The primary bathroom in our latest featured project is a stunning blend of dramatic, dark cabinetry and neutral surfaces. A dual sink and mirror setup with two walk-in closets, a private room for the stool and urinal, plus a custom tiled shower. It also includes a one of our most highly-requested feature for a tiled shower: a curbless entry. Let’s take a look around this bathroom in a new Coal Valley, Illinois home built by Hazelwood Homes.
Last week we shared with you a look at the kitchen in this home. The symmetry and material selections in the Primary bathroom are just a seamless extension of that space. The “Bristol” door style from our Koch Classic line in the Birch “Java” stain is installed for the vanity cabinetry. That same door/finish combination was used as the accent finish in the kitchen.
The Java stain serves up a rich, dramatic look for the cabinets and the lighting selections elevate the look and function of this dual sink setup. Instead of traditional vanity lights, this bathroom has optimal lighting with a pair of Krugg LED-lit mirrors. Available in many shapes and sizes, here we used the 24″ x 36″ size. The countertop surfaces in this bathroom are a Q Quartz product in the “Montauk” design.
The “Philip” series of handles from our Jeffery Alexander line are installed on the doors and drawers in a Matte Black finish. This transitional style of handle is available in 6 other finishes and other sizes. Hardware is such a key part of the look and function of a space. Let our experts help you choose the perfect style for your project from our wide selections.
Because the LED-lit mirrors provide a perfect forward wash of task light needed, pendant lights are hung above each sink to add style and ambient light to the space. the 7″ “Everly” pendant from our Kichler line is shown here in a black finish with clear glass. This pendant size and style also looks great above a kitchen sink or hung as a group in a bar setting! Between the sinks is a very cool wall sconce that acts almost as an art piece. The “Hatton” 2-light sconce is also from Kichler. And now for a look at the custom tiled shower.
A wall mount showerhead and ceiling/rain showerhead plus dual wall niches make this walk in shower a dream. But the key feature of this shower is not the neutral tile or the great plumbing fixtures and controls. It is access to the shower itself.
Curbless, Zero-Entry Showers
A “zero entry” or “curbless” shower floor gives you a safer way to enter a shower. Users can even wheel or slide in assistant items like shower stools or chairs without lifting over a threshold. Investing in details like this not only help you or a future homeowner age-at-home more safely, this detail is great for any age or ability. The gradual angle of a curbless shower floor is easier to clean too! With fewer corners and grout areas water can collect, a single plane of tile can be mopped or wiped much easier.
