look like it inside! This model actually boasts the largest capacity for a counter-depth refrigerator in its class. Every available inch has been used and helps to provide flexible storage options inside. A slide-away shelf retracts to fit tall items. Full-extension self-close crispers and a custom temperature pantry let you store more and find your items easily. Plus, the Preserva Food Care System with Linear Compressor helps keep it all at the peak of freshness. And it will stay looking great outside too with a PrintShield finish that resists fingerprints and cleans up easily.
The wall oven in this home is a 30″ wide KitchenAid model that has a feature-packed microwave unit on top and a high-performance wall oven below. Even-Heat™ True Convection Oven in the lower oven gives you a consistent temperature throughout the entire oven cavity for excellent results . The microwave above also offers Convection Cooking allowing this to be used as a double oven! Not confident about trying out convection settings for your best results? Use the EasyConvect™ Conversion System to enter cook times and temperature as you would normally use the oven, and this unit will convert that information into a corrected measurement for each.
The flooring surface for a great room setting is a very important selection to be made. You want a finish that can compliment all the spaces and furniture within them. You also need to select a product that can perform well for your household. This is a luxury vinyl plank floor from our COREtec Plus HD line. The color is “Klondike Contempo Oak”. The realistic woodgrain on the planks is embossed on as a grain pattern that you can see and feel. COREtec vinyl plank is waterproof, kidproof, and petproof. These floors are engineered to withstand real life with thick wear-layers and strong cores. That’s why they’re backed by lifetime residential warranties. We have lots of available finishes and textures in this product to reach out to a surfaces expert at Village Home Stores with any questions you may have about selecting a luxury vinyl plank for your home.
There is another vinyl surface in this home that may surprise you. The laundry room flooring surface may look like hand-painted farmhouse tiles… but it’s not! This is a sheet vinyl from our Mannington line in the “Tapestry” series. This line is made in the USA and has many patterns available. A lot has improved in sheet vinyl over the years including performance levels and anti-yellowing tech. For the right room, sheet vinyl can be an affordable way to make a big statement like this pattern does. This product is waterproof and kid and pet friendly. Perfect for this use as a laundry room floor.
This laundry room also has a great secret feature! There is a tiny opening near the floor under the folding counter. This pass through area is just large enough for a laundry basket or hamper to be passed through from the primary suite bathroom closet to the laundry room. Press play below to see this secret space revealed.
The primary bathroom suite in this home includes a custom tiled shower with tile from Village Home Stores. 4″ x 20″ tiles in “Brickwall” Matte White finish are installed in a brick lay pattern. Gray “Cobblestone” grout lines help to showcase the elongated tile shapes. Speaking of shapes, hexagon tiles are so on trend right now and this shower has them in tow locations. Used as the mosaic for the shower flooring and the interior of the shower niche, the Color Wheel Mosaic series in Hexagon “Matte Suede Gray” is a great choice.
And more gray elements can be spotted throughout this new home. A maple bathroom vanity shown below is found in one of the teen bathrooms of the new home in a painted “Fog” finish. An Onyx Collection vanity top with integrated sink completes the look in the “Dove” color with a white bowl. Check out the flooring in this bathroom. This is another great looking sheet vinyl from our Mannington line!
