We have mentioned before when featuring projects from Village Home Stores that not all stunning “after” photos begin with a full gut job and demolition. This home in LeClaire, Iowa was built years ago with custom features around every corner. It was already an amazing property and the existing kitchen had the open-concept layout with a large island that many of our new home and remodel customers desire. With no major layout changes we were able to make some partial remodel changes to the surfaces and appliances in the kitchen to result in a whole new traditional look.

The homeowners (two very successful Quad Cities area real estate agents) arranged to have the existing cabinetry and doors painted and glazed for a bright new update. New cabinet hardware and finish got us well on our way to a new look overall. Take a look at one before/after example of the transition from dark to light cabinetry here:

What a difference! Our designer did spend some time reworking the refrigerator wall of the kitchen. Here we removed a large built in paneled refrigerator and wall ovens to become a new design that includes a fridge, pantry cabinet, coffee area, and built-in cooking. More on that later… but in the meantime, please enjoy this adorable image of their dog posing at the new island.

With new granite countertops being installed, a replacement sink and faucet needed to be selected. An apron-front farmhouse style sink looks right at home in this style of kitchen. But did you know that those styles of sinks require a special sink base cabinet? Because we were using the original cabinetry, Kohler’s shallow apron-front sink was the perfect solution!

This sink style can be undermounted to new stone countertop surfaces and they are cleverly designed for remodel applications. The apron front of the sink is designed to fit in the false-drawer area of a “standard” sink base cabinet without having to modify the cabinet frame or doors below.

In a new cabinet kitchen, we can order you an apron front sink base which allows for shorter doors and a taller front to the sink like you are used to seeing in farmhouse kitchen images. The new granite surfaces were templated, fabricated, and installed by our experts at Surface Resource on the perimeter and the large island at the center of the kitchen. Take a look at this amazing show-stopping stone selected!

The natural stone counters are a granite from Brazil named Caravelas Gold. One of the most exciting steps of investing in natural stone countertop surfaces for your home is hand-selecting your materials. Thanks to Epic Stone in Davenport, Iowa you can view full slabs in their Quad Cities warehouse and tag the exact ones you would like our fabricators to use for your project. Check out this past blog post to learn more about working with Village and visiting Epic Stone to select your materials. You can walk the aisles and very many varieties of stone from all over the globe ranging in color and pattern.

Shown in this kitchen with an Ogee edge profile, Caravelas Gold granite has beautiful color and pattern in each slab and even some sections that are translucent! Check out this video we shared on Instagram showing you can see my phone’s flashlight shine through sections of the top. How cool is that?! These are pockets of the mineral quartz that all formed together with the stone a long, long time ago. Sometimes these quartz pockets appear as small patches, but If they go all the way through where the slab was cut, they can be lit from underneath just like in that video. What a cool party trick! The gorgeous stone island tops frame in a DREAM of a range right at the center of the kitchen.

This Viking Professional 7 Series range is 36″ wide and comes with a reversible center griddle/grill. This dual fuel range can bake, convection bake, convection roast, hi, med and low broil, convection broil, convection dehydrate, convection defrost, and self-clean. The burners range from 8,000 – 23,000 BTUs and each burner has a simmer setting providing the option of a gentle, even simmering at precise low temperatures. A restaurant-quality Infrared Broiler gives intense heat to sear meats and fish, locking in juices. A reversible cast iron griddle/grill evenly provides consistent cooking across the entire surface and be easily removed for cleaning. Speaking of cleaning, the grease containment system on this section directs excess grease into a removable capture trough for quick and easy cleanup.

Across from the island is a tall cabinet where we installed 27″ wide built in cooking from the Viking Professional 5 Series including a microwave with trim kit, wall oven, and warming drawer. A 48″ wide side by side refrigerator also has been installed on this wall. One of the advantages to choosing Viking for your professional-level home kitchen is including refrigeration from the same brand as your cooking and cleanup appliances. With Viking, badges and handles all complement each other and you get a more complete finished look. And these refrigerators are built industrial/restaurant level tough!

The microwave includes convection bake, broil, and roasting features making this kitchen a three-oven kitchen plus a warming drawer! Yes it will pop your popcorn, but take a peek at the controls below to see what else can be done. Learn more about Viking here in a past blog post where we toured the Chicago showroom and had a chef prepare food for us showcasing some of these features.

The lower section of this built-in cooking is home to the electric wall oven and a warming drawer. Warming drawers provide and area to keep prepared dishes at an ideal temperature ahead of service. You can also use these drawers to warm plates and mugs if needed. Shop our selection of Viking and other appliances online anytime at villagehomestores.com. We had our Amish-built cabinet line build a custom cabinet section to fit the space allowance between the new refrigerator and the built-in cooking. A tall pantry with dovetailed slide-out shelves and a coffee station.

The coffee station includes an appliance garage to stow away coffee machines and a slide-out tray on a shelf to access more coffee accessories. See more images from this partial kitchen remodel here on our Best of Houzz-Winning page.
